Haven't accepted anyone yet, so yeah there's still plenty!

@Menhir A shapeshifting actor? You didn't want to do something different from the canon 007?

Different in that it's less powerful/varied. OG 007 was the "world's best actor" while she was trying to get noticed. He was an agent for MI6 while she never had any formal combat/espionage training. His shapeshifting operating on the molecular level, essentially letting him turn any part of his body into anything while hers changes physical appearance and provides props.

It's the same but less powerful than the canon 007. I'm not saying you can't do it, it just feels... Underutilized.

Concept is fine. Hex is right, 003 but without being the "designated woman." Excellent combat application as well. I get the feeling that he and 006 will have some humorous banter with his pacifistic ways and her punch first questions later approach.

That's a surprising interpretation, friend. Is that how they play him in the new CG ones? I didn't like the redesigns, so I haven't watched them.

In the versions I watched- or read, in the comic's case- the character had some key differences. Great Britain was a washed-up old drunk who threw away the only woman who ever cared about him, was hated by basically everyone who knew him pre-modification, and to my knowledge was never involved with any branch of intelligence. In most stories he was basically just the comic relief and tended to get steamrolled anytime he entered a straight fight. In some versions, he also retained the same face/mass when he shapeshifted, but that's relatively inconsistent even within singular series so I can understand if you hadn't picked up on it.

Your comment about wasted potential was helpful, though. I had thought 007's ability to create relevant equipment was actually a little too strong, but you've put my mind at ease. Thanks, friend!

He was always a former agent of MI6 from the original manga. Granted he was also a washed up drunk but that's always been a part of his character. "Great Britain" was his codename in the agency. He's a great big shout out to James Bond (as in the Bond that was in the original Ian Flemming novels). British, MI6, 007 codename, loves women and alcohol, yeah.

Are you talking about Gods War, friend? Because Gods War is noncanon and also retcons the entire manga as never happening.

Anyway, if we're talking about the original comic: Great Britain is stated several times to literally be his name and all the cyborgs are basically just random people nobody would miss. The chapter that covers it is actually very strange, because half of it is dedicated to an extended slapstick car chase involving two Black Ghost goons and 003's brother.

The thing you have to understand about the manga is that Ishinomori was actually kind of a hack whose comics work was his weakest point, and anyone who tries to seriously catalog everything that happens in the comic is probably also really bad at reading comprehension. The series was dropped by multiple magazines over it's lifespan (which is why only the 2001 version has a complete Mythos arc; the original was cut short) and a number of what are set up as plot points turn out to just be cheap throwaway references or left hanging because keeping track of all your storylines just wasn't done at the time (Go Nagai was also really bad about this). I'd honestly call the TV versions superior- both the pacing and story get cleaned up a lot.

That aside, I'd suggest reading it yourself. It's very fun in a disjointed half-finished kind of way.

@Menhir Just because I haven't read it in over 20 years doesn't mean I haven't read it at all, but I'll thank you for your assumptions and insulting my intelligence regardless. As far as God's War goes, no I am not referring to that whatsoever. I have no experience with God's War. I am relying 100% on my memory from reading the original stories, and watching the various anime productions. I attempted to research to back my claim, but found nothing. Ergo my memory was faulty and for being wrong I apologize. It has been a long time since I've fully thrown myself into this franchise.

I love it very much for helping Ishinomori to guide and create the Sentai genre, as well as the pioneering it did for manga/anime and sci-fi in general. I don't remember where I got the MI6 bit, perhaps it bled over from somewhere else, I don't know, but I was 100% sure and tried to rely on my memory of something I hadn't experienced in decades. Usually my nerd-brain is an infallible steel trap.

I know they mentioned 007 being in MI6 in the computer animated Netflix series.

Where does the Cyborg 009 vs Devilman series fit in? I've quite literally just got into both of these franchises so I was at a loss for words when finding out they crossed over. The anime is I'm guessing more like the original in that Jet Link/002 has ridiculous looking dark hair as opposed to the more recent blonde hairstyles.

In the various series, have any of the cyborgs actually been hurt badly enough to the point you can see their cybernetics?
