Yeah I have no idea what the hell Weird Tales is on about. It's either "Quirky" or needlessly wrist-slashing grimdark.

I see Deadpool everywhere and Tony Stark's comedy antics. also

@DocTachyonAaaah, don't remind me of that. Really, it just seems like DC have no idea what the hell they're doing when it comes to movies lately, and the trailers for BvS and Suicide Squad don't exactly fill me with hope either. XD

@Weird Tales"Hell" is swearing now? Yeesh, talk about your political correctness gone mad.

One movie against several? I don't see how that makes dark dominant?

Man of Steel simply represents a lot of what's wrong with grimdark superhero movies.

Also, Winter Soldier and Iron Man 3 were pretty dark. Both the Hulk movies were dark. A whole lot of comics right now are super dark. Thor the Dark World was reasonably dark. I haven't seen it, but I understand the new FF was overly dark. Also, the X-Men movies have been pretty dark and political.

Iron Man 2 and 3 were comedy in my opinion. Both avengers had tons of jokes and Guardians of The Galaxy was pretty funny.

Guardians of the Galaxy was the tone comics had for over 50 years before the grimdark brigade started running the asylum. The only comic book movies in recent memory that actually felt like comic book movies were Captain America, Big Hero 6, Ant Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

I think that speaks VOLUMES about the level of darkness we're talking.

I'm honestly not too well-versed in western comics(which will probably come across in my character for sure) but honestly, um...

I've heard MANY comics fans complain about the direction they've gone in. This overly dark, miserable, death filled stuff. The movies are pretty dark too, though not always that bad(and I know they were dark but I still like the first two Dark Knight movies). But the comics have gone in this... revoltingly dark direction judging by what I've heard.

This seems like it's going for, well, serious plots, but a lot more over the top fun stuff. From what I understand, at least.

I'm not really interested in the extreme whimsy and nonsense of the full-blown silver age stuff either(well aside from reading about it) but this seems like it would be a happy medium that lets me get one of the tones I like for stuff.

That's not exactly a refutation. I love a lot of sloppy messes disguised as movies, I still watch X-Men Origins: Wolverine whenever it's on, but that doesn't mean it's not a bad movie.

Quite true. As lousy as it is, I still enjoy movies like the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. :P

Antman is the epitome of superhero movie done right, imo. Extremely light, fun movie to watch with a compelling plot and interesting characters. ;o

But, in terms of grimdark, I've read the first two issues of Extraordinary X-men and they've been heavy on the dark side, especially concerning Wolverine's past. (but that's to be expected, Logan's always been a grimdark character, though I enjoyed his stint in Japan)
