They say the rains that flooded the world began four centuries ago. By the accounts of some scholars it was five. It was a deluge that began not without our knowing, having wrought it upon ourselves by our own making. It was atonement for the sins of humanity, whose vast and glorious empires dominated the world. The glittering lances of our knights and champions were hoisted defiantly against all those who would challenge their nobility. All had succumbed to their pride, lent their hearts over to their emperors and their Worldly Gods. And that when the great world spirits saw what had become of mankind they sought to punish humanity and sent great beasts.

But these monsters were not seen as a collective punishment, not by man. No, the lands they dragged their tails through and the villages they scorched was not a mere punishment. But a challenge. The billowing earth-shattering calls the great serpents issued were not a warning to the proud of heart and the vile of intention but a challenge. The self obsessed grandees took to them like the horns of war and the tourney. For over a century valiant souls set forth and one by one slew the beasts in combat and through treachery until man claimed ultimate victory and the divine beasts were laid upon the earth and their bodies salted the soil as they boiled in necrosis.

But the gods, stricken and taken aback saw what man had become, beyond their control and their capacity to rule through their divine providence. In their wisdom they felt shame. In their humility they felt sorrow. For their creations, small to terrible they wept for the sinful curse that had fallen man and their tears fell upon the world in a torrential rain. A rain which did not relent and as it poured across all four corners it began to sweep aside civilization in a flood. At once the men who had proclaimed themselves gods were without realms. The Emperors watched as they fled as their territories were broken and washed into the growing great sea at each fall of the raindrop. Mankind was sent into retreat and crowding onto shrinking high grounds they fought to escape the tide, entire people's forced into one another in a retreat of tragic poetry. The terminal sounds of war clang out under thundering storm clouds as a century of battle as kings lead their retinues to war against one another, always seeking to stay one step ahead of the other. The boots and hooves of men and horses turned the ground and weakened it until it too was washed away into the great rivers and made them greater. The gentle slide of marble palaces and granite castles crumbled away into broiling froth.

As the waters rose mankind scrambled upon its rocks, where sitting perched as the sirens they rose their heads to sing their invective rage against the great gale. With no more man to fight, and the rains washing away the civilization of man the barbarity of the gluttony and pride they had so carried revealed themselves to be barbarism and there was naught but anger. But as the rains continued, the rage turned to remorse as greatness faded to memory, then into misery as the sirens of man became husks in their meager existence. Finally the rains ended as the misery of man became its own storm, and the gods ceased crying. As the rains ended, and the sky opened for the sun to emerge the world slowly normalized.

Though the land as it once was would never return, as the gods had released such a storm of sadness, man could again repopulate it. Coming down from their rocks they dispersed through swamps that dried to forests, and were cleared for farms, and in the centuries after kingdoms returned. Man, tempered rebuilt and saw themselves across wide channels and ocean rivers. All had not perished, and all still holds promise for further songs.

This was their new world. A world for thalassocrats.

Welcome to Children of the Thassalocracy, a medieval post-Apocalyptic RP. Centuries ago a hundred-year long rain storm washed away Empire of old, whose vast territories spanned the globe and challenged the gods themselves. In the imperial vanity of civilization, the gods sought to punish them and knock them down a peg. First in sending greats beasts to destroy them. But these beasts were eventually defeated by the knights and champions of the old world. In their sadness the gods cried and brought the rains, erasing the old world and its politics and driving life into the highlands of the world. The sea levels swelled and the rivers burst into channels as lakes became seas and mingled with the oceans. The receding waters left behind only a world of islands, which is where mankind is today.

The world now post-Deluge is the equivalent to the early or mid 15th century, having now redeveloped to suit its current and new climate. What new songs shall be written?

It is permissable to play as other races than human, but I would prefer them to be roughly human. No extremes. Elves and the like are fine, but dwarves in the typical sense of short mountain dwelling people wouldn't likely belong, we can get away with saying they either drowned in their caves or are sealed away forever due to the great rains flooding their caverns. Magic though, I would rather not dabble in that. The most I will permit is some sort of mythical, esoteric interpretations. Or even something like Magical Realism (see: Hundred Years of Solitude).

Without further ado, the app and territory map:

I am a bit loaded with RPs right now so I am unsure if I could join. Thankfully this game seems to have a healthy following so I wouldn't worry. Aside from that my faction would have two things that might complicate my participation. One the map emphatising island nations and thus my group of nomads having troubles with that. The other is that I would need to border other players for a more enjoyable roleplay experience. So in this aspect I'd actually wait till more claims are made even if I join.
So I'll be awaiting to what kind of nations others manage to come up with.

Name: Bashkaum Raz Han

Flag:

Location: Grey

History:
The warmongering country of Bashkaum Raz Han was created by Sartusch the all mighty after he got thrown out of a warmonger clan called Golug Ma when Golug Ma lost a big battle against one of the other clans in the area the people were looking for a leader and that is when Sartusch took his chance and made sure that the people that he had been fighting with and against had a future in this world in this very big clan that took over a country Sartusch word was law and anyone who was stupid enough to stand against him "Disappeared".

When Sartusch noticed that being a clan would not give them a good future so he decided to change it to a country, creating laws, making city guards and starting an army so that they can take over more territory and not be seen as violent brutes.

When the storm started and life got tough a lot of the clans split off and tried to survive on their own

After the storm started and the seas started rising Sartusch thought that this was their god telling him that it was time to step down from being the leader and appoint his son Kando who brought back the brute force of their army and the tough tradition of their country.

When the seas lowered and the storm subsided Kando brought his country back to glory and made sure that they settled land and fix their economy and rebuild the cities and towns that got flooded and destroyed under the storm.

Now Kando has reunited all the clans that split off and helped them back on their feet even though they stabbed his father in the back when they needed to stick together the most. Bashkaum Raz Han is now a thriving country that has a majority of the population in their Warband.

Yes.

@Duck

It better. I'm tempted to not honor claims without applications. So you better get those apps out and done.

I literally don't make it very hard.

The Hatui Islands

The Corsair Kings

The Hatui were once a modest people, living simple lives as goat herders in the high places of the world. They were long subjugated by other, more advanced civilizations and toiled beneath the heavy boot of thralldom and oppression. Their only solace was in their gods, marked out in the starry skies above, watching over them in solemn silence. As decades of slavery turned into centuries, the Hatui were hardened, and a strong belief in strength through unity of faith and culture evolved. They had perhaps been subdued as a people, but their way of life would endure.

Then came the floods.

As the deluge turned the valleys and lowlands first into lakes and later into seas, the Hatui became more and more isolated from their previous masters. With the isolation came freedom and autonomy, and although the people suffered from the drowning rains there was also a kind of spiritual renaissance or awakening among them. For the first time in remembered history they were the masters of their own fate, such as it was. The former herders adapted to the new world, becoming fishermen and sailors. But as the yoke of oppression was lifted, the struggle for power emerged. While still being united in their way of life, settlements began waging wars and skirmishes against each other for control of territory and resources. During a large part of their modern history, the Hatui were constantly fighting among themselves.

At the end of the era of infighting, some of the settlements began venturing into the outside world, discovering other kingdoms and peoples. Where the Hatui had once been isolationist, they slowly became more cosmopolitian, welcoming trade and interactions with foreign actors. Far from all of these interactions were peaceful, however, as the Hatui had become warlike during their long period of strife. It was soon not rare to hear of Hatuan raids on coastal villages and ports, where buildings were burned and people taken slaves. Some foreign nations took advantage of the circumstances and employed Hatuan corsairs as privateers, sending them to harrass their rivals.

Today, the Hatui are known for their brutality and are sometimes referred to as the Corsair Kings by outsiders. They are a people that are as likely to trade with you as strike you down and steal your possessions. Traversing through their territories is a dangerous venture as pirates could appear at any time, but still people try. The larger settlements on the Hatui islands are said to hold some of the greatest markets seen in the world, and the rumor is that anything can be bought there if you have the money to spare.

And still, after all this time, the heart of the Hatuan culture has endured. They still pray to the same gods and employ the same principles of morality today as they did almost a millennia ago.

In the days of old, when the Land was still young and forming, the Ayu people migrated from their homeland of the western isles, seeking a new land to call their own. The Isles had be fruitful in the beginning years and borne great harvest for the Ayu. Yet as seasons came and went, the once fertile land grew sickly and each harvest yielded less than the previous, until finally the earth was barren. The Ayu simply refer to this now as "The Ash", rightfully named as the dirt was gray- crumbling substance akin to ash. In fear of death, the Ayu took to the sea, in search of a new homeland. A season later, On the brink of starvation, they'd find salvation.

The land they discovered was vast, sporting sprawling forest and wide plains, and the craggy faces of mountains. Wildlife was plentiful, over-abundant even, and the Ayu feasted on this game on the first day. They would dub it "The Blessed Day", and later generations would celebrate such by feasting as their ancestors did. When the first hoe struck the soil, they tilled fertile earth rich in nutrients. The first harvests were so plentiful that the Ayu collectively sacrificed the abundance to crude totems of the gods. Later, this would become the "The Giving Day". That season they named the land "Ayutule", "Tule" meaning home, so the overall translation was "Ayu Home" or "Home of the Ayu".

The Ayu would govern themselves by the High Speaker, an individual who held the power to "Speak with the gods themselves". Major community actions had to be approved by this individual, while lesser actions were to be approved by members of his council, better known as the twelve magi, or "sorcerers". In time Ayutule would become the land of knowledge and "magic", with scholar and adventurer alike visiting the Great Library, which contained text on nearly every human endeavor up to present time. It was not uncommon for practitioners of the mystic art to been seen on the streets, attempting to convince the common citizen that it did exist. Unbeknownst to these "wizards", what they practiced was little more than basic science and alchemy. Nevertheless, practicing "magic" has led to the minor chemical discoveries that could enhance everyday life if used correctly. Ayutule would also be home to craftsmen of all sort, be that carpenters, engineers, or smiths; their steel becoming the item of legend.

Then came the Deluge. When the skies wept, Ayutule was ravaged by violent torrents of water. The pious tried with great effort to preserve the churches, to no avail as they were ravaged by the bitter storms. Every effort was made to preserve the knowledge within the Great Library, to which was mostly successful, though nearly 3 score of knowledge was lost to the elements. When the rains subsided, the Ayu set to rebuilding their cities and sought to replace what texts were lost. Present day, Ayutule is once again the land of study and artisans, and most importantly, Knowledge
