so I completely rewrote the Apparition section from scratch

Apparition - Ghosts, Phantasms, Demons, whatever you call them, they are strange beings. They are not made out of flesh and blood, but instead, they are made out of spiritual energy. Apparitions are noted for what they are spawned from; belief, emotion, or are an echo of the deceased. Any powerful belief can create an Apparition reflecting it (for example some Apparitions are religious in nature, but other abstract ideas can also spawn Apparitions) and powerful enough emotions can also create the same Apparitions (For example intense rage, lust, greed, and so on can create Apparitions). There's also a third category in which the Apparitions are created by the deceased, created by them harboring a powerful emotion before their death or somebody else feeling a strong way about them. Apparitions are fueled and powered by emotion and belief - usually the same emotions and beliefs that created them. The stronger the belief/emotion is, the more powerful the Apparition will become - but on the flip side if the emotions/belief that created them begin to wane/falter they will weaken. It can be to the point where they fade from existence entirely.

Long as there is the emotion or belief in them, the Apparition will continue to exist. All Apparitions are functionally immortal because of this. They are functionally immune to attacks by the Blind, but can be damaged by Extra-Normal attacks (even so much as a mere punch). Once destroyed they'll disappear for awhile to regenerate their form and then reappear. Depending on how much emotion/belief they have; one can reappear in so much as a day while others can reappear months later. Apparitions have abstractions of their own much like the Awakened, they reflect the emotions that create them. They can have any number of abilities from strength, to pyromancer, to cursing people - and their power reflects the belief. It's possible for an Apparition's abstraction to completely change if the belief/knowledge around them changes. It's also possible that Apparitions abstraction changes when they're bound to a human depending on the human.

Some Apparitions have existed chronologically for millions of years and are absolutely ancient. While other Apparitions come and go. There's a method to retain their form/abilities forever: by binding themselves to a human (Look at the Aberration's section for more information). By doing this they are able to exist as long as the human does and Apparitions who have no belief are able to extend their time on this planet. However, as many Apparitions are powerful, there's a technique known as "Sealing" to imprison them forever in an object. Any Extra-Normal being who knows how to do the sealing technique can seal an Apparition forever (or until the Seal is broken). Some Apparitions have no choice but to stay sealed as they've been sealed so long that the moment they'll come out they'll fade away.

Given that Apparitions are made out of the same energy that many Extra-Normal beings pool their energy from; they are completely invisible to the Blind (unless they make themselves visible). Because of this connection they can detect when other Extra-Normal beings are in the area (it's dependant on the Apparition, some can only detect them when they're close while others can do it from miles away). However, their existence is heavily dependant on the same energy and if a universe doesn't have enough power for them to exist they'll gradually go dormant. That universe was this one until the magic returned and many Apparitions that were ancient finally came back.

It should be a bit more clear now.

Riley stands at five foot seven and has short blonde hair which looks damaged and fucked up, it's just apart of her unique and wild little aesthetic she has going on. She is usually caught dead wearing a bunch of hot-topic t-shirts and a pair of short-shorts if the weather permits it. When it's more chilly she'll wear a sweater and a pair of leggings, Riley is of a athetlic build but could be catagorized as a skinny chick she's by no means a body builder but more-so a runner. She has light green eyes and is usually not caught without a cigarette in hand or a blunt if she's feeling extra spicy. Her bust is shapely at a 36B but she's more shapely. On her chest near her midsection is a tatoo of a bouquet of dead roses.

BACKSTORY

"Flordia? Lived here all my life."

South Carolina was not Florida, not by a longshot.

Riley grew up on a farm out in South Carolina, it was a decent farm with decent farms and in a small town, there wasen't much to do in old butt-fuck Virginia. Her childhood was not typical for a child her age, she worked with her father, mother and two other brothers in farm chores and duties that were assigned to her. She ended up going to the 'big old citaay' for most of her life for school which was actually Rock Hill. Not the biggest but big enough for the Larouche's tastes.

She was a smart cookie for being a hick livin' it out in the SC but she did well in school, her future was bright and it would be when she went to college when the world be turned upside down for her. She ended up clicking with the one group of girls and guys, but most importantly the leader Taylor Juleson what a hottie. She was head over heels for him, so when she asked him her help her set up a few guys to get robbed she coulden't say no. Maybe it was his charm, or because he was so popular but one night after class she met up with two guys. Things got hands on, flirty and a little bit more when a group of people in masks came running out with guns and shook them down, Riley included. She was shocked, the adrenaline was a rush she met up with Taylor after and got her things back along with her cut. She was hooked.

Over the course of her college program (which was corporate communications, I know yawn) she worked with Taylor and the group to line their pockets and cause some mayhem. It didn't escalte further that petty robberys and pick pocketing until they graduated, while Riley struggled to find work she got heavily involved with Taylor who not only was her lover but was her best friend aswell. The two were peas in a pod, and carved their names under a big oak tree on their campus. The one with the big bowie knife stuck in it above all the inscriptions of love.

It was that fateful day after graduation, a celebration of grandiose purportion (Taylor's family was actually rich funny enough). The group met at his mansion for a night of debauchery and celebration to the end of their respective programs, the next day after a wicked hangover and some fuckery the group reconvened to discuss a big job. Some were uncomfortable, it wasen't anything they had ever done before robbing the local drug dealer seemed implausible. The security, the heat they were packing, all worries were disspated by Riley just like Taylor expected. The local dealer, Zak Madison would be at the Grey Tie a local club in Rock Hill later that week and that's where they'd strike.

Everything was going to plan Riley was flirting with Zak, except he was with a big group which meant a bigger take right? Then everyone showed up, masked up, and they had guns too. None of them had the balls to pull it, except Taylor did when the others started and bullets started flying. Riley ducked for cover as it was over in a blink of an eye. So many dead, she was covered in blood as Taylor greedily robbed Zak and his crew. When she tried to run out the club like so many others did she couldent when Taylor told her to stay, maybe she didn't realize it back then but there was something Extra-Normal about Taylor. With his pockets lined he left, the group dead and Riley as a scape goat. She was unable to move, fear struck a chord in her as thoughts of going to jail for this finally spooled up in her mind.

Lady luck was on her side that night, one of the clubs security guards pulled her out despite her fighting it he got her out the fire escape door and to the street where sirens echoed in the distance and the lights flickered as Riley ran. The police would be after her soon, one way or another they would get her. Going back to where it all started she sat down at the old oak tree and began to cry, she didn't understand it all the betryal, the deceit and now everyone was dead.

The event was fucked and it changed Riley forever, and not in a cool way. After that she losted some of her famed confidence, what was the most troubling was the nightmares she would experience afterwards. Cold sweats, screaming it was tearing away at her mental fortitude. Besides that the survivors guilt followed her everyday like a storm cloud threatening to rain on her, she felt stupid and used and even more stupid for following Taylor. How could she of been this naive? She felt helpless and felt like she was the one that pulled the trigger rather than the victim.

It would be only a matter of time before the cops came for Riley, there had been surviellance and everything. She was involved and they were going to get her, wiping away her tears she decided she was going to turn herself in, not before scratching out their intials on that old derelict tree. She looked up at the bowie knife that was embedded into the tree along the high branches. She began to climb, lifting her nimble body up as she went to grab the knife after climbing the tree. Upon contact a voice entered her head, it was stoic and wise like a creepy old man. Riley almost fell from the tree from being startled before she quickly climbed down knife in hand.

The voice, later identified as 'Jinx' the apparation had been trapped in that knife for so long. It was grateful and coulden't stop thanking the mere mortal, however in Riley's eyes she was in awe either she had gone crazy or it had all just been a bad dream. She went to take out her phone while the demon-head-thing was speaking when the battery quickly drained to zero. What the fuck? Jinx explained, whoopsie he drained all the power from her phone, like accidentally putting cheese on a cheese free burger order. He offered Riley his powers in exchange for her help in his 'conquest' it sounded silly, gaining power and becoming a 'great apparation' whatever that meant. Riley just wanted revenge for being set up, being played and for the friends Taylor took from her. She looked down at her hands with cracked momentarily with the eletrcity she had absorbed from her phone. This was going to be awesome.

She decided to skip town, hell skip the entire state! Old Uncle Tyler lived in Tampa, Florida living large compared to her tiny father's farm, and she needed to lay low for a bit. She had no car so she had to hitchhike and 'trade favours' to cover the distance to get to Tampa. Once arriving to Uncle Tyler's unannounced he was excited to see her (no one vistied the poor old fool). While walking funny, she made her way inside where she and Jinx would plot on taking down Taylor and growing the unfortunate apparitations rise to power. Before they could do anything useful Riley was side tracked, falling into an online group. The Coven, it was cool, quirky and a good way to bide time however the two decided to jump down the rabbit hole that was this Coven because things weren't as they seemed.

Riley's ability has a range of around thirty feet because her electrical attacks have difficulty traveling. There's also the matter of non-conductive materials interfering with her abstraction.

WEAKNESSES ⫻ Water is the bane of Riley's existence. If she's wet or touching water then the charge will be transferred to the water - which will burn her. It generally just interferes with her ability as she won't be able to direct it the way that she wants to. Riley constantly builds up a static charge. A static charge that is transferred to the next part or person she touches. Which is something she has little control over (unless she transfers the shock to something harmless). Riley can easily fry any electronic that she touches and that'll often be her cellphone.

Jessica is about an average size, she likes to think. She's five feet seven inches tall and weighs 135 pounds. She has a little muscle to her, seeing as she has a few active hobbies, such as hiking, jogging, and LARPing. She doesn't work out especially but she has stamina, and a slight tone to her muscles. She has smaller breasts, but what she lacks in those, she makes up for with her butt. She has natural dark red hair that reaches just past her shoulders. Her hair is wavy and a bit on the wild side, and she usually wears it loose. She has deep brown eyes that always seem to have a sort of shine to them. Aside from a few scars on her arms and legs, a notable fresh one on her right arm, she has no real thing of note on her body.

She usually wears tight fitting jeans or some form fitting shorts (usually denim), a t-shirt, and either a jacket or open shirt over top of her t-shirt. She also wears a gemstone necklace that hardly ever leaves her neck, tied their by a tough leather cord. She also likes wearing beanies and other loose fitting hats.

PSYCHOLOGY

BACKSTORY

"Just a boring Indiana life. Moving to Florida was the best!"

Jessica was born in bum-fuck Indiana. Not really much around to do, and not much trouble to get into, so she spent most of her life as a bit of a good girl, aside from the trespassing she so carelessly loved to do. She lived in a sizable town, by the midwest's standards. She got good test scores at school, but average grades, due to her habit of not doing her homework. She retained the information just fine, why did she have to do a thing in her spare time that she already knew? Instead, she used her spare time to play video games, watch anime and movies, and take walks in the nearby woods or maybe pop into an old abandoned warehouse or two. She loved to explore, and wanted to be able to go on epic quests like Lord of the Rings or something! This interest drove her into playing Dungeons and Dragons with some fellow nerds in middle school. A habit that would persist for the rest of her life, at least to present day. She also enjoyed collecting gemstones, and had made a necklace out of Onyx that her father assisted by attaching the stone to a steel inlet. She then ran a leather cord he made through it and tied it on.

When she was in elementary school, she convinced her father to put her in Karate classes. She was especially fond of Dragon Ball Z around this time, among other anime that focused on fighting. She took the classes through elementary school, becoming an orange belt before quitting.

In her first year of high school, she was introduced to LARPing. She loved the idea of having sword fights for fun in real life, not just on a tabletop. She helped form the group of losers, called the Alluvium Vale. They would hold sessions in a park every Saturday in the warmer months. She favored long sword type weapons, but also was pretty decent with pole arms and daggers too, though daggers were the least effective of the three. The group was used to being made fun of, but every now and again a random person would be interested and ask to play. It had its ups and downs. On Friday nights, her group would have D&D, where she often made barbarians and fighters, and almost always led the party. She however never ran a game. She preferred to be the hero, not the god. Also around this time, she took fencing classes and English Sword fighting classes, she attended the fencing classes for about a year, but the English sword fighting classes she took til she was twenty.

She got a job at a video game store where she worked from the time she was 18, to when she moved 7 months ago. She enjoyed it there, she always liked staying late for the midnight releases. Her home life stayed about as it always had been, single father, 1 daughter. No real drama to speak of. The two got along well enough. That's why Jess decided when she graduated, why even move out? My dad is just a roommate I've already been living with for my whole life. It's a good gig. However, it did make dating a little awkward. Whenever she had a boy over, she tried to make sure her dad was out of the house. He thought she was still a virgin she bet, but that kinda stopped after a LARP session in her Junior year. Her main crush Cody finally picked up on her hints, and made love in his crappy 90s car. It was good, and the two had dated for about a year after that, but decided they just didn't click.

She started dating a guy named Stacey when she was twenty, and he was a fighting nut. He liked martial arts movies and MMA. He taught her the basics of hand to hand, and he was surprised that she was able to teach him how to effectively fight with a sword or staff. The two dated for only six months though, seeing as Stacey was a bit of a cheater. She was angry and kinda stopped dating for a while after that. When she was twenty-three, her father got a job opportunity in Tampa for construction work. She had an option, stay in Indiana with all her friends and find a place to live, or tag along. And tag-along she did.

When she got to Tampa, that's when things got weird. And fun! She only lived there for about a week before she already started nosing around. One night, during a late walk around nine PM that some masked assailant charged her, screaming for her to give him her money. She stood her ground, she felt fear, but who cared? This guy wasn't gonna push her around. He wasn't even armed. She firmly told him, No asshole. He charged her, and remembering what she learned from Stacey, she hooked his arm and took him to the ground, pulling his arm back. He screamed for her to stop, which she did. It's not every day you hear for someone beg for mercy. He got up and gave her a swift punch in the jaw. It hurt, but it did little more than that. The guy was a complete novice and swung wide, allowing her to follow the punch with her face, lessening the blow. She drove her knee as hard as she could into his groin, then punched him square on the nose. She ran off after he fell, hoping she didn't make too much of a scene.

That night, she had a dream. Someone she had seen before told her that she had powers. Powers she hadn't yet realized. She explained briefly about the extra-normal, and told her about the powers she could learn. Jess woke up, realizing that she had seen her mother, among other people who looked similar to each other. She followed the instructions she recieved, and before she knew it, her onyx necklace began to glow orange. She picked up one of her swords, that she had been collecting since she was 18, old enough to buy them, and was shocked to see the orange glow surround it too. The following day she got her job at a small comic shop, where she made fast friends with the owner, an older man named Craig, and the three other employees, all in their twenties as well. Jack, Terran, and Andrew. Jess found Terran to be extra cute.

A couple months went by, and Jess continued to practice pushing that orange glow down the blade of her swords. She owned two that were actually sharp, a short sword with a 2 and a half foot blade, and a broad sword of about the same length. The other 10 or so were all replicas.

One night, not too awful long ago, she had read a reddit post about some weird activity around town. She went to check it out. Surely enough, she found an Apparition. Some strange looking beast. She backed up, surprised by what she was seeing. The beast lunged at her and put a solid gash on her arm. She picked up a stick and the orange glow flared from her gem and made its way up the stick. She lunged the stick at the beast which resulted in the thing retreating. From that point on, Jess would pack her short sword in a bag that was made for a tent that she fashioned into a sword carrier. She would fight apparitions, usually only making them run off, but one time she managed
to kill one (or so she thought.). When she heard on reddit that a coven was forming physically, she ran to join, excited to find like talented people.

SKILLS & TALENTS

"Yeah, I know I'm a nerd, but I bet I can take you in a sword fight!"

Crafting ⫻ Jess has spent the bulk of her life making weapons out of foam, pvc, and duct tape, and painting and even whittling D&D miniatures. She also knows her way around a sewing machine.

Swordfighting ⫻ Jess became pretty adept at winning fights with sword-like objects. She was thrilled to find out the real deal isn't really much different. She also took sword fighting classes for years.

Basic Grappling and Fighting ⫻ She learned a few tricks on how to fight. Certain basic submission holds, and the fact that her knees and elbows can be used to deal great pain to an opponent's soft parts. She also knows basic karate. Doesn't remember any of the kata, but those are for show anyway. If she fights someone who isn't trained, she'd definitely have an upper hand.

Orienteering Jess has gotten a keen sense of direction after all of her explorations through woods. She's picked up tricks to always know where she is.

ABSTRACTION DESCRIPTION ⫻ Jess is able to send an orange glow down an object she is holding to make it more effective against apparitions. It also enhances the weapon with an extension, however far she can push the orange glow, the weapon's effects will stretch there as well.

She has also been able to harden materials, such as her clothing to make it a thin level of armor.

AURA SENSING ⫻ Jess has the ability to sense hostility. Not just frustration, but the intent to attack. A red sort of feeling flashes in her mind in the direction of the threat.

LIMITS ⫻ Jessica can only imbue a few objects at a time, up to three. She'll have to drop the imbuing on one object to apply it to a different item and the effect only persists for thirty minutes. Which means she'll have to imbue the object most likely when she uses it. The ability to extend the range of weapons only goes about twenty feet. Her abstraction only has a stronger effect against Apparitions, a powerful effect, but it doesn't do too much extra damage against other Extra-Normal beings (With the exception of the adjoined).

WEAKNESSES ⫻ Normal objects are not capable of handling the influx of Lux that well. Using it too much will cause them to bend and break a lot easier and faster than normal by striking them.

Swordfighting ⫻ Jess became pretty adept at winning fights with sword-like objects. She was thrilled to find out the real deal isn't really much different.

I'm kinda confused because, like, there's no way she can learn actual swordfighting from LARPING (though, to be faaaair a weirdo like her would probably get swordfighting classes). So did she take classes or something?

Unless she's fighting the world's weakest man (or she can take a punch) this probably should have knocked her out. Trust me. I'm a martial artist myself (and I'm big af lol) and I got socked by people waaaaaaaaay smaller than me and almost got knocked out. Farmer Hill, Montana.

A place few people have heard of, being a small town in the middle of nowhere. However, it couldn't have been more important. Eons ago, all the magic in the universe was used to seal a powerful God-like being known as the Glutton. This thing was an incomprehensible ball of orange light that tortured countless universes and then devoured them and has feasted to the point where it was near invincible. Its rampage was brought to an end in the universe of Glint where combined forces brought the thing down and sealed it in a mountain in a different universe. That different universe is the world where the story takes place, and that mountain was Mount Ever Reaching in Farmer Hill.

It was where the Glutton lied dormant for ages upon ages - the League of Luminscience manipulated Farmer Hill to keep the citizens away from the mountain and the existence of magic a secret. However, it all changed when the seals that kept the Glutton dormant were broken by somebody's foolishness and it was allowed to feast off of what sustained it: emotions. The Glutton's first action was attacking a campsite full of people by corrupting one powerful minion and inadvertently Awakened the people that would defeat it. It tormented this group as they tried to find a way to defeat it; ultimately knocking them into a coma for a few months.

In this few months, the Glutton turned Farmer Hill upside-down - mind-controlling countless people and turning the town into a chaotic warzone. Anyone who entered Farmer Hill was enthralled as well and in this chaos; the Glutton slaughtered any Awakened or Extra-Normal beings that it could with impunity and tortured them endlessly in its domain. However, the Awakened that was put into a coma, well, awakened from it and rebelled against it. Ultimately, they engaged in one final battle against the Glutton in the mountain and, out of desperation to escape, the Glutton broke the seals that were binding it. However, by doing this the Glutton injured itself to the point where it was eliminated and the multiverse was free from it.

However, these events were reversed as a new timeline was born from the "death" of the Glutton. A new timeline where Farmer Hill was destroyed in a catastrophic earthquake and the Awakened that the Glutton killed were resurrected. However, with the death of the Glutton, the magic was returned.

Unless she's fighting the world's weakest man (or she can take a punch) this probably should have knocked her out. Trust me. I'm a martial artist myself (and I'm big af lol) and I got socked by people waaaaaaaaay smaller than me and almost got knocked out. So, for the classes, yeah. That does make sense. She got interested in learning from both LARP and just all the movies and games she liked. I'll put in that she has taken fencing classes and english sword fighting classes. Also to add to her small bit of martial arts knowledge, she definitely took karate when she was younger lmao.

As for the punch, I guess she can take a punch? And also the guy just didn't know what he was doing. She was his first attempt at mugging.
The reason why she didn't just kick and run was a mix between adrenaline and a weird that likes anime too much lol. I can alter it a bit if you need me to though.
