Welcome to Galactic Conquest!

THE STORY SO FAR

In a galaxy with unprecedented size has birthed numerous advanced space faring civilizations. While many have interacted either through war or trading, many civilizations have remained foreign to one another, perhaps only hearing of one’s existence through rumors or merchants who have traveled one end of the galaxy to the other. Because of the galaxy’s sheer size and almost seemingly numerous star systems, it also seemed like a foreign thought to actually want to travel the galaxy even with how advanced space travelling has come until now.

Regardless of your civilization’s history, what’s rumored to be the “Galactic Center” has always been a neutral and foreign place. While several small settlements have been established they compare nothing to the empires one could find in the various corners of the galaxy. For space travelers who dare travel to the galactic center speak of worlds with limited law and order and without a dominant force to keep things in check making the Galactic Center a perfect place for smugglers, criminals to hide out. Many refugees have also made the Galactic Center their own, escaping from whatever war consumed region they come from.

For countless years the Galactic Center has always been just another region of space with little value until now. For whatever reason, the Galactic Center has become a prime target for the various space empires to investigate and possibly take for their own and the threat of complete Galactic War has suddenly become very real.

GUIDELINES:

Setting: This is NOT a multiverse RP. Everything that is to take place, or has taken place has all happened in the same galaxy. Because of this galaxy's immense size, the factions in this RP will have limited interaction and limited knowledge of each other until now.

Plot: Your faction or if you choose to play a singular individual has just received information that the largely unexplored unknown region of space that has separated the factions has become important due to your choosing. Perhaps your faction is chasing a renegade band of rebels? Perhaps your faction seeks to recover ancient artifacts? While the RP won't solely take place in these territories, it will initially just for the sole purpose of having people encounter and interact with one another.

Magic Use: Magic is possible but its too be limited. If someone wants to play an alien species that can control fire, I'm all for it unless it gets to the point they start conjuring giant firestorms that swallow entire armies. The Force from Star Wars or Biotics from Mass Effect for example will fall under this category

Weapons/Metals/Etc: Each faction will have their own unique weapons and metals and so forth but there is no absolute, single best unstoppable weapon. Every faction will be able to affect each faction but lets also have some logic even if this RP is mostly sci-fi. A regular stick no matter what is not going to pierce a starship's hull that was designed to withstand plasma cannons

Teleportation: I'm all for portals/hyperspace/slipspace but again it needs to be handled properly. Because of the vastness of space, high speed travel is necessary for factions to be able to travel great distances but at the same time if people start pulling "All of a sudden Admiral X has 100 warships to appear behind Admiral Y Fleet with absolute no warning" we are going to have a problem.

Rules:

1. No random one shoting, killing people's character without permission. Simple enough

2. In regards to post length and how often, I'm going to be casual about this though I do want to see a reasonable effort that indicates interest

3. In regards to combat situation as they are bound to be plenty, I'm again leaving a lot of power in the hands of the players but lets be reasonable again even if this is sci-fi for example... a small snub fighter regardless of payload is not going to take on a 10 mile long warship by itself and win

4. Super Weapons are going to be a no for now. As it stands, I intend for massive capital ships to be the absolute peak in terms of military strength at the moment. While size isn't everything, size does indicate a certain amount of strength and while they may be the strongest in terms of possessing the most firepower, this means their slow speed, lack of ability to use stealth does give them vulnerabilities.

Eventually assuming things are going well, I like the idea of plots revolving around stopping a Death Star or assaulting High Charity or preventing Halo Arrays from being activated should a Halo faction exist... but for now, we will keep these stories on hold.

5. There are no invincible, resource unlimited factions. There are also no singular all powerful characters, everyone has limits

6. In regards to character creation you can create your own character, your own faction etc or you can take an existing one and put your spin to it HOWEVER be mindful of your history as they will deviate from films, movies, books etc depending on whose controlling the faction for example

Suppose player X wants to play Master Chief aka Spartan 117, his character's history will be dependent on player Y who has taken charge of the UNSC. If player Y decides that the events of Halo 4 or the Battle of Reach has not taken place player X must acknowledge this and adjust accordingly.

I'm also open for people to create their own ships, weapons, etc even if non existent in the previous lore but it has to make sense. The Galactic Empire developing a new super star destroyer? makes sense. The UNSC making a dance till your head explodes music gun? No.

7. This is not a competition, this for fun. While people may have their opinions on "who would actually win" this RP is not about that. I want to be flexible and relaxed so people can explore their imaginations and make stories of their own but please don't abuse this certain freedom.

There will be two templates. Should you make a faction template, you need to make one.

Now the question is do we put money on a lone black ops cruiser with less than a hundred souls aboard or the entirety of the Sith Order ...

A casual reminder for @caliban22, @Sophrus, and @Thecrash20 to come drop off your sheets. I'd hate for you bunch to miss out.

I keep hoping someone invokes the Imperium of Man because the Galactic Empire may be cannon fodder but the Imperium presents an interesting tactical problem to solve.

Not sure if I should make a faction or try to make characters for factions that others have made. Every faction needs its heroes.

Well someone's Hero is another's villain. I'm sure a Sith Lord can be considered a Hero to some while a mass murdering monster to others. Basically please someone make an asshole lol.

What faction interests you? I'm thinking of going with Asari Republics at the moment just need to write out the CS. Got all the details ironed out though.

Well the Alduuri as a civilization are assholes for two reasons:

- At one point humans tried to wipe them out. They hold a pretty big grudge still.
- The nebula in which they occupy takes up nearly the entire spiral arm. They believe the whole thing is their domain by a perceived divine right. Thus they have a pretty massive superiority complex.

What's kinda fun about that though is that it can get Muriel into trouble that normally could be avoided because that's just a cultural thing with them. No way around it. Whether I end up regretting that trouble later is usually 50/50. :P

@Hillbilly12

Well, every faction so far seems cool. Wouldn't be sure which faction to join, but I also wouldn't want to make a character that ruins the history of their faction.

As for a faction I'm thinking of creating, I'm thinking of what appears to be a planet sized hunk of liquid metal. However, it's actually liquid nanotech whose purpose is to convert all matter into itself. It uses its matter to form constructs to fight and such.

Faction Name: The Covenant

Faction Leader/Government:

Heads of State: The Hierarchs - Prophet of Truth, Prophet of Regret, Prophet of Mercy. These three are the Shepards that will illuminate the way to the Great Journey.

De facto leader: Prophet of Truth.
High Council: Consists of more than 200 Sang’heili & San’Shyuum, they lead the daily conduct of the Covenant. Military and Civilian operations.

Brief Description of Technology:
The Covenant technology is repeatedly referred to as more imitative rather than innovative. Their technology is based largely on mimicry and reverse-engineering of the leftover Forerunner artifacts they have discovered. In Covenant culture, there are religious laws set that prevent them from fully exploring what the Forerunners employed to create that technology. Their ships can enter slipstream space and travel faster than light. Most of the Covenant arsenal is plasma-based Directed Energy Weapons, however the Covenant are known to utilize pulse lasers, particle beam weapons, as well as antimatter and even chemical crystal-based weapons.

Types of beings that exist in your faction (All humans, mixed alien etc): The Covenant consists of various species that inhabit their corner of the wide-spread galaxy. The two leading species within the Covenant are The Sangheili and the San’Shyuum.
(The link provides an overlook over the other species: halo.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Covenant… )

Philosophy/Goals Etc:

The Covenant Empire is founded on and united by a single religion, based upon the worship of the ancient race of beings known as the Forerunners. According to the Covenant religion, the Forerunners, being nearly omniscient and all-powerful beings, discovered a method to transcend the physical world and achieve divinity.

To transcend like the Forerunners did, the Covenant have scoured their part of the Galaxy for centuries, desperately and zealously searching for the conduit which will bring forth the Great Journey. Through a recent discovery of a Forerunner database, the Prophet of Mercy believes that he will find a clue in the search within the Galactic Center. No one will stand in their way.

Brief History:

The Covenant formed 4 centuries ago, when the Sangheili and the San’Shyuum decided to end their warring and focus on the thing that truly mattered: The Great Journey. From there on, the Sangheili acted as the Military leaders of the Covenant, while the San’Shyuum led the leaders of State and Faith. Throughout their search and expansion, they have recruited various species. It has only been through faith and fear that these species have kept it together. There have been conducted genocides in order to keep the Peace within the Covenant.

But in the recent years, the High Prophets and the High Council have grown intolerant of outsiders, and are hostile. If an unknown species inhabit a world where there may be Forerunner technology, they are considered heretics, and must be purged. Those whom have defiled the Creator’s creations shan’t be granted a spot on the Great Journey, the High Prophets say. A great number of Sangheili are now starting to question the High Prophets, even some of the High Council shares doubts. Tensions are at an all-time high.

Through a recent discovery of a Forerunner database, the Prophet of Mercy believes that he will find a clue in the search within the Galactic Center. Which have eased some of the tensions, he only hopes the Covenant won’t fall until he has found the Conduit to the Great Journey. The Prophet of Truth have blessed Prophet of Mercy with an expeditionary fleet into the Galactic Center.

The Arbiter, Arath Nar’ Lodimee have been given the task to escort the Prophet of Mercy to the Galactic Center with a fleet of 50 warships and 25 support ships. He is to retrieve any Forerunner technology as possible, and if needed, terminate potential infestations on Sacred Grounds. The Prophets have christened this fleet with the name of; The Fleet of Pious Transgression.

Name: Arath Nar’ Lodimee

Title/Rank (if you have one): The Arbiter

Gender: Male.

Species: Sangheili.

Description:

Unique traits/Personality: The Arbiter is known to be ruthless and zealous in his devotion to the Prophets, and to the Great Journey. His entire life have been based upon an obsession to gain Ascendance into the Great Journey. He trusts no one, besides the Prophets, might even call him paranoid, not to his face however. The Arbiter feels himself to be superior, as he have been hand-chosen by the Prophets to be their Arbiter and to lead the search for the very artifact that shall bring upon the Great Journey.

Equipment: The Arbiter dons the traditional and mandatory suit that befits those of the Rank of an Arbiter at all times. The only time the suit comes off is the day he dies in the name of the Covenant. It is an older and less flexible suit than the equipment the normal Sangheili dons, but there’s no equal when it comes to endurance. He will withstand much more than the usual soldier will withstand. His weaponry consists mainly of his Energy Sword and a Carbine rifle, but he has adapted most of the arsenal of the Covenant throughout his military career and has no problem utilizing it.

He commands the fleet of Pious Transgression with his flagship: The Illuminated Consecration.

Brief Bio:

Before his rebirth as the Arbiter, he was born to an old and noble family of the Sangheili. On the planet of Sanghelios, the homeworld of the Sangheili. From the day he could walk, he was indoctrinated into the military ways of his species. He was destined to battle in the name of the Covenant, he was destined to die in the name of the Covenant. Arath was always at the top of his classes during the military academy, defeating every opponent that his instructors would send at him. It didn’t take long until he had his first command in clearing a sector of that was infested with a rogue species that had once been of the Covenant. It was there he gained his reputation as being a cruel and ruthless commander. No one of the enemy survived the cleansings he conducted towards their planets. No man, woman or children.

At the age of thirty five, he had gained the rank of shipmaster, but at the end of a five year campaign against the last remains of the rogue nation, he had ascended to the rank of Fleet-master. Few had of the age had seen such an efficient commander, or a more crueler devil that deposed of all that opposed the Truth of the Covenant. But his glorious military career reached an end when the patriarch of his clan, his elder brother, was found guilty of heresy. That meant the end of his family’s influence and status as nobility. It also meant that Arath had to be eliminated as Fleet-master, seeing as he shared blood with an infidel. The High Council sentenced him to death.

But the Prophets had other plans for him. They needed a man of his prowess to lead the search for a Forerunner database that could contain the secret for the Covenant’s ascendance, it was of outmost importance. To elevate him to the rank of Arbiter meant that his death sentence was postponed, for some time. Arath, as a person, died when he accepted the role he was given, and was reborn as The Arbiter. With a determination to save his place within the Great Journey, he now escorts the Prophet of Mercy and lead the Fleet of Pious Transgession at the outskirts of the Galactic Center. Having their sights aimed upon a planet of habitable environments, and a civilized population. May the gods that the population worship save them, for The Arbiter intends to do the opposite.

@DragonofTheWest hey since the fallen are kinda lacking in fleet power, having only one type of ship that is about equal to a slightly weaker covenant corvette, is it alright if I make the flagship of my faction a very powerful dreadnaught? Something to give us a bit more of a fighting chance if we come up against either your sith fleet or the covenant guys.
