EPISODE 1: BACK TO ACTION

Charlie Fox was excited about the possibilities of working for the Human Enhancement and Advanced Research Technologies Corporation (otherwise, known as HEART Corp). A decade removed from the war, she was invested in using her skills in technology and engineering to better the world. What better place to work than HEART Corp? With her relentless work ethic and portfolio to back it up, she was blessed with the opportunity to work on a top secret assignment with the project director, Dominic Monroe. The project, dubbed Project Ranger, was an initiative to reopen the Morphin Grid, tapping into the powers used by the Rangers a decade ago.

HEART Corp was able to access the shattered remains of the Power Crystals which allowed them to link them to new Ranger suits and weapons. Unfortunately, this process, along with the sheer energy force that was coming from HEART Corp, directly attracted an evil force into the world. With HEART Corp feeling guilty about this, they felt the need to expedite carrying out Project Ranger. The retrieved Power Crystals were able to power up these new suits made by HEART Corp, but the human connection was something that could not be created by man; the Morphin Grid had to choose who would pilot these suits, something that Charlie knew as a former Ranger herself.

The entire project made Charlie feel dirty, which was why when she found her opportunity, she grabbed as many of the morphers as she could before fleeing HEART Corp's premises. She sought to take matters into her own hands now that she knew what the dangers the world was about to face once again. Her hope was to find some of her old comrades to see if they would be willing to fight once again or potentially find new blood that reminded her of her Ranger family from ten years ago.

Meanwhile, HEART Corp's CEO Simon Stone, who has grown upset about Project Ranger's details being stolen from under his nose, has given the project director permission to go out and do his own recruitment. They need to protect the city of Angel Grove from this new evil while also ensuring that Project Ranger's technology is rightfully returned to the ones who created it. Willingly or forcefully.

O B J E C T I V E S

Sam & Lee - Lee is accompanying Sam at the Angel Grove Outlet Mall since the latter is looking to upgrade his wardrobe going into the new academic year at Angel Grove University. Charlie has been "on the run" from HEART Corp for a few weeks now, still in search of anyone who can develop a link to the other two Power Crystals she has in her possession. Because of the project's top secret nature, her theft isn't something that is reported by the news and kept completely under wraps. In the midst of their shopping, Sam sees someone who appears to be the former Purple Dino Ranger walking around and is reminded of the sacrifice his brother Andre made. Before he can approach her, the mall immediately is under attack by some otherworldly looking creatures.

Fend off the creatures as best as you can and meetup with the Purple Dino Ranger once it dies down.

Jade, David, & Aurora - The Angel Grove Hiking Trails is always a great place to enjoy the outdoors. With her return to Angel Grove for the first time in years, Jade wanted to enjoy a walk along the mountainous trails before diving back into the busy city life. For David, hiking on the trails is part of his routine, as someone who frequently hikes. So, imagine his surprise crossing paths with his former Ranger teammate for the first time in a decade. Aurora, meanwhile, is casually walking along the trails as well, taking pictures with her camera, yearning for visual inspiration in her new city. Perhaps she talks to Jade or David along the way. Regardless, David and Jade's worlds are turned upside down once again when they are attacked by the same creatures that's causing havoc at the mall. For Aurora, this isn't an ideal beginning in Angel Grove either, getting attacked by weird creatures.

Survive the attack until Dominic from HEART Corp arrives.

Charlie wasn't paranoid... but she felt like someone was watching her.

It had been about three weeks since she took some of the tech from HEART Corp and ran out of the building. She wasn't chased per se, but she was certain that the cameras would have caught her stuffing some of the Ranger materials into her backpack before making a beeline out of there. Had all of the tech been available, she would have taken more, but three of the Morphers were now in her possession and Charlie had to live her life constantly looking over her shoulder.

HEART Corp wasn't bold enough to make the details of their top secret "Project Ranger" initiative public, so she figured that they wouldn't press her in public; still, here she was inside of a clothing store, occasionally looking over her shoulder only to see some kid and his mother trying to decide between a graphic tee and a button-up. School would start back soon for kids and the mall was completed packed to the brim for the back-to-school sales.

"So glad I'm done with school..." she mumbled to herself, delicate hand gliding across the fabric of a lavender colored shirt that reminded her of the past.

On her left wrist was her Power Morpher, though it did a good job of parading itself as a Smart Watch. As far as she knew, Charlie was the only Ranger these days and the responsibility of taking whatever these new creatures were down weighed on her heavily. She hadn't quite made her appearance public just yet, only fending off creatures during the night, but she knew at some point that she would need support from someone other than herself. The togetherness of the previous team was what made their bond so strong.

A small backpack was nestled on Charlie's back, containing two additional Power Crystals that she managed to nab from HEART Corp. The way the crystals worked a decade ago was that the shards would immediately bond with a worthy individual. There was no manmade link that could happen as hard as the workers of Project Rangers tried to make it work. Charlie was just fortunate she managed to stay away from the purple Power Crystal long enough before she decide to snatch it and run. It immediately bonded with her.

With where she was standing in the store, Charlie was unaware of the two other guys who were off in the men's section, her back turned away from them while she moved on to the next rack of clothes. With the renewed power flowing through her veins, she was searching for more purple gear. A running joke that the Rangers used to do was wearing colors that coincided with their specific Ranger color. It was childish, maybe a bit immature... but it was comforting.

"Silas would have bought one of those hoodies," Charlie said with a chuckle, slowly walking along the backside wall.

The Power Crystals in her backpack, blue and pink, made her think about her other fallen friends: Eddie, Andre, and Parker. Silas was the glue that kept them together, a leader of sorts. Eddie was the flashy one that loved making the team a perfect meal. Andre was the cool one who could kept everyone laughing (she wondered how his little brother was doing after everything). And Parker was the heart of the team, willing to sacrifice her time and energy if it meant helping others. Charlie missed them as well as the others who stepped away after the war had ended.

Glancing up at the purple hoodie that was just too far out of her reach, Charlie kissed her teeth in annoyance. "The obsession with making short people work harder to grab stuff is... something..." she mumbled, glancing around now for a step ladder.

Location: Angel Grove Outlet Mall
Interacting with: Each other mostly. Charlie mentioned.

Lee’s eyes lit up the moment they walked through the sliding doors. Angel Grove Outlet Mall was not Seoul’s Myeongdong by any stretch of the imagination, but it was still full of possibilities. He was in his element, his eyes darted from storefront to storefront. As soon as he walked into the first store, he was already flipping through clothing racks.

“No…No… Hell no… Ah hah!” He held up an electric blue bomber jacket with gold detailing. “This would look amazing on you! People would stop and stare.” Without waiting for permission, he draped the jacket over Sam’s arm and was already digging through the next rack. “We’re going to find you a look that says, ‘I’m a responsible academic’ and ‘I could front a boy band in my spare time.’” He picked out a pair of black jeans, looked at them for a second, then put them on top of the jacket. “You’re gonna look like an Idol by the time I’m done. Trust me, you’ll thank me later. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow. But one day, when you’re walking across campus and people are saying, ‘Wow who’s that guy!’ You’ll think, Lee really does know what he’s doing.’”

“Trust me.” Sam replied with a smile. “I'm already thinking that. You at least have me looking as if I care about myself enough to look nice.”

Then, with a mischievous grin, he picked out a soft pink button down shirt. He knew it wasn’t Sam’s style, but Lee just smirked. “And this… is for me. You’d look great in it. Pink looks good on everyone!” Then without missing a beat, he went deeper into the store to look for more clothes.

Sam was about to follow Lee and protest his latest choice but something or rather someone caught his attention. It was a young woman about his age, maybe even a bit older, searching through a rack to find some clothes in the women's section. He couldn't see her face yet, but there was something about her that was familiar.

Then he noticed that everything she was looking for was purple or had purple in it. He flashed back to a time when he was shopping with his older brother, Andre. He was tirelessly looking for clothes with silver in it and complained about how hard it was to find any. Everything was either white, gray, or black. He asked Andre why the color needed to be silver and he told him that he and his friends wore color coded clothes. Sam honestly never understood it, especially since they were supposed to keep their identities secret. That'd be like if Clark Kent wore red and blue every day.

The memory made something click for Sam. “No. That couldn't be Charlie. Charl—!!”

He was cut off by the loud sound of screams of panic from outside. He turned his head to the exit and back to who he believed was Charlie, but his vision and path was blocked by a stampede of people rushing through the store and out the door, some with clothes they hadn't yet paid for. Sam sighed and put his clothes back on the rack. He'd get them after he figured out what was going on. “HEY LEE!!! IF YOU HEAR ME, MEET ME OUTSIDE!”

Without waiting another moment Sam dashed towards the exit, avoiding people on his way out. That was until he saw a little girl knocked to the floor and her mother trying to reach her. “I got you.” Sam said as he scooped the girl up from the floor and maneuvered through the crowd to get her to her mom.

“Thank you!” The mom said as she embraced her daughter.

“Don't mention it. Just get to safety. Lee, where are you!?”

Lee had just hit the jackpot. He found blue and gold sneakers that matched the jacket. When suddenly, he heard screaming. He furrowed his brows. “Was there a flash sale I didn’t know about?”

A bunch of panicked shoppers ran past him. The terrified people knocked over a mannequin, and its arm fell off. Without hesitation, he picked it up like a baseball bat. “Don’t move, I’m armed!” He joked to no one in particular. It got no laughs, everyone was busy being terrified, but it made him feel better, as he tried to find Sam in the chaos.

LOCATIONAngel Grove Hiking Trail
INTERACTIONS — Photographer lady @Akayaofthemoon

Angel Grove...

On the edge of the mountain, there stood a blonde, hair messy but somehow still remaining straight, watching the town she used to call home. It was funny, the way it peacefully appeared. Angel Grove had been the epicenter of a lot of conversation. The topics all ranging from the mysterious monsters that once plagued it, the warriors in bright colors that defended it, but nobody talked about how peaceful it seemed from afar. It was like most towns along the coast of Southern California. If you look to the north, there were mountains, where the blonde was right now. In the south, you would eventually reach the Mexican border. The left was the coast and the right was where she came from.

How long had it been? Everything appeared to be so normal. Over the years, she's kept tabs on the current events within the place she used to call home. Angel Grove went through changes. Mayors from all sides came and went, policies that made it better and worse were passed and enforced. But one thing that was rarely ever forgotten and something that made that knot in her throat always act up was the mysterious heroes who saved their town countless times.

The Power Rangers. The heroes who fought to save them all ten years ago and after they weren't needed anymore, they disappeared.

That was what made Jade Taylor so pissed off. Maybe it was her pessimistic view on being a ranger at all that made her mad or maybe it was the fact that people like to forget about them or critics — because there are always critics no matter what — found a way to put some blame on them because they weren't around. What did they expect? Monsters were no longer attacking. And despite what many claim, they weren't hardened soldiers. They weren't these vets of war that had the mental conditioning to endure the horrors of what they went through.

They were, as painfully cliche as the tagline was among the rangers themselves, teenagers who had attitude. They were TEENAGERS! For some, yeah they might've been able to endure but Jade couldn't. Even if the team hadn't disbanded for the reason the public knew - that they were no longer needed - Jade couldn't stay. It wasn't just the fact that they lost nearly half their team in that final battle but Jade lost a piece of herself. She lost her Parker.

But she was back. After ten years of running away and putting it off, she was back. She stood at the edge of the mountain, taking in the familiar sights. From her vantage point she could see everything: the community center where she and others all hung out after school, the mall that always had the best chili cheese fries, the high school she frequently ditched when she didn't feel like learning about how bad the Nazi's were, and immediately, Main Street that had all the mom and pop shops.

She was home.

Jade took in a big inhale of the crisp morning air and heard sounds that sounded like footsteps near her. Old habits kicked in and she took a familiar fighting pose as her body immediately shifted. Her right foot forward, left back, arms close to her with fists raised, right fist close to her vest and left up ready to guard her face. It was natural instinct. Ten years and she still had the habit of fighting like she did when she was a teen. Only, what waited wasn't a Hedgeman that she was expecting but just a girl. A rather attractive, latina girl who had a camera.

Nearly every muscle in Jade's body that had tensed up relaxed as the relief washed over her. Seriously? They're long gone. It's not like it was before. She reminded herself and allowed herself to have a moment of silence for her almost taking the head off this girl. "Sorry bout that. You just startled me," she said, apologizing in case the girl had a moment of fear of getting her ass kicked. She would then, as her attention focused — and rightly so — on the camera, she smiled. "You know...you chose the best place. This particular shot has such a magical view of the city. You can find any angle just from this spot alone." And it was true. Whether you just wanted to come out here to get away from the world or snap some shots, this spot that overlooked the entirety of Angel Grove was perfect.

"I'm Jade by the way." She said holding her hand out. She may look scary but Jade was, at her core, a very compassionate and polite young lady. Unless you did something to piss her off. Then that fighting pose she took wouldn't stop there.

Charlie was too busy walking the perimeter of the clothing racks to notice that Andre's younger brother Sam and his friend Lee were in the store. By the time he attempted to call her name, there was loud and sudden boom that erupted outside, immediately prompting her to snap her head around towards the front of the store.

People were running frantically out of the store (some with clothes in their hands) and others that were running away from something that was outside in the open area. Under any other circumstances, this would have been a foolish endeavor, but with Charlie's bond with the purple Power Crystal once again, a renewed confidence was coursing through her veins that motivated her to defend Angel Grove once again.

Glass shattered at the front of the store behind the cash register area causing Charlie to shield her eyes but also flip forward out of the store and landing on the concrete with an mmph. When she opened her hazel eyes, there was a group of silver-colored warriors holding lances with a double pointed end standing over her.

"Excuse me. One sec..." Charlie said dryly, rolling out of the way of the foot soldiers before tumbling to her feet. Finding an alley in between the stores where she knew her identity could be hidden, Charlie lifted her left wrist that had her Morpher wrapped around it and tapped the screen to activate it.

"Purple Ranger, Dino Power!" she shouted, pressing her palm on the screen as a bright purple light engulfed her body. When it settled down, she was now donning the full suit of the Purple Dino Ranger, feeling even more empowered than before.

Reaching for the Dino Blaster in its holster, Charlie emerged from the alley firing off purple blasts from the weapon causing some of the creature to retreat away into a cluster.

"See? I told you I wouldn't be gone too long," she mused, smirking under her helmet. "I'd ask you to nicely leave, but it doesn't seem like you guys are inclined to listen."

"Is that...?"

"It's the Purple Ranger!"

"The Power Rangers are back!"

Not quite. At least Charlie didn't think so. Not yet anyway. The crowd of people inquiring about the return of Earth's saviors stood on the opposite side of the path while the Purple Ranger went to work.

Replacing the Dino Blaster with the Saber, Charlie walked forward cautiously as more civilians continued to run in the opposite direction (as they should). But when she glanced to the left at the store that she just rolled out of, she noticed a pretty boy with a mannequin arm in his hand (a weapon was a weapon, right?) and another taller guy who was with him. They looked like an odd pairing of friends, but somehow they made it work.

"You two should get out of here while you can," Charlie warned, lowering her stance as the foot soldiers readied themselves.

Flipping forward she slashed one across the chest causing it to burst into silver fragments. This left her guard slightly open as another on slammed their weapon down towards her. Fortunately, Charlie was able to dodge it, quickly reaching for the Blaster and shooting it twice in the chest, sending more broken fragments flying back towards Lee and Sam inside of the store behind the broken glass. She couldn't take them all at once, though, as one of the soldiers grabbed her from behind and tossed her over its shoulder and into some mall signage.

"Mmph..." Charlie grunted, rolling over to her tummy. "Okay... still hurts..."

The foot soldiers were now distracted by Sam and Lee now, now coming towards them since they were in their crosshairs.

"Get out of here!" Charlie shouted, standing up on her feet now and running to chase after the warriors as they closed in on Sam and Lee.

Sam made sure to turn away from the glass once it shattered at the front of the store. He opened his eyes to see Lee running with a mannequin's arm. He had to stifle a laugh before he turned around to see a flash of purple light from an alley. What followed that purple light was something he hadn't seen in almost ten years. The Purple Dino Ranger. He was right. That was Charlie! And wow. The suit looked even better than he remembered.

When Lee caught up with him Sam glanced down at the mannequin's arm. “We're going to talk about your choice of weapons later, but I know her. I know the Purple Dino Ranger.”

Lee blinked at Sam as if he just said he knew Beyoncé. “You know the Purple Ranger? And you’re only telling me this now? I thought we were friends, Samson!” His tone was dramatic, but his grin and the glint in his eye made it clear he wasn’t actually offended.

“It's kind of a long story. I'll tell you more about it when we get through this.” Sam replied before turning his attention back to the suited up Charlie and the crew of plug thugs.

When the Purple Ranger suggested that they get out of there he shook his head and yelled out. “Not a chance! I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy.” This was a phrase that Andre got from their former Army Ranger father and was what likely got him killed in the line of duty. Andre always put others before himself and if Charlie remembered those words he knew she'd recognize him.

When one of the foot soldiers tossed Charlie into one of the mall signs, Sam decided to put his money where his mouth was. He ran and grabbed a garment hook to use as a makeshift bo staff. When the soldiers charged towards him and Lee he charged first swinging down with his hooked staff to clash with its plug pole. “I don't think you're going to find any sockets here that fit that.”

When Sam ignored Charlie’s order to get out of here, Lee wasn’t surprised. This was on brand for Sam. “If you think you’re going to get a badass hero moment without me, you are mistaken!”

He charged forward and whacked one of the soldiers with the mannequin arm with surprising force. “Lee Haneul. Armed and fabulous!” He grinned and flashed a peace sign.

Sam was pleasantly surprised to see Lee handle himself well with the plastic arm. He wasn't going to let his best friend have all the fun. He kicked the soldier he was locked with in the chest causing it to fall and slide backwards on the floor. He then took the opportunity to upgrade his weapon, exchanging his garment hook for the plug pole.

“I wonder what this does.” He said casually before stabbing it into the downed soldier’s chest. It shocked the bot on contact causing it to fritz out. “Wow. This is dangerous. Didn't your mom teach you not to play with weapons? You could seriously get hurt.”

He lifted the plug pole sticking it out in front of him as a lance to the remaining bots coming their way. “They're bots, Lee. You can go all out. Try and get one of these.”

Lee’s eyes lit up as he watched Sam beat up another bot, and take its weapon. “That was kind of hot…” Lee muttered under his breath. His cheeks turned pink, and his heart pounded. It definitely wasn’t because of the fighting.

Another foot soldier lunged, and Lee gracefully ducked under the strike, spinning out of the way. He swung the mannequin arm like a tennis racket, knocking the enemy’s weapon clean out of its hands. Then he picked it up himself. “Aw, thanks. You’re sweet!” He twirled the plug pole like a baton, and then lunged at one of the bots with a surprisingly clean strike across the chest. “Now this is more like it. Much better than fake limbs.”

Another day in nature, David thought as he breathed in the fresh air. Once again, on another one of his hiking trips, and in his usual attire. While this has become his routine, he hikes on this trail regularly. Every time, it still gives him the same sense of peace and security. Something he needed after what happened at the end of the Power Rangers.

For at times he does think about the old days of being a ranger. The rush, the fighting, the action, and the bond they had. Which gives way to the bad memories like the deaths of his friends. Eduardo, Andre, Parker, and Silas. Even though it was ten years ago, the pain feels the same, and with the constant reminder of it being on his chest. It is hard to forget, and even his chest scar hurts sometimes. Like it is reminding him of what he has been through, but still. He tries not to dwell on it and move on with his life. It was ten years ago, and he has not seen a former member of his team since. Yet it lingers in his mind.

So back to enjoying the outdoors and continuing with his hike. He thought as he walked along the trail. Life has been good to him since the end of the Power Rangers. He graduated from college and is working his way to his dream job. Things could not be better, though he feels like something is missing, he just does not know what. It bugs him, and he cannot for the life of him figure out what. So David tries not to think about it until he finds a breakthrough or finds out what is missing from his life.

Going on these hikes tends to remove these thoughts from his mind, and he can just relax. But sometimes they pop up like an unwanted ad, and David just drowns them out with positive thoughts. He is not a pessimist, the opposite, in fact, and now is not the time to think about the past or bad thoughts. Now is the time for peace and relaxation. David thought stubbornly and focused back to good vibes.

As he was doing this and took a moment to stop and rest. David spotted two people and heard them talking. Which normally, he would just mind his business and carry on with his hike. But while the one has a camera and was probably taking some pictures, which at this part of the trail was guaranteed to get some good shots. But the other person seemed familiar to him, and when he heard her voice. Gears started to turn in his head. He was trying to remember if he knew this person since she sounded oddly familiar.

In order to find out for sure, David approached the two. "Hello there, and I hope I am not interrupting but..." That was when David saw her face and knew who she was. Someone that he did not expect to see again. "Jade?" David's words reeked of surprised wonder, and his face showed it."Is that you? I thought you left town and..." David tried using the right words for this revelation. "I did not expect to see you again."

Light filtered in through the trees creating dappled shadows along the stray hiking path she had chosen to meander along, pleased with the results her sunrise excursion had produced. Aurora hadn’t meant to find hours of her time happily lost amongst the beautiful mountainside but she couldn’t say she regretted it because not only was the nature simply breathtaking, it had easily become her favorite location since arriving in Angel Grove. The air was fresh, the smell of pine and earth with just a hint of salty ocean breeze was the perfect mix to wash away anyone’s worries, making them stop and just take a moment to be in the present while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. It’s why when she had found this spot yesterday, she knew that she needed to get a camera out here just to capture a bit of that magic and perhaps a full view or two of the city itself. The very place that had seemed to call to her more than any other and there was one thing Aurora trusted above anything else, that being her gut. Something about this city pulled her to stay the moment she had been searching for inspiration and so she had on a spontaneous whim done just that by getting a small apartment to move permanently.

A soft smile curled on her lips as she tucked strands of dark curls behind her ear while she thought of the friends she left behind calling her crazy for packing up to an unknown place with no one to support her if it didn’t pan out. She remembered just chuckling at them and stating ‘What’s the point of an adventure without a bit of risk?’ and she had meant it, still did. Rory carefully climbed over a fallen log, boots thudding to the ground loudly and her steps far less graceful as she worked to brush off her jeans as she walked but when she caught movement out of the corner of her eye once she broke into a nearby clearing, she found herself jerking back to defensively cover her camera as she had been ready to tank a hit for the device. Really, she needed to set her natural priorities straight and have some self preservation but thankfully she wasn’t greeted with a painful fist to the face. She relaxed her tense muscles as the other woman she ran into did the same, a silence lingering between them for a moment before an apology spilled from the messy haired blonde. ”Don’t worry about it. Wouldn’t be the first time I got clocked in the face if you had. I didn’t mean to startle you so I’m sorry too.”, she shrugged, bushing off the incident and gave a gentle smile.

Aurora took a step closer so she was beside her, looking out at the spot she had stumbled upon and smirked lightly as she teasingly replied with a raised brow, ”You don’t say? It must be my lucky day to be stopped here then, perhaps thanks should be in order...”. She left it open ended though, turning her dark chocolate gaze out to the valley for a moment and just taking in the sight though Rory quickly crossed her arms to lightly clutch at the red plaid fabric of her shirt to stop her twitching fingers to reach for her camera. Nothing killed a growing friendship like ignoring someone to snap into her passion. Her short attention was dragged back to the woman beside her as she introduced herself, hand held out for her to accept. ”Oh, I’m…”, Aurora started to answer with a hand partially raised when another voice rang out to startle her into silence and still her previous actions. "Hello there, and I hope I am not interrupting but...Jade?…Is that you? I thought you left town and...I did not expect to see you again."

She glanced between the two, suddenly feeling incredibly awkward at being caught between a reunion of some kind and slowly curled her hand away from her hovering position to her chest for comfort. It was clear that whoever this man was, he was not only surprised but struggling to find words to express to Jade. It made a tension settle in a way that made her feel like she was interrupting a moment she shouldn’t be witness to. She nervously chuckled which slowly turned into a fake cough at the end, taking a hesitant step backwards before speaking up, ”So you two know each other, huh? That’s cool…if I’m interrupting something…I can just..get out of here?”, fingers pointing in the opposite direction of where the two stood. She wasn’t sure how this was going to shake out between them but she wanted to at least offer privacy if they both needed it. After all, Aurora knew she was the stranger in this equation and it didn’t take a genius to get that some kind of talk was in order if he thought Jade had up and left town never to be seen again but was still here.

"These two are gonna get hurt," Charlie mumbled to herself, though she appreciated their valor. It took that same sort of courage to be a Ranger, whether you wanted to be one or not. She really couldn't focus too long on watching the two attempt to take on the foot soldiers before Charlie realized that she wasn't a bystander.

It didn't register to her at first, hearing the taller one's words, but when she heard the voice in her head again, she could have sworn she heard Andre.

Charlie's backpack was laying flat against the concrete of a broken wall near the two guys and she wouldn't have remembered it if it wasn't, literally, lighting up right now. The Power Crystals inside seemed to be activating in the presence of these two wanting to defend the mall. In an instance, the Blue and Pink Power Crystals shot out of the bag (leaving a sizable hole inside) and spun around Sam and Lee for a few moments. Shortly thereafter, the crystals spun around their left wrist before changing into the same Power Morpher that Charlie had on her wrist. Without prompting from Sam or Lee, their forms changed immediately into the Blue and Pink Dino Ranger.

Help had finally arrived... which meant it was time for these two to begin learning on the fly.

Charlie by no means was the leader of the previous iteration of the Rangers. That responsibility tended to go to Silas and occasionally Parker. But with her technically having the most seniority right now with the these two new Rangers, they were going to need some guidance and direction.

Sprinting forward, she took out her Dino Blaster and blasted a few of the soldiers away. The area had essentially been cleared out and evacuated with the fear of any other creatures feeling the need to pop up. With Charlie standing between the two of them, she glanced over her shoulder to acknowledge them.

"Alright, wise guys... we need to eliminate these baddies quickly and as cleanly as possible. I don't know where they've come from but... I think things will be easier to figure out if we're not having to fight bad guys," Charlie said, nodding her head. "Your weapons will appear so long as you think about it."

As an example, her Dino Saber appeared in a bright purple light once again in her hand and she attached it to the Dino Blaster to create a more powerful weapon: the Dino Blade Blaster. "So... do what you can and try not to die on your first day as a Ranger, yeah?"

With that, she sprinted forward, firing the Blade Blaster as a few of the enemies began to explode into pieces upon impact.

"Just a little bit further... I think this is the time he normally is hiking up here..." Dominic said, sitting in the backseat of a fancily created HEART Corp vehicle. Despite the mild, sunny day, he was dressed in a designer suit with sunglasses over his eyes.

The beauty of the Angel Grove Hiking Trails was always captivating for Dominic. He, too, wasn't from here originally, so there were still parts of the city that required some exploration on his part. The sights, sounds, food and music... Angel Grove was a booming city, so whenever Dominic got a chance, he liked to enjoy it.

The driver of the vehicle parked the car in a parking spot that was a few feet away from where the trails began to serpentine around the edge of the somewhat mountainous area. Getting out of the car, Dominic made his way to the trunk and opened it, revealing a titanium suitcase. Opening it up revealed three Crystals (Green, Black and Red) in designated slots with a few other slots as well, though they were empty.

"Let's bring 'em in," Dominic said, closing the suitcase and heading off towards the trails.

As Jade, David and Aurora interacted with one another, a portal appeared from across the way that spewed out a miniature horde of the silver foot soldiers that looked similar to the one that was attacking the mall as well. Once they were settled onto the trail, walkers and runners began scurrying away in every direction as an attack ensued! Suddenly, their attention shifted to the three people standing in front of them as the soldiers at the head of the pack pointed the socket plug shaped staff towards them and then proceeded to lead way.

As Dominic walked up, suitcase in hand, he noticed the people running past him and towards their cars.

"Don't tell me... Shockbots..." he said quietly, jogging up to glance around the corner seeing what was happening. The Shockbots were approaching the trio of people when Dominic identified the man first.

His initial target: David Varela... and was that? Jade Taylor? The plan was to just approach David about Project Ranger, but with Jade there as well, this was going to be even better. She hadn't been in the city for nearly a decade. Two former Rangers. His attention shifted to the other woman that he was unfamiliar with. She definitely wasn't in the Ranger files that the project had, but perhaps she could be of use if she was able to survive the Shockbot attack.

Lee had struck a soldier with a graceful flourish of his new plug pole, when something caught the corner of his eye. It was a glow. A very pretty, very pink glow. He turned just in time to see a pink crystal coming right at him. “Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god-“

The crystal spun around him, before zipped straight to his wrist and snapped into a Morpher. And then… Pink light burst around him. His clothes disappeared, and in their place was pink dino armor.

When the light faded, Lee looked down at himself, turned his hands over, then looked up at Sam, whose had turned into the blue version. Lee blinked. “Oh. my. God. I LOOK AMAZING!” He did a twirl and struck a pose. “I hate that this helmet hides my beautiful face, but this outfit totally slays.” He paused, then added, “Tell me I’m not the hottest Pink Ranger in history. Or… don’t. I already know.”

Lee was still admiring himself, when he heard Charlie explain that their weapons appeared by just thinking about it. He gasped. “Oh my god, it’s like a magical girl anime!”

He held up his hand dramatically and closed his eyes. “Okay… Think pink. Think power. Think fabulous.” A brilliant flash of light burst in his hand, then a saber appeared in his hands. Similar to the one Charlie had, but pink!

“This is beautiful!” Lee gave the saber another twirl, and then spun on his heel to face the remaining plug soldiers. “Alright, who wants to get fabulous?”

One of the bots charged at him. Lee gracefully sidestepped with a twirl, spun on his heel. “PINK SABER STRIKE!” he shouted, as if announcing a finishing move in an anime. He slashed diagonally with a dramatic spin, trailing a streak of shimmering pink energy behind the blade. As the saber connected, the soldier sparked violently, stumbling backward before exploding.

Lee struck a pose immediately after, saber raised high and free hand on his hip. “You just got served. By the Pink Ranger!” He quipped as he blew a kiss.

Jade still had to calm herself internally. The ghosts of her past, the same ghosts that claimed her sanity for almost a decade, they were clinging to her like they still controlled her the day she lost Parker...the day they all lost Parker. The day that Sam lost a brother and the day the team was never the same again. She tried to reclaim herself as much as she could but being back here, in this town, and hearing footsteps behind her, the memory was too great. Even though it ended up being nobody but a very pretty girl with dark curls, a camera, and the relieved look that Jade didn't clock her into kingdom come, she still was...afraid.

What if she wasn't healed? What if all this time away hadn't done anything but even more afraid? She promised she would never fight willingly again. But maybe that's who she was born to be.

"Jade?"

The voice made her entire body tense up. Not here, of all places. I'm not ready.

David. Jade looked at her old friend and former ranger teammate. He's gotten bigger. Not in the height sense because she remembered he was always tall, even back then, but the weight he put on — mostly muscle, from the looks of it — it looked good on him. Like it fit him like a glove. Like he was born to look the way he does.

Seeing David here, she had to wonder if Charlie was still around.

"I didn't think I would either." She admitted. The real answer somewhere in the half-conviction, half-pained dim gleam in her eyes. "Figure I should make it for at least one of my uncle's birthdays." And in, truth, that was one of the reasons she did decide to come back. She wished she could openly talk about why she really came back, but despite all the pain that came being with it, at one point she was a ranger. The first rule of being a ranger was never reveal your identity and since they were here next to someone who wasn't—

—If I'm interrupting something...I can just get out of here?—"

"no, don't leave." There was a sense of urgency in her voice. Maybe she didn't want to be alone with David, but the simple answer was that what right did she have to interrupt someone's hobby because she ran into someone she wasn't ready to talk to yet? She turned to David. "Sorry, just...wasn't ready for this yet. I didn't even set foot back into Angel Grove yet. I was hoping to take my time before—"

And as if on cue with the theme of things that Jade wasn't ready to deal with, a firm reminder of her past came back to haunt her, javelin in hand and all. "No no no no no no.... Jade's breathing became labored and shortened. Her heart was being faster and faster and it was like the world around her was growing dizzy. She could feel herself grow weak. Whether it was from the sight of those...things again or if it was the memory their forms came with, she couldn't ground herself. Seeing them, at some part of her mind, she knew she had to do something or prepare herself for it, but all she could think of was—

You're not seriously going to lose it now are you? A voice echoed in her mind.

She knew it. She knew it but it wasn't real. That voice was...

I know I trained you better. Those things are back but you are the black ranger, Jade Taylor. David is here he won't let you down but more importantly, there is someone who doesn't know how to fight that needs you.

Jade shook her head. Parker was right. Even if this was just her subconscious trying to kick her ass back into shape or something mystical...maybe the Morphing Grid? Ah, who cares at this point. Jade doesn't care if it was some ghost of her past, some lingering energy in the air that triggered her subconscious to speak in Parker's voice. Jade knew what she needed to do. She and David were the experienced ones here. The cute photographer needed them.

"David!" Jade called to him. "Just like how we used to do it." There was an instinct of Jade's where she reached behind her back...where her morpher would be. Where she kept the power crystal she used to have. Right. Not there. Oh well.

Jade took a fighting pose but different than how the photographer saw. Jade felt herself sink back into her old ways. Her breathing had slowed and gone back to normal, but it was the way she took a stance. Her body was on her side, left arm at her center and bent, right arm curved in a diagonal over her heart and her eyes glared with a pride she hadn't felt in a decade.

"I come back after a decade hoping to repair the bridges that were burnt and you decide to ruin that for me?" Jade sighed, almost angrily. "Well here's a shocker for you! We defeated you pile of nuts and bolts before and we'll do it again." Jade, ever the reckless one, didn't wait for them to strike first. She always believed that these things needed to be dealt with quickly, so Jade took to a run and slid on the ground. As she neared the one on the far left, Jade lept forward, balancing off her hands and twisting, locking her legs onto the head of one and slammed it on the ground pile driver side, then twisted again landing on her knee. "David! Like before!"

Sam couldn't believe his eyes. He legitimately thought he was hallucinating when he saw Charlie's discarded backpack glow. This couldn't be happening, could it? His doubt was quickly answered when two bullet-like Power Crystals came shooting out through holes they made themselves. He still didn't believe it was happening until the blue crystal spun around him before landing on his left wrist and turning into a Watch Morpher. It really was happening. Before he could celebrate Sam found himself being transformed against his will or permission into the Blue Dino Ranger. "Don't cry." He mumbled to himself. "It'll be embarrassing." He definitely wanted to. He had been wishing for this moment for as long as he could remember, but it wasn't the same without Andre. He wanted them to be on the team together. His brother may not have been here, but he wasn't alone. He would've never thought he'd be able to become a Power Ranger with Lee and Charlie. In a way he was still doing this with family.

Sam couldn't help but laugh at Lee's excitement and comment on his appearance. "Just don't go proclaiming that around a woman in all black named Jade." He didn't know about Jade's feelings for Parker, but knew that the two were very close and the latter's death hit the former as hard as Andre's death hit him. "But it suits you."

Sam turned his attention back to Charlie as she explained how their new powers worked. Summoning a weapon with just a thought was wicked cool and it took everything in him not to geek out over it. He closed his eyes and summoned his Dino Saber. The jagged edges of the blade made him feel like he was Inosuke in Demon Slayer. Sam looked at the plug pole that was in his other hand and had a crazy idea that he wasn't even sure would work. Taking inspiration from Charlie combining her weapons he decided to see if he could do the same. Sam placed his Dino Saber against his plug pole and closed his eyes to concentrate on what the combined version of these weapons would look and be like. He had a feeling that these bots were somewhat connected to the Grid and if they were this should work. It couldn't have been a coincidence that they showed up here after all this time. As if responding to his will and desire the two weapons erupted in a flash of blue light and once it faded Sam only held one weapon. The sword turned into a third prong turning his plug pole into a trident with the saber extending further than the other two prongs.

A devious grin crept on Sam's face under his mask. He lifted his Dino Trident into the air and yelled, "BY THE POWER OF THE MORPHIN GRID... I HAVE THE POWER!!!" As if the Dino Trident was reacting to his words, electricity surged around the three prongs. He turned the new weapon towards the trio of soldier bots heading his way and released the electrical energy that was just waiting for the opportunity to let loose. Each beam hit their respective targets directly in their chests causing them to explode into pieces. "Wow. I'm going to love this."

Jade was the last person David expected to see today, and right now, right in front of him was her. After ten years and thinking she had left Angel Grove for good, here she is. Jade, the same blonde-haired woman he remembered from years ago. Though she looked thinner than when he last saw her and he did not know if he should be concerned or not. But nothing else changed as far as he could tell.

David felt both surprised and excited at seeing an old friend after so long. Even if Charlie was still in town, he had not had much interaction with her since the ranger days. So seeing someone from his past was a breath of fresh air, and his day had unexpectedly become a great one.

But, when she spoke, he could see the small pain in her eyes, and he tried to take it slow, and he also did not want to ruin this meeting with her. "Your uncle, I think I remember him, and I hope he is doing well." To be honest, David has forgotten who her uncle was and his name, but he just played along. He is not going to try and push her buttons about things. This is on her terms, not his right now.

So David did not object when Jade asked the stranger to stay. However, he did feel like this conversation between old friends should be personal, and she was not needed. But Jade wanted her here so he would not say anything, at least right now, about it. "That is no problem, we can talk about this..."

Then things took a turn as David heard the sounds panicked screaming and people running. He turned to face the reason behind it, and beside seeing people running past them. David could see what was behind the panic, and he stubbornly held back the urge to swear. "Monsters here?" He exclaimed as he could not believe his luck. The first time meeting and talking to an old friend like Jade, and it gets ruined by fricking killer robots. So it seems like his great day has now turned sour. What twisted luck he had today, he thought as he was thinking of asking Jade if she wanted to fight this.

David did not need to ask, as he heard her call to him and spring into action. David just had a big smile on his face as he watched her take down a bot. She still had the fight in her, he thought happily, and got into his own fighting stance. "Just like the old days," David said under his breath. But before joining the Jade, he turned his head to the stranger. "Get out of here, it is not safe."

Then, without saying another word, David joined the fray. Locking on to the near bot near Jade with a running start. He performed a flying neck takedown, jumping and grappled a bot with his legs and using his momentum to bring it to the ground, while he landed on his feet and stomped the bot on his head. "Just like before," saying it to her not with mockery but with clear respect. Just like the rangers days, he thought.

"No, don't leave."

Well, there went her formed escape plan from this awkward situation because there was no way with the undertone of urgency in her voice that she would be able to abandon Jade now without feeling incredibly guilty. It was clear the two had a serious conversation which needed to be discussed, the man clearly looking like he wanted her to leave but wasn’t willing to push it so now she was an unknown buffer for these two since Jade didn’t sound ready for whatever their private conversation would entail. How did she always end up in the unluckiest situations? She hadn’t even been here more than a handful of days and already in the midst of drama. At least it probably couldn’t get worse, right? Oh, how very wrong she was because it seems the universe had taken that thought as a challenge, screams filling the air as people rushed away.

Aurora slowly turned around, eyes widening at the portal that was creating access for monsters she had never seen but were definitely familiar with when looking up the history to Angel Grove but she had thought that era was over now. ”What in the freak show…”, Rory muttered quietly to herself before she quickly turned her attention back to the other two. However, she paused, her voice catching as concern flitted over her features at Jade’s labored breathing and haunted expression. It was clear she was having some kind of adverse reaction to these things‘ presence which made her thought of encouraging them all to leave impossible. Aurora stepped a bit closer, worried that the other woman might be having a full blown panic attack but as she reached out to help keep her stable and ground her back to the present or work through a breathing exercise, Jade seemed to relax a bit before giving a shake of her head and focusing back on the situation.

"David! Just like how we used to do it."

At least she had a name to go with the face of the man with them but her confusion was continually growing. Who on earth were these two? “Used to do it?”, she questioned more to herself than either of them which was probably for the best as Jade rushed forward to attack, clearly a skilled acrobatic fighter with a healthy fueling of anger behind those hits for some extra hmph. It was actually quite spectacular to watch but the comments made at the monsters were what was really intriguing. What had she meant by they had defeated them before and they would do it again? There were dots she wasn’t quite connecting here and ones she wasn't sure if she should. It wasn’t long before David was called into the fray by Jade to join in the fight and it seemed like he meant to answer the call if the ‘Just like the old days.’’ muttered under his breath was any indication.

It was in that moment that she received her first true acknowledgement from David but only for it to be a command spoken for her safety before taking off to fight in a brawler like fashion and leaving her to play damsel in distress. ”To hell with that…”, Rory huffed while pulling off the strap of her camera from around her neck, shrugging off her backpack in a smooth motion before placing the expensive equipment inside. It was placed on the forest floor before she rolled up her sleeves, getting prepared for a fight. It had been awhile since she had gotten into a scuffle and knowing she didn’t have to hold back was almost a thrilling thought. She sprinted forward at full speed, leaping up to roughly slam her fist into the robotic foot soldier's face but gave it no grace period to fully react because she locked her hands together to add more supported force to her elbow to jab into its gut to force a bend. Rory took the opportunity to sweep out its feet from under it, stomping down as it hit the ground before looking over at the other two with a bright grin. ”You guys didn’t think I would let you have all the fun, did you?”, she teased playfully, skipping backwards to avoid a weaponed attack against her.
