Augh, sand... Using a cane on it is just the worst... It doesn't make much noise, it's grainy and soft, so you don't get any friction or proper feel, and it's really hard to notice bumps or dips unless you do the continuous sweep - and that's also hard, because your cane doesn't roll across sand like on pavement or dirt... >_<
I hate walking on sand with my cane. :(
Poor Ryuuichi.

EDIT:

And Tilly's now back with the gang.

Yeah, Ryuuichi is gonna have a hard time walking about in general, but on the beach especially. Hopefully the forest won’t be too hard on him~

Also there is a chance that the Rotom Phone may not come with him based on what Lina said to it.

So he could actually be just on his own and have an even harder time. Still waiting to confirm with Savo on that actually.

EDIT: Also you use a cane? If you don’t mind me asking?

Yep, I suffer form Retinitis Pigmentosa, a degenerative, incurable eye-condition. It, effectively, makes you blind either REALLY fast, or slowly over time. I've got the latter type.

I usually mostly use my cane for when I go to places I'm unfamiliar with, as I can still see. So i can navigate my neighbourhood well enough. But if I go somewhere I'm not used to being, or go out during poor light conditions (or when it's TOO bright), I hafta use my cane to avoid walking into other people and stuff.

Oh jeeze. That sounds rough. Is there any way they can slow down the progress with medicines or other such things?

Also I thought about how hard a cane might be to use on different surfaces, but didn't realize all that extra detail about the evenness or roughness of surfaces and other such things. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. That's definitely good to know moving forward with this character.

I am curious if Tilly would have gone with Ryuuichi had the Rotom Phone not been there?

There is currently no medicine or surgery that can do anyhting for Retinitis Pigmentosa, as it's a condition where the "yellow spot" in your eye keeps "falling apart". And modern medicine can't fix/stop that, really.

And you're welcome. To be specific, the two ways you usually use a cane is:

Tapping: What Ryuuichi is doing is the usual method of walking around in crowded or populated areas. The tapping is more meant to cause noise and draw peoples' attention to the user, so they can get out of the way or be aware that a person with bad eyes is around.

Sweeping: Rolling the cane across the ground infront of you, in a back-and-forth arc/pendulum motion, is done to get more information out of the ground infront of you, and make you notice things like pavement ledges, dips/holes in the grounds or where there're crosswalks and the like.

And yes, if Ryuuichi hadn't had the Rotom with her, chances are she might've gone up and checked on him.

EDIT:

And awww, the Ralts is really cute. :3

@Xaltwind

Glad you liked the Ralts <3

She is gonna be vastly different from her (soon to be) Trainer in many ways.

And yea, Ryuuichi would know the basics about how to use his cane, but he is also really bad at it thanks to his shut in lifestyle. Aside from the practice he did during his rehabilitation, he never actually went out all that much once he was allowed to go back home. He's only ever really been to his doctor's in the past two years after his physical rehab and during those times his (perhaps somewhat too overprotective) took him there directly.

As such, he tends to just kinda use Tapping alot. He might Sweep every now and again, but he mostly just taps since he is... very paranoid about hitting anybody or anything. Even if using that method given the situation might be the wrong one and might put him in more danger given the lack of appropriate information.

Alright, decided to post. But Victor technically would not leave Fantasia when left with her. So this post is all stuff from after he's relieved from that, heh.

Also, I don't remember everything I've read, poke me if you think there's something I forgot that I should have reacted to.
