I guess that depends on the degree in which a persons gyft affects their life. For Leon, he would just be losing out on a shapechange that is clearly combat oriented anyways. But for Matthias... theoretically loss of the gyft would either revert him to true human form, or kill him. Not a coin flip Id be willing to make certainly.
