Background
Some students in Kurtzpel University were passionate. Others were naturally proficient. But Albrecht Dietrich was simply prestigious. Ever since he was a child, he had all the educational benefits that came with wealth, from tutors to boarding schools to subscriptions to multiple online resources, and he had parents that would drive him towards it as well. A lawyer? A doctor? A pilot? No, those were far too lowbrow when he stood to inherit the grandeur of the Dietrichs’ multinational conglomeration, which had a grasp that ranged from pharmaceuticals to big data, and the sheer amount of resources he had available to him served to make him one of the highest scoring students in his class, all at a small, small cost of any independence or agency.

Really, when the bus smashed into the 18-wheeler and his head splattered against the window, Albrecht’s last thought was simply ‘Good riddance’.

And when he found himself remade to the preference of a capricious Goddess, he couldn’t help but celebrate.

Maybe now he’d actually have a shot at living for himself.

A tattered, dirt stained cloak covers the grim hero's body, obscuring their figure and darkening the stubbled, gaunt outline of their face. Jagged features wrought with rough olive skin stare out at the world. Shaggy hair creeps from underneath, dark and bestial as the gravelly voice that speaks from within. Straps of leather, buckles of iron and steel, and salvaged plates of mismatched mail cover the creature's body, not a single scrap of metal so new or unweathered as to shine. The belts and studs clatter as they move. The heavy, disheveled state of their attire never weighs on the graceful, springing gait of a predator. The stigmata of the goddess is stricken down their back, burning chevrons to mark the new contestant.

Irene was a passionate student of the arts, and had held interests in cinematography and film theory from an early age. She naturally gravitated towards challenge, and the most difficult questions of all, in her opinion, were the human questions. Emotions, beliefs, sensations, the facets of the persona captivated her, and nowhere did they mingle as freely as in the visual arts. Composition was a language all its own to study, with as many dialects as there were viewers. It was fortunate then, that she was pretty good at writing papers on it because she had a much harder time learning actual languages. Compared to the prodigious polyglots, theoretical physicists, and bioinformaticians she rubbed shoulders with at KU, Leotta's was something of a dim star, though a star nonetheless. Perhaps because of her relatively soft field of study she has always wondered whether or not she was added to 14-A strictly to round out the roster. Being a brilliant student all the same, she took the time to dip into some fields and was forced into others by Kurtzpel's course load. The sciences made storytelling believable when it needed to be. They also greatly contributed to pyrotechnics; she was an optimist.

Optimism served her very poorly on the day of her death. She had been looking forward to visiting the Glasgow Film Festival more than whatever stuffy academic function they had been on the way to. Her daydreaming over the idyllic (overcast) Scottish countryside had been cut short as men began to bark orders and brandish weapons. Irene had been near the front of the bus. Irene had stood up. Her token resistance had gotten a boxcutter pointed in her direction, but they had no time for a denouement. The bus rapidly slowed below 50 miles per hour. Stopped entirely, actually. No bomb under the bus went off, but that didn't make the landing any easier.

The Beast at The End


The beast folk are a meek folk, without the storied history of the other races, without the protection of their precious goddess. Their kinds are many, scattered, alike only as they all struggle to exist. The few legends shared by their kind identify this, hold up that tenacity as an identity all its own. A beast is not named so for the pattern of its stripes, nor for the length of its tail. A beast is named so because it will fight until the end, with tooth and nail and less if need be, until the last breath leaves its body. Every century brings the trials, the endless hordes of darkspawn who care little for the social classes of the Holy Continent. While the demons reave and pillage without discrimination the Huma, shepherds of the land, look on from the protection of their goddess, without care for the lesser races. No one variation can narrow down when, but in the cycles of that never ending conflict the legend of an avenger was born. A creature of no tribe in particular, usually alike to the one telling the story, who dared to stand and fight. This nameless hero is always the same in spirit, breaking steel and struggling valiantly, raging against the dying of the light until it is done. They are fated to die, it is sacrifice for others unlike them that makes their legend. They are brought to the world with the same empty hands they will inevitably face the end with, the weapons that will clutter their path means to an end, and a symbol for the transience of all things.

Physical Abilities:


Weapon Proficiency

All weapons are equally worthless in the hands of this brute. Their determined strength is enough to force any blade home, and render horrific effects with striking weapons. For weapons which require finesse... Well, they're good for a few hits, right? Their dexterity is not so poor as to render them incompatible with such instruments, but their fighting style is too harsh for daintier weapons to survive. Blunt instruments tend to survive longer while being swung wildly, and so the beast has developed an affinity for them when they are at hand. Most of the time, however, a fight will be decided with their bare hands. Fighting without a weapon is no longer such an unsettling thing when you can grow claws.

Resilient Body

The beast is by no means as durable as a monster or demon, but when compared to their human self they stack up rather favorably. Wounds heal over days, instead of weeks. Trauma that should have been fatal or sent her spiraling into shock is suppressed by the flood of adrenaline and bloodlust that combat brings. In effect, physical damage is somewhat mitigated, and the consequences of injury are more forgiving in her new form.

Magical Abilities:


Shapeshifter

Less an ability and more a condition in her current state, Irene's shapeshifting has thus far been involuntary and permanent. Reconstituted by the Goddess and crammed into the class of a beast, she became unrecognizable from her human form. No longer a representative of Irene Leotta but a symbol of the Bestia people, the beast's natural shapeshifting has molded her in their image. Irene is physically indistinguishable from an adult Bestia male. Her magical capability is utterly minimal, rendering her incapable of controlling this ability beyond the default setting chosen by the Goddess.

Out of all the legends passed down through the ages, none are as elusive or feared as the traveler who people claim to be one with the forest itself. They say the traveler has an affinity with wind magic that is unheard of, which rivals most Elfa. Allegedly a righteous individual, different versions of the legend give the hero different allies and rivals. The one rival all legends have in common is the forces of Darkness. Their face is rarely ever shown. This hero would be blessed by the Goddess with a cloak that allows them to burst into leaves.

Background
Fae was born to be the head of the Jilan Fashion Company, one of the most famous and glorious brands. Everyone of her class would have heard of this brand. The connections her and her family members had were invaluable, all due to her incredible stepfather. Her father was a benevolent man. He was adaptable, strong-willed, compassionate, courageous, generous, passionate, sympathetic, sensible, even witty! Everyone else knew him as one of the most cunning businessmen in the world. The Jilan family was nothing without him, and the workers would be even less! Any ordinary person would kill to be in the family. They were nothing short of perfect. If someone had the luck to be born under their family name, they would be set for life. They wouldn't have to work for anything! Even education would be handed to them on a silver platter if their stepfather paid enough!

...is how those on the outside would describe her family. To understand how the family is now, though, you also have to understand how they were before her father appeared.

Although the family wouldn't be as prestigious, rich, or powerful without her father, it'd be false to insinuate that they would be nothing. Before Fae's stepfather married into the family, there were only three members. Fae, her mother Maria, her grandfather Léon, and her sister Lydia. The company was not world renowned as it is today, but it was known. Trustworthy and reliable, with fair work conditions and decent business practices. That was what the company was known for. Somewhere along the line, things changed. Of course, the sudden shift in business practices or the new and shady business partners that the company began to have wasn't common public knowledge. But the company's workers were well aware of it. The company began to use strategies such as cheap labor, allowing dangerous working conditions, and doing whatever it takes to destroy the competition.

This shift started because of Fae's stepfather. When her grandfather's health started to deteriorate, he needed someone to inherit the company. Fortunately for him, her mother had just married a new man, one that already had a business of his own. Her husband had more knowledge of running a business than she did, meaning that it was fairly simple for the husband to convince Léon to allow him to inherit the company. Not only was there a shift in the company's practices, there was a shift in the family as well.

The moment her stepfather inherited the company, he had changed. Until then he was a kind and loving father. He did whatever he could to support his children. He provided the family with whatever they needed. Spending time with him was fun for Fae and her sister, oftentimes it was the favorite part of their days. But as soon as the company was his, he turned cold. Arrogant. Manipulative. He paid little to no mind to how his children actually felt, nor did he spend time with them. To make his children stop talking about him, he paid them. When money didn't work, it turned to threats of disownment. When even that didn't work, it would escalate to harming them. Anything to force them to like him. Anything to win.

Her mother also changed, but not in the same way. She became scared. Scared of what would happen if she tried to stop him. The company was more powerful than it ever was before. If she attempted to get rid of her husband, what would happen then? All of the safety her family had would come crashing down. And if her husband wasn't afraid to do anything to win, what would he do to her? His own wife? This stress began to build up. She couldn't take it anymore. She had to do something about him, she couldn't just sit and watch her children suffer because of his actions!

So she tried.

This was due in part to the condition of her family. It started out with her mother and stepfather arguing at night, when they thought their daughter wouldn't hear. Then the two became increasingly distant. Dinners turned from a lively, carefree occasion to being tense and full of spite. Enjoyable times spent with her father became scarcer and scarcer. The time spent with her mother ceased to exist. Instead, it turned to finding empty alcohol bottles everywhere. The more Fae found, the more her mother disappeared. If Fae wanted to see her, she started having to go to the hospital rather than simply going to her mother's room. Soon, there were no more chances to visit her.

Anguish, confusion, and feelings of melancholy all turned to anger. Anger directed to her stepfather, for taking her mother away from her. Anger directed to the company, for taking the father figure she used to know and turning him into a villain. Anger directed at herself, for being too weak to stop him. As a result of this anger, she began to reject the thought of inheriting the company. Her habits of angrily talking back to her stepfather and wandering the manor were answered with guards watching her bedroom door, prohibiting her from getting out of her room unless it was for school or if her stepfather requested it. Unfortunately for her stepfather, she had no place in her heart for fear. No matter what he would do to her, she refused to comply with her. As a result, she lost quite a bit of monetary support from her father.

This made her work harder. This made her different from all of the prestigious, gifted students. Everything that she has, she's been forced to work for. Many of the opportunities that she found in school weren't just given to her because of her name, but because of her accomplishments that she's sacrificed so much blood, sweat, and tears for. What people saw as a natural gift in sciences and athletics were, to her, a result of her venting out her anger. Being an exceptionally high-scoring student in several fields, it was no surprise that Kurtzpel was the University she was accepted into. To many, she was simply chosen because of her name. She was determined to prove them wrong.

When she had died, her last thoughts were more of disappointment rather than sadness or regret. How would her stepfather be able to see her succeed if she was dead?

If anything, a name change was in order.

Notable Items
Forest's Cloak - A forest green hooded cloak. Allows the hero to temporarily disappear in everything else's eyes, at the cost of the hero's stamina. The hero must first flourish the cloak before its use is activated. When used, it leaves three green leaves at the spot of use. Duration of invisibility is based on both stamina and intellect.

Mask of the Wanderer - A black mask that covers the space around the eyes. The right side is made of snakeskin.

Physical Abilities
Reflexes - Tiki has the ability to sense things much better than most others. She can also react to changes in her surroundings incredibly quickly. This is what makes up for her less-than-legendary physical strength, and also is what buys time for her to plan her moves. A high degree of concentration is required to fully make use of this ability.


Magical Abilities
Wind Blast - Allows her to create a gust of wind from her hands or feet. The amount of power the gust of wind has can be controlled. This ability can be used to augment the force of their punches of kicks, change her momentum, and accelerate her movement.

Sensitivity - Tiki is capable of sensing the subtle changes in the air currents, which also allows her to detect approaching threats and ambushes.

Wind Blades - An move that has Tiki make a focused, slicing, crescent-shaped air wave using her arms, legs, or items like sticks, knives, and staves. The cutting power is dependent on how focused the air wave is. A weapon such as a staff will result in more precise and focused air movement, meaning it would be able to cut through things like timber. Using something like the arms or legs will result in a wave that has more striking power rather than cutting power.

Appearance
In her reborn state, Tiki is a thin, athletic woman with pale skin. Her attire consists of a cuffless, long-sleeve, black undershirt. Over top of the black shirt is a light green, décolletage short-sleeve tunic. She also wears a pair of thick black stockings and brown laced combat boots. Leather gauntlets cover not only the hands and forearms to act as arm guards, but they also cover the mark of the goddess on her right hand. Her outfit is topped off by the Forest's Cloak.

BACKGROUND
A programming savant, technology was always Jyu-ni's expertise. Born the daughter of two head electronic engineers for South Korea's largest chaebol, it was obvious her path in life lead to becoming one herself. Her upbringing was rather proper, if not lonely. Her parents were stuck at work all too often. They had little time to raise their child. As such, Jyu-ni was raised by dozens of caretakers. Each one only lasted a few months before finding a different child to take care of. It wasn't her fault, either. Jyu-ni was a decent child. It was just how it went with busy parents. They didn't look for anyone who would stick around.

In her loneliness, Jyu-ni went hard on studying. If she couldn't get a friend in her lonely household, couldn't she just make one? Rather than the warm embrace of her mother, she embraced cold servos. Rather than serious talks with her father, she talked like a child to anonymous people online and chat bots. In order for her to get the most appropriate upbringing, she was sent to South Korea's most prestigious schools. Extremely strict schools. Friendship was discouraged. It was all about studying and knowledge. Even though she studied her heart out and scored number one, she received no approval from faculty, peers, or even her parents. It was just as expected. Even if she created an important robot that saved lives at the age of 16, it was only as expected. If she created a neural network that could restore scans of priceless images, it was as expected. Nothing she did gave her any approval.

She hated it. No matter what she did, she was still lonely. Robots and anonymity couldn't do a thing to stifle it. When she was picked to join Kurtzpel University, she decided to complete her path in life. She wasn't meant to be a genius with technology. No, that was only as expected. Her path in life was to make some friends!

Turns out, her path in life was 'dead in a bus crash' and waking up in another world. Maybe she could finally make some friends there.

LEGEND
Born of the golems, the Dwema forged masterworks that pushed the boundaries of what could be done. However, no Dwema could manage to forge the very life that created them. They said it couldn't be done, but the constructor rose to the challenge. Forging a facsimile of life, the constructor created a golem. It was nothing more than a puppet compared to their ancestors, but it was the breath of life required to forge an army to face the darkness.

NOTABLE ITEMS
Armaments of the Creator — Formed of metal and magic, they take the form of two massive arms that float behind the wielder. They act as sword, shield, forge, and hammer in order to protect their master and create. They are freely controllable as if they were simply a second set of arms. By acting as a conduit for magic, they are able to bend and warp metal and inscribe life upon them.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES
Dwema Physique — Jyu-ni looks tougher than she looks. She can easily eat a few blows without crumbling into a mess, but she still feels it the next day.
Short — Cursed with the eternal height of 4', Jyu-ni is able to easily pick things up from the floor while being unable to reach the top shelf.


MAGICAL ABILITIES
Magic Condensing — Jyu-ni is able to condense raw mana into semi-volatile crystals. This allows for the usage of large spells to be cast without leylines, the powering of golems and other automatons, and improvised explosive devices. In the case of powering golems, Jyu-ni is able to inscribe "directions" on it, forming a makeshift computer of raw mana in order to act as the golem's brain and heart.
Manaforge Metallurgy — Using raw mana, Jyu-ni is able to turn metal into liquid without heat. From there, she can shape it how she chooses. Infusing it with a small amount of her magic, she's able to give metal simple orders to follow. Metal already infused with magic, be it her own or an enchanted weapon, is immune to the manaforge.

Background

Phann wasn’t born into the best of circumstances, her mother had died giving birth to her and her father had never forgiven her for that. There wasn’t ever a time that her father showed any kind of love towards Phann and when he got drunk, he used to do things to hurt her. She was 6 years old when her father finally went too far, lashing out at her in a drunken rage and permanently marking her face and body.

After that Phann was taken away from home and at the orphanage where she was kept her academic prowess was discovered. Over the next few years she would take to science and philosophy, particularly the latter developing an ethics model in her head and at some point, deciding to stop caring about other people’s judgment and start acting like a crazy person, reasoning that it caused no harm and anyone who would judge her for such behavior or the scars on her face was unworthy of her opinion.

Unfortunately for Phann, as smart as she was, no one wanted to adopt a child so horribly scared, especially not one that spent most of their time in public acting like a lunatic and eventually she ended up applying for a scholarship at Kurtzpel. After some debate as to whether it would be more damaging for the university to accept a crazy person or for Phann to publicize her entrance exam results and tell the public she was denied entry, Phann was begrudgingly accepted into the school. Needless to say, in a high-class university filled with stuck up rich kids Phann didn’t make many friends.

Phann had watched the hijackers go about their business wanting to do something but for whatever reason finding herself unable to do anything but stare, she saw as the truck sped towards them and in the moments before the eight-wheeler collided with the bus time seemed to slow for Phann as she flinched slightly, she wasn’t really that afraid of dying, she’d long since come to terms with death, in fact, living seemed like a scarier prospect if anything and as far as Phann knew no one would miss her, still she was worried it might hurt a little.


Legend: The Crimson Jester

The Crimson Jester, bringer of madness, killer of kings. One of the better-known legends, if the details are a little unclear. The Crimson Jester is said to be a potent hemomancy and schemer of epic proportions, that parades as a jester and often appears shortly after the emergence of great evil, particularly the emergence of tyrants or similar, from here they are said to go about orchestrating some elaborate scheme to bring their adversary down in some dramatic fashion.

Stealth and subterfuge are the Crimson Jesters weapons, known for spending years formulating complex multi-layered schemes ending in a dramatic and often humiliating loss for their quarry. More than a few times the has the Crimson Jester masqueraded as an ordinary fool, infiltrating corrupt kingdoms and collapsing them from the inside. While they love to put on a good show historically the Jester has shown no need to be in the spotlight, leading a number of scholars to speculated that the Jester has appeared many more times than are recorded and has simply gone unnoticed.

As for the Jesters true nature, there is a great divide in opinion. Some say that they’re a champion of the people, fighting for what he believes is right and bringing joy to those in need. Others would say they’re a scoundrel, devoid of honour and utterly insane. In actuality it’s a combination of both.

Notable Items

Crimson Jesters Garbs: The Crimson Jesters Garbs are a set of magical vestments, always appearing as a many-pocketed jesters costume colored in some combination of red and black or white. The garb itself has a number of magical properties, making it worthy of the Jester’s legend.
Firstly, it has many of the standard features of a legendary magical item, including being very hard to destroy or permanently damage.
And secondly, the outfit has transformative abilities that seemingly operate off a mind of its own. Other than completely changing how it appears almost daily it will often make minor alterations to its appearance, like changing a glove or inverting its pattern, when observers, particularly those unaware of this feature, look away. Seemingly the only purpose for this is to confuse and infuriate onlookers.

An Assortment of Props: The Jester is armed with a large assortment of props that one would expect to be found in a novelty store or held by a stage performer. While this seemingly limitless supply is all high quality and durable it lacks any magical capabilities.

Dirty Fighter: Phann doesn’t see any innate good in honour and as such doesn’t practice it. In a fight Phann utilises deception and trickery, prioritising debilitating and crippling her enemies in a fight, all things she excels at.
Nimble: Small, flexible and nimble Phann uses all of these traits to their fullest extent, weaving in and out of enemies and allies alike in combat and constantly running around both in and out of a fight.
Performer: As the Crimson Jester Phann is gifted in just about every type of stage performance or party trick, particularly favouring magic tricks, acrobatics and theatrics.
Skulduggery: Phann is naturally skilled in stealth, subterfuge and deception.

Magical Abilities

Hammer Space: Phann has the ability to place objects non-living objects into a personal hammerspace by removing them from perspective. Due to the way this ability works she must move the object she is trying to store, and no one can be visually observing it at the point it is stored.
Heamomancer: Though Phann still requires access to a leyline to catalyze her magic once she’s going, she burns through lifeforce rather than drawing mana from leylines themselves. The advantage to this is that even in areas where leylines are weak she can use her power at full potency and spells that would take other casters time to gather energy for she can do so near instantaneously, with the drawback being the use of one's own lifeforce being a risky endeavor.
Novice Blood Mage: In spite of having the potential to become a potent spellcaster Phann has very little knowledge on spellcraft itself, with the exception of being an average illusionist and having the unique capability to manipulate her own blood through magic.
