@Quetzalcoatl After its war of independence in 1926, Australia expanded northward into the Pacific. Can we have a War of the East Indies?

ITT: sparsely populated continental nation attempts to invade densely populated south-east Asian pacific islands and nothing goes wrong somehow.

@Dinh AaronMk Australia has undergone a major militarization and industrial revolution fueled by hypercapitalism and its vast natural resources.

Although something going wrong could make for a good story.

I also want to add as a bit of an aside since I'm in the same track of thinking: cooperatives like this as far as I've read and gathered actually work pretty well, on par in some ways to the traditional top-down model. The only thing running against them comes down to loans and financing options where it's legally harder to get the financing and business loans from banks so when they're tried they end up very small. But then when they do they tend to get pretty good.

hypercapitalism

AUSTRALIA UNDERGOES HYPERCAPITALIST DETERRITORIALIZATION

Are they worshiping fucking Gnon yet?

But really: Australia doesn't really come off as a country that could populate itself that quickly considering that... well... you know, 90% of the country looks like this:

And it's agricultural industry only really relies on these:

And other than that it has coal and opals which aren't exactly a hardcore commodity that'll make it the next Saudi Arabia seeing as how it hasn't yet either. You're also talking about an insane rate of immigration to boost a population of roughly 10 million in 1960 to overcome Indonesia's 80+ million in order to correct a head count imbalance. Seventy million people in forty years is going to destroy a country's ecology, which'll make those moo moos effectively economically unsustainable. It'll be a country forced to import more food than it can produce and even more vulnerable to war, only meaning the government will need to shell out more in defense to protect the incredibly valuable cargo vessels so the entire country doesn't fall into a state of instant siege the moment a warship leaves Sydney.

Australia is, realistically, a country that relies on London. And it may be defacto independent of Great Britain from distance, but when you get down to it it can't actually survive on its own if there are active threats in the area. If it were to be legally independent of England then it's position may end up being like that of Switzerland, keeping a strict neutrality in anything as a matter of existence. Otherwise a resurgent Japan will swallow it, emus or not.

What you're asking for is impossible, and I will need to hit the abort button before you even start.

@Dinh AaronMk Here’s what I’ve written so far:

I was expecting something along the lines of Spain for Britain, seeing as the former lost a lot of its colonial influence after the War of the Spanish Succession

@Quetzalcoatl, So, can I adopt your system?

If you want to IC adopt the glorious theories of the Dutch left I can't stop you. I'd rather there be some ic recognition of the system being copied, with or without credit, though.

The British have a thing for property protection so I seriously doubt they'd seize the property of citizens of the Empire who are at the least very clearly British in heritage. Not even during the time of Colonial America were they seizing existing private property from the colonists, in their case it was more along the lines of limiting it as well as tax burdens. The relationship between Australia and the UK is a very strong two-way relationship and given how the Australians have no qualms with having the blunder of Galipolli committed on their soldiers by the British government it's pretty certain a War in Europe is as much their war as it was the British war.

It wasn't nearly the same for India and the non-white colonies who had been bearing the brunt of English abuses not otherwise subjected to the Australians. The Brits would've sooner fucked over their African and Indian colonies. But in a war-time scenario German Uboat operations would have been a cause for caution on increasing their dependency on the colonies because costs would have escalated so much in simply getting supplies there, so colonies or not they'd be in the same boat as the Dutch; but at least capable of making an attempt to guard their shipping lanes.

And the British islands don't have gold anyways.

I'm going to be honest, this history doesn't particularly suit what I had planned for Britain. The wartime government signing off on the Rape of Australia, which as has been said is a nation of clear British heritage, would have been political suicide, especially if the current democratic Australian government was still loyal and active as a wartime ally. The dire state of the war would have been a cause to rally the British Empire together, if there was any tighter controls being placed by Britain over her dominions and colonies it would most likely have been in response to revolts and unrest already present rather then needlessly expending wartime resources to effectively annex already loyal parts of the Empire.

Hi just wondering if I can make a claim on Russian territories south of Rostov up until Georgia. Also I would not include Astrakhan or Crimea into my territory.

dude, do a Boer Republic. The Boers attempted a rebellion during the First World War. You can change things up and say they won with the help of German intervention via Tanganyika. Then BAM, your very own nation-state for racist dutch cowboys.

Dumb question, but would there be any significant relationships with the actual Netherlands?

Another possibility is to find an irrelevant country and make it relevant. Red Canada? Monarchist south america? I don't know if anyone is playing Poland yet, and there's also Turkey

I don't believe so. Can't say I'm an expert in South African history, but it always seemed that the Boers were politically divorced from the Netherlands long ago.
