But with that in mind, most people are dead already. I'm guessing chances are slim to none that many people got several feet away from their shadow, let alone escape to shade. Side note, do these things loose their form in shadowy areas?

Point is, I doubt we have to worry about a actual human collateral in that regatd.

@Ruiner Maybe half the city died in the first few minutes. The shadows lose their form in shadowy areas and pretty much die.

Human collateral will probably not be a huge worry.

@Bluetommy - A quick question: Do the shadow's bodies function like human bodies or are they just facsimiles? Babble can hear the sound of people's blood circulating so it'll be something to note.
