A space adventure/nation roleplay set in the post-post-apocalypse, except it's actually really just in a computer program.

A warning: I can and will literally do this for ever.

So update: me and @Rockette are working on a nice long post set way back in 1920s Somabra. Bit of a flashback for our characters. It's still being made, so stay tuned!

Don't mind me, I'm just here to shake the dust offa this OOC with some questions for my best super pals. That's you guys. You guys are my pals; sorry you had to find out like this.

Question 1!

How are the posts going? Anyone in need of some inspiration, motivation, collaboration, or further aggravation? Because I am good at all of the above.

Question 2!

Since it has already been established that we are now super pals, I feel like I kinda sorta need to know things about you so I can quietly judge you from behind the safety of my computer screen become closer buds with ya. So, since this is a website about writing shit, let's talk about reading shit.

What books ya been reading? How are they? If you aren't reading something, why?

1) Just waitin on the lovely @Rockette to finish our collab. I'm still around and alive and may make a second, less completely one dimensional character for this RP if that's allowed.

2) just started reading North American Lake Monsters: Stories, which is one of the more disturbing and elegantly written collections of short stories I've read in awhile. I also just finished Fools, Frauds and Firebrands: Thinkers of the New Left, which is very enjoyable if you enjoy erudite polemics tearing academic charlatans to shreds. Which I do.

1) Currently got something in the works with Julien, so that's what I'm typing away at as-of-current times.

2) My dearest brother's girlfriend got me "The Republic of thieves" (second book in the gentleman bastard sequence) a few years back, and I recently ran into the first book in the series "The Lies of Locke Lamora" so I thought I'd give that a read, and further indulge my complete disregard for the series timeline and publication date.

How about yourself?

1) What Kingfisher said. Soon after that, I'm gonna borrow you again for a short collab. :P

2) Right now, I'm not really 'reading' anything - between uni, work, girlfriend and the RPs I'm participating in, I spend what time I have left on my hand on computer games and occasionally trying to learn Russian and Italian.

But, in my defence, I'm listening to audiobooks whenever I would otherwise be faced with a boring car or train ride; since early December, I've listened to two book on what's been going on in Russia since the Cold War (by a German journalist who lived and worked in Russia for several decades - Gabriele Krone-Schmalz), two books on Islam (by Hamed Abdel Samat - I think his books are available in English, too), revisited an awesome book on Prussian history (by Joachim Fernau - maybe there's a translation of his work?) and right now, I'm listening to Bill Bryson's "A Brief History of Everything" again.
Once I have the time, I wanna read Weir's "The Martian". My mother's been telling me how great it is since before the movie came out, which is the cardinal reason why I'm probably not gonna watch the movie until I can silently (or vocally) judge it.

@FlaggOh man, I am adding that Lake Monsters book to my to-read list. Which is now around...30-something books. Great! That second book seems like it's something I'd love to hear someone talk about, but would instantly glaze over if I ever tried to read it. What were you thinking about in terms of a second character?

@KingfisherComplete disregard for the timeline. A quick Google search tells me that you read the third book first, not the second. But it looks like it's a crime fantasy novel, right? Huh! Never thought you'd be interested in that sort of thing. ;D

@JulienJadenBill Bryson is my dude! I tried reading that book but it was during a time where I was so busy that reading anything cut into my very awful World of Warcraft relapse. You're listening to it again? Okay, I'm going to pick it back up. You should see if you can find an audio version of "A Walk in the Woods" by him.

How about yourself?

Right, me. Okay.

1)If @RedDusk gives me a shout, I might have Valorie do a collab with Sander. Otherwise, I'm probably going to cool my heels for a minute before doing another solo post. I am very excited to see when our wonderful GM decides to surprise me and send that Irish monster-demon-alien lady after ol' Val.

2)I'm currently reading The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov, which is a fun little story about the Devil visiting an atheistic, communist Moscow in the 1920s and pretty much just screwing people over. It's my first classic Russian novel I ever read so some of it is a little dense or mentions things I never heard of, but there is a nice little note section in the back to help explain what certain things meant. Plus, the concept and the story beats are just too cool.

I just finished Here Are The Young Men by Rob Doyle, which is an Irish novel about a bunch of recent high school graduates being terrible teenagers and doing drugs. I'm mixed on it. The characters were a little static. There were some points where I felt like the author was trying too hard to be controversial. I can't tell if the point was to make the main narrator completely unlikable and the author did an incredible job, or if he was trying to make him relatable and completely blew it. Still, it was fun to read, had a neat ending, and kept me entertained, although in that kind of terrible way where you watch a reality show on TV because you hate everybody on it.

@Atrophy There is, at least in German. Heard it two or three times from start to finish. Also gave "At Home: A Short History of Private Life" a listen; not his best but still informative. And I think I have "I'm a Stranger Here Myself" somewhere in my library.

If I may recommend a book for everybody: You guys should give Christopher Moore's "Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff" a whirl - It narrates the life of Jesus Christ (particularly the part the Bible never mentions) from the perspective of his childhood buddy Biff and it has a great mix of satire, religious and historical facts and a touching story, without one of these elements seeming out of place, and I say that as an atheist.

Been a long time since I actually read a book, as sad as that sounds.

Been listening to some audiobooks though. An assortment of H.P. Lovecraft stories, namely The Lurking Fear, read by Wayne June. Who has a voice so Gothic I just love it.
