Out of curiosity, would our char HAVE to be able to use magic? Is it possible to be an otherwise normal human being who stumbled into all of this?

@Project Remember you have to choose two or three, cause just being able to move around quickly, etc, isn't gonna defend you from tougher mages. :P

I'm debating whether or not to allow you to pick the types of magic that your character will be able to use. I think if I pick them, or use a random number generator, it'll be more interesting and allow things to be a bit more balanced.

I'm also debating whether or not to add another school of magic that relates to charms and persuasion skills.

As of now, I'm only accepting one to two more people before I rely on inviting others into the RP.

In theory charm magic could be great fun, but it suffers the problem that it's pretty much save or suck to save or die. You can get singed by a fireball, but casting Dominate Person is a little binary and could get frustrating quickly. But that's just my two cents on the issue. Mind, illusions are fun :T.

...and I vote for random magic, but that's because I'm an asshole who likes creative constraints and wanted to play the guy who can't use magic anyway

@Tominas Charm magic was going to be described as using persuasion or charming people, much like how Jedis wave a hand and persuade one. Amateurs will mostly fail at this. But thinking about it, it does seem useless or rather annoying.

Looks like there's quite the crowd, but this RP seems right up my alley. If there's still room for one more, I'd be thrilled to whip up a character and tell a story with you all. The themes I see seem right up my alley, and I've always had a soft spot for modern fantasy.

Not sure if my opinion counts for much vis a vis random magic, but I've only got ideas that excite me for a few of the magical schools or possible permutations therein: if random magic were decided upon, I would probably just go for one of the non-magical possibilities I see for a character. I personally would chafe under randomness dictating my viewpoint character, but I definitely see where Tominas is coming from, and the other side of the argument.

Oh I see. Well, if it would be better for the plot I would do so even if it meant being forced to have a magical system, and therefore a central theme to the character, handed to me without my input. I don't want to be a bother, I just saw Tominas mention the possibility and thought it was open to others.

I honestly don't have any ideas worth giving at the moment, I haven't had time to flesh anything out or do any scratch planning. Give me a bit and I'll have something I'm at least not too ashamed of to share.

@PentagonWhite What I meant is that I'll assign different schools of magic your character can use through a random number generator. If you can't think of anything when I show you it, then you can ask for a reroll.

Ah I see. I gathered you'd be using a random number generator, but I didn't know there'd be any leniency if writers had difficulty with what they were handed. The prospect of rerolls as an absolute last resort makes me feel much more comfortable with the concept.

+1 being under the RNG's mercy. It would be cool to play a character that is forced to use magic that's against their morals / beliefs.

I'd be interested if there's room. My only question is the "anime pic" thing and what you're looking for. I'm not a huge anime person, but I've watched enough to know what it is.
