Eryn Montero

Route 5 || Day 4: Night || @PlatinumSkink

“Am I just really bad at fishing or something?” Eryn asked as she threw her nth catch back into the lake, watching as the wild equivalent of Tula disappeared into the dark. Four hooks, all Magikarps. She wouldn’t have been mad if she didn’t know there were other fish in the water, but she did know. It was Dragon Lake, for Arceus’ sake, and besides dragons and the occasional water-type swimming by, there were swarms of Carvanah. So many Eryn had to wonder how the Magikarp were managing to hold on.

Peri gave grinding snicker as Eryn packed up her Old Rod, muttering under her breath. Because of her—or perhaps because of the rod, because if it was because of the rod, she’d be able to shed blame and continue feeling pretty good about her fishing skills—it was now all up to Tula who, speaking of, had popped up in the water in front of her

“Oh Tula, you’re back!” Kneeling down, she scooped her Magikarp out of the water, swearing in her mind that Tula was at least twice as heavy and five times as sturdy as any of the wilds she’d fished. “Did you have any luck? I didn’t get anything on my end.”

Tula stared up at her, eyes unblinking as she wriggled.

Struggling to keep somewhat of a hold on the Magikarp to avoid dropping her, Eryn grinned. “Good news?”

On cue, Dei and Eri’s conversation ceased, and Eryn stuck her tongue out at them. “Go back to being exclusive, you two,” she said, ‘hmph’-ing for good measure before she refocused on Tula. “So, you found someone to take us to the ruins?”

Tula wriggled.

“Where are they?” Eryn backpedalled. “Are they around here?”

Tula stayed still, and Eryn frowned.

“Er, are you sure they’re going to help get us to the ruins?”

Tula wriggled, this time more insistently, if wriggling could be deemed insistent.

“Right, right, okay. So where do we meet them? At the ruins or something?”

Tula wriggled, and Eryn’s brows went up, but she quickly recovered with a grin.

“Tula! You’re amazing! Well, I knew you could do it. You don’t need me to tell you that you’re the most amazing Magikarp, right? Because you are, one hundred percent,” she said, grinning and rubbing Tula’s head. Then, realizing the time, she paused. “... Say, Tula, do you suppose they’d be willing to wait until morning?”

Tula wriggled.

“Okay, do you want to go tell them?”

Tula stilled, and Eryn frowned again.

“Er, no as in you don’t want to tell them, or as in they’d probably be fine with it?”

Tula wriggled, and Eryn realized that she’d phrased her question awkwardly. But, considering how happy Tula looked and how tiredness was slowly beginning to shine through her energetic wriggles, Eryn figured that it was due time for bed. So, adjusting her grip on Tula, she looked around at her team, patting Dei and Eri on their heads to get their attention.

“Back to town? I’m beat,” she said, muffling a yawn with a hand.

Eri stood, his Umbreon form arching its back with a stretch, and Dei stood as well, breathing a smokey yawn. Peri, on the other hand, rolled into motion without any sign of tiredness, which looked more forced with every second Eryn spent looking at her. She met Dei’s gaze with a smug look, which the Charmander returned with a snort and eye roll, and Eryn laughed, pushing her smaller team members along the path back to town.

“You all are getting healed and tucked away A. S. A. P, got it?” she said tiredly. “And say goodnight to Peri first, because she’s not going to fit in the Pokemon Center. Got it? Dei? Dei!

Lakewatch Town || Day 5: Morning

A grin hung on Eryn’s mouth as she walked towards where she’d agreed to meet Wilhelm. Having managed to both remember and gather the strength to send a text the night prior, she was now on her way to where the ruins were, her Pokemon at her side. Whoever Tula had managed to find to help them would be there as well—she was sure of that. Not because she didn’t doubt that the situation was rather unbelievable, because it was. Simply put, Eryn trusted Tula, because one couldn’t carry a Magikarp for multiple days and still expect betrayal.

“Alright, where’s that self-described ‘Ruin Maniac’? And where’s your mysterious new friend, Tula?” Eryn asked, looking around the designated meeting spot.

In her arms, Tula wriggled excitedly.

"Alright! Another victory!~" Claire did a little jump, pumping one fist into the air as Hughes final pokemon went down. Tez, as impassive as ever made a little clinking noise as it did its best impression of excitement. "And hey, maybe focus less on them being strong, and maybe try and use some clever strats or somethin'." She offered in suggestion as she collected Ralia from where she was doing her usual cheer leading. Making sure the small pokemon was secured on in her hoodie, she flashed a smile and grin towards the other trainer. "See yas!~" She zoomed off, the Mach Bike kicking up a small stream of dust, that just so happened to blast right onto the other trainers face.

She zoomed through the rest of route 8, not bothering to take a moment to enjoy the scenery from atop the cliffs overlooking the sea. Ralia enjoyed the wind from her perch on Claire's shoulders, taking a moment to have a nice relaxing ride with her trainer.

"Hey, so what do you think the other trainers are up to?" She asked Ralia, frowning a bit.

"Rrraaaal?" Ralia tilted her head to the side.

"We ran into Maple and Ellyn in Mt. Strength, but we haven't seen many of the others." Claire turned the bike, zooming down a hill towards Route six. "Wonder if any of them has a badge yet. I'd really like to battle 'em."

"Ral." Ralia tilted her head back to the other side, holding one of her little hands to her face.

"Like 'ya know, We all started at the same time so I gotta see how good they all are." Claire sighed. "Eh, I guess after that Stillwood loss, I'm feeling a out of it, I guess. Didn't expect to win the entire time, but ow my pride."

"Ralts." Ralia poked Claire's cheek, earning a small laugh from her.

"Eh? What? The pokedex?"

"Rrraaaal!~"

"Well, yeah, I could probably call them, but I don't have their numbers."

"Ral~" Seeming set on it, Ralia jumped onto Claire's head.

"Whatever it is you're thinking about doing, don't." Claire flatly stated, frowning and looking up to the impish pokemon sitting on her head who innocently laughed...before lifting Claire's bag with her psychic energy and fishing out her pokedex. Unfortunately, this had the side effect of pulling the bag itself into Claire's field of view -

"GEH!?" Claire ran her bike right into a flock of fletchling. One slammed right into her face, and sent her flying off her bike. Making sure to pose just as dramatically, with a hand near her forehead and a particularly graceful launch as she hit the ground, rolling a few feet across the ground.

"...ow. My cute face."

"Rraaaal~" Ralia landed on the back of her head as she had teleported at the last second, Claire's pokedex landing right in her tiny, mischievous hands.

"Ah, it's a good thing my head's harder than the ground...No treats for you." Claire grumbled, as she got up, confiscating her pokedex back and shoving it back in her pocket.

"R-raal?!"

"At least we made it to Raremine." Claire rubbed the side of her head, Ralia having teleported back to her shoulder and giving her trainer the best puppy-dog eyes the psychic type could manage. Picking her bike off the ground, Claire folded it up and put it back in her bag and headed into the city.

Claire, as usual when she arrived at a new city, spent the first few moments simply taking in the sights. There was a natural charm to the city, somewhat like Stillwood. The dry, arid air was definitely not something she liked though. She could already almost taste the dry, coarse sand. Ugh, that was going to get everywhere if she went into the desert, wasn't it? The redhead first stopped by the pokemon center to heal up her pokemon.

She wanted to stop by the research lab first - but something else had caught her eye. The Bug Garden. The Gym was also of note, but she'd look at that later after training a bit more. After her loss at Stillwood, she was feeling a bit more cautious about challenging gyms just yet.

"Hmm...what'cha say we stop by there first girl?" She asked Ralia. Ralia gave a small cry of affirmation. Heh, maybe she could find a Scyther there.

A walk later through the decently normal city of Pureplain, also known as the gateway to Isson on account of its contact with the other regions, and Basil would have seen a bunch of different young trainers trying to catch varying Normal-types around town because it’s the season for new Pokémon Trainers. Some directions later, and Basil arrived at the Pokémon Lab, a decently normal building with the attachment of another one next to it… and all of that.

And, of course, the fact there was a Pokémon battle happening right in front of him, in the front yard of the lab. A girl and a boy around his age were in battle, a curled up Sentret rolling to attack a currently fleeing Budew in a rather odd fashion, because the Budew was faster than the Sentret…

Watching the battle was, indeed, someone who looked a lot like someone Basil might know of if he watched the Pokémon League on televisions in Isson or something like that, an Elite Four in all his glory, watching this lowest of low level battles with a little smirk on his face.

There was also a duo of small brown-haired boys shouting encouragements to the Pokémon in the battle.

‘Roll all over that plant!’
‘Drain that bunny dry!’ … They were calling out excitedly.

But of course, also here was the woman he was looking for. A blonde woman in glasses, a lab-coat that isn’t present in the image, an attentive look and The one that basically immediately looked over in interest as Basil approached, and waved at him to come closer.

‘Ah! Basil! You found us! Come over here!’ Kalmia called happily, in order to get his attention.

‘… Huh, you had another kid lined up?’ Jacques asked, giving Basil a curious look. Kalmia utterly ignores him because Basil is more important right now.

‘Cyril, you can keep up the battle, I’m going to see to Basil for a moment, we’ll be back!’ Kalmia told Cyril, before waving to Basil to follow her into the lab itself.

Inside the lab was a rectangular room, but the usable space was more round because the room had bookshelves placed in a circle around an area in the middle, not properly taking advantage of the space in the corners. The shelves contained varying books and papers of research, as well as the occasional Pokéballs. In the back and right, a large amount of what appeared to be computer servers filled about 40% of the available space, and they were coupled to a laptop which stood on a desk to the left of it. Other than the laptop, there was also a large amount of papers and binders on it, making it impossible to place anything else on there.

To the right of the table was a healing station from a Pokémon Center, with places to place six Pokéballs, along with a large cylinder thing with a glass middle and a hatch that one likely were to place something moderately large within. There was nothing that said what it actually was. While it was tight in here, it was still decently maneuverable and Kalmia likely knew where everything she wanted was. Also in here, were numerous Pokémon. They are, perhaps not entirely limited to,

From Claire (Rune_Alchemist) a Beedrill and a Ledyba.
From Erika (Pirouette) a Poliwag and a Pikachu.
From Erza (Ephemeral) a Meowth, a Lillipup, a Growlithe, a Castform and a Duskull.
From Amelia (Joshua Tamashii) a Yamask, Golett and a Spiritomb.
From Skylar (Gardevoiran) a Goomy.

As well as a Slowpoke, resting on the servers over there. Yupp, decently crowded.

‘You weren’t the only trainer starting out today, and Cyril arrived first, so I handled him, but, alright, here we are…’ Kalmia said as she fished up some items out of one of her drawers. She looked satisfied with them, and headed over to Basil to deliver the first one.

'Alright. So, first. The Pokédex, which I received from Professor Oak that I now present to you for the purpose of indexing the region of Isson. Here you go,'

‘… And then, of course. Your Pokémon,’ Kalmia said with a smile, as she held up a Pokéball, giving Basil a smile as she held it forward for him. ‘I think this little gal should serve you excellently,’ she said.

Skylar got a few amused looks by people as he walked by with his entire team out, because while it happened it wasn’t all that common and was definitely a sign of a trainer on their Pokémon journey, so the older villages seeing him definitely were all smiles and the younger ones looked on in comparable amazement.

With that, Skylar sat down and attempted to watch the Pidgeys with his eyes. His Pokémon did whatever, he was indeed correct in that there wasn’t much experience to be gained at his level around here. While Skylar watched the Pidgeys for a considerable while, there wasn’t many signs of any Pidgeys with any different colourations.

That is, assuming that blurry thing over there wasn’t a pink Pidgey. Not that Skylar could see what exactly it was.

Did the other Pokémon see it? Nope, they’re currently resting or being distracted by one another.

Maybe he tried pulling the Pokédex on it… nope, it’s gone.

Perhaps there was a location around here where he could potentially hear more about whatever that was?

What will Skylar do now?

Florrie caught a Spritzee!

That aside. When it became apparent that Dawkin and co were leaving, Milotic did a final little gentle nod… then perked up, her attention focusing on the horizon past the sandstorm. She opened her mouth… and a loud, yet serene-sounding call echoed out of her, across the desert. As Dawkin heard it, it was like the sound itself was inherently calming, albeit he wasn’t the intended recipient at this time. After her call was done. Milotic slipped down into the waters of the Mythic Oasis again, swimming down to the bottom to rest until the next time she’d be needed.

Meanwhile, Dawkin told Florrie about the situation from before while also letting Vivillon lead them back to Raremine Town. As Florrie heard of the strange man’s actions…

‘Th-that sounds… like he might be involved in the thing that happened to Zygarde! Zygarde is a legendary Pokémon too, after all, and if he’s hunting them…’ Florrie shuddered, looking worried. ‘If so, gathering up Zygarde again might be even more important than before…! We must tell the Professor about this…’ Florrie concluded.

The trip back to Raremine Town was not particularly eventful, just following Vivillon back to town. This time Florrie donated one of her Potions to heal what damage Vivillon took from the sandstorm. Soon enough, they got back to town.

However, arriving in town… there appears to be quite a commotion going on. There were miners and scientists running about, cooperating with various Psychic and Ground-type Pokémon searching various buildings one by one, like some strike-force looking for criminals or something. Overhead flew a Pidgeot which Dawkin would remember to have been Leila’s, from last time someone tried to steal something from her, scanning the town and around from above, soaring in a circle. What now?

Oh, and Alec the Ninja Kid is still right here. He didn’t get any other memo to be elsewhere. He needed the help to get out of the sandstorm, anyway. Still holding the Espurr he was adopted by from the oasis.

After tumbling a bit, Claire entered Raremine Town! First, she went to heal… Bunches of workers walk around and being reasonably happy, and Claire had an immediate destination in mind.

Then she made her way through the hot town towards a specific location… but first, here’s a tiny random event that she just happens to run by, because this is the only time I can really do this event.

There are a group of people gathered in front of the research lab. These individuals specifically don’t actually look all that happy. Judging by their attires and helmets that they wear 100% of the time, they’re workers and they’re being met by a number of scientists. Leading the two groups are two sets of modestly attractive women.

‘… we already caught one of your assistants red-handed! Now, let us search the laboratory for clues already!’ told the red-haired one spearheading the miners.

‘What, exactly, did you catch Collin doing?’ the blonde woman asked, crossing her arms and frowning.

‘Stealing our ancient Pokémon! We have a whole pen that’s currently empty! Let us search your lab already!’

‘The lab has no connections to Collin’s actions. I would request I get to interrogate him myself-’

‘Of course you’d say that! But now that one of your assistants have been caught with their hand in the cookie-jar, we don’t feel we can trust you!’

‘There is very sensitive equipment in the lab! We can allow perhaps one or two of you to do rounds and-!’

‘That’s just not going to cut it-!’

The two were arguing with one another, the miners and the scientists looking at one another with significant annoyance… until a sudden echo, sounding something alike a Pokémon’s call, rang out over them from what appeared to be across the desert. There was something inherently calming about the tune that sounded out, and all of a sudden the inhabitants around the entrance of the lab found themselves calmed down…

‘… I’ll leave Claydol with you to check the lab, but otherwise my miners will look for the culprits. I’ve buried Ground-type Pokémon around town, they won’t get anywhere underground,’ the red-haired miner leader told.

‘We’ll send Psychic Pokémon to try to check if they’ve teleported away. Meanwhile, Perseus, my Pidgeot, will be scouting the skies. They won’t get far. Let’s work together,’ the blonde scientist leader told, and there was suddenly an agreement.

With that, the two sides that were previously at one another’s throats suddenly decided to work together and look for the real criminals, all because of some mysterious call from the desert…

Regardless! That wasn’t Claire’s destination! Her destination was the Bug Garden! If she still wanted to go, that is. Or, otherwise, we can make it so that she went to the Bug Garden first, did her business there, THEN went and saw this scene at the research lab. That works too.

The Bug Garden was a building, a fairly large building with plants around it and promising more plants inside.

There were signs.

“Bug Garden

Feel free to visit and enjoy
Vivillons for the purpose of finding the Mythic Oasis can be hired for 750P per day
They are not for fighting
The Pokémon in the garden are wild, but we appreciate avoiding holding battles in the garden

Thank you for your consideration”

What would Claire do in Raremine Town?

Basil had questions, several questions, like who were those two trainers battling and why are those two brown haired twins so eager for blood. The big question though was why one of the Elite Four watching a battle that was not exactly of highest stakes or level. He was to afraid to ask and he was completely uncertain about what to do, looking around with a slight panic for the professor, but luckily it looked like she found him. Really, he did not know how he did not notice the woman wearing the white lab coat. He sighed with relief and greeted the professor with a sheepish smile. "Uh, hello Professor Kalmia."

Wait, Jacques was looking at Basil. Why was he looking at him? Alright Basil, keep it cool, keep it cool. He repeated over and over in his head. Maybe if Basil didn't look Jacques in the eye then maybe the Elite trainer would not sense his fear.

Oh thank Arceus, they were going to go inside. Basil followed Kalmia inside and left his bag at the door. What he saw, well, it certainly was a lab alright. He imagined that it would look something out of a movie or TV show, or at least having enough space not to shoulder check the shelves. Just how in the fresh hell did she get anything done around here? There was barely any room to breathe let alone work. Also, was it safe for the Pokemon to be wandering around in such a tight space? Couldn't that Pikachu just fry the servers or the Spiritomb just be a spooky terror the other Pokemon and just cause panic?

Considering the importance of her work, wouldn't the government be more interested in funding research? At least not attached to someone's house. Can't imagine not bringing home your work when your work is your home. You know what, it's probably best not to think about these things.

Besides, with a Pokedex presented to him it would be hard to think of anything else. It was a dark, desaturated purple for the main body with silver streaking through the middle. An actual, honest to god Pokedex from Professor Oak presented by Kalmia. In that moment, he was then struck by a stream of words as she explained everything. She must have been tired repeating it to every newbie trainer that walked through her doors. "Thank you very much Ms., I mean, Professor Kalmia. I won't let you down!" He said, perhaps a bit too eagerly as he tried to show that he had some sort of confidence. She was trusting him to complete the journey, not remain a spineless Jellicent.

More importantly, Kalmia presented him with a Pokeball. For a moment he thought his heart stopped. It suddenly became more real that he was doing this, that he was going to have to be responsible for living beings and take care of them and himself out on the open road. Would the Pokemon even like him? Would he even be good at this? He stared at the ball, almost afraid to receive it, visibly shaking.

Oh to hell with this! He took the ball slowly from Kalmia and looked down at it, taking a calm deep breath before releasing it from its ball with a white flash of light.

"Dar?" The little creature surveyed her surroundings before looking up at Basil with quite an inquisitive look.

Basil knelt down so he was closer to her eye level. He did not think that she would be so small, but it could probably knock the air out of his lungs if it wanted to. His hand reached out for the creature, not touching her, but allowing the pokemon to sniff it before she pushed her own head into his palm for rubs. ""You're a sweet one, aren't you. For the first time since he left home, there was a genuine smile on his face, calm, enjoying the moment.

He took this moment to scan her with his Pokedex before the device spoke in a very digital voice.

- You've obtained Darumaka! -

Pokédex Entry #554 – Darumaka, the Zen Charm Pokémon. When its internal fire burns, it cannot calm down and has to run around. When the fire diminishes, it falls asleep and pulls its limbs into its body to form a state where it will always right itself no matter how it is pushed or pulled. Because the droppings of a Darumaka never cools down, they can be used to heat clothes by those who doesn’t consider that disgusting.

- Would you like to give Darumaka a nickname? -

A nickname? The thought didn't occur to him until now."Hm... Hey little one, how do you like the name Cecil?" He didn't even get a chance to check for a reaction when his Darumaka tackled his chest, knocking him down on his back, and then snuggled on him.

"I think she likes it." Basil said with half breath. Holy Arceus above, Cecil was heavy. It took a considerable amount of effort just to sit up while holding onto the Darumaka. "Thank you so much, Professor."

So, after a bunch of shenanigans getting back to Lakewatch Town, Eryn went to the Pokémon Center…

And then nothing relevant happened until the next morning!

So, said next morning…

Travelling through the streets of Lakewatch Town once again, Eryn passed the rivers and the townspeople, a whole lot more shopkeepers and other such things, until finally she arrived at the place that she’d been hearing about. Descent Tower. Visually, it was but a tall building like any other in Lakewatch Town, the top looking like a huge water tower and the inside revealing a building flooded with water. Stairs led up, but also down, into the water and further down where no person unable to live underwater could explore. Which meant Eryn was in luck, because…

‘Quaaaaaagsire!’ a big blue creature saluted to her with an extremely dim-looking expression.

Pokédex Entry #195 – Quagsire, the Water Fish Pokémon. A very easy-going Pokémon, they swim about and don’t even mind if they bump their heads into things. When hunting, it simply opens its mouth and moves no muscles, waiting for prey to blunder in. When not moving, it expands very little energy and does not need food for a long time.

And, as she had called for, the Ruin Maniac Wilhelm came walking with a backpack filled with stuff.

‘Oho! You’ve recruited a Quagsire? I suppose that does change things!’ he told, facing towards the building. ‘You have my thanks, young Eryn! Now, shall we take a look and see what we can find?’

With that, and with whatever other delays Eryn or her team could come up with, it would eventually be time to go. Turns out that backpack of Wilhelm’s is decently useful and he’ll supplement anything Eryn feels like she’s missing for an underwater venture. Still, time to change how Dive works.

The two assumingly grabbed onto Quagsire, who then just smiled so very widely before enveloping itself in a bubble before diving down into water! It was a special little bubble in which Eryn could safely inhabit the watery depths, because convenience. Regardless, the trainers and the wild Pokémon floated down the rather long yet unremarkable tower, before arriving in what lay below. A whole new city, just below their feet.

"Hm?" That was an odd pink outline that Skylar 'saw'. Might be worth looking into some of the ancient rocks further to see if there's anything about that which may be... well, surprising was the best word that Skylar could think of.

He couldn't dwell on it for long, though, as Vivia had made her way back to Skylar and the team proudly presenting the badge she had scored from Lorette. "Nice job, Vivia!" Skylar cheered, ignoring the fact that he basically had twice the challenge she had and he barely skirted by. The Gym Leaders likely used different teams for different trainers, so it was fine overall for Skylar.

"I was thinking about what we could do next, Vivia, and to be honest, I think I wanna give our teams a little rest before we move on. The next gym we could challenge is Stillwood, which we can ferry to from here, right? We can spend the day here, finish seeing some of the sights that we hadn't seen yet, then we can head to the ferry tonight and ride it over to Stillwood." Skylar explained his plan to Vivia as he stood back up, pointing what he had assumed was the lake to help show his plan. "Apparently there are some Ancient Stones here to check out, and I wanted to go and check them out even though... well..." the boy waved his hand in front of his sunglasses to show his other point.

Skylar pulled his bag over his shoulder and head, disturbing Seabreeze momentarily before the Wingull floated back down to rest on Skylar's hair once again. "So... yeah. Heading to there, if you wanted to come with. Otherwise, in the ranches outside of town make for some good training, or you could see about getting a Torchic there like Mac." Skylar smiled, picking Mac up off the grass and scratching behind the Torchic's plumage.

"Yisssshhh! Good good scritchies!!!"

Regardless on if Vivia came with Skylar or not, the boy was off once again. Eventually, the boy and his team would make it to the very set of stones that Skylar wanted to explore, though it would likely take them a bit to do such a thing.

Of course, if anything happens on Skylar's journey, he'd take note of that, but for the most part if nothing interesting happens then maybe the Stones would hold something interesting.

Dawkin Trustram

Dawkin looked around, a bit confused as he entered town. Something must have happened. Could it have anything to do with what had happened in the desert? Well there was no way he could ignore this. "Before we talk to the Professor I want to find out what this is about, I'm going to find someone to explain this." Dawkin said confidently, and proceeded to do just that. He would talk to the first person he could find and work from there until he could figure out what was going on.

On her way to the Bug Garden, something caught Claire's attention. A group of people had gathered in front of the research lab - a group of miners? A group of scientists had met them out front. Pausing a moment to look at the spectacle, the redhead almost wanted some popcorn or something to snack on - looked like things were about to get heated, and she'd have joined the fun little spectacle herself, had not something incredibly odd happened.

Resounding through the air, was the echo of what could only be a pokemon cry. The two arguing parties paused, before suddenly calming down. A brief exchange of words later, and the arguing had stopped. They had somehow reached an agreement within the span of a few seconds.

"...huh, what do you think that was?" Claire frowned. What could make people suddenly calm themselves like that?

"Ral!~" Ralia simply shrugged from her seat on Claire's shoulder.

"I dunno why I even asked." Claire sighed while Ralia chuckled. "Righto, lets get to that Bug Garden. I want a Vivillon!" stretching her arms slightly as she began walking toward the Bug Garden - only to have her attention drawn to someone who had just walked into the town not long after she had.

"Ah...!" That was one of the trainers she had started with at Kalmia's lab...what's his name? Lawkin? Harpkin?...Dawkin. Dawkin sounded right. This was a great opportunity! She had been wanting to check her own progress against one of the others, so what better time to do it than now! A grin crept across Claire's face as she stared down Dawkin, grabbing one of her pokeballs. "Wanna go say hi, girl?"

"Rrralts!~" Sharing her trainers enthusiasm, Ralia swiftly teleported from Claire's shoulder...and right on top of Dawkin's head.

The next thing Dawkin would see, was Claire sprinting towards him at full speed - the final few feet were closed by her leaping into the air, landing with a rather acrobatic twirl in front of him, taking a rather aggressive battle stance.

"OOORA!~HEY!~" She called out, the next thing Dawkin would see, was Claire sprinting towards him at full speed - the final few feet were closed by her leaping into the air, landing with a rather acrobatic twirl in front of him and taking a rather aggressive battle stance.

"Dawkin right? You got a pokemon from Kalmia too, yeah?" Ralts jumped off Dawkin's head, pirouetting her way across the ground back over to Claire. "Good timing, I was just lookin' to see how good my team stacks up against another trainer! Lets go, I need another win under my belt!" Ralia lightly pulling on Claire's pants. "...oh, uh, right, heheh. You just got here, I'll be nice and let ya heal up first."

Dawkin Trustram

Before Dawkin could get answers out of anyone he felt a sudden weight on his head. He stepped back in response to the sudden passenger and turn to see a girl he was only vaguely familiar with. A girl that, if he had to choose one word to describe her, it would be red. She arrived in front of him in a flamboyant display of motion, along with; what was appeared to be a Ralts, which was what had apparently been so rudely monopolizing his headspace just moments before.

"Yes, I'm Dawkin, and you're Claire." As dramatic as ever that one. "I'm not really interested in fighting, I'm more concerned with what's going on right now and visiting the Pokemon Center." Dawkin said dismissively. his Pokemon were injured and even if they weren't, there was still the matter of whatever had turned the town into a hornet's nest of commotion. Then there was the matter of talking to the Professor.

Furthermore, Cacena, Tyrant, and Feebas were still relatively new to his team, and he had already resolved to do some serious training. Overall, a trainer battle was rather low on his priority list. Given Claire didn't stop him he'd be heading to a Pokemon Center to heal up and see if anyone along the way knew what was going on.

All Basil’s internal questioning aside, Basil soon had his Pokédex and soon thereafter he had his Pokémon as well. A Darumaka that he named Cecil. Kalmia looked on pretty happily as he got those things sorted out for himself. After all that, there was only one thing that was left to say.

‘You’re very welcome, Basil,’ Kalmia said, looking proud enough. ‘And, now is perhaps the time I explain all that’s going on outside…’ she considered, looking outside at where now a Sentret was flinging a bucket over at the opposing Budew for some reason.

‘You’re not the only trainer that I welcomed today. There’s also the guy, Cyril, right outside,’ Kalmia said, gesturing diagonally outside the door to where that guy was currently engaged in a Pokémon battle with a blonde chick. Then, suddenly, he had two little brown-haired twins standing right underneath him.

‘O, oooh! You got a Pokémon, too!’
‘Lemme see, lemme see!’ called the two twins, bouncing by him before Kalmia could pull them back.

‘And, er, these are my assistants, Timothy and Thomas, or Tim and Tom, say hi,’ Kalmia said, looking like she’s not entirely sure about them.

‘Heeeey! When you get rich, donate it all to us for making this possible, okay!’ Tim said.
‘Oh, and if you see our brother out there, beat him for us, so he can get stronger and beat you back eventually!’ Tom added on. They were both grinning before they ran off somewhere, laughing like the little kids they are.

‘And this, of course, is…’ Kalmia said, gesturing towards the last present person not currently in a Pokémon Battle. The spectacled man in a top-hat and suit with red ribbons pressed a button on his phone before he let his hand drift around his clothing and emerge on his right with no phone despite there having been no sign of the phone actually slipping into a pocket or anything. The hand then wandered up to his hat, which he tipped a bit while nodding to Basil.

‘I am Jacques of the Elite Four. Pleased to make your acquaintance.’ Jacques said, giving Basil a piercing look along with the kind(?) smile, analyzing the boy from top to bottom.
‘So that’s how he turned out…’

‘Turns out, the same way that I received the task and permission to distribute Pokédexes from Professor Oak, Jacques here…’ Kalmia started…

‘… negotiated that same permission from Professor Sycamore,’ Jacques said. But, then he spread his hands in a “alas” gesture. ‘We didn’t know that the other was doing it, and so we ended up with two different sets of Pokédexes for the same region. However, upon meeting up we’ve determined that the more the merrier, and our operations will run concurrently. In fact, I arrived here on the first day and suggested we’d have a bit of a friendly competition, Kalmia’s trainers against mine. Not one to fail tradition, I brought Chloe here to face off against Cyril, but…’ Jacques sighed a little.

‘Oh? Have you run out of hopefuls for Basil?’ Kalmia asked, looking mildly amused.

‘Hardly. Excuse me, Professor Kalmia, I’m going to need to borrow your PC. To retrieve a new Pokémon, you understand. I had a couple to spare…’ Jacques went over to the computer in Kalmia’s room, making a couple of clicks while Kalmia looked on curiously.

Then, outside. There was a sudden noise of an engine. An engine on two wheels, a bike heading down the otherwise coze street of suburban Pureplain, the driver in a dark purple jacket and black helmet driving so fast and powerfully like knowing he would not be hitting anything.

Then, way before actually arriving, the driver spun the vehicle, the back wheel swerving with intense power as the bike neared its destination. The whole vehicle broke speed as rubber burned with a screeching noise as the bike slowly came to a perfect stop right before the building. The bike-rider that had stopped right outside the Pokémon Lab slowly turned off the engine, put down the thing the bike will be leaning on for now with a quick kick and then stood up before the lab, taking off his helmet to reveal a moderately cocky-looking brown-haired older boy.

‘I’m here, Jacques. Now what’s up?’ he asked, looking over the battle a bit first before walking by to get to the lab itself.

‘I’m happy you were able to come on such short notice, Rodger. Your dependability is remarkable,’ Jacques said with a smirk.

‘You call, I come. Besides, I was only on Route 4. No biggie,’ Rodger said with a shrug.

‘… Wha… Route 4... ?’ Kalmia asked, having to look over at a wall that didn’t actually have a map as she considered. Because while Route 4 isn’t far, it isn’t THAT close…

‘I was wondering if you’d like to have another Pokémon and battle another newcomer. Interested?’ Jacques asked, and Rodger looked over at Basil, already having identified who it must have be.

‘This guy, eh,’ Rodger said, looking over Basil, and… not immediately looking particularly impressed with what he was seeing. Basil, in the meantime, could probably more or less see the immediate tell-tale signs of a Bigfjord City resident in Rodger, and… well, there’s a reason why Bigfjord City has the Dark-type Gym; the streets are famously MUCH rougher than they are in Worldedge City where Basil grew up… it wouldn’t be unimaginable that this guy had a rough childhood too, but not for the same reasons as for Basil. … Rodger smirked.

‘Alright, I’m in. Now, what’s my Pokémon?’ Rodger asked, and Jacques wasted no time grabbing and throwing over the Pokéball that had materialized from the PC, which Rodger effortlessly caught in mid-air.

‘Of course, that’s all up to if YOU want to have a battle,’ Kalmia said, looking to Basil and 100% understanding if these two were being intimidating. ‘Jacques and Rodger have made their offer, and it’s entirely up to you if you’d like to accept or not. So? Would you like to have a battle?’

And here’s where the yes/no choices would appear in a video-game…

There was a crash as a Pokéball opened, and Rodger caught the creature that appeared on his arm. It was a half-a-meter tall baby bird, spreading its wings and staring up quizzically at Rodger, he smirked down at the little bird and its long, red top feather.

‘Well, well, would you look at you… Small and tough, and I know what you become. I like you. Welcome to the team, Ace,’ Rodger told, looking proud of the glaring bird on his arm…

Pokédex Entry #627 – Rufflet, the Eaglet Pokémon. Known to bravely or recklessly challenge any enemy, no matter how strong it is. They’re natural-born warriors pick fight indiscriminately, even with their own parents, and grow stronger as they get injured. It uses its talons to crush berries or the shells of clams to get food.

… And the Pokédex hadn’t stopped talking before Ace had pecked his own trainer. Rodger had recoiled, thrown out his arm so that Ace took flight and hovered in the middle of the room while Rodger stumbled back a bit before taking his own street-brawling fighting stance.

‘Oh, you wanna fight!? I can give you as much fight as you want…!’ Roger told before Kalmia could run in to-

‘Not with each other! And even before that, DON’T FIGHT IN HERE!’ Kalmia said, because they were still inside Kalmia’s lab here, yupp. Anyway.

What is Basil’s reaction?

Vivia looked happy and proud as Skylar cheered for her, and then listened on as Skylar thought of what to do next.

‘Well, we could get to Stillwood Village by ferry from here, but we could also cross Route 3 onto Route 4 to get to it,’ Vivia suggested, but otherwise, sure. That works out nicely enough. Then that about heading to the Ancient Rocks. ‘Alright, let’s go. I have been curious about those rocks, though I don’t think we’ll be able to unearth any mysteries, hah,’ Vivia said with a slight laugh, but otherwise she was ready to set out. ‘Torchic is cute, but I think I’ll see what comes my own way. Thanks for the suggestion, though,’ Vivia said, appreciating the suggestion, but anyways.

Now, off towards the top of Highhill Town first.

Florrie agreed, and then… then Claire showed up. Because why not.

@Rune_Alchemist

It wasn’t just Dawkin there. There was also this somewhat panicking young girl with long green hair whose eyes widened considerably by Claire and Ralia’s sudden appearance, looking to Dawkin to Claire with alarm until it became clear that the two knew each other in some capacity.

‘O-oh, you two know one another. Um, I’m Florrie, Pokémon Trainer and assistant of Professor Dunstan here in town…’ Florrie told, giving Claire a little nervous bow. Claire’s energy was making her nervous, clearly.

There was also a Ninja Boy, who…

‘Ah? Is there a battle? No battle? I can battle! What are we doing?’ Alec asks, because he’s still here. For… some reason. He’s just been following Dawkin the whole way. Regardless. Dawkin can go get his Pokémon healed, and…

‘A bunch of Ancient Pokémon disappeared from one of the warehouses! One of the thieves was seen, and it was apparently Collin, one of the assistants at the Pokémon Lab in town! Because of that, Kristy took a bunch of miners and confronted Leila and the scientists about it, and it looked like it was about to be a fight but then some form of echoing sound came from the desert. Instead, they teamed up and are now searching for clues together! Kristy and the miners are having their Ground-Pokémon look for enemies underground, Leila’s Flying-types are checking the air and Psychic types from the lab are looking for signs of Teleporting! Lovely to see them cooperating instead of being at one another’s throats all the time…’

And that was what Dawkin could get himself told. Dawkin and Claire can now decide what they feel like doing.

Connected areas:
Route 6. The Vast Plains open up to the north of Raremine. The shorter paths lead to Route 8 and 16, while west far enough leads to Lakewatch Town.
Route 7. The single rocky desert of Isson, it connects to the Desert Mines, the Old Tombs and to the Mythic Oasis.

~Claire Blackwood~

@PlatinumSkink@Eklispe

"Woah woah, hol' up shorty, that's not how that works!" Claire's expression twisted to a mild frown, placing her hands on her hips. "Two trainers meet, they have to battle! That's how it works! Come ooon, you're a pretty terrible trainer to not want to challenge yourself!" Claire's mouth twisted into a smirk as Dawkin walked off to the pokemon center, following him regardless of whether he wanted her too or not. "Well, not that I can blame you," She casually flashed Hector's badge. "You can probably tell I'm way out of your league already and are just scared to fight. I get'cha."

Thankfully for Dawkin though, one of his companions seemed to have caught her attention with their introduction. Dunstan's assistant? Now that was something she could be interested in. In fact, that might be helpful. Claire's attitude shifted from pestering Dawkin for a battle to her new victim by the name of Florrie.

"Eh? Dunstan's assistant?" As Dawkin got his pokemon healed, Claire addressed the girl slightly oblivious to the reason pf her being uncomfortable. "Wow, talk about good luck! Get rich at the game corner, won the Lotto, and now this, heh!" As Ralia made her way back up to her shoulder, Claire coughed lightly. "Sorry, got a bit excited there. I met with his assistant, Connor, in Worldege. I need to talk with the Professor pronto, cute stuff." She was concerned with the pokemon thieves and helping solve that issue, but she had a much more pressing issue immediately to deal with.

Ralia was munching on the Kuo Berry that Claire had stuffed in her bag, waving at the other girl in a friendly manner.

"...Uhm, I'd say more, but eh, It's really something I need to talk to him directly about." Her tone shifted to being more serious as she flashed a glance towards Dawkin and the Ninja boy. Not that she didn't trust them, if anything she'd trust someone who started at Kalmia's lab above anyone else, but for once she didn't want to jump the gun. "So uh, y'know, can ya make it happen or do I need to show ya something? Cuz I got something he'd be super interested in hearing about."

"Wow, neat rocks!" Skylar smiled to himself before stepping onto the tablet that laid beneath him and his team. He gently leaned over to pick it up, knowing most definitely not what it said until his hand ran over it to dust it off. The bumps underneath his fingers caused him to raise an eyebrow.

"What..." Skylar asked, placing Mac down from his other arm as he ran his hand along. Was this... hold on, he could read this. This wasn't anything more than an alphabet for him... and it meant exactly the same as a standard alphabet.

Skylar looked up at the stones and saw that there, just barely, were little blurry bumps on them. Skylar gently placed down Seabreeze before calling to another one of his buds. "Paradise, help me up so I can feel those rocks. I've got an idea..."

Without so much as a word, Paradise raised Skylar's body up in the air with her long an surprisingly strong neck, letting Skylar rub his hands on each bunch of rocks before Skylar spoke aloud, just enough for Vivia to hear.

"All five must be demonstrated for the one to nurture our bonds."

Skylar smiled and looked down at Vivia. "What was that about uncovering mysteries?" he joked, feeling the lower wall of bumps and reading them aloud.

"The path shall open before the guardian of the mystic."

Skylar patted Paradise's head to bring him down before he called out to his team. "Guys, find more rocks with bumps! There's gotta be more things here..."

After a few minutes, Skylar recited the readings off the five stones, in order from left to right.

"One, generosity, the foundation of our cooperation."

"Two, sadness, the consequence of our failures."

"Three, joy, the reward for our successes."

"Four, anger, the defense against our mistreatment."

"Five, passion, with which everything is possible."

Skylar thought for a moment, looking down at his gym badge before a peck from a Wingull brought him back into reality.

"Heh," he giggled, before returning to his team. The team that helped him do what he never thought he could do. He smiled to them, before he... well...

"You know, if someone told me a year ago that I'd be on a jouney and I'd have my first badge, I wouldn't have believed them. Like, for my entire life I would've wanted my own Pokemon journey, but my dad never let me consider it as a possibility because... well... I'm blind." Skylar bluntly said the obvious by this point. "He always had Xatu watch over me so I wouldn't get hurt because of things. I love Xatu, and no matter what he'd always keep me safe, like that one time a bunch of our Vullaby and Mandibuzz at the lab were eating my clothes and he stepped in to teach them a lesson. We were best buds."

"Still, he wouldn't help me in my case with my dad. He always kept telling me that I couldn't go on the journey. It was too dangerous and I wouldn't likely have a partner to come with me on my path. I was sad, but I still kept hope. Sure, it took a few years more than I had hoped, but look at me now!"
Skylar shouted, placing his hands on his hips with a dopey grin. "I'm on my way! With Seabreeze and you guys at my side, I've never been more confident! We had a tough battle that, honestly, I wasn't sure that we'd win, but we steeled our hearts and kept at it, and look at us now!"

Skylar pulled his badge off his bag and raised it high into the air. "We scored our first badge! We fought against Lorette when she went all out, and we brought home the badge!" Skylar clenched his badge in his hand, still going strong.

"We've had the whole group here, and with all of us working as one we'll overcome anything!" The boy looked at his team before he began to address them, one by one.

"Smiley, thank you! Without you and your moxie, we wouldn't have been able to overcome the fights against Lorette's Larvesta!" "Mur! Murkrokro-row!"

"Mac, without you that Escavalier would still be kicking our butts! You're a baby, but you're so great!" "Torchiiiiiic!"

"JoJo! You threw Lorette for a loop with the Double Teams, and you really showed your confidence! I'm glad you're here with us!" "Rrallaaral!"

"Paradise, you... wow! That Accelgor didn't know what hit him with you leading the fray! You took hits and reminded everyone you're not always the gentle giant we know you as!" "Trooop."

"Celebrity, you're unmatched on this team with your singing. That Beedrill threw us for a loop, but with you by our side we returned that loop and made it think twice about attacking you! Thank you!" "Pu-hu-hu-huff~!"

"And Seabreeze..." Skylar looked up at his starter. "Well, without you, none of this could've been possible. You showed the Beedrill and Butterfree what-for, and you've been keeping me from getting hurt this whole ride! Thank you."

"Wingull-gull!" Seabreeze smiled before saluting with his wing.

Skylar turned back to the center stone, and continued. "Our journey's only begun, and we've come this far. Whatever's back there, no, whatever's created these stones, I want you to bear witness to something right now!"

The boy swung his arm around, a thumb pointing right at him as he confidently grinned to the statues. "In the name of Ho-oh, Lugia, Rayquaza, all of the guardians of the sky, I, Skylar Brighton, will become the best bird trainer in all of Isson, then I will become the strongest trainer in all of Isson! Believe it!"

"Wingull!"
"Jigglypuff!"
"Tropius!"
"Ralts!"
"Torchic!"
"Murkrow!"

Skylar was left breathing heavily. Whether that worked or it didn't, it wouldn't matter.

Huh, so that's what was going on. It looked like Cyril was having an odd experience battling Chloe if his Budew was going to get dunked on with a bucket.

Then there were the little monsters that were the twins, circling around him like Vullabys as he got back up on his feet. Somehow he had rolled Cecile off him, much to her displeasure and certainly was not liking how close the twins were getting to Basil. The Darumaka almost seemed to be puffing up as if it was trying to make itself bigger and intimidating, but luckily, Kalmia was able to drag them away before it could become anything more. Basil arched his brow in puzzlement. Assistants? That's a job a bit too big for those two. For a hot second he thought they were the Professor's kids, but it was probably a mistake. Hyper little guys they were; he couldn't help, but feel somewhat envious of them for having such a carefree life.

But those feelings were pushed aside as his line of sight fell upon a certain Elite Four member that walked into the lab when he didn't notice. Basil stiffened straight and felt his spine tingle as Jacques analyzed him, unable to get a read on the man despite his smile. "B-Basil Rivens, an honor to meet you." He somehow choked that greeting out and was too nervous to hear the Elite trainer's comment.

It was not until the situation was explained to him that he began to calm down slightly. So it was just a failure of communication between the two of them. That would explain why someone like Jacques would actually care about coming down to see the new hopefuls since he had a stake in this, but it looked like Basil was the one that slipped through the cracks, or would have if he did not arrive on the same day as that Cyril guy did. It was pretty unlikely that Jacques would have someone lined up for him to battle to keep up tradition...Wait a minute, what did he mean by hardly?

Basil just watched on as the elite went to Kalmia's computer room, Cecil tugging at his pants to get his attention and then they both nearly leaped out of their skin; a roaring engine broke the silence in the room and it grew closer and closer. Looking out the window revealed an older boy that oozed confidence and had an aura that screamed bad to the bone and yet, he was on a first name basis with an Elite Four member. Hold on, another Pokemon? Was this guy one of the trainers that Jacques had selected before?

Something stirred in him when Rodger shot him that unimpressed look. Was he really that pathetic? Was he really that spineless that he could be looked over with not even a second glance? Even Kalmia did not expect him to even want to fight them because yeah, they were intimidating. One of them was the Elite Four and the other was an already experienced trainer that looked like the definition of a Bigfjord City resident; a punk that had a rough life on the streets, but all the stronger for it. And Basil? He was a timid, bloody noble, a useless one at that, that no one expected anything from.

His fists balled up and this strange sensation swelled in his chest, as if he was going to breathe fire any moment. "Are you done messing around? Your fight is with us." Basil was shaking, but there was no doubt that there was a budding, yet fierce rebellion in his eyes that just needed time before it would bloom.

So what if he was scared? So what if Rodger had more experience? So what if no one had expectations for him? He'll tear down those notions and show them the person that he will become.

"Cecil, lend me your strength."

The Darumaka nodded and stood by his side, ready to throw down."Dar!"

Dawkin Trustram

Did she just call him 'shorty'? Dawkin wasn't sure if he disliked this girl but he was certain of it now. 'Terrible trainer'. 'Out of your league'. Whether she knew it or not, she was really pressing his buttons. However, Dawkin's little brothers had long ago rendered him fairly resistant, even to particularly nettling words like hers. That gym badge only reinforced his decision that he wanted to train first. "Yeah sure, that doesn't really hold up in towns lass." Dawkin said, maintaining a cool disinterest and continuing on to the Pokemon Center.

After Dawkin got his Pokemon healed, Dawkin remembered Ninja Boy was still hanging around for some reason. "Kid you can battle this girl if you want, just make eye contact and she's obligated to." He said, using his thumb to indicate Claire. Then, to Florrie, "It seems the situation isn't pressing so its best we go to the Professor. I don't care much if we bring her along." It seemed she had something important to say too? Probably not too important all things considered.

Cyril Desrosiers

Chloe recoiled with slight fright at Cyril’s sudden intrusion into the whispering conversation. Jacques, meanwhile, chuckled a little.

‘Fufu. Was that a secret? In that case, I fervently apologize, I did not realize,’ the Elite Four said, bowing a bit to Cyril. Chloe, meanwhile, looked a tad more intimidated for a moment as Cyril started inspecting the Sentret on her shoulder, but then regained a smile and got a decently admiring smile on her lips.

‘Wow. Okay. I’ll ask you to be nice to me, then!’ Chloe said, hopeful and happy.

Being inspected, Sentret held onto Chloe’s hair as she looked back at Cyril with an unsure look for the moment, but since Chloe didn’t seem to mind then neither did Sentret. She didn’t let Cyril get behind her, though, Sentret turned to face him whichever way he walked.

Then Cyril went to the door and said his piece about of course Sentret is cute, because Pokémon reflect their trainers…

‘Tihi. They do, don’t they?’ Chloe said, smiling rather proudly. because Chloe knows she’s cute and not afraid to admit it.

Sentret tilted her head and looked a bit puzzled.

‘Absolutely! Let’s go!’ Chloe said, skipping in her step with Sentret holding onto her hair as she leapt after Cyril outside and took her place on one side of the street. ‘Alright! You ready, Sentret?’

‘Sent!’ Sentret told, as she skipped off Chloe’s shoulder to land on the ground beneath in the lab’s front yard.

‘Oh, oh! A battle!’ one of the twins told.
‘Show us something cool!’ the other said, as the two got ready to watch. As did Jacques and Kalmia, because new trainers fighting is something endearing to watch. Albeit one isn’t exactly entirely new, but still.

"Fwee?" The little Budew looked up Cyril, tipping his little bud on his side as the lady skipped outside, with Cyril following suit, practically jumping out the front door, causing the little Pokémon to chirp and wriggle in excitement as it transpired. What followed was the Professor's two children, to which he smirked at them toothily, before walking to one side of the yard.

"So Aster, you ready for your first battle," he asked softly to him, the little plant looking up, almost puzzled at the statement, before looking to the opposite side of the field where the Sentret stood. The trainer felt the little guy shiver, the bud trembling a little as he looked at the other Pokémon, prompting a sigh and a gentle smile.

"Hnng, I know, I already accepted, but if you don't want to, then-" he stopped, the buds trembling turned into wriggling as it squirmed to get out of his grip before popping out with a light kick, standing on his arms and puffing its little body out, "Fwee!"

With that cry it hopped down, its little legs wiggling as it landed on the battlefield to be. With a few hops away, it pivoted to look at Cyril and shook the top of its bud excitedly. Cyril could only smile broadly before looking over to his opponent and her partner. With a flick of his wrist, his stylish scarf flew around his neck, flowing a bit due to a slight breeze before stopping; Aster followed suit, hopping around, staring down the Sentret as he planted his tiny legs into the ground.

"Heh, looks like he does." With an impish grin, he locked eyes with Chloe, like any good trainer raring for a battle would. "In any case, just because you're like green tea, it doesn't mean I'll go easy on you," he crossed his arms, dramatically posing before opening his eyes, his arms sprouting upward to the sides, palms wide open.

"Let's do this Aster!"

‘Sentret!’ Chloe jumped over and scooped up the small fellow into her arms. After a bit of inspecting she gently stroked the Pokémon with a little smile. ‘Don’t worry about it. We were a little outmatched this time, but we’ll grow much, much stronger together! We’ll get a taste of victory, too! Okay, Sentret?’ Chloe told her fainted Pokémon before eventually returning Sentret to her Pokéball and then turning to Cyril.

‘Thank you for battling me! I’ll need to grow much stronger before the next time I challenge you!’ she started, giving a happy smile to start with.

"Fwee?" The Budew was panting lightly, its body heaving up and down as the Sentret crumpled into a heap, its cries being the last thing he heard. It tilted its little bud before recoiling as the girl burst towards him, shivering for a second before flinching again as Cyril scooped him up from behind and snuggled him tightly. Aster was dazed for a moment, before realizing moments later that they had won. The little Pokémon nuzzled against his trainers chest, though the lament of Chloe wasn't lost to their ears.

Cyril looked over the lady as she consoled the fainted Pokémon, psyching herself and her partner up before returning her to her Pokéball. For the most part, he remained, respectfully, silent, giving her time to recuperate while praising his partner in his own way.

When she rose back up to address him, Cyril merely smiled warmly at her, looking down to his own partner, then Chloe's Pokéball, then back to her. "Heh, I'm looking forward to our next battle then," he chuckled lightly as his Pokémon squirmed happily in his arms before looking over to Chloe.

"Like Jacques, I expect great things from you," he pivoted around and walked towards the bucket before putting a foot in and twirling it around a bit before launching it behind him, sending it tumbling back into the yard. Turning back to face the girl, he jabbed a thumb towards the lab, "In any case, Jacques said you were out of money, right? I think I can help a bit with that, but first, how about we get your partner healed up first."

With that said and done he strode towards the door and swung it open (hopefully not hitting anyone), and gestured for her to come on in.

Even lost in her thoughts as she was, Amelia would be hard pressed to miss the shaking that accompanied Snorlax's footsteps, turning towards the source. Recognizing the pokemon and it's trainer right away, Amelia gave Dorian a slight bow before quickly straightening up and smiling at him.
"It's a pleasure to see you again Master Dorian. How have you been?" She said before turning to look at the gym again. She was silent for a few moments, thinking things over for a bit before eventually responding. "I'm... confused on what I should do. Some events happened and I... was powerless to help. Everything that happened was so beyond my control and I just... was unable to do anything. And now that it's over, I don't know what I want to do. I want to be on a journey to simply be free and enjoy myself. Find out what I enjoy without people telling me what to do or where to go. But I feel like now I need to get stronger in order to be able to do the things I want. I've never cared for strength though. I just want to wonder, be free, and make friends. I know I can do both, but I feel like doing one means sacrificing the other in some regards. And I feel like getting stronger might mean that I'm not being... me.

So, I'm just trying to figure out what to do. What do I want to do?

So, with Dawkin being boring, Claire turned to Florrie, who winced a bit at suddenly being turned to. Claire mentioned Connor, and…

‘Eh, you met with…’ Florrie first started to ask as she positively shrunk in metaphorical size when Claire waved her hands about, looking a bit panicked. And then Claire went and made a kind of a major request. The green-haired girl fiddled with her fingers, eyes decently unable to look straight at Claire, but… ‘W-well, um, if you’re another of Kalmia’s trainers alongside Dawkin then I suppose I could introduce you…’ she said in a quiet and unsure tone as she felt mildly panicked…

Meanwhile, Dawkin edged Ninja Boy Alec on at Claire. The kid turned, the gears in his head spinning for a bit until the light-bulb finally lit up.

‘Hey, fancy girl! I’ll fight you! I’ll totally battle you!’ Alec shouted eagerly, pointing forwards at Claire and startling Florrie, a pink ball of a Koffing floating up from basically nowhere by Alec as he was already in full force wanting to battle…! … Now, it’s completely understandable if Claire’s busy being introduced to leading legendary researchers instead, but just in case she actually accepts.

‘I-I need to go tell the Professor something, anyway, so… you could… come along…?’ Florrie asked, after that.

Now, then.

‘Huh? What are you…’ Vivia asked as Skylar had his Pokémon help him up at the central rock and felt all over the ancient rocks… ‘Er, are you sure you should be touching them? Something about accrued damage to ancient monuments by enough people touching the-’ and what Vivia was saying was suddenly rendered moot when Skylar read the ancient passage out loud. Vivia looked at him with wide eyes and just stood there, staggered, watching as Skylar went on a journey to read the contents off all these rocks out loud. Because… woah.

… and then… Skylar held that speech. Because of course he did. Maybe a little early in his journey to hold a speech like that, but nevertheless, here he was one town over, having won a Gym Badge and being as proud as a Pokémon Trainer might possibly be. And… his Pokémon all called out… and he was left breathing heavily in front of the rocks with Vivia looking on wide-eyed from the side…

And… silence.

… AND IN CASE HE IGNORES ALL OF THAT Skylar can go off and do whatever he pleases! He’s currently in Highhill Town!

There was a sudden moment of silence when Basil made his proclamation, even the overly aggressive Ace stopped for a moment. Kalmia looked at him with slight positive surprise, while Jacques gave a pleased little smirk, there was fight in him after all.

‘… Oh?’ Rodger gave Basil another look, this one more amused than the previous, not having expected Basil to speak with such vigour but wholeheartedly accepting it. ‘You hear that, Ace? Someone wants to fight,’ Rodger said, as he pointed over at Basil and Cecil. Ace, who’d proven himself a violent little bird, spun around and prepared himself, staring with intensity at Cecil, who was his chosen opponent. Rodger raised his chin a bit as he looked Basil over again. ‘I like the look in your eyes. Come with me outside and show me what it’s worth!’ Rodger said before picking up Ace, almost getting his hand pecked, and then started walking to go out for a better battlefield.

‘Yay, more fighting!’
‘Punch, kick, scratch, tackle!’ Tim and Tom were joyously calling out from the side…

‘Alright, then. Good luck, Basil, Cecil,’ Kalmia wished them, and then it was time to go outside… And that’s when Cyril came in.

@Savo

A little earlier

Chloe giggled a little as Cyril told her that he’d be expecting great things of her, smiling a little proudly before Cyril moved on to the next point.

‘Oh, yeah, I got broke. Staying fashionable isn’t cheap, I’ll have you know!’ Chloe told, matter-of-factly, like if staying fashionable was more important than ensuring you have money to eat or something Ignoring the fact I’m never going to make you pay for your regular meals. ‘Oh, you have a make-money-quick scheme? I’m interested! What do you got!?’ Chloe asked excitedly as she skipped after him.

And then they all met at the door. Feel free to have any interactions you please. But still, here’s the continued that will happen at some point.

‘Ah, I’m sorry, sir! I lost!’ Chloe called to Jacques, sounding a little sorry about it but still energetic. Jacques merely chuckled.

‘Do not worry about it, young hopeful. It is from now on that you will have your chance to grow. Good luck out there. You now have all you need to become a formidable Pokémon Trainer,’ Jacques told Chloe, who smiled brightly and looked all warm with happy emotions as she replied.

‘Thank you, sir! I’ll do my best!’

Meanwhile, Kalmia turned to Cyril, smiling a bit her too.

‘Same to you. You’re all set to go out there, now. If you ever have any questions, feel free to call me over the Pokédex. All the other trainers I’ve sent out are in there, too, in case you want to contact them. Now, get out there, and do your thing,’ Kalmia wished Cyril, because really, there wasn’t that much she could tell an already experienced Pokémon Trainer.

Now, here’s where Kalmia would give Cyril five Pokéballs, but seeing how they’re somehow already in your inventory, guess we’ll skip that part.

Besides that! Unconcerned with those greetings, Rodger stepped out into the front yard of the lab, turning around and throwing out Ace, the Rufflet landing prepared to battle before him, glaring at Basil and Cecil. Rodger took a look in his Pokédex (which can show you the moves your Pokémon knows) and chuckled a bit.

‘I’m going to be really honest here. The only applicable moves Ace knows right now are Peck and Fury Attack, and I’m going to have him do what he seems to do best. Fury Attack. I look forward to what you’ll do,’ Rodger says as he proclaims his strategy ahead of time.

‘Alright, let’s do this!’ Rodger says, as he points forward at his opponent.

Pokémon Trainer Rodger would like to battle!

‘Ace, Fury Attack!’ Rodger calls, and Ace is already in the air, waving his tiny wings frantically to get forward and deliver his numerous chops of the beak or feet or wings or whatever constitutes a Fury Attack! This is going to be one highly offensive bird!

What will Basil and Cecil do?

And what will Cyril do now? Currently in Pureplain City.

‘I’ve been well, I’ve been well. A healthy training regimen ensures I will be able to continue this for an additional number of decades,’ Dorian says as he places the bike by the side of the Gym, and somewhere in the vast distance Hector protests loudly about how the old man should retire already which Dorian pays no heed… but that aside.

Dorian listened calmly as Amelia explained her troubles. He sat down gently to relax on the outside of his Gym, looking so exceedingly calm as he waited for her to finish. As she finally did come to her finish… the old man put his hands together and looked at her calmly.

‘Unfortunate, that you were pulled into this incident. I was told about it by Jacques, for he also sought my council as of how to handle the incident as well as his own companion. Quite unfortunate,’ he told, and then took a pause, assumingly to gather his thoughts.

‘To be free… What to be free means depends on the individual’s point of view. Realistically, there is always something that chains us down. Be this by responsibilities, wealth, or strength. A lack of any of these closes some doors, opens others, but in no way will all the doors ever stand open. Some would be satisfied simply being allowed to travel as they desire, others do not feel free unless they restrain the freedom of others. That is the unfortunate reality of this world. As a Pokémon Trainer on her journey, you are freer than most. You do not have to worry about sustaining your daily life yet, you’re free to go wherever you like. This hasn’t always been the case, has it, young Amelia?’ Dorian told, making an educated guess. He readjusted how he sat a bit, and looked at her once more.

‘“I believe that one should not be restricted by their limitations but strive to try and overcome them”. Those were your own words, last time you came to see me. It sounded very much like a girl intending to become stronger. Still, it would be hypocritical of me to say nothing can change, with what I replied. Strength is not a goal, but a means to an end. If the end is no longer worth it, then strength is unnecessary. If you feel you do not wish for strength, then by all means, let it go. I do not have an absolute answer for you, for the answer is not mine to give,’ Dorian said, and started reaching into a pocket.

‘Although, something I can say is… when I find myself facing a troubling decision…’

A crash could be heard from his pocket, and with a beam of light a form took shape next to him.

‘… is that I find it most therapeutic to consult my Pokémon. Sometimes they even give me my answer. Isn’t that right, Stoutland?’

‘Stout!’

And with that, the happy and positively giant dog pressed his face against the side of his trainer with a wagging little tail behind the bearded dog.

Pokédex Entry #508 – Stoutland, the Big-Hearted Pokémon. A very wise Pokémon, it rescues people stranded at sea or in freezing blizzards. It is unaffected by cold, and being wrapped in its fur can allow a person to survive a night even in the wintry mountains. An intelligent and good-natured Pokémon, it’s often a companion of rescue teams.

‘The decision isn’t yours alone, after all. Your decision is going to impact your Pokémon as well. What do they want?’ Dorian asked, as he so gently patted the big dog that was so happily nuzzling the seated elder.

What’s Amelia’s reaction?

Skylar's eyes widened at the voice in his head, even moreso as the sudden rising of the rocks caused him to stagger back and flop onto the ground. Lifting himself up, he was amazed to see that a full cave had opened from underneath him. Must be the power of whatever force just talked to him. One by one, Skylar and his team stepped through to the cave down below, but at the restriction of Vivia, Skylar awkwardly turned around to face her. "Oh... heh, must be for only me and the team. I'll fill you in when I come back out."

The boy and his Pokemon stepped through the entrance and into the room proper, amazed at how well-lit the blurriness was considering this was a cave... then there was a soft pat on his shoulder. It wasn't enough to cause Skylar to instinctively look, mind, but he did acknowledge that it was there. At least, he offered to pat the new arrival on his shoulder. Whether it accepted or not was up to it.

Then, the visions came. A girl, decorated with long blue hair and tons of tech all around her, sat suspended in a tank full of... Skylar could only assume water. Maybe it was something more, but he couldn't tell from just looking. There were scientists all around the room with her, studying sequences of code and type that Skylar couldn't even begin to process. This wasn't a scene that Skylar wanted to watch, and surely the new arrival on his shoulder could feel the emptiness in his gut. This was... sad. Horrible.

The feeling under Skylar's fingers asked him a question, though Skylar didn't need to say it out loud. He turned his head to the Pokemon on his shoulder, looking at it with his glossy gray eyes. "I-I can try, but what's happening to her?"

Meanwhile, outside of the vision that Skylar's receiving...

"What's uppy with Skywar?" Mac asked the rest of the Pokemon in the room. "And who's this stwanger?"

"It better not be trying to pry for his affection. There aren't enough headpats for me now, with everyone else around!" Celebrity put her hands on her hips(?). Unsurprisingly, Smiley had groaned at this, but otherwise the Murkrow was fairly silent.

"I don't know what's going on, guys, but this Pokemon isn't trying to hurt Skylar. At least, I'm fairly sure not directly... JoJo, do you feel anything?"

"... Sadness." Jonathan bleakly answered the Wingull still perched atop Skylar's head. "It's not just Skylar, though. It's the same with that Pokemon, if only more potent in it."

"... could it be a vision of some sort?"

"It's very likely, at least, if you ask me it is."

"Well, why don't we just break 'im outta it? A good Peck to the forehead oughtta..." Smiley's suggestion quickly faded off, Paradise glaring at the Murkrow with anger once again. "Heh, uh, that was a joke, y'know? Somethin's definitely gotta be happening up in Skylar's dome, though."

"Absolutely." Jonathan chimed in one more time.

"Is Skywar gonna be okie?" Mac asked everyone again, just to be sure.

"I'm sure he'll be fine, Mac. All we can do for right now is wait, though. At least for this Pokemon to finish showing Skylar what's going on."

"Sorry little dude," Claire said to the ninja boy. "Kiiiinda hypocritical but I got something super important to ask Dunstan. We can fight later, though! I just gotta get the bonus stage started." Claire said with a grin before turning to Florrie. "Lead the way, Florrie." The redhead continued, still wearing a grin as she followed Florrie into Dunstan's lab. Ralia hung off her shoulder, having finally finished the Kuo Berry with a satisfied yawn. Claire herself, was ogling all the fancy tech in the lab - especially having taken note of the 'fossil resurrection'. When she finally laid eyes on Dunstan, she was pretty sure he was exactly what she had expected.

"...wow talk about the stereotypical stuffy professor. You look like you could get out more." Claire grinned, earning a small whack from Ralia. "Right right, sorry. Hi, I'm Claire. Yes, I'm one of Kalmia's trainers and do I have something that might interest you." Claire fished out her pokedex, flipping to Uxie's entry before glancing back to Dunstan. "I heard you're the authority on some Legendary pokemon...and well..." Holding back the pokedex, she showed the entry to Dunstan.

Ralia was lazily laying on top of Claire's head now, intently gauging Dunstant's emotional reaction.

"Don't ask where I met them though. That stuff about mind-wiping is true."
