@HeroicSociopath School is on break right now, Japan’s version of spring break which is actually a week in summer. The current day is two days before returning to school if it wasn’t clear.

Actually summer holidays in Japan are one month for students, pretty from the last week of July to usually around the 20th of August depending on day placements. Winter break is the shorter one at 2-3 weeks, that's Christmas and New Year.

The one week holiday you're thinking of is likely Golden Week which is at the end of April and goes into May.

@Sho Minazuki To be honest, I don’t know most of the ins and outs, but I just was trying to make it as similar to American schools as possible just so people (including me) aren’t confused.

Hehe I guess you’re right, but the actual school wasn’t the main point of the role play so I figured it didn’t require much research since it wouldn’t be referenced often. I know my mythology, though!

I figure it's safe to say most characters will be attending the same school, or the same two schools as sometimes there are two highschools in the same area, not to mention a junior high also. So while it'll rarely be the direct focus, if characters attend the same school, it's safe to say they'll also talk about school at some points.

It also lends to things like Culture Festival in October, test periods, and so on. I'd wager as onmyou we'll be students by day, and onmyou by night, which sounds pretty fun honestly.

also, I feel like I should apologize for this tangent because I got confused at the beginning as to whether or not our characters were supposed to be already at the shrine. one person's post implied that Niko made her big speech to an empty room. I should have asked for clarification before making my first post. sorry for the hold-up, we'll get to the shrine soon.
