Lorelai De Windt

A conspiracy. Not just a random act of despicable violence, but a full blown conspiracy was weaving itself amidst the ancient power structures of Kyoto and their class had unknowingly stepped in it. "No wonder our teacher wanted us to stay away, but..."

Her blood boiled just thinking that some deviant hanyou would shatter their peace for the sake of needless upheaval. Turning a determined eye to the tengu beside her, whose chatty nature was worming its way into Lorelai's good graces. "My legs? Ah, there nothing special, really. I just practise a lot of vaulting with my spears. Anyone could it with enough time, probably quicker then me if they tried for it."

Waving off the compliment with a flattered smile tugging at her stern lips she shifted closer. "Your, umm, your king doesn't want anything bad to happen, right? Maybe we can work together on this and provide some extra security. No trigger happy exorcist is gonna slap a talisman on you if they see you with a student. Probably mistake you for part of our field trip or a familiar."

Did this person do this to every individual that snuck into a public building? Or was this just the 'racism' that Otis had read about in countries as homogeneous as Japan? Or did Motsuhime freak out after he had sent that picture of a gun over, and now everyone's freaking out about a foreigner with a firearm somewhere in Kyoto? Otis let out a sigh, then twisted his head around to look at who was behind him.

"Arillo Tan Otis," he said flatly. His amber eyes explored the features of this individual behind him, gathering up all the identifying details he could. Maybe this was just some sort of high-level mugging. "A student of Silver Gate Academy. Here to investigate some theories, following the vanishing of half my class. Last seen at this convention. Figured it was because they were spirited away. So I figured that there was a space here that served as a boundary to the spirit realm. Why, you ask, would I do this instead of ask my chaperones? One, because I doubt the veracity of whatever they claim. Two, because the application of knowledge is more helpful than the acquisition of it."

He was feeling cold right now. Cold and gold, every sense sharpened for impeding combat.

"Now, who are you? Why are you here? Is this seriously your job? What are you guarding? I suppose this isn't just a convention center? You Yatagarasu, by any chance? Did you dispose of the janitors here too?"

Koyuki

Eiseikato - Town

"Hm, it sounds like a complex matter." Koyuki was still new to the whole inn business and having to work in general, so the younger (?) one could not fully understand the difficulty of the situation with suppliers and such. But the mention of practicing her illusion by creating images of food (instead of her usual transformation mischief) brightened her blue eyes in excitement! Gaining new knowledge through hands on experience always drove her motivation, even if the consequences usually got her into trouble. "If it does come to it, I would be more than glad to try my hands at it!", she said with a toothy grin.

Upon arriving back to the inn, after the errands at town, Koyuki was handed a piece of envelope from one of the coworkers. It was apparently addressed to her from back in the human world. The silverette tilted her head at wondering who it could be, she tore the top part of the envelope to pick up the letter within. As she unfolded the letter, the fox spirit was astounded by the detailed drawings of what seemed to be a fox mask. The words below the drawing read: "Where can you buy this, specifically? -Otis" She blinked at the letter for a moment. Was Otis aware of the fact that she was currently not in Kyoto with them? It is entirely possible that the teachers have connections to the one in charge of the training she's going through, and had told the rest of the class.

After taking a quick lunch, Koyuki decided to head back out to the town for her break in search of the fox mask that Otis drew. But recalling her earlier trip, she could've sworn there were fox masks of similar kind being sold in number by the stalls she passed through. While she was out in town, the fox maiden figured she might as well look for an artist to commission a painting of the town along with the search.

Barely making it back before her lunch break was over, the student huffed and wiped the sweat off her forehead from the run to the inn. Just as she initially thought, the mask was identical to most of the fox masks sold at the stalls in town.

What did Otis need such information for? Did he perhaps want one for souvenir? Those train of thoughts were what led her to buy one to bring home for the classmate! Before heading back to her inn duties, Koyuki scribbled a quick reply: "To Otis, There were tons of stalls that were selling that identical mask over here. Do not worry, I got one for you to bring back home. From Koyuki" The kitsune headed to the reception of the inn and asked for the said letter to be sent back to the human world, to either of her instructors for the trip, Kuuto or Utsumi. With that, she went back to work.

Ultana Whelen - Streets Of Kyoto

Out of one hell and into another! Ultana raged as she found herself in another dilemma. Mental battle in the library and now a war has broken out for her stomach! For Ultana, it was truly a battle of life or death. Wellllllll.......maybe not that serious but it was still a difficult position she found herself in. Back in Seidoujima it was a clear cut call, with ramen being her number one food of choice but here in Kyoto, she came across all sorts of food that she has never come across before, a way bigger selection. Her mouth was practically gushing from all the delicious looking and smelling food.

But since that first bowl of ramen, she knew the path she was bound to walk! It was the path of the ramen arts! She asked around for advice on where to go to for her version of fine dining and it seemed that in this country, the best shops for ramen were smaller stones on 'less-traveled' roads. At first she wondered why, but she began to realize why. It was kind of like back home, small time 'local' places tend to have a homey, unique kind of taste with proper ingredients, as to the bigger places tend to muck up the flavor by serving something generic with processed ingredients that had a cheap kind of taste. And the fact you wouldn't find ramen in a fancy, fine dining kind of place.

Kind of like dive bars, the dirtier and smaller it is, the better the food. It's usually how it goes, so why not with ramen? Decision made, she was off to find herself the best ramen in Kyoto!

Ultana, with her spirit burning red hot, raced down the street in pursuit of ramen, not paying any attention to the commotion her passion for ramen has started. Well, it could be her running full-bore into a crowd of people, lost in her own little world and possibly sending a few people flying.....but let's ignore that part!

The blonde gave the tengu a deadpan look, conveying exactly how much weight she put in the idea a bird who had just stolen her food would now put in following the rules with any stringency. "Well, scouting is all about getting information for others to act on, right? You can't have clearer information then getting right in the thick of it with me! We'll take the initiative and you're bosses can be super impressed with how much of a hard worker you are getting where no other tengu dared to go!"

Disbelief had given way to the fires of passion that danced like a madman's candle before her eyes, an arm snaking out to grasp Youkai's shoulder. "Oh, you've never heard of Silver Gate Academy? You'd like it! I think we even have another youkai in our class, though he's real handsy. Can you believe a guy would just come over and braid my hair without saying a single word or asking permission?"

"But yeah, it's a great place, and they let me work in the fields tilling it whenever I want. Primary school never let me work there outside club hours and they had so little space to actually work with, but now I've got work for the whole semester!" The blonde with peculiar ideas of enjoying her free time beamed, then roused herself from her memory to poke the tengu in a conspiratorial fashion. "I bet we could get you in if you help me out on this. Come on, you can basically help save a princess and get bragging rights for years!"

Eisekato. More names. Otis remembered that. A powerful individual. A monarch then, isolationist in nature. Curious that they would pluck certain races from Arcanis into their realm as well though. Some but not others. Was immortality a factor? Did they do a test with one of those anti-demon talismans? Contradictory to wish to live in modern society while living apart from it. There were certainly some in even 'human' society that wished for that though. Fine. He would accept the illogic of such desires then. Still strange that this was all just something popped up upon the class upon arrival. Who pulled the strings? Who made the decision? How much say did the teachers have in this? What about the higher-up administration within Silver Gate? More questions buzzed in his skull, but the strigidae didn't release any of them. Had to make it count, after all.

As he allowed himself to be let out of the center, Otis arranged his thoughts and asked one final question, "I am, broadly speaking, a Beastkin hailing from the Fabula Silva. One of my classmates is a Phoenix, hailing from Arcanis as well. I am not human and am non-yokai. He is not human and is non-yokai. Who shall I speak to if I seek that same 'exception'?"

Well, the Motsuhime card he could play sounded like the obvious answer, but other options were always welcome.

Koyuki

Eiseikato - Inn, Front of Kuzunoha's Room

"No, no, no, this will not do. This one tastes like mar-sh-ma-llow." After a numerous amount of trial and error, Koyuki was surrounded by a pile of failed attempts of dango. The hallway in front of Lady Kuzunoha's room littered with dango of all sizes, shape, and color, some not even identifiable as one in terms of appearance. The last few failed attempts in her hands looked perfectly like one, but the flavor were of different desserts she had eaten.

Frustrated by the failures so far, the kitsune snapped her fingers with an annoyed expression, POOF the previous illusions disappeared within a second. Slapping her cheeks in an attempt to refresh her concentration at the assignment, she calmed her thoughts into only thinking about dango. Soft and chewy texture, cute and round appearance, sweet scent from the black sugar syrup. Only think about dango. Breathe for dango. Become one with dango.

POOF. Koyuki gulped at the moment of truth. It certainly looked and smelled like one at least. She bit onto the first ball and chewed. Moment of silence. "YEAH! I did it! I did it, Lady Kuzunoha!" In the moment of happiness from the success, the fox girl made tons appear from thin air, piling a bunch on the floor once more.

The prospect of not immediately jumping into action put a pout on Lorelai's face, far too caught up in her own spirited words to be mollified by something like the constraints of other's schedules. At least it would give her time for her spear to be ready and to have some familiarity with its weight. Given they would be dealing with youkai terrorists, it's....unique properties, seemed well suited for the job. Till then, though...

"Tell you what, if I can get that leg technique of yours down, I'll cover the cost of wherever you want to eat. If I can't, we split the bills like normal folks." Focusing on her great loves, training and feasting, Lorelai hopped to her feet with a fire in her eyes, determined to make the most of her newfound friendship!

Undisclosed Location

"Lady Seirin, your dinner...", the dimly lit traditionally styled room had barely anyone within it, like a cage the walls formed closely around the two girls who sat here. This was a hidden room within one of Kyoto's castles, a lesser known location normally used for tea ceremonies, but over time had seen no use, and became a safe house for various important members of the Imperial family. On a tray between the kneeling girl and the girl seated with her back turned, was a meal of fish, rice, miso soup, seaweed, pickled vegetables, and tempura.

The girl who was seated, Seirin, was inspecting her arm... An earlier scuffle had injured it, and it appeared she was reflecting on those events. It was gone, whatever injury she had sustained was wiped clean, regenerated completely. 'Almost as if nothing happened', she mouthed quietly. There was a certain sadness to it, which was strange for a wound, but her mind kept wandering to the short time she spent with those strange people. Proof of that event, she began to think... And then she remembered, from her sleeve she produced a ribbon. Yes, it was from that girl Lorelai was it? Should she return this at some point? Well, as it is, she could not wear it, for she was required to be in traditional garb.

"Fuuko... I'm sorry, I'm unable to concentrate. It may be a bit until I decide to eat", the young kneeling lady bowed her head in acknowledgement. There was a silence for awhile before she began to turn, taking up the chopsticks and began to eat meagerly, timidly. Her eating stopped as there was a noise from outside.

"I will investigate. Stay right here", the kneeling girl Fuuko immediately departed to check on the noise. It was of concern. Only other members of the Yatagarasu or Imperial family could know where this was. It was of hope that it would simply be Yatagarasu ninja informing them, but the noise was not necessary.

So simple it would be if it was just an informant.

Kyoto Outskirts -- Previous Night

The masked girl leant against a large tree, hidden from view of normal approaching people. Between her mask and red and white garb, she would stand out among the greenery of Kyoto's forests, even at night, and so keeping herself concealed with the surrounding was better. Her stance though it appeared relaxed, was alert, every muscle in her body was ready for the slightest wrong approach, and such and approach did come. With a flash of steel she drew her blade only to meet the glowing finger of a young man, hair slicked back and red eyes. He almost appeared out of nowhere, only denoted by a soft breeze as he made himself known.

"Such sharp senses, truly you have been working hard haven't you? Stumbling over yourself to prove your worth to us", as she identified the man, she put her blade away as he lowered his arm.

"Shinzou... Have you come here to laugh at my failure? I doubt you're here to dispose of me. I'd be dead already if you were",

"Smarter than you seem, so it seems, indeed no. Our leader has decided to bestow you a new task", he flicked his fingers as he pulled out from underneath his yukata from his breast, a black-ish stone, it appeared to glow, yet projected no light, like the shadow of a sun.

"Take this, find the girl, and plunge it into her chest", he held her hand, before placing it in her palm. She looked at it silently... The pressure of being trusted with this weighed greatly upon her. She had worked with them long enough to know they would not lightly trust her with this.

"And... This will let me see... Him, again...?", Shinso tilted his head a bit, then rubbed his chin... Yes he was told about this wasn't he? Her reason.

"Hmhm, yes indeed. Like you had been told before, the fire of Amaterasu is one of life, and Tamamo no Mae who once possessed her light, has the power to grant that. The reward for your service will be to see your loved one once more", interesting he thought to himself, but also... How mean, he thought to himself. He had no doubt Tamamo could perhaps achieve such a feat, if the legends were believed among the yokai, who talk of her great power... But would a fragment and a vessel be enough? This may be interesting.

"Alright... I'll do it. I... May have some idea where she is...", she clutched the stone in her hand tightly, with two hands, almost praying.

"Hm, how diligent. In that case, we shall entrust you with that".

There were two things that Otis disliked: bullshit and defeat. Right now, this Kyoto trip, educational as it was, seemed to be featuring plenty of both. And he would not let this stand.

After returning to the hotel and having committed everyone’s faces to memory, from the older Yatagarasu member to ‘Shinzou, high ranking member of the yokai group Sennen-no-Matsuri’ (curious, that an assassin group would be named after a festival meant to celebrate scholarship), Otis promptly wolfed down his food and went up into his room. His empty room. No Tsurara, no Koyuki. Three separate futons, but only one that’s in use. Eiseikato. He’ll bother the teachers about it in the morning. Maybe prod them with questions until they get him the exemption he wanted. Call it scientific curiosity, but it’s mostly just stubbornness at this point.

With a thump, he sat down cross-legged in front of a table and swung his window open to let in the night air and the moonlight. It was warm and humid still, a summer heat made pleasant by a cool breeze. Good conditions. The Strigidae turned his head 180 degrees to the right, then 180 degrees to the left, plopped open his pouch full of magecrafting tools, and got down to work.

The most transferrable concept he learned today was the Seimei Star Talisman, capable of turning a magical effect into one that pervaded the area around the charm with a simple circle. Elegant design, one that ran counter to Otis’s own philosophy of concentrated micro-inscriptions.

Next, he pulled out one of his bullets, an Invoke: Phoenix cartridge. With a chisel, Otis carefully knocked open the base of the bullet and let the catalysts within out. Invoke bullets allowed for instantaneous firepower beyond what the catalysts for summoning an entity usually would allow, but that didn’t change the fact that these were still the proper catalysts for summoning a Phoenix. With practiced strokes, the tawny-haired youth drew out a small summoning circle.

Icarus was a Phoenix, and that gave him the classification of ‘yokai’. Otis was a Strigidae, and that gave him the classification of ‘beast’. What was the difference, and how did one tell that difference?

He slapped down a notepad, whispered the words to complete the summoning ritual, and in a poof of smoke, a small phoenix the size of his hand popped onto the circle. It chirped charmingly at Otis, who tossed it a slice of salmon from dinner. “Just stay still,” he said, allowing his mana to slide into his nerves and eyes. “Scan.”

Irrelevant information that he could’ve grabbed from any Arcanis encyclopedia flooded into his vision, but rather than read what he already knew, Otis tried to slow down the processing of the spell itself, carefully breaking down each individual component of the spell as he sussed out the specific magical formulation that scanned one’s race. If something could be cast, something could be magecrafted. He turned it on himself next, recording details again of what exactly the Scan spell was reading, and then, from his notes, figured out the differences.

There was an x-factor here, a factor that separated the spirits from the beasts, and the more accurately he could narrow down that factor, the more efficient and precise the magecraft he was trying to make would be. He cast and analyzed the fire element to remove that from the equation. He baited and scanned an actual bird to remove that from the equation. Immortality was unlikely to be scannable, but considering how Koyuki, Tsurara, and Icarus all naturally had the ability to live forever, that could be a factor worth looking into actually. Otis let out a breath, didn’t even want to look at the clock, and got back to work.

The construction will be a pendulum. Spherical in shape to multiply the effectiveness of the Seimei Star Talisman’s ‘circular’ enhancement. Demons were always of the night, so he’ll coat the inscriptions with moondust. The guiding function will come from his Fairy Bolt – Seeker design, efficacy reduced so that it didn’t snap the cord. The Scan inscription will be specialized to only search for the specific trait of ‘immortality/spirituality’, supported by the energy-reading function that came with the Eyes of the Dead talisman from the Tsuchimikado craft.

Otis poured over his outline carefully, simulating each step within his head. He popped open his tin can of sweets and mindlessly crunched down on a handful of jawbreakers. The baby phoenix, bored of a summoner that told it only to stay still, had long disappeared, but Otis didn’t mind. With hammer, chisel, and amber eyes that never blinked, the Strigidae began to carefully carve away, one gentle tap at a time.

A night slowed down into hours slowed down into minutes slowed down into seconds.

But the Strigidae continued to work, with a focus that crushed all worthless thoughts to dust.

All worthless thoughts, save for one.

Fuck these adults.

Otis did not sleep. But he was fine. He didn’t need sleep so long as he had a steady supply of sugar and caffeine. Convenience stores sure were convenient! And when the sun finally rose, he rose with it, dust off a night’s worth of labour and marvelling the craft he had committed himself to. Everything was pain, and he’d still have to do some trial tests, but for now…

Actually, no! He can do everything else on the fly, but he definitely needed to test that out now!

So, grabbing bread from the Lawsons that he had become very well acquainted with over the last night, he brought the pendulum with him to the scene of the crime: Kiyomizu Shrine. It was both a spiritual place AND a place where some yokai did some shit. Definitely a place to start, and more than that, a place to rest!

Because after his twenty minute brunch break, Otis was going to go on a tour of all the power spots in Kyoto, collecting data on the efficacy of his new device, making adjustments where he needed to.

Time for Round Two with Eiseikato.

Ultana Whelen - Streets Of Kyoto

When she finally found her target shop, it lived up to being a 'hole-in-the-wall- store.....as there was a literal hole in the wall. And the fact that the look of the place didn't exactly give a good first impression....so all in all, it was exactly what they've said! The fact that on her way there, she ended up running into Asta again was probably a sign from the food gods that this place had the kind of ramen she was looking for! After all, all the places she ran into Asta at all ended up having some really good food. Meeting like this seemed to be par-for-the-course for them, everyone had their own thing and food was theirs.

"I think ramen would be a perfect dish for Crystis, warm, delicious and the broth gives you the pick me up you need out there! Though....." Ultana paused thinking about the climate there it really did make her wonder...."Would the ingredients even be able to be grown there?" She knew magic can do some real incredible things that made some real uninhabitable places habitable....but she didn't know much about the place other than what Asta has mentioned before. It would be a crime against humanity for one to go without knowing the joys of ramen!

Another point, other than the food being that really delicious, that she really loved was how peaceful it is. Well, it could be because the place was empty, other than the two of them and the salaryman in the back but still it was nice being able to talk freely without worrying about people getting into their business. Though, that also meant that not as many people get to enjoy this one of a kind ramen! But, back to the conversation, Asta pointed out the strangeness in them always meeting like this and both happening to find this exact same store at the exact same time. Talk about fate!

While Asta clearly did her research, Ultana just ran over the place asking random people where she can get the best ramen and this place was far and away in the majority. But perhaps that too can be considered 'research'.....though, saying a big chunk of that was dumb luck would probably be more accurate...."No kidding, but when you're looking for the best food to eat, it's only natural you'll come across a fellow foodie!" She laughed as she scooped another serving into her mouth, food going everywhere as she continued to laugh.

After they finally finished their meal and conversation, it was time to end their day. Though, before Ultana made her exit, She 'invited' Asta on a run back to the hotel. Nothing like some good exercise to burn off a full stomach, especially if you totally forgot to workout earlier in the day! Ahem

Placing what she owes on the table, she signaled the owner and sprinted out of the door.

Kyoto

Saturday, June 4th 20XX

The Saturday trawled onwards, the tense heat accompanied by the harsh, deafening cries of the cicadas. The heat of today seemed to be a little more intense than yesterday's, with areas just a little far off appearing distorted as a result. The hustle and bustle of Kyoto's city center continued on as per usual, unaware of the stagnant atmosphere that had befallen their precious city, yet those who were more in the know felt somewhat suffocated by the day. One could simply say that the especially hot day was to blame, but there felt to be a bit more than that.

For the most part the day through to afternoon went as normal, undisturbed. Ultana had returned to the Onmyou Fujiwara Library to study into other things, Otis had begun his own campaign in the wake of suspicious events as he returned to Kiyomizu-dera, Lorelai hit the town with her new bird friend, and Aurelius resumed his training under the vagrant wandering swordsman. Koyuki meanwhile was possibly the most unaware of the atmosphere within Tokyo, being in an entirely different area.

Nijo Castle

"Ehhh? But we have tickets",
"what's the meaning of this? We weren't told anything"

"Wasn't it fine yesterday? What gives?"

"We are deeply sorry for this inconvenience, but due to some key parts of the exhibition and estate being broken, we are undergoing emergency repairs and renovations as some of them have been identified as dangerous. We will allow people with tickets to reschedule, or reimburse their cost in full, again we are deeply sorry", this did little to sway the discontent crowd, though eventually some had left while others had decided to take the clerk's offer. The gates leading into Njio Castle were barred off, with standard staff at each entrance, security guards, as well as a bit further back an individual garbed in white. Most may see them as simply important staff in the tourism of Kyoto, but others may recognize them as the uniform of onmyoudo.

"Is it true? They're here of all places? I thought the Yatagarasu had this place locked down. What are those damn crows doing?!"

"Doesn't matter, they're here now. We've successfully evacuated the area and are to keep it locked down until we can get more help. Unfortunately Motsumine is on a trip to Eiseikato, so we'll have to trouble the Kirizanto for help",

"Him? Mmmmm, well at least I'm not the one informing him... I don't envy the messenger. He takes his prosecution work more seriously than his family's duty..."

It appeared trouble was going down at Nijo Castle.

@I-Am-X
After overhearing some of the other onmyou at the estate talk about something happening at Nijo Castle, curiosity may get the better of her after a long day of just sitting down and reading texts. Perhaps it was a good time to go and spread her legs.

@ERode
Otis' exploration and investigation leads him eventually to Nijo Castle. A sudden and huge spike in activity had led him here in the midst of his investigation. The commotion out the front and familiar uniforms told him everything he needed. Something was going down here.

@Lonewolf685
Thanks to Sakichi whose job was scouting, they were naturally led to Nijo Castle. Sakichi who was also curious what was going down would also be willing to sneak into the castle grounds and find out what was happening.

@Taka
Aurelius after training was invited by Akimoto to check out what was going on at Nijo Castle, as he felt something interesting may happen there, a wanderer's instinct he would so claim. Aurelius would arrive to see a crowd outside the main gate.

@Amaterasu
Though completely unawares of the events of Nijo Castle, she had something else she had to work on. As soon as work had concluded, Lady Kuzunoha put her to train intensely on her illusion skills, and to craft her own unique style.
  • Not participating
  • Huge INT bonus once you finish making your style.

His luck was turning around, that was for sure. Otis looked at the spherical pendant he held in his hands as it practically pulled at itself until it was parallel to the ground. A powerful reaction for sure, and the location…the Strigidae closed his eyes and cupped his ears, listening carefully to the world around him. There was commotion, chattering, all just a couple blocks away, through the gaps between buildings and intersections, he saw the low-lying walls of Nijo Castle. A small crowd had formed at the gates, and more people were evacuated from within the premises as well. That castle…he recalled that it was one of the World Heritages Sites, as well as its history of being a project conceived by the first of the Tokugawas, but other than that, nothing in particular stood out. No terrible murders, no gloriously supernatural incidents, nothing that the public would be aware of.

Otis grimaced. Once again, public knowledge was found lacking. But there was one thread worth considering, at least. Nijo Castle was where authority was restored to the Imperial Court. Seirin was connected to that same royal lineage in some way. What associations were there?

Low-lying as the walls were, the Strigidae sprung up the side of one of the buildings adjacent to it, scrambling over patios and leaping off emergency stairwells until he pulled himself up onto the roof. From there, he had a clear view of what was within the walls, and Otis sat himself down, slinging his backpack off his shoulders and patting his sidepouch to ascertain its contents. Good, he was prepared. Better, he had brought his gun this time. Breaking it open, he loaded the chamber with deliberation, envisioning the best order of bullets that would work to cover the widest variety of situations.

Now, the only question…what was this? A monstrous incident, or a portal to another world?

He propped his offhand on his bent knee, then rested his revolver on top, watching carefully from a distance. The first bullet was a Vorpal Warp. Whether it was best for him to escape or to charge right in, Otis would be able to do so at the speed of a bullet.

Now, what answers could be uncovered here...

Lorelai De Windt

For all that Lorelai had tried to be productive in her Kyoto trip, the righteous fire still burning in her buxom, she still found herself easily sidetracked with a day of tourism and snacking alongside the affable tengu. True, Sakichi had exterior motives for being here, but she was so in-the-moment that Lorelai couldn't find a regretful bone in her body the entire day they had spent.

That being said, the blonde found her spine straightening with a rigid anticipation as the Tengu led her to a cordoned off castle. The fruits of her scouting told them both that whatever plot unfolding in the revered city would be raising from the shadows here, and after pointing out the concealed Otis, Lorelai had to agree. She waved Sakichi off to carry out her official duties further ahead, the Dutch-Japanese student certainly more a hinderance when it came to a quiet infiltration when compared to the youkai.

That left her to whistle from above the waiting classmate meaningfully before putting her legwork to use in quickly leaping down to his level. With her weapon wrapped and concealed behind her back, looking like little more then a particularly long poster tube, she was as ready as the revolver toting Otis.

"So, you here for a second round too?"

Ultana Whelen - Kyoto - Nijo Castle

Today Ultana found herself back in the library, why you might ask? Well, she kind of got distracted with the whole scroll thing last time and didn't really get anywhere with her real purpose here. Which was, of course, to find out more about the style that assassin used. It didn't take her long for her to start getting annoyed and to start getting a headache from all the texts she ended up reading. So when she overheard some of the onmyou at the estate about something going down at the Nijo castle, it was the excuse she needed....err the reason she needed to take a break!

Nothing eases the mind like a good fight! Well.....there's no guarentee that there'll be a fight but it was better than having to go through another scroll....With no hesitation, she hauled ass over to Nijo Castle.

When she arrived there she saw a big angry crowd at the front entrance with the staff along with a guard entail barring them entry. "Doesn't look like the front is an option...." she muttered to herself as she looked for a way in. After making sure she wasn't spotted, she went around the castle looking for a spot where defense was a bit lax. After what seemed like she was walking FOREVER, she found an entrance guarded by a very bored guard detail. They weren't bored enough to where she can tip toe passed them but it was enough to where they weren't looking toward the wall.

Once one of the guards turned around, she whispered an incantation “With an unyielding will, I call upon the power of the earth to aid me in this fight.” Crouching down, she sprang up, using her enhanced leg strength to jump up and climb over the wall. It was probably overkill but it was fun, even if it almost got her caught. Luckily she was over the wall before they thought something was up. She wasn't sure where she was going but she was sure she'd eventually find something.

With a shrug, she kept out of sight and started wandering around.

Aurelius Pendragon

Nijo Castle. Aurelius stood at the entrance of the castle alongside his companion Lady. They had been talking the whole trip to the castle, discussing the training that the young swordsman had undergone. Lady was intrigued and had taken her own liberties in trying to copy the techniques to mold into her own style, Aurelius giving her pointers despite being the less talented of the two. They were enjoying the talk whilst watching the Tokyo scenery pass them by. By the time the pair had reached the castle, Lady had been draped in Japanese apparel including a bright yellow Pikachu hat that stuck out like the sun in the sky.

Ignoring the few eyes on Lady, Aurelius was fixated on the guards blocking entrance to castle. Something was amiss and Aurelius could feel it in his very bones. Call it a intuition but, he wondered just what was going on.

"Hey sooooooo.... ya think something bad is happening?"

"I don't know but I think it's best that we keep an eye on things."

NIJO CASTLE

Saturday, June 4th 20XX

The situation around Nijo Castle did not appear to be improving, as the day went on, more would-be visitors would arrive only to be turned away. The crowd never seemed to change in size as the day went on, even as they informed others of the status of the castle in social media. It wasn’t until the sight of a few dark shadows and the shape of what appeared to be monsters of various forms was there a change in the situation.

“It’s them! Get after them!”, among the crowd of invaders as they leapt over the castle walls, somehow disappearing from sight, the onmyoudo who were on guard began to file in appearing to come meet them inside and repel them.

These events left ample opportunity for the bold to rush past the barrier. No one but those who were in the know had any reason to do so, and as they crossed the barrier, the sky turned a dark blue, the light of the entire castle changed to an ethereal quality, and the noise of Kyoto’s streets had disappeared. They were within a large field set down by the onmyoudo in employ of the alliance.

As they progressed through the castle they witnessed some fighting, though perhaps that was a strong word for it. It was more like the onmyoudo they encountered were already defeated as they followed this trail of carnage, the flutter of a white haori just off in the distance, and soon they reached the courtyard in front of the Ninomaru Palace.

Standing there was a man in a blue yukata with a white haori draped over his shoulders, his eyes red and hair a pale silver. It wasn’t until now but… They felt a golden light radiating from the inner castle just over the bridge that went over the castle’s moat.

The silver haired man turned his head towards that golden light, beholding in his eyes what appeared to be an egg radiating the light of the sun.

“I see the young lady has done it…”, he turned his eyes now back to the group that had gathered.

“You all don’t look like members of the Alliance, those crows, or even people of note. Have you come to watch? Beautiful is it not? Behold, the light of Amaterasu herself, but a tiny sliver of her power, and it shall be the Egg from which Tamamo will be reborn. Under her radiance, shall we yokai find a true home, and true salvation, to stand above humanity, not be cowering in their shadow”, he raised his arms as if embracing a descending sun as he spoke, but as his talking had stopped, he slowly lowered his arms.

Otis’ eyes were better than others, being an owl and bird of prey after all, he could see the fine and slight as well as almost imperceptibly fast disruption in the wind heading straight for him. This man didn’t need to use arrows the whole time? He had this kind of thing under wraps too? Was it exclusive to the demonic form? Whatever Otis’ thoughts may have been, by the time he could finish thinking of them the blade would have reached him by then.

“Simulate: Crag Knight’s Oath”, a golden aura erupted around Otis, overlaid with blue grid-like lines before disappearing entirely. The wind blade merely chipped the ethereal armor before just disappearing entirely. Against rock, wind would have very little sway, especially as a ranged technique.

Crag Knight’s Oath, an advanced spell that Otis might recognize as being used by one of the higher level knights in Arcture. Was a knight of Arcanis here…? No, something was off about that spell.

As the group looked to the sky they might notice a familiar blue bird flying by, seemingly made up of mana, before disappearing. Shinzou visibly confused looked up, he knew well enough someone new had arrived, but he did not expect a second.

“Simulate: The Great Port of Undine”, a whirlpool began to form in the area between the group and Shinzou, who began to aim his finger towards it, ready to shoot right away regardless of whoever emerged, recognizing that it was a portal, not an attack. For a single moment he went from standing in cool position, to staggering backwards as a silver flash swept right through his shoulder, the demonic skin cracking and breaking away as he regained his footing, regenerating rather quickly after the strike.

Shortly after that, a familiar man jumped up and out of it, he held a tanto in his hand, which was unusual was he was normally seen with a much longer weapon, yet this one was ornate, slightly beaten. Kuuto had arrived, and with the previous spells that had been cast, so had Utsumi, likely as support from a safe location.

Still in the air he drew the blade again, Shinzou stepping back to brace, managed to avoid a direct strike. The moment Kuuto drew the blade from the tanto, the blade itself was longer than a full sized katana, and glowing, almost ethereal.

He landed sprightly as the water portal closed below him.

“Quite the timing, Motsumine himself was away, so I had to drag myself from my office here, but it looks like this was all related to the case anyways”, then under his breath, ‘not like I can prosecute a bunch of yokai anyway’. He looked at the situation, the students spread around, the dead bodies of members of the Alliance, the high profile yokai terrorist Shinzou, and the golden egg… His biggest worry was the egg. There was nothing currently present in Kyoto that could break that egg and cleanly end this. He held his fingers to his ears.

“Utsumi, gather up the other Alliance members. We’ll need to figure out what we’re gonna do about that egg. I’ll see if I can capture Shinzou”, after a moment, he nodded, then got back to it.

“Sorry kid but end of the line for you today”, as he entered a stance, a black shadow moved and manifested around Shinzou, the same one that Otis had seen that other day.

“A kurobozu?”, Kuuto recognized the being before him, as it whispered into Shinzou’s ears. He did not seem pleased but...

“Fine, let us begone of this place”, he turned his back as he seemingly walked into the shadow itself, like that space there was another layer.

Kuuto immediately sprung into action but by the time he had drawn his blade, the two had disappeared and the blackness was no longer visible.
