It's "Why buy it if you aren't going to play it intimately?" The important part is "by hand" not "Why buy".

"By hand" just means that the person in question may play it with something/someone else, but not actually play it the classic way, "by hand." I don't disagree that it's important, but it means that they would play it personally and directly.

So I just wrote up 12,668 characters of text on Dark's history and I'm not even a tenth done. I'm not even to when he started eating stars, let alone non-villains or entire dimensions.
