Heh - I'm thinking I've got the book table by my bed most people do :)

Currently:
Tree Grows in Brooklyn - Betty Smith
Tales of Earthsea (compilation) - the incomparable Ursula K Le Guin
Never Let Me Go - Kazuo Ishiguro (new fave writer)
Various Pratchett novels - always shifting, always present
some silly book about super heroes - junk food and easy read, but fun nevertheless and for nights when the day has just been too long to concentrate - think this one is Steelheart? Ironheart? it's good, and total teeny bop stuff.

Milk Run (Smuggler's Tales From The Golden Age Of The Solar Clipper Book 1)

*Minor Spoilers*

A very strange book. The title character is accused of murder and has to run away into exile. This murder charge is never referenced again even when she is literally talking to cops in a place that is supposed to care about it. After that there is a good deal of discussion about coffee. The book is evidently called milk run because they spend so much time talking about coffee that they run out of milk. Eventually the plot happens. The plot is largely concerned with spare parts inventory and auditing. So... much ... auditing. If you are interested in thrilling tales about how parts are scanned in and out of storage, this is the book for you. At the end something happens, but still not really very much. More coffee is consumed.

I managed to get through the whole book because there is something compelling about the protagonist although I'm not certain what but it was almost bizarrely barren of any kind of action or excitement.

One thing is certain, in space, no one can hear you make coffee.

I'm currently sifting through three different works at the moment.

The Last Wish is the first book in the witcher franchise (bar the anthology of novellas). You can definitely tell it's translated from Polish yet it has a clear and quick style I like.

The Taker of Skulls by William King I am reading for my next interview with the author, though to say I am not reading for pleasure is incorrect. It's the fifth book in the Kormak Saga but since none of them are in any chronological order I decided to go with this one. Kormak himself is a lot like a Witcher. A deadly swordsman trained by specialists and wielding a blade designed to kill old gods is something anyone can get behind.

And finally, a new nonfiction work entitled The Black Prince by Micheal Jones, which is an autobiography of the Black Prince of Wales and his experiences in the Hundred Years War. Not too far into it yet but the first chapter was well references and documented. It's a newer work so I kind of had to get it.
