Hey folks, I'm trying to make RPGC plans for the month of November. November is also National Novel Writing Month -- read about it here -- a writing sprint to 50 thousand words. Before I alter the RPGC format TOO much, it would be smart to get some idea of how many people are going to try NaNo.

Even if you're not a regular RPGC entrant, feel free to leave a reply here if you're gonna do NaNo. Thanks!

I'm going to try to do NaNo, but I can still at least set up themes and stuff. I just won't be entering and probably won't be reviewing. Sooo... yeah.

My thinking is, I want people who do NaNo to be able to enter the RPGC contest as well without taking time/effort away from their novel. Talking with @Terminal, I realized that RPGC gets almost the entire month, so we should really be able to make that work -- BUT, I don't want to dramatically change RPGC if there aren't a healthy number of people trying NaNo. So the headcount should give us a good idea of how much to support that.

Awesome!

Just so everybody's more or less on the same page -- our current thinking is, we're going to run more or less a standard RPGC contest, both for those who don't NaNo and for people (like me most years) who hit a super-hard writer's block on their NaNo effort and need something else to write about. At the same time, if your NaNo is going well, we'd love to read that too -- and if you haven't tried writing a novel yet, this is the perfect time to give it a shot. So we're going to incorporate NaNo into the RPGC contest *somehow*, so that you don't have to choose between the two. Of course you don't have to do both, or either, or whatever -- but this seems as good a place as any to generate some extra motivation for those slow wordcount days. We're gonna talk it over some more and come up with a good plan. If you have thoughts, do please share them -- the goal here is to make a contest you all like, so your feedback is absolutely crucial! And if you haven't checked out NaNo yet, definitely give it a look. It's a great experience.

I'm aiming to at least make halfway through the NaNo goal. I don't know if it'll happen, but I'mma do it. So, count me in on the headcount.

I'm also doing NaNo this year but I'm just continuing on the original novel series project I've been working on for years. Most likely not joining the RPGC because I'm not gonna bend my hard work to purposely fit for a one-time contest, but good luck to all those who are participating! :)

We're not sure exactly how we're going to structure it just yet, but if you're doing NaNo we want to bend the contest in all possible directions so that it can support you. That means we're not gonna make you fall in line with the theme of the month, or anything like that -- simply put we want to do whatever we can (including motivation, reading, reviewing, conversation, ideas around writer's block, etc.) to help you write your novel this month.
