Liliana Dragomir the Lazy
HOW ARE THEY BEST RECOGNIZED IN A CROWD?
The young woman was very flamboyant in most of her aspects. She was usually seen playing her instrument, the mandola, or moving to the beat of a tune within her own head. It seemed that the girl had to be constantly moving, singing, or otherwise keeping herself occupied. She could be described as a loud personality; keen to offer her opinion whether it's wanted or not and always ready to shoot a comment on any given situation. She is very lighthearted in nature, taking most things very jokingly unless it were a matter of life and death.
She couldn't have stood taller than 5'5" and weighed roughly 110 pounds, with an athletic build. A golden ring runs through the septum of her nose, resting above lips that had a hint of pout. Occasionally displayed from between her lips was a pierced tongue, a barbell with golden metal orbs on either side running through the pink mass. Either ear was also marked with teal studs. Her skin is pale and smooth, free of pockmarks or any leftovers from the wounds of battle. Perhaps that is why her eyes held no scrutinizing gaze and tended to look over situations harmlessly. She often wore a blue hooded shawl that sat atop of a tough leather corset and cloth shirt. She had tight cloth pants that end at leather boots with a steel toe.
Liliana held onto very little. She had a pack with basic supplies and a bedroll. Always to her side or slung across her back was a wooden mandola. A belt ran across her waist that held a flask that was usually filled with alcohol and also maintained her coin - purse. To her left was a sheathed rapier.
One might notice that she was fairly dirty, her clothes being a little tattered and slightly ragged. The young woman appeared to have been subjected to the elements and not given the opportunity to wash.
WHAT IS A STRANGER'S FIRST IMPRESSION UPON MEETING THEM? HOW DOES YOUR CHARACTER SEE THEMSELVES?
Most people probably find Liliana to be too brash to keep as company, considering that she doesn't seemingly work for anything and she doesn't have the money to pay for anything. They are likely to find her to be loud and obnoxious, especially considering that she is probably drunk upon introduction. They may find her music to be delightful and entertaining, however, and some might even consider it to be beautiful.
Liliana seems to hold herself to a high enough regard, unwilling to subject herself to lowly means. She clearly sees life as a constant opportunity for merriment and joy, trying to achieve as much at any time it may be possible.
WHERE DID THEY GROW UP? WHERE DO THEY FEEL AT HOME?
The girl grew up among the travelling caravans of a foreign people, known as the Kavka. Although far removed from their homeland hundreds of years ago, they have been moving around the area for quite some time, often looked down upon for being thieves, con artists, and lazy good - for - nothings.
Because of this upbringing, Liliana often feels at home when she is meeting new people or exploring a new place that she had never seen before. She is especially comfortable when she is around musicians, finding the warmth of joy and comfort washing over her soul at the sound of music that she can join in on.
WHO ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN THEIR LIVES?
Family is everything to the young traveler. Although she had been separated for some time, her thoughts often call to her mother, sisters, brothers, and cousins whom have either fallen to the plague or have miraculously survived on the road. Although it may be rather hopeful, the girl hopes to one day be reunited with her family.
WHAT IS THEIR PROFESSION, SKILL OR LIFESTYLE? WHAT DO THEY THINK THEIR STRENGTHS ARE? WHAT ARE THEIR ACTUAL STRENGTHS?
Liliana hasn't had an actual profession since the day she was born, as she grew up among a traveling community that mostly took care of themselves. She has been playing the mandola since a very young age, though, and is quite proficient with the instrument, able to make quite the uplifting tune or the most gorgeous ballad. Living a life of merriment has practically been in her bloodline and still sees the world through this lens, taking every chance she can to celebrate. One might even consider her fairly charismatic.
The young girl is also quite athletic and has some practice with fencing. The blade to her side was never just for decoration.
WHAT ARE THEIR FEARS, FLAWS AND SECRETS?
She is very much afraid of being alone, especially if it is in a very confined space. Spending her entire life in a tightly knit community has made her somewhat dependant on others, even if just for the emotional support. Being free and roaming has also made her a little claustrophobic and despite her small stature, small spaces have come to frighten her.
Despite her love for celebration and rowdiness, the young girl is constantly looking for more meaning in life, and sometimes she may place more importance on a person or event than necessary.
WHAT DO THEY WANT MOST? WHAT DO THEY ACTUALLY NEED?
Liliana is not hard to motivate; give her a bottle of liquor, some coins, or perhaps even dance with her. She has been living off of very little for much of her life and is mostly looking to have a good time if she can help it. Therefore, those who are willing to enjoy themselves as often as possible are the most likely to move her to do something. Those with copious amounts of money also seem to have quite the say.
The most that the young girl seems to truly need is a constant form of entertainment and basic sustenance. Doesn't seem like too much, right? Well, if things get too dull, she's been known to purposely cause trouble around her.
IF YOUR CHARACTER COULD HAVE ANY SUPERNATURAL ABILITY, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Mind control. Something about being able to make people bend to her whim and give her anything that she may come to desire is beyond appealing.
HOW HAS THE PLAGUE AFFECTED THEM? WHY ARE THEY ABOARD THE LEGEND'S FORGERY?
Like most of the youth of the Kavka people, coming of age is a grand adventure. The goal was to travel alone for at least a year, if not more, and come back to the caravan having learned a skill that would benefit the people. As she was exploring and the plague began to creep upon the land, Liliana saw the opportunity to stow away aboard the Legend's Forgery and took it. Although she worried for her family, she knew that it was best to save herself if she could.
HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE THIS CHARACTER CHANGE AND DEVELOP?
To see the character mature as an adult and become more disciplined would be interesting, especially if she were pushed to do actual 'work' among her new comrades and compatriots. To find an important role in her life rather than simply being a travelling musician.

Being reunited with a member of her family, for good or bad purposes, explaining the fate of the others.

Look for the short young woman in a tie, with a messy flop of hair, freckles covering her cheeks, and a mouth full of curses. She'll be easy to find – brawls tend to be hard to miss.

Temp lives up to her name – loud mouthed, short fused, and always ready to crack a bat over some kneecaps. It's easy enough to write her off as a violent lost cause, a grown-up delinquent that you'd do well to stay far away from. Most do. Temp likes to think of herself as a pretty straight forward person. If you're cool to her, she's cool to you. You piss her off, she beats you up. It's not a perfect system, she knows – it's probably caused more problems than it's solved. Sometimes Temp thinks about trying to change herself, become the quiet, dainty girl her grandpa wished she'd been. But then some jackass calls her short and all thoughts of changing herself go flying out the window.

Temp grew up in Myrefall with her grandpa, a tailor named Gabriel Fournier. He was a harsh old bastard, chewing out her ear whenever she got into fights or ran around in the suits he made. But he took care of her. Cleaned up her cuts and started leaving out suits that just happened to be her size. He tried to teach her tailoring but she just kept on stabbing herself with a needle and throwing tantrums. He tried setting her up with bachelors in town, but after the first one ended up with a broken nose and three missing teeth, the boys stayed well away. He'd just about given up when the two walked by a clockwork shop on their way to a concert being held in the town square.
Louise - because Gabe didn't care what the brat wanted to call herself, her mother had named her Louise – paused mid-step to look in through the shop window. The sunset made the ticking clockwork gleam, and she took a step towards it, eyes watching the steady tick, tick, tick, of the gears. Clockwork was all around them, sure, and she'd always had a passing interest in it; the delicate gears and tapes, the steady clicks of time. But seeing it all up close like this… how did it work?
Gabe watched as his granddaughter stared in open curiosity. An idea formed in his head.
Within a month (it'd taken much negotiating and pleading, what with her reputation for trouble) she was made an apprentice clockworker under Finnegan Choq, owner and operator of the shop Choq's Clocks. The ticking brass of gears and clockwork became home.

Temp is terribly superstitious. She blames her grandpa, who used to delight in telling her ghost stories until she couldn't sleep at night. Ghosts are the worst. Demons and ghouls are horrible, but at least she can punch them. She hates things she can't fix with her hands – her grandpa's death. Finn's rejection. They make her feel helpless. There's nothing more terrifying than that.
Temp knows she has issues – anger issues. Her first instinct when faced with anything even mildly inconvenient is to resort to violence. Whether she's throwing fists or words, she tends to set people off. That's fine, she tells herself. Who needs them anyway? Not Temp, no sir.

Uncontrollable, Incorporeal Phasing does seem like a good idea - it really helps to intensify her fears of absolute helplessness (perhaps even being mute all the while as well, since she no longer has lungs or vocal cords as a 'ghost'?); an alternate idea might be the ability for her to fast-forward through small 'blinks' (phasing into an incorporeal, with the world slowing down around her during it) of time while in this uncontrollable state - perhaps making her feel even more helpless and angry while feeding slightly into her love of clockwork mechanisms and their ability to register it (the sense of time, that is)?

@Virgil that's a really cool idea that i will consider… i was leaning more towards ghost mode because it fits nicely into her character and provides some potential for growth. i will think more on this fast-forwarding thing as well. thank! ^.^

WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER'S NAME? WHAT DO THEY PREFER TO BE CALLED?
High Lord Varric Lyssander Anguis Draleth...the Third. While titles are highly important in a realm of civil discourse, given the circumstance, Lord Varric is an acceptable substitute.
HOW ARE THEY BEST RECOGNIZED IN A CROWD?
Clad in magnificent robes of violet, resplendent gold inlays and tasteful splashes of muck and blood courtesy of the crash, Varric stands just shy of six foot (though he swears he is all of 6'2). Floor length and tattered, Varric pairs the garment brilliantly with a petulant scowl. Wrinkled and streaked with grey, the nobleman's vanity belies the age inscribed on his face. Short, neat hair and a well groomed goatee befit a man of stature and subterfuge and as such are a staple of Varric's image.
WHAT IS A STRANGER'S FIRST IMPRESSION UPON MEETING THEM? HOW DOES YOUR CHARACTER SEE THEMSELVES?
This depends entirely on whether or not Varric realizes he's being watched. Given notice, the nobleman carries himself with dignity befitting one of his station, leaning to his honored guest's sensibilities to garner favor and admiration. If caught off guard, however, one would see Varric's true colors, a lazy and vindictive soul, selfish and spoiled from birth.
If asked himself, Lord Draleth would tell you he is the pinnacle of civility, his intellect is such that one would be best to follow his lead but he is much too magnanimous to press that point. The foolish learn in their own time the fallacy of denying House Draleth.
WHERE DID THEY GROW UP? WHERE DO THEY FEEL AT HOME?
Lord Varric grew up in his family's naval fort situated amidst the tumultuous Morangi Atoll, creatively named Fort Draleth. Given their background, Izzy and potentially Elliot would know the atoll was originally a pirate alcove until House Draleth (and their mercenaries) moved in to pressure their political rivals' trade routes in the area. Many ruffians of the sea were put to the blade and the remainder employed as "privateers" of the family. With the combined manpower (and a steady supply of Daemon Spice) the native populace was kept docile meaning young Varric never had to lift a finger on the overgrown isle. This allowed his formulative years to be spent in the Fort proper whiling away the hours reading or watching his father clash wits with guests to the island.
As such, Varric feels most at home in towering spires, isolated and content, pampered and protected. Solitude is something he holds dear, free to wax philosophical on the necessity of castes, hierarchy and the law of man. When he does entertain the notion of discourse Varric prefers brow-beating easy prey rather than his father's penchant for spirited debate, opting to sorround himself with stimulating yet ultimately spineless yesmen.

High Lord Varric of Draleth is first and foremost a statesman. His skill lies in diplomacy suggestion and manipulation. His existence relies on delegation of duty and winning favor. Varric believes his highborn status and numerous successes in the art of state make him naturally fit to run a kingdom of his own someday. In reality, his true calling is that of a tactician like his father before him (a profession he finds beneath him).
His ability to inspire and beguile friend and foe alike lay the groundwork for a leader of men, his time spent tracking the machinations of the other Houses, moving in secret to intercept and redirect supplies the beginnings of an effective guerrilla commander.

Lord Varric wants nothing more than to return to Fort Draleth amidst his guards and his slaves and close the Plague, the rival Houses, and this damned island OUT. In reality, Varric needs to learn to live on his own merit rather than on the blood and sweat of others. Varric needs to control himself before he can control others.
IF YOUR CHARACTER COULD HAVE ANY SUPERNATURAL ABILITY, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
House Draleth is a wound, it's existence toxic and paralyzing. Where their influence swells, all life shudders. As such, Varric stands as conduit of his family's wickedness, a vile touch that withers life and draws sustenance from its suffering. The ability to Devour Life.
HOW HAS THE PLAGUE AFFECTED THEM? WHY ARE THEY ABOARD THE LEGEND'S FORGERY?
To hear Varric speak, he has lost the most of any to the cursed Plague. It is one thing to lose a mother or a sister but to lose station, now THAT is be mourned. Power, prestige, generations of planning set upon by an unthinking beast, an enemy the Draleth could not outwit.
Admittedly, Varric has no idea how his family at the Fort fared in the aftermath as he was on business in Glaifast when the evacuations began. Needless to say he made sure he was one of the first to board.
HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE THIS CHARACTER CHANGE AND DEVELOP?
Making a character to intentionally stir the pot is a measured risk, people need to know you're not going to be a GENUINE douche-bag, certain fail-safes have to be set up; to play Lawful Evil effectively you have to play Lawful Good. To this effect, I've neutered any ability for Varric to meaningfully screw over the group at large by making him wholly dependent on them for survival. He is weak. He is trivial. I'd like that to change.
I'd like to see Varric become more and more adept at getting by on his own and realizing exploiting people is a weakling's path to power. He should seize the world by the throat, not sit in backrooms with pirates and degenerates. (I don't really see a full redemption arc making sense but certainly becoming more honorable in his wicked ways would be feasible. Maybe someday.)
PITCH A SMALL SUBPLOT THAT WOULD BE PERSONALLY MEANINGFUL TO YOUR CHARACTER.
I've thought about this a lot. I imagine the Artificers sending Lord Varric as an emissary to the Kith after he regales them with his victories in the Great Halls back home. I imagine Varric intending instead to manipulate the weak-minded savages to serve him, just as his family had done in the Atoll. But I imagine something happening, maybe a spirit or a goddess, something that opens his eyes to the purity of the natural world and the pristine brutality of the island. Predator and prey, the games of cat and mouse he'd played all his life laid out in grisly glory before him. I imagine him returning to the Artificers under a new banner, a Warlord of the Kith.

Because every RP I start is an experiment in some way, what would you guys think of possibly utilizing the OOC to further IC between posts?
For example, after a mod post I might post OOC to list questions that could be answered IC or OOC -- character goals and intent in the moment, what they'll do about it, how they feel about other PCs or NPCs, what about the environment has caught their eye, etc.
Same for posts that you guys make -- I'd ask some leading questions about your post, not because the post isn't good but to get some feedback to think a few steps ahead of where the character's going.
And, of course, questions for me: clarify the environment, get more info about a specific subject without having to RP through a conversation, OOCly have your character montage through some information-gathering, then maybe ICly reflect the results later.
We won't know how it'll go til it's in practice, and will probably change as we feel it out, but what d'you think? :D

I'd be down to try out that level of tranparency as an experiment but overall I think I'd rather gather information about the unfolding mysteries of the island and such through in-game interaction as opposed to a questionnaire dealio. That being said, that's just personal preference. Ol' dude's built to coerce and I crafted my backstory to allow character interaction as well; obviously I'm gonna be biased. I defer to my esteemed colleagues.
