Beginnings...

In just one moment everything can change for ever.

You were just like everybody else, sure you thought you were different or unique in your own certain way, that was up untill the 'event' where things truly changed for you. Now you really are something special.
But your not the only one... Others have changed too and in different ways.
Can they be trusted?

That's not all that has been changing... It's in the air, written in the prophecies, foretold in the tea, DARK days are coming.
The unnatural is slowly becoming the normal.

What will you do now? Where will you go?
Do you seek the answers of these mysterious origins, maybe search for solace with simarly gifted people?
Or do reasons and answers hold little interest now you have powers. Do you seek to indulge and enjoy your new abilities, to make the most of life and live it to its fullest.

Once fate (the GM) has bestowed your new powers upon you, it is completely up to you what you do next. You can heed the warning you were given or even try take over the world. (But let's not get too silly) times are changing though. (Not giving anything away yet.)
As a mostly sandbox game it will be up to you to interact with others and develop into your given powers. The GM and CO GM's will offer assistance, guidance and occasional events with the odd major event every so often that will reshape the game!

The 'Event'...

...that changed the world.

It has been called 'the event' but those effected know it to be more than just one single phenomena caught in a single moment of time.
No one knows exactly how it all first started, or when and why... The incident didn't seem to be contained to just one location either.

The first recoded unexplainable occurrence was on January 21st 2020. A human flying through the air unassisted. It was dismissed as an elaborate Hollywood promo stunt. Next the Internet exploded with things like worlds strongest girl, lifting weights equal to professional male athletes.
These sorts of videos continued for a while, some possibly true, many undoubtedly hoaxes. They ranged from simple magic to dangerous elemental stuff, even reaching into the realms of spooky supernatural.
If it wasn't for the many witness accounts none of it would have held much merit. Soon deaths of young kids followed as they tried to imitate or out do these popular and extreme videos.

Despite the negative publicity some video sharing hosts began making A LOT of money. But regardless, slowly these videos started to dwindle, vanishing from the Internet and the then the craze seemingly died down. All in a matter of months.

Appearance

Roughly 6 foot in height with a relatively solid frame, topped with a head of barely kept brown hair and some brown eyes. Fairly average overall. Wears gloves to hide his red right hand.

Personality: Stephan appears almost completely carefree, practically jovial, willing to talk to anyone and everyone, but he obeys the rules and is nice to people on principle, despite being something of a habitual liar. People who know him well know that he doesn't lie to hurt people, but to those that don't, he can seem a little off putting. Stephan can get pretty touchy, as in physically touching people, but there's a measurable emotional distance in the way he carries himself. Despite his carefree appearance he's careful enough most of the time, although he tends to be a little looser when he's having fun. Stephan's Not exactly a fighter, but he has good reflexes, is adaptable, and can keep in his head in most situations. Not a particularly fastidious person, and he never keeps grudges for long.

Biography: Born as the child of a typical middle-class family, the second of 3 children, Stephan adopted his role accordingly - he took up the mantle of a good kid. Not falling for certain traps like his older brother, not waiting for things to be handed to him like his younger sister, he did what he was told and followed the rules, avoiding trouble and generally being a pleasant person. Fast forward a little while and Stephan's in university, with plenty of friends and on his way to a law degree, with a bright future ahead of him - and now he was more bored than ever. Over time he'd realised that it was almost too easy to get what he needed by being patient, and the selfish impulses he'd pushed down as a child no longer weighed him down. He found himself unamused by anything around him. What he really wanted, more than a solid future, was something interesting.

Then he incident happened. It came to Stephan like an answer in a dream, only he woke up to find the dream was real. He woke up to chaos, with strange beasts he'd never seen before and the message that he would have to fight someone or other. The momentary fear of the unknown gave way to an odd feeling of joy. Sure, there were going to be people out to kill him, but for the first time in a while, he was facing something new, and he was excited to see what would happen.

Biography: Sam is just a normal guy, and up until he got his powers he thought he'd just live his life, do nothing of any real significance, and die. He works as a city bus driver during the day, at night he goes home to his apartment, eats dinner, plays video games, and tries to pretend he's normal. But he's not normal, not anymore, and in his heart he knows that. Some nights (most nights nowadays) he drives up to a cottage his family owns just half an hour out of the city. It's a big patch of land in the middle of nowhere, perfect for trying to train his new abilities. With this new life at some points it's kill or be killed, so even if he doesn't like it he has to deal with his new fate. He tries to keep a low profile, Sam just wants to live his life, is that so much to ask?

Demon Princess

Name: Himeko Arslan
Alias: Demon Princess [Given to her way before she had powers]
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Appearance: She has brown hair and sea green eyes. She stands at a height of 5'7" with an athletic build. Usually found in a jacket and cargo pants. Her hands are always covered in bandages and she would sometimes slip on protective hand gear. She can be usually be seen with a pretty durable bokken. She also has a knife strapped on her right leg near her boot.
Biography: Himeko's history is quite sad to be honest. Born into a dysfunctional family with her parents always arguing with each other and hurting each other, she grew up seeing violence. She would also be beaten repeatedly by both her mother and her father when they have had enough of beating each other. She was never sent to school and was always locked up in her room - nearly starved, everyday. One day, she had managed to escape her parents and decided that the street was a much better place. She was picked up by this nice old man who taught her how to read and write, gave her a place to stay and fed her until she looked normal and was then sent to a school.
Unfortunately, Himeko got tired of the pampered life quite quickly - seeking the first thing she knew, violence. She requested to get involved in martial arts. The man obliged - enrolling her in a mixed martial arts dojo and she learned rather quickly... and violently. She enrolled herself in a kendo dojo to learn more about that. At the mere age of 15, she started going to fights at night - gang wars and the like. With knowledge in mixed martial arts and kendo, she grew increasingly infamous within the gang community. By the age of 17, she was bestowed the name 'Demon Princess' and few dare to cross her. Though, her thirst for violence had long since died down and now simply enjoys the occasional fights. People think that the demon within the princess has died down. But for her, it was simply dormant. The old man had died of heart attack and his fortune was carried over to her. Finding it hard to keep up revenue as the funds grew smaller, she dropped out of school and began working part-time in a family restaurant that gave her free meals thanks to her conditions. At night, she would live at this club whose owner she knew and trusted. She doesn't partake in the partying, the drinking, the smoking or the drugs - simply just there to live.
Himeko was in a club when everything became chaotic. She wasn't sure what happened. The next thing that she remembered was waking up to the club in shambles. They quickly got everything back in order though. And she figured out that she had powers. Cool, she thought. That's when she received the call. Others, like her? Eliminate? Survive? Words that were already ingrained in here mind. Though, it seems unlike street fighting, she had to kill. That was one taboo in her community, but one she must commit to survive. Though she did want to know what happened, so she set out. She found some others with powers who didn't want to kill and others who were more than happy to do so, those she brought down.
Personality: Himeko is a pretty chill character now. Not at all like her previous bloodthirsty self who only sought to fight for the rest of her life. After the death of the old man, she started considering how her life will go from there. Despite only being a high school graduate, she is quite smart and is able to pick things up quickly. Though she is more street smart than book smart. She has no qualms with resorting to violence and beating anyone to an inch of their life - killing doesn't bother her much either. She can easily lie through anything and rarely feels guilt - or fear.

Others: She was adopted by the Arslan family. Himeko does not know this nor does she know who her real parents are or why they put her up for adoption.

Appearance:

Due to her albinism, Cori is almost always given a second glance. Her extremely fair complexion and white hair is stunning to say the least. Vanilla, she may look sickly to those who don't understand why she looks the way she does, but she is very conscientious of her appearance: her makeup adds a healthy color to her face and darkness to her lips and eyelashes. Her haunting red eyes are almost always hidden behind stylish sunglasses, partly to protect them against the sun, but also because she's self conscious about the strange color. She stands tall for a woman at 5'8", and she has a lean, boyish figure. Her clothes only compliment her complexion and a single article of her clothing is likely worth 10x your entire outfit.

Personality:

Cori makes a point to put appearance above almost all else. So long as it seems like she knows what she's doing, she pretty much knows what she's doing. Needless to say, when she's unsure about something, she'll take a chance and give her thoughts in an attempt have some control over what's going on. She doesn't like looking weak or unintelligent in front of other people and enjoys considering herself independent. She comes off as very serious to most people and generally humorless; she tends to carry herself as if she's better than most people. This gives her an air of arrogance and intimidation that is backed by a sharp tongue at people who irritate her. Despite her bad attitude, she's very caring and generous to the people around her. If you need help, she won't hesitate to offer a hand even if she comes off as reluctant to do so. She at the very least knows right from wrong, but tends to give into class and society viewpoints, preferring to stick to the status quo than vouch for underdogs.

Biography:

Cori is an heiress, through and through. Her life can be peeked at by keeping up with tabloids and magazines. Her mother is a (retired) renowned model, and her father the CEO of Woods Co., an interior design business that caters to only the richest and most beautiful people. Branching from the company are various fashion lines, as well. She recently graduated college early (with Honors as Valedictorian, nbd), but that's not something tabloids are interested in. What the public does know is that she was handed a job by her father, and seems rather ungrateful: she doesn't seem to do much of the job instead choosing to drive fast cars and disappear to places no one can follow her. Maybe it's because of a boy?

Felicity Stark

Name: Felicity Stark
[In reference to her]“Don’t let the smile fool you, she’s ALWAYS smiling”
Age: 23
“Mercy or genocide, it’s up to you. However, as the consequences against those I love increase… you will answer to me.”
Personality: Felicity is rather laid back, often sleeping wherever and whenever, regardless of the time. Her laziness is a combination of fatalism and apathy. She wonders at times if her increase in indolence stems from her knowledge that there are other people out there with abilities. People who would be willing to do some… horrible things that could lead to the death of those close to her. She’d always been rather uncaring in everything she did but it only further increased when the horrible idea of horrible humans being given power became a reality. Is it even worth putting in the effort if everyone is going to just get fucked anyway? Can she even compete with some of the killers out there? Conversely, she suggests that this knowledge could be "a poor excuse for being lazy."[2]

Though Felicity is usually agreeable, she becomes eerily serious at particular moments. She is also observant; Felicity has always had the uncanny ability to read the someone’s expression and read their body language, being able to tell if their hiding something. She enjoys making bad puns and dumb knock-knock jokes, although the fact that she performs at a fancy lounge as a main act hints that she may be a talented comedian. Regardless of the cool, uncaring personality she demonstrates, she actually enjoys stuff like science fiction movies and even reads comic books showing off her geeky side. She also HATES making promises, believing that all promises had to be broken sooner or later and would rather not make the investment.

Biography: Felicity and her younger brother Michael were both left on the doorstep of an orphanage in New York when Felicity was 7 and Michael was 3. They both remained in the orphanage for years considering no one really wanted to adopt 2 children at the same time. And considering the siblings refused to be separated, it was difficult for them to be adopted for longer than 2-3 month intervals. With Felicity’s laziness and unwillingness to try mixed with Michael’s energetic and loud personality made them a headache to handle for the typical unprepared couple.

Eventually, Felicity turned 18 and was basically forced to leave. However, she would not leave without her brother. So, in the dead of the night, she grabbed her 14-year-old brother and ran away with him. They moved away to a different area of New York (Brooklyn) and found a small apartment for them to live in. (Felicity may or may not have been doing small jobs in her teenage years to be able to afford a small apartment.) She got a job at a popular lounge club as a stand-up comedian known for making crappy jokes that still made you laugh for how cheesy they were. And when her brother finished school, he decided to go to college considering he wants to be a chef. They aren’t gonna be partying like rockstars anytime soon, but they’re comfortable and won’t be going hungry anytime soon.

When Felicity got her powers, however, she didn’t really care much. As long as she could take care of her brother and still do her thing, she could care less about her powers. She may practice with them on the odd day but she still couldn’t care much. The only reason she cares even a little bit is due to her realization in regards to other people having powers. Growing up, she’d always had the worst opinions on humanity due to her experiences. So, with the idea of a bunch of other people having powers that are… who knows how strong? It makes it even more difficult for her to plaster on her usual smile and go on about her day, knowing that her having some sort of confrontation with another powered being was nearly imminent at this point.

Knowing the power only tells me whether or not to spend the effort to create my character.

If the power is not something I am willing to play with, then creating a character before finding out is a waste of time, and I avoid wasting my time as much as possible.

I'm currently in another superhero RP (The premises is different from this one, totally incidental XD) and my character has some abilities over sensory depravation? Up to 20ft (At the moment) she can created an area of soundlessness, and up to 15ft she can create an area of total darkness, cutting off sight and sound.

Something like that might work for this, it's pretty fun
