Bobby sighed as she kissed his cheek, “Love you too, darlin’”

He was a worry wart. She was the only family he had left, and her safety was his top priority, along with his boys. Seeing two of the three off to work a job that he wasn’t even sure of was a little scary. As he thought about them, he remembered that he had forgotten to check in on Sam, that week.

Dean shrugged his shoulders when Mika spoke about Bobby, a goofy smile on his face, “I think it’s kind of adorable, really. He loves you a lot. I think you’re the only person he’d kill me over…”

He laughed, and tossed the bag he had grabbed from the kitchen into the trunk, before running over to the passenger side, “Honestly, we should probably hit the hospital soon. Check in at the motels is usually around 4 pm. We got time. And I wanna see you work your sexy work place outfit for the suckers at the hospital.”

He gave a sheepish grin as he opened his door and dipped down into the passenger seat. He was in a ridiculously good mood, considering they were going into this hunt blind. It wasn’t werwolves, and as far as they knew, it wasn’t vampires. Today would likely be a good day, one way or another.

Mika couldn't help but chuckle and nod at Dean's obversations about Bobby. She couldn't deny his assumption as she knew Bobby would gladly kill anyone to defend her and keep her with him. That was the one main thing she knew he and Bobby had in common.

At his suggestion that they hit the hospital first she gave a nod and another laugh as he said about wanting to watch her work the whole 'I'm an fbi agent whether you wanna believe ie or not' scheme. "of course you do" she replied before ducking down and into the car, closing the door as she did so.

She did the usual pattern of putting her keys in the ignition, bringing the car to life with a roar, putting it into gear and beginning the thirty minute drive to their destination as she made a mental note of how good a mood Dean was in today.

----

The drive was a little over thirty minutes due to traffic that unexpectedly appeared right near the end of their journey, but they got to the hospital in question, her pulling up into one of the front parking spots with ease.

Turning the ignition off, she leaned over to the glove compartment and pulled out the tin box she kept all her ID's in and pulled out her FBI one stating her name was Agent Jett. Closing the box back up, she put it back in the glove compartment. With the ID placed into her inside jacket pocket she looked at Dean. "ready to go?" she asked, grabbing her keys.

As the reached their destination, Dean watched Mika pull out her ID box out of the glove box, smiling warmly at how similar they were in where they stored things, and how. He wanted to go through the box, and look at all of the IDs, but he knew there was no time, and fully planned to do so later on.

He patted his chest and then his sides, feeling his FBI wallet that Bobby had made him, since his was still in the Impala, in the right side pocket. Reaching his hand into his pocket, he pulled it out and flipped it open, laughing with a bright smile.

“Agent Seger!”, Dean mused, running his finger over the fake badge, before snapping it shut and stuffing it back into the pocket inside of his jacket, “Bobby knows me so well.”

“I’m ready when you are…”, he leaned over and read the name on her ID, smiling brightly again, “Agent Jett. Has anyone told you that you look fantastic in blue, Ms. Jett?”

He placed his tongue between his teeth, and opened his door to leave the car.

She waited for Dean to make sure sure he had his fbi badge, checking it over and smirking at his reaction to the name Bobby did for him. If they were normal people there was no way she'd ever find it endearing at how excited he was getting over a fake federal ID, but then, they were exactly normal people with this life.

Mika also wasn't that bothered that he just had to look over at her ID before she put it into her jacket inside pocket. "charmer" she quipped at him as she got out of the car and locked the doors after she saw they were both well and truly out and had doors closed.

She walked round the car to meet him on the pedestrian path as she adjusted her jacket so it wasn't crumpled up in the waist from all the sitting down. "now or ever" she told him and refrained greatly from taking his hand to walk inside. This wasn't the time to act like a girlfriend, this was a time to act as his colleague.

Stepping inside the hospital she headed straight to the reception first, pulling out her ID she showed it to the receptionist, "Agent Jett, this is Agent Seger, can you tell me the direction of the morgue?" she said, looking at the receptionist square in the eye and keeping her tone very formal. She could see the receptionist eyeing the ID with great scrutinity and she just knew what was he was thinking.

"A bit young for an FBI" he remarked, making Mika just give him a deadpan look, "Luck of the genes I guess" she just said back, not wanting to go into a big thing just yet. "the morgue?" she asked again, showing she wasn't here to play games. The receptionist gulped and pointed down to the lift on the right, "take the second elevator to the right, it'll take you right down there" he instructed, "I'll let the coroner on shift know you're on the way" he said, picking up the phone.

"thank you for your cooperation" she commented one last time and tilted her head in a gesture to say to Dean 'let's go'. She walked with him to the elevator in question and pressed the button to call for it.

Dean walked with Mika up the path, and through the doors of the Hospital. He followed Mika’s direction, letting her take control to keep up appearances. He was the guard dog cop, and he had to act like it, as he ‘protected’ his partner. Stepping close to her side, he resisted the urge to place a hand on his back as they stepped up to the reception desk and he pulled his FBI badge, flipping it open to the receptionist.

He narrowed his eyes, tempted to say something smart about the comment on age. It was a touchy subject, always being disrespected because of his age, but Mika handled it like a champ, causing him to smile proudly toward her, his face trailing down her body as she stepped back from the desk.

“I told you they would think I look like a baby. I’m supposed to be your bad cop…but they’re more scared of you, than me…”, he muttered, near her ear as they waited for the elevator, “But you do look like a powerhouse, in that suit. I’m just saying.”

He breathed the words against her neck, resisting the urge to kiss her ear as the elevator arrived and they stepped inside.

Hearing Dean complain about how young he looked again Mika gave a sad sigh. "hey, for all we know he said it about the both of us. You don't look like a baby Dean, I promise you" she said quietly back at him, resisting the urge to react to his whispers against her neck and ear. If they were in the motel she would be kissing him in no time, but she had to be professional in this moment.

Stepping inside the elevator when it got there, she pressed for the more and watched the doors close behind him, luckily it being only them in the elevator. "and just to let you know? You look incredibly hot in that suit as well" she smirked looking at him a but more flirty now they wouldn't have eyes on them too much.

Glancing up, she saw a security camera in the top left hand corner and sighed, knowing that she couldn't even kiss him in here as there was the camera. "it's very difficult to keep my hands off of you" she added, before the doors opened to reveal they were down in the basement where the morgue was situated.

She put on a straight face again and walked out with him toward the morgue and coroner's office, where she saw a slightly older gentleman, around the age of Bobby if she were to guess. Knocking on his office door she stepped inside slightly, "I'm Agent Jett, and this is Agent Seger. I believe you were told we were coming down." she introduced to them both.

"ah yes, I'm guessing you're both here for the recent killings?" the coroner replied, looking up at them, but then noticed how young they both seemed. "we are" she said back, "but first, I must ask for both your IDs" the coroner added, making Mika sigh and pull it out handing it over, to which he took it and scrutinised it.

"I must say, we don't get a couple of young looking agents very often." the coroner commented. "I can assure you, we may look young but we are more than capable of our jobs. I have an IQ of 125, surpassed all my fellow students by reaching college before any of my age group and passed every test the FBI possibly threw at me before someone twice my age. And besides, sometimes looking young brings an advantage on cases like you wouldn't believe." she said back firmly. It was all utter bullshit but she delivered it with such confidence and belief in her own words, to anyone who wasn't Dean it would be hard to tell if it was a lie or not.

"very well..follow me if you both will" the coroner found himself saying, handing back her ID and then lead the way to where the unexplained injured bodies were.

Dean watched her face as they stepped into the elevator, his eyes scanning from her eyes to her lips as she told him he was hot. He wanted to just reach out and grab her, being in such tight quarters. But as her eyes raised to the security cameras, his followed, “Gotta keep it professional, Ms. Jett…at least until we get out of here…”

He finished his words just as the doors opened, and he dropped his face back to a brooding glare as they walked up to the office door. He stuck by her side protectively and never moved his face as he pulled his badge, handing it over Mika’s shoulder. As soon as the man commented on their ages, he knew that Mika would chime in, but when she delivered her lines without a single miss, he absentmindedly raised his eyebrows and then stared down at her proudly, breaking his cover a bit.

Dean took his ID back, and smirked, “What the hell was that?”, he asked into her ear as they followed the coroner, incredibly impressed by her.
“I’m a decent actor…but wow…”, he chuckled, his hand coming down to her lower back, before he realized he was supposed to act perpetually angry and protective. He pulled his hand back to shove it in his pocket and wiped the smirk off his face.

Luckily for Dean, the coroner was looking down at their ID's when he broke his cover just a little bit by looking Mika proudly. The coroner soon lead the way to the bodies, letting both Dean and Mika follow him behind and Mika smirked when Dean whispered to her his impression of what she just did. Hearing him be in such awe at her bull that she spewed out to the coroner meant a lot to her, more than he would probably realise. "Watched way too many crime dramas" she whispered back to him, smiling at the feel of his hand on her lower back before he snapped back into agent mode.

She followed the coroner into the main part of the morgue where the bodies in question were still on the tables and covered with a sheet, except for their heads and necks. There were three of them and their necks looked like they were ripped open by some sort of animal. "Here they are" the coroner said, walking over to them with both Mika and Dean and picking up the files, handing them to the two of them.

"I must say, these three have me completely stumped. It looks like they were attacked by some kind of big cat or some kind of rabid dog but there's no way there would be big cats roaming around here and according to animal control no rabid dogs are around" the coroner explained to them both, as Mika flipped through the file that she had in her hands, and walked round one of the three bodies to get a closer look.

Putting the file down, she picked up a pair of gloves, putting them on and then picked up a scalple to use the blunt end to check the throats to see if there was anything the coroner missed. She could swear she saw something in the throat she was looking at so she looked at Dean and gave him the gesture to come and take a look himself. "Are these the only three with this fatal injury?" She asked the coroner, "Yes, the only three, all absolutely identical. If you find something I haven't I'll be highly surprised. If I don't sign off with some kind of cause of death by the end of the day I feel I'll have no chocie but to put unknown or just say slit throat" the coroner continued.

"Well, that's why we're here, to get those answers" she told him.

Dean walked through the morgue, still close to Mika’s back and gulped a bit when he saw the bodies. He didn’t have a weak stomach typically, but there was something about throat wounds that just made him queasy. He snarled his nose, and cleared his throat to hide his discomfort, before leaning over one of the bodies, his hands in his pockets, staring at the deep bite wounds in the neck.

“Looks like a Tiger or a Lion…”, he muttered absent mindedly along with the doctor, while Mika flipped through the file, “There’s not a zoo here. So, maybe someone has some illegal animals locked up somewhere and one got loose…”

He shrugged his shoulders, his eyebrows raised as he peered over at Mika, who was already picking up gloves and a scalpel. He watched her intently, until she summoned him. Quickly walking over to the body, he leaned down peering into the wound as she separated it with the scalpel.

Looking up at Mika with a quizzical look, he shrugged his shoulders, “Bears maybe? I swear it looks like they were chewed up by something big, but it doesn’t look brutal enough for a dog bite…”

Dean pulled a glove from the box, only putting the one over his right hand, and spread his fingers the width of the wound, to show how wide the bite had to be, “I mean, this thing had some chompers…”

"well I'll leave you to do...whatever it is you need to. I'll be in my office if you need me" the coroner finally said after Dean walked round to look at what she was looking at and Mika said they were there for answers.

Mika waited for the coroner to leave before taking a closer look and finding something in the wound. "it's definitely something bigger than a dog, that's for sure" she agreed, looking for some tweezers or something to grab what she saw. She locked eyes on what she was looking for and pulled out what seemed to be a hair. "well doc missed something" she commented, holding it up to the light trying to figure out what kind of hair it was.

"did anything in the files say anything about hair or fur being found on the victims?" she asked Dean, as she put the hair down on the nearby tray. "something is just plain out bugging me about this. It's definitely our kind of thing but I can't put my finger on it. Werewolf maybe? But the hearts are still in tact, so can't be that.." she theorised out loud.

She kept racking her brain for an answer, but without her laptop or anything to hand she was stumped for a moment. The answer staring them in the face but it was just alluding her enough to make her question the whole situation. Then it dawned on her, making her snap her fingers and remove the gloves. "I'll want to double check my theory but I think this could be a skin walker" she told him.

Dean spread the wound a bit, seeing the hair that Mika was seeing, but not quite making out what it was, until she pulled it out with the tweezers. He leaned in close to her head as she held the hair up to the light, and he shook his head, “I don’t know.”

He walked over to where she had laid the file, and picked it up, flipping through it as she theorized. He narrowed his eyes, looking at how incomplete the file was, and thought about werewolves and their MO if they weren’t cutting hearts. Usually, fights between packs could end in a throat being ripped out, but from what he had seen in his time dealing with them, they were typically at a half stage, and so the bite would be mostly human.

“A skin walker? I thought those only existed down in New Mexico…”, he muttered, flipping the file shut, and laying it back on the tray he got it from, “If it’s a skin walker, it will be hard to suss out. I mean, it can be anything. Any animal. And we’re talking about something big. Do we even have a gun that big?”

Dean was almost paranoid it was a werewolf pack, even though he knew better. But the idea that a bear or a tiger was roaming around eating on people’s necks wasn’t much better of an option, in his mind.

Mika's theorising as Dean was looking through the incomplete file made her realise that other than what she said, there really wasn't much else that could do such damage. She would love to say it was something else, something that would be easy to find but she just couldn't.

"if it's not a skin walker then I don't know what else it could be. Sure, they're mostly known for being in New Mexico but it's not exactly the first time things have been here that really shouldn't be" she replied to him, trying not to think back on the fact that her family shouldn't have been killed by a wendigo, but they were.

"as for a gun big enough, I don't know. It'll take a lot of guess work annoyingly. I thi k our next plan of action is looking through the files or do research online back at the motel and trying to pinpoint a common area of where they were attacked. If we can nail down some kind of area it'll be a start. We'll know then where to go tracking. If it's something big, it's bound to have left some kind of foot print somewhere or clues" she suggested to him.

She too was concerned that it would be werewolves but nothing really added up for that. Her gut was telling her a skin walker and she usually always was lead right by her gut. What was clear to her was that this wasn't going to be an easy one day hunt, this could potentially become a several day one if things didn't fall into place soon and that was always a pain in her ass.

"I wonder if this coroner has contacts anywhere that can tell us what kind of hair that is that I found...that could be another way to get some clues." she wondered out.

Dean mulled over in his head the thought of a skin walker moving around outside of New Mexico. They tended to be very loyal to their hunting grounds, but considering they were human, at some point in their day, it wouldn’t be that big of a stretch that a young skin walker would be willing to leave, and run off on their own. He also thought back to the Wendigo that killed Mika’s parents and he swallowed hard.

“After we figure out what kind of animal it is, we can head to a gun store. I’m sure they have some big firepower…and we’re definitely going to need it, if my gut is correct.”, he chimed in, knowing that the grunt work was easier for him to do, than the people work, “And as far as I remember, skin walkers are basically just werewolves that can change into other things at will…so silver and a little patience, and we’re clear in this.”

Dean stepped closer to Mika. He was feeling confident but also nervous, like she was. If this was a skin walker of a larger or faster animal, it could smell trouble. If it wasn’t a skin walker, they could be stuck hanging around for a few days at the least, which meant more chance for trouble, and more chance for one of them to do something stupid.

“I’m sure he knows someone over at the crime lab. We could have him send the hair over there, run it through a few databases, and give them our cards?”, he suggested in a question, leaning down to catch her eyes.

Mika listened to Dean's thoughts on her suggestions, always appreciating a second opinion to her thoughts, and just as importantly, respected his second opinion. He has been doing this job a lot longer than she had after all. She nodded in agreement at his words, having absolutely no problem in going to the local gun store to get more appropriate firepower.

"I agree. It's our best bet at this stage. I just hope it'll be an open and shut case for us and we won't be here for days on end." she told him back, she also hoped it wouldnt come to one of them putting themselves out there as bait to draw the skin walker out even though it was usually the sure fire way to go.

At the suggestion about the hair she nodded again, "good idea, I'll get it bagged and labelled and make him get it sent off as an express thing. If that can come back with the type of animal I fit is animal? That'll make our lives a lot easier" she replied to him.

"so let's get many photos of the the file information as possible and get this checked and then I'd say head to grab some lunch before getting to the motel" she spoke up, refraining from kissing him whilst on the job and grabbing one of the evidence bags on the bottom of the tray, putting the hair into it and zipping it up. Grabbing a pen she jotted down which of the victims it was found on, where it was found and a note to say what they need checked from it.

Dean nodded his head at her hoping it wasn’t going to be a long hunt. He could agree. The last thing he wanted was to be on a long and drawn out mission, without Bobby or his dad with them. Usually, he ended up in way over his head on longer hunts, the more tired he got. He picked up one of the evidence bags that the coroner had laid out on the tray, just in case.

He held it up to Mika between two of his fingers, before dropping it back on the tray, “I think it’s definitely animal. He left these out for evidence, which means either they aren’t sure, or they suspected some pretty harsh murder evidence to come out of it.”

“I’ll grab the photos…”, Dean muttered, pulling his digital camera from his back pocket. He pulled his glove off, and flipped the file open, snapping quick photos of each page. Though, the idea of lunch definitely sounded amazing, as his stomach rumbled loudly.

“I’m definitely down for lunch. My body is screaming for a burger…”, he quipped as she finished her notes and he tucked his camera back into his pocket. He smiled widely at her, almost leaning in for a kiss, before straightening his jacket and shoving his hands in his pockets, “Miss Jett, after you…”

The fact they were on the same wave length of thinking about this ccase told Mika a lot about them and how well they can work together. "exactly, something tells me the coroner isn't telling us everything he's thinking, but for now those suspicions cam go on hold" she replied to Dean.

Letting him take the photos, she focused on the notes on the evidence bag to give to the coroner when she heard his stomach grble loudly and she couldn't stop the smirk that crept onto her face. "never would have guessed" she teased at his comments about being hungry. "makes a change for it to not be my stomach" she quipped smiling broadly back at him as she was about to go kiss him back but then remembered they had roles to play.

She walked on ahead but stayed close to Dean as she exited the main room with the bodies and headed back to the office of the coroner. Rapping on the door, she walked inside, "everything alright agents?" he asked, looking up from his computer. "yes, do me a favour please? Get this bit of evidence sent off and checked in a rush job for me. I found the hair in the neck wound and I need to know what kind of hair it is." she said to him.

"of course Agent Jett. I can get the information back to you in two hours with any luck" the coroner explained, taking the bag from Mika as she ha fed it to him. "thank you, here's our cards so you can get call when the results come back" she told him, pulling out her 'business' card from her inside jacket pocket and handing it over.

"until later" she commented one more time, waiting for Dean and then exiting the room and heading to the elevator with him once more.

Dean nodded his head at the fact that the coroner was being less than thorough with them, but quickly laughed when she mentioned his stomach complaining for a change, “But you exist on rabbit food and light beer. Of course you’re never hungry…”

As they exited the room and walked to the coroner’s office, Dean adjusted his face back to the stoic and intimidating young agent. He leaned his head back, watching the coroner over his the ridge of his nose as Mika gave him the orders, and pulled his own wallet out.

He flipped through the mass of business cards within his wallet, and finally pulled the one with his current alias, handing it to the coroner with two fingers, his face unflinching. He then gave a simple nod to the man, and turned to follow Mika as she left the room.

He leaned in close to her ear with a smirk, “I kinda like playing the guard dog…It makes me feel like one of those sexy renegades from those cop shows. Warm and fuzzies…”

He gave a small laugh, reaching forward to open a corridor door for her, as they entered the reception area. He leaned down again, placing his hand gently against her lower back, “And you’re a good boss…”

Opening the front door for her, he waited for her to step through, before following her outside, taking a breath of fresh air.

Dean's earlier remark about her living off rabbit food and light beer made Mika smirk and roll her eyes. Sure he wasn't far wrong with that but she wasn't going to easily give him that quip. It just meant she would have surprise him with something other than a salad when they grab lunch.

--

With both hers and Dean's business cards given to the coroner, they left and she had to admit she was more than glad to be leaving. Morgues just always made her uneasy deep down, even though she never showed it. For her it was a bit too much of a trigger to her knowing that the bodies on the slabs could have been her. Not only that she simple hated the clinical smell they always had.

His whisper made her smirk and half successfully stifle a snigger, "oh you definitely pull that off well" she whispered back to him as they made their way back upstairs, to the reception area and outside into what could be considered 'fresh air' as he said what a good boss she made.

"glad you think so and come on, let's get your stomach fed with that burger you so want" she smiled, seeing a diner two doors down on the opposite side of the road. It seemed like the most logical option as she wouldn't be far from her car that she always hated leaving far from her, being the paranoid woman she was.

She walked with him to it, crossing the road and heading inside looking for a corner booth or table so they wouldn't be possibly bothered. She wanted to drop the bravado just a little bit with him over lunch and she knew a back corner table or booth was the perfect way to do that.

Dean smiled at her comment of him being a good ‘renegade’. It meant his acting was good. However, when she mentioned food, his eyes perked up, and he smiled brightly, letting his cover crack. Walking with her to the diner, he almost had to jog to keep up, as she seemed very business oriented.

“This place smells like it has good burgers…”, he muttered as they entered the diner, and the smell of the food hit his nose. He placed his hand on her lower back again, and pointed to the corner booth in the very back of the restaurant. He typically chose these types of booths to help with his paranoia of having his back to a door, at least while he was close to one.

“So, are we doing business over lunch, or do we wanna take a break? I’m down for either, but this place just gives me that old school greasy spoon romance vibe…”, he asked, sitting into the back side of the booth by the wall. He peered around the diner, instinctively, seeing if there were any signs of strangeness. He found none and sighed with relief.

Mika chuckled at his comment about the diner smelling like it did good burgers. To her it was such a typical Dean thing to say which made her heart soar and a smile to be on her face broadly. She even welcomed having his hand on her lower back again as they headed to the back corner booth he manage to spot before she did and headed to it.

At his question and assumption she smiled as she too sat down opposite him. "I think we deserve a short break" she commented back to him, "and you're right, it does. Reminds me of our many diner visits as teenagers" she said back to him agreement. Of course, for her nothing beat her first diner date with him, even if the night ended up upsetting because her dad couldn't control his anger. The time they spent at the diner, with her just ordering cheesy fries and a milkshake to share with him was still, even after all this time, one of her most fondest memories.

She saw him peering round to assess the diner and knew he was making sure there was no immediate danger, which she didn't blame him for doing. If she was on her own she would have done the same thing. Just as she was going to say something, a waitress walked over with the menus, placing one in front of both of them with a smile, "welcome, here's the menus, and the specials are on the board above the bar. Can I get you both a drink to start with?" she greeted them both.

"I'll have a lemonade thanks" Mika replied, craving a cold drink instead of more coffee. She knew she'd probably be drinking her weight in caffeine if the case they were on dragged on at all. So for now, she was going to let herself have a soda and screw being healthy for a change.
