A sea voyage across the ocean meets with disaster, as a violent storm wrecks the ship, and the survivors wake up to find themselves stranded on an unknown island.

Hello! This is an experimental roleplaying game taking place in a Swords & Sorcery type medieval fantasy setting. Each player will be taking on the role of a character aboard the fateful vessel headed for shipwreck. To preserve the air of mystery, I'm not going to say much about what the characters may encounter throughout the game - that's for you as the player to find out ;)

In terms of writing level and style, things will be quite lenient, and you can expect anything ranging from free (short, few lines) to casual (few paragraphs) to bordering on advanced (more than a few paragraphs). The game should accommodate all manner of writing and role-playing styles. I as a GM will likely write several paragraphs per more notable updates, but for things like NPC dialogue, it may just be a few lines. Again, all writing levels and styles are welcomed!

For character creation, feel free to go for anything you like that would fit into a general fantasy world. The premise is pretty basic and should support a wide array of possibilities. Do note that this is an experimental game, and characters may be subjected to a number of dangerous and unsettling situations with potentially disastrous outcomes. Player discretion is advised!

Description: Short slicked back hair that’s black, with a permanent snarl on my butch face. I’m a bad bitch whose been around the block a few times and it shows, I’m 5 foot even and as wide as I am tall, I only wear chainmail, and loin cloth. I have a few poorly done prison tats with former girlfriends names that didn’t work out. I like hiking, but hate bugs, the sun, and anything happy, so I only hike in the rain.
Bio: I worked as a bar wench off and on and went to prison a few times mostly for assault for men telling me to Get them a beer. I like my Horse her name is Harley and ride her everywhere. I’m lookin to settle down with the right fair and burly maiden, I’ve saved up about tree fiddy and I’m wanting a hardy stout woman to warm my face at night.
Purpose of travel: Looking for love in all the wrong places.

Description: Willowy and lithe; Decidedly feminine proportions. Flawless skin and hair. Always dresses "Fabulous"
Bio: While technically an Alumni and Valordictorian of one of the more prestigious magical academies, "Ember" is not allowed to return after "The incident" that rankled more than a few feathers some years back. Is a powerful sorcerer in his own right, and is narcisistically attracted to people of similar degrees of power or prowess. Is very capable and resourceful, but ultimately solely motivated by his own internal opinions and beliefs. As a narcisist, he is his own higher power.
Purpose of travel: Transport/Vacation. Since having been banned from the academy, his only way to get near the "New Hotties" is when the academy has its spring inter-semester break; Customarily, the location is always a secret until the last week before end of term, and is always someplace exotic. Ember cashed in some favors to find out where it was this year, and booked passage.
Other info: Master of illusion, material manipulation, and magical combat. Sub-specialty in magical cosmetology, and magical compulsions. Narcisistic. Extremely limber and flexible.

Description: A tiny dark-skinned woman with pale hair and a few scarring. Eyes can be described as "utterly and completely out of her marbles" or green, depending on who's looking. Able to morph into a stubby short snake with disproportionately wide midsection at will.

Bio: Either an old snake demon that gained sentience or a byproduct of magic gone wrong, the serpent currently using the name Verdant is a psycopath wanted for murder and mass poisoning in several countries under various different alias over the years. Things may had heated a bit too much after the poisoning of a particularly well-liked local lord, thus she snuck into the first ship going faraway and maybe spend a few decades becoming a problem in someone else's backyard.
Purpose of travel: Escaping the authorities
Other info: Expert in brewing and perusing poison, knifing people in a dark alley, running the hell away from someone stronger, and sneaking back to torch their house later. Innately able to alter the human form to a moderate extent, and is generally highly resistant to toxic substances.

Description: Black hair with white strands scattered about, like an overstressed aging man, and long enough to cover his ears and develop bangs, lthough he sweeps them to the side. Pale skin. Brown eyes hidden behind metal-frame circular glasses. Arguably handsome, though he never takes that face mask off. Unusually average body of unknown height, for rarely do people ever see him stand up from his wheelchair, which seems made of metal and leather, with metal wheels attached to it. The lack of hand-carried luggage would suggest it's all under the wheelchair but no one can say for sure, he dismisses whenever someone asks. As far as clothing goes, he seems very well-off. Leather, silk and cotton surround his entire body, even down to hand gloves, and yet he does not have an umbrella. Does he not get hot in them? Oh, and a sharp middle-aged man voice.

Description: Bradrurth stands at a little over six feet tall. He keeps his beard trimmed into short stubble. He often dresses well, as he is from a wealthy family. His skin reflects that, as he has kept up a good skincare routine and takes pride in his appearance.
Bio: Bradrurth Holweaver grew up wealthy. An heir to a fortune. One he should currently possess if it wasn’t for fate. After an incident that changed him. Bradrurth has found himself of somewhat of an undead disposition. The technical term would be Dhampir. Through his own dabblings in arcane arts, specifically shadow magic and Pyromancy he has managed to stave off most of the vampiric curse that afflicts him, allowing him to retain his humanity, but he is unsure of how much longer he can keep it up.
Purpose of travel: Searching for a cure, so he can inherit his family fortune.

Description: An exile wandering ronin. He wears same as the picture, he also have a bedroll on his back and a unique looking quiver filled with arrows. His weapon is an authentic katana that is either inherited by his noble family or a military equipped weapon. For range, he carries a bow originally from his land. He have an enough money to travel far as he do helping services and looting from the encountered slain bandits.
Bio: Rumors by people on his origin, he is either an ex-samurai or a heir prince of the clan.
Purpose of travel: TBA in storyline
Other info: He is an excellent fighter with katana and spear. When range, he can shoot arrows accurately while riding on horseback in fast movement.

Bio: A novice wizard, magic always came easily to her, mastering concepts much faster than her class mates. An accident occured when she was 14, in which she accidentally summoned a demon. In the attack she lost 2 fingers on her left hand. Despite this, she received a full scholarship to study at a major magic academy in a far off land.

Purpose of travel: Travelling to her new academy to further study and master magic

Other info: At first she is very shy, speaking very professionally to anyone she doesnt know. Once she opens up she reveals her excitement for whatever she is studying at the time. She speaks with a slight lisp.

It's kind of up to the limitations you've set for your character but I'd say nothing too extreme in terms of power levels... for example controlling and manipulating the elements to a reasonable degree is completely fine but something like turning an entire forest into ice cream with the snap of one's fingers would be a bit too much. Also things that have very large-scale implications, like turning back time, cross-dimensional travel, universal alterations to space time, etc, would generally be considered outside the practical scope of possibility. If things get into a gray area I might just roll a dice to determine whether it works or not. I'm mostly lenient about everything though so feel free to be creative and have fun with things! And as always feel free to ask about anything you're not sure about.

The way I was operating, there are several styles of manipulating magic.

For instance, one may specialize in verbal incantation type invocation. Others, like ember, just 'feel' the magic all around them, and bend it with will power alone, but need a focusing object for larger scale influence. The fundamental nature of magic remains the same, but the way one accesses it may differ, be it based on skill, training, nature, or even just preference.

No matter the means used, there would be trade offs. An evoker type sorc, like my guy, can cast magic while gagged, but needs a focus to do much more than colored lights or making flames pop up on a finger tip. An incantation specialist needs only be able to speak to use magic, but is limited by the verbiage they know. Etc.

Presumably, the academy you go to will offer a universal curriculum, with aptitude testing, to help guide your educational experience, to reach your true potential, with educators and symposia from every major style, and researchers furthering advancement in the art for all major types.

Spiral Origin will make determinations as needed, but he tends to like things being open. That's why I went with this wider, more open view, and the specific types of limit for my char. He's an alumnus, and thus went through that educational system already; he knows how to practice magic on an expert level, but he's ON VACATION, and brought only a light duty focus. Left the big stuff at home. (And is thus hamstrung by circumstance, which is at spiral's discretion.) This wider view permits magic outside the box I painted, in a nearly limitless range of possibilities. Think about the strengths and weaknesses of your character, then go with the flow.
