@Mercenary Lord Yeah, I've lost stuff to sites vanishing too. That's a big reason why I started keeping logs of my own. *hugs*

I still have all the pictures and characters of mine from that RP logged away somewhere, and it was pretty cool what some of the people had come up with

I also like using scrivener to keep track of all my writing. Definitely worth buying imo, although I've let stuff get kind of bloated recently

Yeah, the last version of this RP, which had tons of world-building info that all of the players helped create, disappeared with the crash of the old forum. It was fucking heartbreaking. :(

Anyway, @The Angry Goat @OppositionJ @CollectorOfMyst @vietmyke

How are things going with your posts? I know a couple of you might have some ideas about collaborating, but I haven't heard any updates on that.

Also, @Draken, can I get an update? I left you a visitor message 4 days ago and you didn't answer. If you don't reply to this post I'm going to assume you lost interest in the RP and won't be joining us anymore.

I may have put together a rough subeta avatar for Ziotea's armor...She does have a white cloak, but that hides a lot of the outfit if I put it on the doll. And I need to tweak stuff in SAI to get the layering right. But hey, it's a start!

Edit: added the other one. ^.^;;

Christ, that last IC post took ages. Still haven't gotten poor Rodrion into the Karamzina yet, but we're making progress. One day he'll get to inspect it. I Promise. :p

Here are some images showing what the steam arks are supposed to look like.

VSS Grace:

VSS Karamzina:

Now that that's out of the way, I'll get to work on the stuff I needed to update before (Warband Leviathan's visions, Father Magnus' profile, ect).

@Lovejoy fat turtle. With wings! *giggles* they both look great.

Father Magnus, huh? Who is he? "Impatient wiggling.*

It seems odd to me that in a cold world we'd travel underwater, especially if both ships are not able to. Water drains heat faster than air, if I remember right. And if both can't go under it's not like we're saving time by avoiding above water storms nor the need to break the ice all the way there.

Though that is a thought. Why aren't we just putting runners on the bottom and sledding across? *laughter*

The Grace can also travel underwater. It’s why it has ether torches.

Sorry, was on my phone for that last post. I'll elaborate more.

The idea is that, theoretically, both arks will glide/break through across the top of the ice. That's the hope anyway. However, we're basically journeying into the unknown, as no one knows what's actually out there, i.e the conditions of the ice amidst the weird magical blizzards, or even if there is ice past the meridian where all exploration into the east has ended. It could all be ocean for all we know. There might be massive glaciers that the arks can't navigate past and we must burn through instead, and who knows what else.

By placing runners on the bottom, do you mean like, at the bottom of the seafloor? Because that would be very difficult and dangerous, seeing as how we're sailing on actual ocean and not frozen over landmasses, so the seafloor would be incredibly deep and yeah.

The state of the armada that left before (the one that our teachers are part of) is unknown to us at the moment.

Alright *knuckle crack* on a spontaneous trip to Philly with a friend, but she's at a race right now, so I can get some work done before exploring in a few hours. :) Here it goes.

@Lovejoy runners on the bottoms of the ships, like a sled. Go as far as ypou can above the ice, then go through it.

...interesting, it must be more than just a couple months after cukminationx as the teachers were around up till right before it, then crossing, then news back, then gettinin trouble, then us finding out about our unexpected assignment, then our couple weeks of freedom and time for preparation for the journey...

@shylarahlmao not sure where I got bottom of the sea floor from. I need sleep...

As for the timeline, it isn’t concrete right now but yeah it’s pretty much what you described.

So on the topic of Omestrians, I was reviewing the other day because it seems they're pretty much a bastard race with little correlation to what we know as races of modern times. I honestly was comparing them to Scandinavian culture (as we didn't have an Omestrian already made we're trying not to use the old thread as a framework) and so I named Viveca based on that. However, it seems they have a more Indian/Middle-Eastern feel than I had initially thought. At least, when compared to Indira. Shy's Omestrian (Ziotea[sp], right? Still getting characters straight) is a pale redhead, mine is a blond-haired, fair-skinned woman, and Indira is a dark-skinned, tall, dignified type. I'm a little confused - if they have a language, what does it compare to? (Like LaNostre is Spartan/Greek, Varya is Russian/Slavic, T'sarae is the Middle East, etc.) I guess they don't all have to have an exact correlation, and Omestris with it's wartorn, decimated culture, is probably the biggest mixing pot of races defined almost solely by the golden eyes.

EDIT: They could be, come to think of it, based on a Jewish/Israeli correlation. That comes in all colors, sizes, and shapes and historically kind of lines up well. Just spitballing. I like cultural equivalents, gives me something to base it on.

@ScoutOmestris was a melting pot of different cultures, so there's really no strict 1:1 correlation between it and a real world analogue. That's why we have people as diverse as Indira, Ziotea and Oren being of the same ancestry.

Speaking of Oren, @CollectorOfMyst, I don't know how I missed this, but could you put Oren into the Character Tab? Thanks.

@Lovejoy Ayyy, called it. I mean it literally fits everything from Native American to Scandinavian to Israeli to Indian... I LOVE it.

Also, I'm doing character relationships now, it's a lot of work but I'm trying to write them in-character.

Edit: Also, I've added this to Viveca's abilities, realized I never touched on weapon proficiency/fighting prowess.

"3. Underdog: Viveca was trained by an Inquisitor from a young age, and thus has a shockingly strong affinity for martial arts in all of their forms. The man was not tall, but he was built with the strength of Stina and Father Gregoroth. Seeing as her seemingly endless pool of ether didn't have much to offer in the way of magic or spells like it does for most, she was trained to use this resource in every moment of her fighting at just the right amount. Coupling this power from a young age with how much time she spent training with a weapons master before her enrollment at the Red Seminary, one might mistake Viveca for a citizen of Lanostre with her wide array of weapons specializations. Her uniform includes a boot knife, a dagger sheathed in the small of her back, and another combat knife strapped over her breast. On her left arm she has a black metal bracer that works like a shield when paired with an enchantment and her natural paling to provide defense. Her main weapon is a falchion sheathed on her left hip."

@Scout Sounds good! Could you change the bit where it says “near endless supply of ether” though? I know her ether pool is pretty substantial but this wording makes it seem like it effectively never runs out, which would pretty much break the power ceiling of the story :p

Yeah, totally was typing too fast. Didn't mean endless, "Seemingly" Was a better word, as she doesn't really have any USE for it all. I'll re-word.

EDIT: Done.
