So my concept is to be a kind of isolationist, monk sort of fellow. I'm thinking of him being from Ausos.

Just gonna say this: if you follow through with him, Jackson's probably going to test the limits of his monkliness.

Sounds nice. If you're going for a Tibetan/Himalayan inspiration, then 'Idall' is probably a better fit. But, if you're thinking more in terms of Native American, I could write Ausos with that in mind. Thoughts?

Of course. But, you know, different inspirations, lots of flexibility. Looking forward to see what you come up with, regardless!

Okay, so, the first post is up. This weekend was the target for starting the story, and now it is here. Seeing as some are in the process of making characters, we can move slowly in the beginning here, so that everyone can catch up. No stress, no pressure, it's all very chill.

Chodak
22-Male-180cm

p r e s e n c e
To other people Chodak acts entirely as he appears, when in colder climates he wears full robes and holds himself with a pleasantness, walks around lightly and in times of strife always takes a deep breath to centre himself before taking action. Those who know him closely know that despite his calm demeanor and attitude he is a joyful individual, and while he wants to bring peace to those around him he also wants to bring them a sense of joy and excitement.

i d e o l o g y
Chodak clings to the four noble truths of life. As such he works his whole life in order to achieve spiritual enlightenment and as such liberation. So he tries to live a plain as life as possible, he does not have any personal possessions other than his clothing and a single amulet linking him back to the monastry.

The four truths are central to his life:
  • The Truth of Suffering.
  • The Truth of the Origin of Suffering. - Desires.
  • The Truth of the Cessation of Suffering. - Removal of Desires.
  • The Truth of the Path to Cessation of Suffering. - Following the path to liberation.

Chodak also believes in the cycle of rebirth, which isn't hard to do when there are spirits all throughout the world.

c h r o n i c l e
  • Born in the village of Demtra, high in the mountains. He was passed onto the monastry by his parents at a very young age. Raised as a Monk, he learned from a young age the ideology that he has clung to for the rest of his life.
  • When he was five the Earth Wolf spirit visited his monastry, much to the surprise of the monks. While the monastry had been visited by spirits before, they had mainly been associated with the element of air. This spirit which called itself Parthvi looked around the monastry before it finally touched its nose to Chodaks head. It was then that the monks knew he was destined for bigger things.
  • Chodak shaved his hair bar his ponytail, this was an indication that he was fully dedicated to the ways of the Idallin monkage.
  • At age 15 Chodak went on his spirit quest, to find himself. He didn't know it at the time but this also had to do with him being selected by the spirit Parthvi. From this point onwards he had very little contact with the outside world, training in Hung Ga and medidation techniques at a mountain shrine.
  • Age 21, when the Calamity occured Parthvi appeared to him again, this time with other spirits in tow. Chodak knew it was time, and as the spirits entired him he learnt of his new responsibilities to the world.
  • Chodak spent the next two years helping spirits and people pass through the mountain passages, trying as he might however to avoid getting caught up in the war effort. It didn't work forever...

s t r i f e
Not a lot of combat experience, he knows how to center himself in a stressful situation, something not everyone else can do. He knows the theory on how to attack however he would never attack to kill, merely incapacitate. He has petrified smaller violent beasts before, and altered the course of rockslides however he has never been in an actual fight. He knows the theory behind hand to hand combat, being trained in Hung Ga - A form of Martial Arts that relies on strong stances and powerful strikes, no matter the size of the user. Chodak spent years performing stances before learning moves and still practices several hours each day.

a u x i l i a r y
I'm building Chodak of the tenants that one has to be a Buddhist Monk.

Geokinetic Surfing is alright without the flight part, but that can be learned later. For Terrakinetic Constructs I'd like to remove Golems and Vehicles, otherwise it's OK. I'm on the fence about Petrification, because it trivializes confrontation. However, it can be an unstable learning process and not work on everything, if you'd like. Or, you can pick something else that can be used more freely. Earth Lift/Throw/Move doesn't have a link, so I can't see the details of it.

@Prisk The last one was a place holder for a couple of (that I'm yet to choose)Earth Attacks. Petrification I'm perfectly okay with the learning curve, as that is his strongest ability by far. So I'm okay with the idea that he can do it to himself (last resort, if he does it he has no control on when he comes out) and on small things, maybe even passing out when doing it to anything bigger. In terms of surfing, I'm cool without flying. Gliding is where it's at yo. Constructs, yeah I just wanted to do th e armour thing.

@Prisk So the one I'm after is in the gif on the Earth Attacks page with Toph, the whole Earthbender thing where they can launch and move earth around, but there's no link for that. Any ideas? I checked them all and can't find what I'm looking for, it's the whole idea where you can pull things out of the ground and throw them around, or simply raise platforms.

Hmm, I think Earth Bolt Projection would be the closest. You can put this down, and then describe it in-game as the gif on the Earth Attacks page.

Btw, if you guys need somesort of numerical record or random decision making device for deciding if something is a hit or miss. Roleplayer guild has it's own dice recording system that very few know about:

Here's the link. https://www.roleplayerguild.com/campaigns

Thought it is worth putting out there in case a scenario comes up where you might need it.
