I have just learnt that formic acid, found in ants, and hydrogen peroxide, found in bombardier beetles, is extremley unstable when mixed and then heated.

Shaking generates heat.

It's like they want me to make ceramic acid bombs.

...you need aluminium/iron oxide dust as a reagent and catalyst to make Performic acid explosive at room temperature. Get that at the smithy.

He butchers the ants, he doesn't keep them. Their pheromones are useful for spoor, but not that helpful in most other situations.
