I have some curious questions from an outsider that.. will almost undoubtedly remain an outsider. Working 40-60 hours a week at a job that I almost certainly can't spend the time to keep up with something like this at the job pretty much eliminates that.

How do you follow whats going on where in this posting format? I mean, there are quotes all over the place, but reading a couple pages I have no idea who is where, if there are two settings or if everyone is in the same location.

What about attacks materialized off screen, or other invisible methods? If you were to try to say, use someone who typical relies on not being able to be seen by cloaking abilities or just distance from target it would be hard to really convey a sense of that.

What about a character that almost never speaks? All in all it would seem like someone who doesn't speak often would be hard to depict in a format that is majority speaking.

With the limited description, how do you convey with your star-busting character that you are only throwing a planet busting attack? Seems like there is an implicit automatic balancing on the large power scale due to the nature of how the RP is played. Things would naturally play out to whatever the story wants rather than continuity of power scaling.

Believe it or not, someone does happen to be mute. They're a very expressive individual, so that becomes less of a problem due to their actions. It's not that hard to follow when you get into it because you end up knowing who everybody is and what situations are going on, and then perhaps if there are two different groups of people in the same location and such—it's something that you pick up pretty quickly just through reading and doesn't become all that much of a problem for anyone. If someone is invisible, something along the lines of
*You are impacted by an unseen force*
Would work well. Add descriptors if you want power scaling.
*Kicks you with enough strength to send you a mile into the crust of the Earth*
vs.
*Kicks you with the strength of a meteor impact*
Of course, that's not an exhaustive list, but just some examples.
I don't really understand your last sentence, but along that line of idea, we, for all intents and purposes, don't control where it goes. There's no goal, no final barrier to reach, no limit to the world. Every individual has his or her own traits, goals, and motivations, and they all happen to be linked by some commonalities that bring them together.

We tend to keep to our own lines, I suppose. With each of us using anywhere from 0 to, say, 20 characters at a given time, the quotes to keep us on track with what character we're using in what setting, which is really all we need. We also have gotten to this point from years ago where we were posting several times a minute throughout each day. That experience helps those of us who were there, and we were much faster before the Guild site crashed a long time ago. Honestly, at this point it's harder to keep track of because sometimes we have to go several days between making a post and receiving a reply than it is to keep track. Personally I just skip the events that don't impact any of my characters, which actually helps with our format since it lends to my characters not knowing what's gone on for other characters since they weren't there. It makes it harder to accidentally meta-game.
We also all switch our avatars and titles for each character we play, and most of us have at least two accounts for this reason. When using multiple on one account we make it a point to at least put the name of characters we don't have set as our avatar/title in the post, sometimes including that character as well. To new people it's unfortunately nearly impossible to understand non-current events, but for us we know it from memory back to whenever we joined.

Since it would be sort of absurd to require everyone to follow the way we show which character is active, it's not entirely required that anyone post exactly the way we do. If someone wanted, it would be fine to make a post like nearly any other RP, we'd just ask that the exposition and such be added to the actions by surrounding it *like this.* We also tend to make good use of the pokemon rivals, as "???" shows up pretty often.

Again, since we designate actions, a mute character would just require more detailed actions than someone who can speak.

We tend to use "shounen logic" where characters tend to fight at a low level until someone decides to start hitting harder. Honestly, when we first started those years ago there was absolutely no designation of actions, everything was via speech in-character. We also didn't have an OOC or even know for sure who had what accounts until they did something to reveal it.

I prefer to chalk the "shounen logic" part to starting with generic tactics until you can adapt to your enemy. Fights go way beyond "who can hit harder" since it about who can best utilize their abilities, surroundings, and strategy to win. It's closer to chess than it is to War (the card game).

Except, you know, Tsukuyomi. And Geass. And literally any of Dark's other eye moves. And Kill-Point. And any Codex. And pretty much any of the original cast who can one-shot nearly anything without any wait time. Etc.

I'm sorry, DB is probably the biggest example of how to do power scaling poorly.

Part of Kefla's problem wasn't Kefla herself. Actually, it almost entirely wasn't. The constituent parts were scaled in the most bullcrap way I've ever seen.
