“You here to see Dellucci, little lady?”

Elise Kimble was stood in the squalid street that ran outside of Kai Dellucci’s safe house, in front of a massive thug, who was so colossal and well-built that he might well have had some rhinoceros DNA in him.

“My mother,” Elise began, her voice soft, yet shaken “she’s very sick. I heard that M-Mister Dellucci had some kind of magic cure.”

“Go on up, Sweetheart” the gangster laughed “Dellucci has got what ya need.”

The young woman moved past the rhinoceros, and into the ramshackled old lift which slowly chugged her up to the top floor of Kai Dellucci’s dilapidated hideout, where the man himself was sat waiting behind a rusted desk which looked about one hard kick away from falling apart.

“All I gotta do is sit here, and the delicious babes make their way into my little slice of paradise,” Dellucci grinned, clasping his ring-clad fingers together “I don’t know no otha’ job with these kind of perks. What can Pappa Dellucci do for you then, sexy?”

“It’s my mum,” Elise repeated, in that same rattled tone “I need your magic cure, Sir.”

Delluci reached one hand under his desk, fishing out a slender glass tube, that was brimming with dark red liquid.

“When that malformed alien freak killed old Superman, a load of this super-powered mojo got left behind.”

“W-what is it?” Elise asked.

“Kryptonian blood,” Dellucci beamed, his gold tooth glittering beneath the dim office lights “It can cure just about any ailment, infection, or epidemic known to man. The question is, sweet thing...how will you be paying for it?”

Suddenly, Elise’s hand darted into the air, the palm of her hand unclenching, which triggered the isomorphic lure that was tucked discreetly beneath her jacket sleeve. In a roar of splinters and fragments of metal, her father’s Atomic Axe hurtling through the wall of Dellucci’s office, and flying into the Persuaders hand.

Dellucci yelped and swore in shock, as Elise leapt forwards, vaulting over the desk, and slamming the mobster’s face into the cold metal surface. Blood poured out of his now broken nose, and the Persuader yanked him back up by the hair, pressing the blade of the atomic axe against his soft neck.

“S-shit!” Dellucci cursed, blood and sweat dripping down his face “Are you one of Falcone’s?! Whatever the Roman thinks is happening, I can assure you-”

“You’ve been selling your snake oil trash to the weak and helpless; tricking cancer patients into shelling out their life’s savings for coloured water.” Elise hissed, any softness in her voice replaced by hot, burning rage.

“Listen lady!” Dellucci whimpered “if those sad saps are stupid enough to fall for-”

“Go on, keep running your mouth,” Elise snarled “give me another reason to slit your wretched throat, and let you bleed out on the carpet.”

Suddenly, an array of booms and explosions, all tangled together with a cacophony of panicked screaming came wailing up from the streets below.

“Mother fu-,” Elise spat, beneath her breath, before turning her focus back to Dellucci “If you haven’t packed up, and left the city by tomorrow morning, I will -END YOU-.”

She gave the mobster a shove, hurling him back against the wall, before making her way into the elevator, and pressing the button for street-level.

As the lift clanked downwards, she fished a cigarette cartoon out of her jacket pocket, lighting herself a straight, and furiously puffing away on it.

“No rest for the wicked.”

Jason's eyes locked onto Raven's gaze and he had but a fleeting moment of solidarity in his mind. Deep in his heart and his mind, he could feel the burning embers of The Demon's presence, his agony giving way to a burning throb in his blood. Jason would have wanted to say something, anything really, but just as he was able to find his voice again, all signals across the Tower blared with a warning that deafened Jason's senses. The city was under attack, and just like that their party was broken up into their first real mission.

Jason stumbled out of the elevator, clutching his elbow - he must have driven it into the floor during his stumble. He looked around for Supergirl and Nightwing, but they were already gone. The other's were bounding off into the city as well, and Jason knew not where to start. The hooded girl from Etrigan's warning was gone, along with the red headed boy with the bow. Jason made his way to the railing of the rooftop and looked where his new allies were all bounding off to. He could see there was a commotion deeper into the city, and the city traffic was now rushing further away from the center.

It was time he joined the fray. He felt the same rush of excitement he always had whenever he was calling forth the form of the Demon. His blood boiling, and he could feel his lungs filling with smoke. It was invigorating.

"Gone gone, form of man..." Jason began the rhyme that summoned him forth, when suddenly

"Rise The Demon.." "ETRIG-UGHHHH"

All of the strength and power that was emanating from within Jason suddenly snapped away, snuffed out like a candle beneath a drinking glass. Jason's heart skipped a beat and again he felt that same flash of cold sweat across his brow.

What's the F***ing deal Demon? Jason thought to himself.

NOT WITH HER. SHE IS DANGEROUS. SHE IS ONE OF THEM.

Garfield felt a bit pleased after hearing Billy's remark about his superhero alias. He called it cool, and Garfield really hoped he had meant it. Billy then had told him his own alias, Captain Marvel, and that he was 'magic and stuff'. Garfield nodded to this, and thought of something funny or remarkable to reply with.

"Well I'm science and stuff." Garfield said, grinning timidly at Billy. "I can turn into any animal I know of." He wondered what Captain Marvel could do, with a name like Captain and Marvel together, he had to be some sort of Superman-ish superhero. Sounded right up Billy's ally.

But how could a kid around Garfield's own age be like Superman? Garfield was probably wrong. Suddenly..

The crimson speedster's voice echoed across the rooftop saying four words Garfield had not expected at his first day as a Titan. We are under attack. Before Garfield had an idea of what was going on, the speedster had gone across the rooftop and the nearest TVs were on the news broadcasting what was going on. Garfield hurriedly motioned for Billy to follow him as he ran towards the nearest TV.

Once he looked at the news he could not believe what he was witnessing. Mechanical machines turning into things the likes of 1980s mecha anime. Garfield's eyes widened, and his mouth gaped open.

"H-Holy crap.. We're under attack. The green boy repeated the words the Speedster had said over the intercom under his breath.

While the rest of the Titans made their way into the city to fight off the new threat directly, Barry remained atop the tower, surveying the city as it began to literally rip itself apart. At least, that is what he appeared to be doing, in reality, his mind raced across the electric fields of San Francisco and the machine-creatures attacking it. While he fought to disable some, severing their connection to the entity pushing them to chaos, his focus instead was to track it, to locate this mechanical intelligence.

He found shards of it entombed in every creation, not a ghost, but an actual shard of the entity, as he approached what he assumed was the crucible of the issue, the number of shards and the strength of the resistance increased. Rather than fight, he simply passed on, tracing over the hostile entities.

When he finally located the intelligence, he found not one single entity, but a swarm. Countless intelligences together, acting as one. A cloud of machine minds linked by technology that was far beyond the capability of Humanity. An alien threat then. If heroes could fall from the sky, so to, it seemed, could villains. With that discovery, Barry returned in full to his own form, immediately patching into the Titan's communication network via his suit.

"Everyone, I'm providing the location of the control-entity, defeating that 'could' solve our problem, or, at least, prevent them from acting as one."

----------------------

The Overload felt the presence of the human mind reach across it, but that was not it's primary concern. Awareness of it did not present a threat, it was here simply to destroy, to bring the city to its knees. It knew not why, that was merely the purpose it found within it's own coding.

To that end, the greater target were those who worked to prevent the destruction caused by its lesser-entities. The law-enforcement and other emergency services of the city, for having recovered from the initial blackout they were making some headway through traditional means. Even more so were the spattering of more talented individuals, those with a greater ability than the average citizen Overload had been tasked with terrifying.

Sub-units were rerouted, targeting these new elements in the equation. Counters tasked to the equivalent threats, machines reforming themselves to best fight their new targets, to counter their abilities. Some were easier than most. Overload knew immediately that sub-units would likely not be powerful enough to defeat the greater of them, so instead, it swamped them with numbers, abandoning the task to destroy the infrastructure of the city to dispatching, holding, delaying the enemy.

Central Unit. Move to Engage

It did not know where the command came from, but it made ready to obey all the same. The growing cloud of nano-robots shifting into a more solid shape, gathering itself in a more condensed form.

"Overload. Battle Ready. Executing."

Titan Tower, San Francisco

Glass shattered in onto the tile floor of the small mom and pop bakery as a red-clad archer vaulted over and behind the counter, snatching a somewhat fresh bear claw nimbly during the maneuver. He had just gotten the message and was getting close to the location of the...control-entity... who even fucking talks like that? The archer took a bite out of the bear claw, nearly choking on it as he was nearly out of breath and scarfing down the delicious pastry. Superheroes use up a lot of energy, and Roy was fairly certain the family running this bakery would be fine with him eating if it meant...

Just as he had swallowed, the archer watched a giant hulking fist of steel burst in through the front of the bakery, decimating the interior of the bakery. Roy was becoming less certain the family running the place would be fond of him now that some reject transformer decided to "bull in a china shop" the place. Regardless, this was the kind of opportunity Roy was looking for. The hostiles appeared to be trying to adapt to fighting styles, but the Green Arrow had always cautioned Speedy to be unpredictable. It's fairly difficult to pick up on someone's fighting style when they quite frankly don't know what their next move is sometimes.

Within a minute, the transformer fell to the ground after a few well-placed arrows managed to impale into the battery of the former Semi-Truck and disrupt the charge. Roy was being conservative with his explosives, not knowing necessarily what to expect once he reached the location he was sent. Shit, what was his name? The Whizzer? Whiz-Kid? Quicksilver? Gahhh, can't keep their damn names straight. The archer fought to remember the speedster's name as he continued pushing closer towards the city-center. He had put something together that he felt the others might find particularly helpful, given his last experiment on discount Optimus. The archer placed two fingers up towards his ear, pressing in on the earpiece. "Arsenal to Titans... The robot goons cease to function if you take out their power supply. I would suggest focusing your fire. See you lot at the finish line." With those last few words of encouragement, Roy continued dashing through the streets of San Francisco, closer and closer to the "Overload" until its odd form was just within view...

What the fuck is that?!

Titans Tower, San Francisco

It wasn't at all how Courtney had imagined her first real mission with the titans. The wet hair was the first issue. She'd managed some sloppy form of bun during the mad-dash to her room after the warning had gone out, but that hardly stopped it from dripping down the back of her suit. Not to mention it had gotten dark and cold while the group was on the roof. It would be her luck to catch a cold while chasing down... Whatever it was that sent everyone off in a rush.

It wasn't until clasping the familiar weight of the converter belt that Courtney was able to calm down and focus. Focus which dissipated as quickly as it came when the weight was not followed by the surge of energy that was meant to accompany it.

"Nuh-uh. No way." She unbuckled, then re-buckled the belt. Nothing. Which was quite impossible considering she'd left the damn thing the charge by the window for two days straight. She looked to the window and saw a distinct lack of light. Somehow, knowing the problem didn't exactly make her feel any better. Courtney clicked the first button on her staff, which quietly hummed to life for a brief moment, then faltered, only to stop altogether.

Barry's voice came through her comm before she could come up with much of a plan. Getting to the 'control entity' didn't seem particularly feasible given her current circumstances, but she was hardly going to sulk in her room while everyone else was out kicking-ass.

--

She made it three blocks before getting swarmed. The things were everywhere, and her dear teammates, with all their still-functioning-abilities were nowhere to be found. At least she still had the staff. She managed to knock the surrying legs out from one with it, giving her a few moments to back away before it righted itself. Powered or not; it was a seriously heavy piece of metal. Another voice she didn't have the attention to place came through the comm as a second robot pounced for her leg. She slammed the staff down on-top of it and kicked it back.

"Yeah, sure, power supply. Don't supposed that comes with blueprints?" She muttered to herself as she lept sideways, avoiding a third attacker. The first was there already waiting for her; and landed a sharp metallic vice grip around her calf. It been a while since she'd bled with the belt on. Out of reflex more than thought, she drove the bottom her her staff into the ground, and straight through the little bastard. The grip immediately vanished, leaving only pain, warm blood, and mild shock. No blueprint needed I guess.

San Francisco: Somewhere in the city.

Raven had found some police officers surrounded by these constructs, they seemed to have been targeting the ones that try to protect. The teen brought a barrier up protecting officers before they could be smashed into bits by the giants and with the information that Roy had given she had made short work of the four metal constructs being precise in destroying the power source.

She flew down to the police officers to make sure that were not hurt, they did not seem to be hurt, and they thanked her for the help and moved on helping civilians get to safety. Raven felt foolish think that only the titans were able to save the city, there were others out here doing their best to save their city. Raven flew away becoming inspired by the people who were trying to save others even when they had no powers.

Hearing the buzzing of electricity coming close, she turned to find new types of constructs, they were smaller, the size of her arm and in the form of drones and seemed to be powered by smart phones. There were more then fifteen and all coming directly for her. The teen swiped the air with her soul-self taking the shape of a talon and took out five of the drones, however, there were more and as they got close they shot electricity. Raven was able to shield most of them though she was struck from the back and sent falling to the ground.

Seconds from meeting the ground with her face she was able to gain control and fly again, though the drones that were following close were not so fortunate as they slammed into the ground shattering into pieces and sparking out. ‘Raven note to Raven number 2: Do not get hit by electricity, it hurts.’ The teen pats out a piece of her cloak that was smoldering from the electricity and continued to fly looking for the source of this chaos and still being pursued by the flying constructs. Raven turned sharply around a building and waited for the swarm of drones to follow where she swatted the machines out of the air and into the side of the building.

Moments later she flies down to meet Arsenal and looks to where he is looking, the elemental stood as electricity arched off its form. “W-what is this being?” Raven says in awe.

One of the mechanical monsters came lumbering around the corner, limbs of withered metal clanking and creaking with each unwieldy plod that it took. The beast gazed out at the world with a featureless face, warped together from parts of an old hatchback, and took in the streets of San Francisco.

“I know it must be hard, going from a car to a bloodthirsty murder-bot, in the space of a few seconds, but you really need to take a cue from your past life, and give this whole rampage thing a…”

Elise came hurtling through the air, catching the car-robot off guard, and plunging her atomic axe straight through it. Nuclear powered reaved straight through rusted metal, like a knife through butter, and the automaton buckled, and warped, crashing to the ground, it’s crooked body crumbling into twisted metal pieces.

“A break.”

The Persuader giggle-snorted at her own wit, before patching herself into the Titan’s communication network.

“Kimble here. Sorry I missed the meet and greet, but-”

Elise turned, mid-sentence, just as three more of the mechanized monstrosities came hurtling in to view; this trio looking a great deal more capable than the hatchback horror.

“Oh, motherfucker…” Elise groaned “I’ll call you back.”

Reaching into her jacket pocket, Elise fished out a pair of wireless earbuds, and popped them in. With one agile twitch of her hand, she hit shuffle on the phone which was safely tucked away within her jeans, and felt the jazzy magic of Stevie Wonder flood her ears.

“Okay, Megatron. Lets dance.”
