I know I've been around various RP sites and servers for as long as I could write, basically. Might be the same for a lot of you all here too. Which means many years and many, many different characters have probably come and gone in all that time. Even if you've only just started roleplaying as a hobby, I'm sure there's characters that you've grown attached to in that way as well.

So! Who was your first truly memorable RPC?

The earliest one I remember was way back when I was a wee-babe Zweit trolling around RP chatrooms. A spunky half-demon thief character named Ryo, with long braided hair being her only consistent physical characteristic. Possibly inspired by too many YuYu Hakusho reruns. Ryo didn't have a story of her own, but was adventurous enough to plug into almost any fantasy group RP. Sometimes a friend, sometimes a foe, equally as prone to leaving her companion's pockets empty as she was in stealing from the enemy.

I've still got mine around, but she's changed so much since the original days.

My first charrie I remember well was a Bleach arrancar (if I remember the term correctly) who was an underling of Szyal Apporo (sp? The pink haired crazy scientist dude) who broke away and freed herself from his service and wandered the wastelands of Hueco Mundo as both her humanoid form and as a velociraptor. I used to bring her around in the old forum chatboxes and because I was young and silly then, she'd magically have a chainsaw and chase other characters around whenever I'd feel hyper.

I'm still young and silly, just not in that way anymore.

She evolved over the years into something different - the second twin spawned from an angel/demon pairing, a scientist and strategist that tries to keep her twin out of trouble or clean up the messes. She's married to a special forces detective and part of a division that hunts down mutants. She has her own ability of seeing the memories tied with objects, and uses it to see through the eyes of criminals and to help predict their next move.

I use the twins as characters in Dragons Dogma. Oddly, they fit really well. The Arisen going off and getting into stupid situations and has to be saved by their Pawn is basically the same relationship the ladies have anyway.

While this is a more updated version of my first OC, I'll give a brief description about him.

He's a tall and slender demon with flowing white hair. He wears a black trench coat and a wide brimmed hat. Beneath his coat is a mixture of flesh and clockwork-like mechanisms. His face is always hidden behind a porcelain white mask with a sadistic grin on it. I made it so his hands could be taken off and replaced with a variety of weapons. He really only used bladed weapons.

I based him off of a wide variety of horror movie monsters, mostly Blade from Puppet Master, Freddy Krueger, and Pinhead.

He's technically my first anti-hero OC.

He's changed a lot over the years, but I still enjoy dusting him off from time to time.

My very first memorable original character has morphed nicely over the years. His name's Nick. I know, unoriginal... but he's a boring human! He's lived rent free in my head for 25 years. Myspace didn't even exist yet. Aol chat rooms were prominent at the time, if you had access to a computer with dial up. And then again, I would have been much too young to use them at the time.

Nick's a hotheaded gunslinger, an enthusiastic survivalist, an archeologist who absolutely hates mummies, but most importantly? He's a perpetual adventurer... A male counterpart that I originally used when dealing with Tomb Raider puzzles. I'd get frustrated with Lara's shenanigans after awhile. So I'd go take a break from the game, only to still be running around that level in my headspace a short time later. Lara always felt too perfect to me and I'm FTM. So, I'm assuming this is why I ended up with my favorite little snot of a guy.

Indiana Jones did inspire him, as well as a few others. Nathan Drake didn't exist yet, but Gex and James Bond certainly did! Over the years, other inspiration has absolutely been pulled from for not only Nick, but the world he lives in. John Wick, Milla Jovovich, and honestly too many others to list. He's not necessarily the greatest or most original character I've ever made, but he sure as hell is my favorite.

Thankfully, there are roleplayers here who don't mind if you work a premade oc into a story. This has allowed me to further character build for him in an rp setting, and I'm loving it! And of course, if you're curious to read about his adventures further, Dark Beyond: Voices of the Past. Action adventure ftw! And to keep myself from rambling endlessly, I'll stop now. p:

P.s. I'm a 90s kid, so yes, he's named loosely after Nick Carter.

Oh man, my most memorable OC was probably Klara, back in my middle school years. She was an alpha of a werewolf pack. She was stubborn and stuck in her ways. She didn't take a mate for the longest time until an unknown wolf came into her midst. He was charming and clever, content to let her run her pack as she always had. They had a child together named Cain and she eventually died defending him from an attack by hunters.

She's come back in a few iterations throughout the years but never as long as her first run.

My first OC that I remember, or the first one that I remember being good?

Because starting-out I was in a nation-RP... and if the nation was an OC... Helghan Bad company in the Metal-Gear franchise/strangereal universe... without having ever played any of those games... You'd think those three things wouldn't mash-up well in 2005, but...

And yes, I do remember the characters made for that, and how each of them died. At some point they got hired to defend a pope... right before he declared a crusade, plunging the region in a global thermonuclear war.

Mine was also a half-demon.

His name was Aleksandr. and he looked more like Ashitaka from Princess Mononoke -- down to the gloves, large cloak, and some purple crystal dagger hanging around his neck. There were some stylistic differences as I described him in written word, but the inspiration was there. He specialized in Tavern Medieval/Fantasy games on Neopets.

My best friend at the time and also the person who introduced me to online role plays, would play some short elf girl named Ova who followed Aleksandr around ruthlessly, to his embarrassment. Ova was very outspoken, loud, and obnoxious while he was more of a mysterious, brooding-type. It was a fun time.

Too many demons, not enough rogues. My first character (that i remember) was Trygon, a rogue mostly that I used in D&D enviroments. He was a little on the... unstable side. Trygon would always wear a black coat with hood, and well-worn pants. His preffered weapon was daggers. And thats it, i think.

Guess it depends on whose memory we're talking about. I wouldn't know who remembers any of my older characters without me prompting them of it.

So far as my memory, a character named Glyde would be the first one that I can remember the whens and wheres of his origins. He started as a Pokémon trainer in a more manga-inspired Pokémon RP (actual violence and such) in 2009. But that RP ended with little impact on his part, mostly because I was traveling when the RP concluded (in an age w/ out smartphones and data plans and wifi everywhere). Eventually I shifted gears and adapted him into Kingdom Hearts character, classing a sort of marksman-mage hybrid, which is the concept that has stuck with him through every following iteration.

That would be ÏvĂȘrrĂ ÓlfwĂ«-ÍdĂšrrĂ€, a northern wild elf who spoke maybe twenty words of Common, learned from traders after the amber her tribe would collect. Several shrunken goblin heads hanging from their hair were tied to her saddle horn, each still animated, their souls bounded to the chunk of amber inside. One would sort-of translate for her.

I am sure I had some memorable characters from my middleschool/high school days, but most of those are a haze to me. I think the first memorable character I made, the one that makes you give a chefs kiss and want to use them again somewhere else, is my frequent dnd character I play: Durge Blackboot.

Originally, I called him Dirk (I was on a biiiiiig Homestuck rage during my senior year of high school) I picked durge just because I thought Dirge sounded cooler but just happened to spell it wrong. Backstory is always the same: A half-orc raised by the blackboot tribe, Orcs from a sort of wetland/swamp, usually in the north. They get greedy and attack a nearby road until people retaliate and nearly wipe them out.

Durge is out trying to make money for his family. They've relocated and are licking their wounds. It's a fairly standard character, all things considered, but it's delightfully fun to play. I always felt his orc family could be some moral complexity to the character, too. His people are raiders. Is it right for him to help them? I originally played him as a weird multiclass build, trying to fish for big crits. It was baaaaad, and so was that game. I later played him as Durge v1, now as a battlemaster fighter, which is ironic because this version of him kept getting his but kicked by a wandering duelist. Last time I played him he was a paladin, which, while I enjoy paladins, he simply did not act like one.

He was always missing teeth, had a screwed-up nose from breaking it so often, covered in scars. Big burly guy, but just on the taller end of humans, closer to 6'5 ot so. He always had long, shaggy hair that really needed to be cleaned/combed. He was a pretty rugged guy, but kind overall, if a bit simple. As a guy who writes all the time, I kept using big words, which had people in character asking 'where did you learn that?' or 'wow, wasn't expecting that' so I started making him smarter than he acts. Not that he's some genius but he purposefully plays a little dumb to seem less dangerous to the people he would probably eat if he got hungry enough.

Overall, I liked playing him because he was a tough enough guy to see him fail. More often than not, his sheer endurance was what made him stand out. A Dirk, he beat Domn, a paladin with some lucky crits, and he always just completely floundered in his rivalry with that duelist, and as a paladin, he all but single-handedly took on a veritable army of goblins while the other players didn't engage.

I've made several different characters over the course of the nearly 20 years I've been roleplaying (I know, I'm old.).. but only three come to mind when I think of ones that stand out and truly mean something to me. My Romanian-descent demigod character Tyler James Rumancek, and later on, his two sons Nikolas ("Niko") Kanan and Aurelio ("Reli") Mihai.
