It had been a long night after a long day of rehearsals before the performance that she was due to be involved with her troupe of dancers at the Fabulous Fox Theatre in Atlanta. This was a major ballet performance, and Victoria had put in the countless number of hours needed to ensure that a seamless performance was given by her ballerinas. At long last, in the wee hours of the morning, the rehearsals were over as they decided to call it a night and rest up for the big day tomorrow. After saying her farewell to her dancers and asking them to rest well, she left the studio, one of the last to leave the building. On the way home, Victoria stumbled upon what she thought was a drunken man. As she past him, the drunken man seemed to stir, moving up and slowly staggered towards her, as he drew closer to her, she could see that he either looked horribly sick of something was terribly wrong with him. His skin seemed to be flaking off and the hue of his skin was a yellow tint. The sight of his eyes was not something she would forget ever. They were haunting, and definitely not of the living. She quickened her steps into a run, and soon left that abomination behind. The next day, news of an outbreak was all over the media channels.
History Before Outbreak:
Victoria was born into the Taylor family in London, England. Her childhood was ordinary, not unlike those of the common average well-to-do child living in the capital of England. Her family was well-off and had the basic necessities and luxuries that came along with what they could afford. At the age of sixteen, the Taylors immigrated to the United States, settling down in Atlanta, Georgia. Despite her parent's worries, Victoria didn't had much difficulties adapting to American culture and way of life. Apart from people making fun of her posh-sounding English accent and the occasional mix-up of British versus American english, the girl got along swimmingly.
As for her family, their financial status improved as her father took on a higher position that entitled him with more pay and benefits, including more time to spend with his daughter and wife. Father and daughter integrated themselves into American culture well, and soon became fans of both hunting and baseball alike, both popular hobbies in the States. Victoria would accompany her father on his hunting trips in the state and beyond, and as she grew older, he eventually taught her how to handle a gun, which included both a pistol and a hunting rifle that was atypical among hunters. She was a busy girl, not one to laze around and waste time doing nothing. When she wasn't occupied with music or dance related matters, she could be found playing baseball, a sport she took up in high school.
Her parents also signed her up for self-defense classes, and Victoria attended the Taekwondo classes in earnest. By the time she stopped, she had attained a blue belt. Joining Emory University after her application was approved was the first major step and that had all gone rather smoothly with her subsequent inclusion in the Populars clique which saw her mixing around with the elites of the school, the rich, the famous and the attractive. With her majoring in music and dance, it would not be surprising for her to be dancing or listening to music whenever she was hitting the books.
It was on this day that after a series of lectures and tutorials, Victoria would find herself in the library researching and reading up on the history of music and dance. It was there that she would meet someone special who would then become a big part of her life. A guy had come up to her and commented on how nice the books she was reading were. Seeing the blushing flustering guy had brought a smile on her face and that was the start of something new. They ended up going from a quirky friendship before it soon blossomed into a relationship and the two started dating. Her peers in the clique gave disapproving looks whenever they saw her hanging out with Jonas whom they had classified as a nerd. Well, Jonas was pretty nerdy back then, unlike compared to how the guy looks like now.
Despite protecting him from all the abuse he got from the girls and guys of the Populars, there was only so much she could do, not being with him twenty fours a day. It was on that perspective that Victoria thought that was had made their relationship eventually strained. Soon enough, the couple began distant and hardly talked, let alone hanged out in the following months following Jonas's graduation from university. Jonas soon graduated from Emory,and left without even biding farewell to Victoria. Roads leading in and out of the cities were clogged by a massive traffic jam as the whole city seemed to have a want to leave all at the same time. The city's infrastructure wasn't built or planned for such a thing, which thereby caused the massive traffic jam that prevented any headway from progressing. The freeways and highways out of Atlanta was facing the exact the fate. She had no doubts that similar incidents like these were happening all across the United States, and possibly the world. With neither of the vehicles seeming to go anywhere, panic started to seep into people as they began abandoning their own vehicles, heading off road on foot.
Victoria and family began camping out in the woods in the vicinity of Atlanta for several months until their supplies dwindled into nothing, be it from their own use or by theft from other survivors. There were numerous occasions where they managed to scare off scavengers, but sometimes there were just too many desperate people to fight with, and they had to part with a portion of their supplies in exchange for their lives.
After coming back from a scavenging trip one day, Victoria returned to the family campsite in the woods only to find the corpses of her parents. There were gunshot wounds to the head which could meant that they were executed or simply murdered. After digging out a grave big enough for both of her parents, she buried then and left the woods, making the decision to head back to Atlanta to hunt for supplies. It was there that Victoria would meet Jonas again.

Jonas grew up in a sheltered life, living in the northernmost city in New Zealand, Whangarei. Having brought up by his mother and father as an only child, they were very protective in him and were reluctant to even send him to a public school. He isn't the type of person to fight (even post-Outbreak), although his father's fear of bullying forced him to teach Jonas Taekwando, lessons that his father hid from his mother. He is a very kind soul with no real grasp on how to lie and cheat. Due to the fact that he was sheltered, he didn't really let go of some of his more childish traits, constantly worrying about travelling in the dark and keeping a small teddy bear in his bag to cuddle when he is left alone by Victoria. He isn't very serious, constantly joking and smiling on the road, even after the Outbreak.
He can't bring himself to killing other human beings and has some reluctance on killing walker children. However, he doesn't have any qualms with killing animals (from going out hunting with his grandfather) and walkers, his travelling partner calling him "a pretty decent shot". He isn't the type to swear or get angry, consistently trying to calm his fiercer girlfriend. His soft voice and calming attitude came from his role model and grandfather, a New Zealand sheep farmer that had a strange obsession with bread and an unforgettable personality. He also got his obsession of bread from him and the desire to become a baker.

Jonas had been the first man in the bakery, quickly finishing a batch of fresh cupcakes for the morning. His obsession for cooking and baking in particular usually made him the first one into the bakery, trusted enough by the owner of the place to open the bakery in the early morning. He started to hum to himself, smiling as he took a long whiff of the sweet cupcakes. It was for the students, these cupcakes, the ones that wanted to buy something for lunch. He picked the best one out and sprinkled some more sugar on it, saving it for a nice little girl named Charlotte that always came to the bakery.
He chuckled to himself, remembering her request of "more sugar!" with a cute little pout on her face. As he calmly set down the tray of cupcakes on the counter, picking out the worst ones and began to eat them with a distasteful look on his face. Boss didn't like wastefulness so he forced his employees to eat the worst cupcakes instead of throwing them in the bin. As he stood there, staring at the brightly lot bakery, munching on half-decent cupcakes, he heard a small shuffling noise coming from the basement. Deducing that it was just Boss lounging around in there, he walked up to the basement stairs and called out "Boss! It's your boy Jonas! Are you there mate?"
No reply came, only a loud groan in response. Becoming increasingly worried, he flipped the switch to the basement on and carefully walked down, getting near the door and knocking. He heard a louder groan, a small howl and the sound of a figure slamming against the door. "Uh, Boss? You all goods?" There was increased a slamming, a hole punctured through the flimsy wooden door, revealing a grotesque, diseased arm.
Jonas backed away quickly, letting out a quick yelp of surprise. "Yeah nah Boss, you should probably get that checked out." The groans only increased as the hand retracted before he made three more powerful slams against the door, eventually breaking it. The Kiwi gawked at the shuffling, unrecognisable form of Boss as it lunged at him. He screamed, turning around and running, going through the kitchen, quickly weaving through tables and chairs before sliding under the metal door shutter. He immediately closed it down, locking it out before huffing and puffing at the sudden rush of adrenaline. He reached for his phone only to find he dropped it in the bakery. Not that it mattered anyways. 911 was flooded with calls.

He toddled around the large vehicle before stopping before a high powered rifle.
"Gun!" He pointed at the wooden stick of death with a singular, chubby finger, shouting at the top of his lungs. His grandfather quickly ran over to him, gasping at the sight before placing a hand over his mouth and swiftly slinging his hunter's rifle over his shoulder. He knelt down on one knee, staring down at the toddler. "Okay, here's a deal. If you keep yer trap shut and don't snitch on me to yer Mum, I'll give you five bucks and a chance, when you're older, to learn how to shoot this thing right here." He gestured to the gun slung behind him with a small twinkle and then bringing out five dollars. History Since Outbreak:
After his brief but terrifying meeting with Boss and the realisation that his phone was back in the bakery, Jonas tried to calm himself down and call emergency services. It was still very early in the morning, a few days of light peeking through the horizon but he heard gunshots in the distance. He decided to walk the other way and take a longer route towards his house. There were very few people on the streets, most were homeless and just sleeping on the sidewalk. As he passed by an alleyway, he heard a loud crashing noise and screams coming from the shadows. His eyes widened and fear crept into him, forcing him to uncharacteristically leave and tuck himself deeper into his trench coat, pocketing his gloved hands.
Thankfully, the journey from the bakery to his apartment was a short walk and aside from that very brief altercation next to the alleyway, it felt like nothing happened. He quickly ran up the stairs of the old brick building, head swinging side to side, making sure no more of those things entered the building. He nervously opened his door and closed it behind him, locking it quickly. He let out a huge breath of air, as if he'd been holding it in for the whole trip. He hung his coat on a rack and picked up his phone, dialling 911. No response. He tried again. Dead. He reached for his secondary phone, Nokia smartphone just in case of emergencies and tried there. Same thing.
That was when Jonas was starting to really worry. He turned on the television and was immediately warned by a emergency broadcast, calling for people to go their nearest designated "safe-zone". He quickly packed as many supplies he needed though also taking things he wouldn't need such as his phone and charger, earphones, his teddy bear and his laptop. He shoved everything into his bag and used the GPS to make his way towards the safe zone. Outside, it was much more hectic now, streams of cars and people all heading for their safe zone. The endless screaming and the choir of honking noises were almost silenced by deafening gunfire nearby. It only made him run a little faster.
The Filipino weaved through the blockade of motor vehicles to cross the street, sometimes having to run over cars to get through. The gunfire was louder and the screams only intensified. This pushed him to face the soldier dressed in green camouflage, calling for everyone to calm down. He could've been younger than Jonas himself and was already dealing with a disaster like this? He only shook his head and snuggled himself further in his coat. The so-called "safe zone" was the ancient, large local library, turned into some "fortress" with soldiers armed with high-powered assault rifles walking through the masses. He scanned his eyes over the crowd before shaking his head, making a go for the stairs. Of one of those "things" were here, it would be a slaughter. He made his way onto the rooftop only to be stopped by another soldier in green, wearing an intimidating gas mask.
"What do you think you're doing here?" Although his voice sounded deep and macho, carrying a deadly Remington 700P, his hands were shaking with nervousness. Jonas stared up at the soldier with a curious expression. "Well, I'm not one of those 'things' if that's what you're asking."
The soldier aggressively shook his head before swiftly raising his gun to Jonas' head, clambering a round with a shaky hand. "Don't fucking lie with me, you infected piece of shit! Show your fucking bite mark! Huh bitch! Let me fucking kill you like I did my friend, huh? Let your brains splatter on the wall, is that what you fucking want, you piece of horse cock!?" The crazed man shouted at the top of his lungs shouting insults at the 27 year old man's head. Meanwhile, all his would-be-victim could do was stare the at barrel with wide eyes, heart beating a hundred miles an hour. His only thoughts were 'Oh god, I'm going to get gunned down by some raving lunatic.'
His fists clenched, tears forming in his eyes. He needed a way out of the situation. His gaze went downwards, at the soldier's wide open legs. He kicked hard. The soldier dropped down on his knees, dropping his gun and clutching his gonads. Jonas lunged to pick up the rifle and then hit his opponent's head with a quick snap with the butt of the gun, knocking him out in the end. He heard some more gunfire, some moving downstairs. He heard the loud screams cut short by the repetitive bang of the assault rifles. He nervously fumbled with the gun before deciding to rummage through the soldier's things, repeatedly saying sorry over and over again. Getting a good box of ammo, he sprinted towards a ladder leading down to one of the back alleyways and escaped.
A week later, as he was rummaging through a pharmacy store to look for painkiller, he met her once more. It was a quick and efficient technique, knocking his gun out of his hand and then immediately pointing her own to his head. "Don't move." He would've recognised the voice from a mile away. Tired and beaten, he started giggling at the sudden reunion, thinking back to the innocence of the olden days. When things were much more simple, in Emory University. He audibly gulped before he started to whisper in a calm, soothing voice "Victoria, remember me? It's Jonas, from college." He heard the sound of the gun arming, the weapon being pushed hard against his skull.
He was eventually able to calm her down from shooting him and persuade her into travelling with him outside of Atlanta. It was no longer safe there's the city was overrun by those things. The next few weeks were spent ducking and hiding the massive, roaming hordes that called Atlanta home, slowly making their way towards the outskirts of the city. When they escaped the city, they started to roam the state of Georgia, trying to do as many things as they could for survival. As the weeks turned into months and months into years, the two became closer, forming an inseparable bond together, forged through shared hardships and a love sparked in the wastelands of civilisation.

Your First Walker Encounter:
Jonas had been the first man in the bakery, quickly finishing a batch of fresh cupcakes for the morning. His obsession for cooking and baking in particular usually made him the first one into the bakery, trusted enough by the owner of the place to open the bakery in the early morning. He started to hum to himself, smiling as he took a long whiff of the sweet cupcakes. It was for the students, these cupcakes, the ones that wanted to buy something for lunch. He picked the best one out and sprinkled some more sugar on it, saving it for a nice little girl named Charlotte that always came to the bakery.
He chuckled to himself, remembering her request of "more sugar!" with a cute little pout on her face. As he calmly set down the tray of cupcakes on the counter, picking out the worst ones and began to eat them with a distasteful look on his face. Boss didn't like wastefulness so he forced his employees to eat the worst cupcakes instead of throwing them in the bin. As he stood there, staring at the brightly lot bakery, munching on half-decent cupcakes, he heard a small shuffling noise coming from the basement. Deducing that it was just Boss lounging around in there, he walked up to the basement stairs and called out "Boss! It's your boy Jonas! Are you there mate?"
No reply came, only a loud groan in response. Becoming increasingly worried, he flipped the switch to the basement on and carefully walked down, getting near the door and knocking. He heard a louder groan, a small howl and the sound of a figure slamming against the door. "Uh, Boss? You all goods?" There was increased a slamming, a hole punctured through the flimsy wooden door, revealing a grotesque, diseased arm.
Jonas backed away quickly, letting out a quick yelp of surprise. "Yeah nah Boss, you should probably get that checked out." The groans only increased as the hand retracted before he made three more powerful slams against the door, eventually breaking it. The Kiwi gawked at the shuffling, unrecognisable form of Boss as it lunged at him. He screamed, turning around and running, going through the kitchen, quickly weaving through tables and chairs before sliding under the metal door shutter. He immediately closed it down, locking it out before huffing and puffing at the sudden rush of adrenaline. He reached for his phone only to find he dropped it in the bakery. Not that it mattered anyways. 911 was flooded with calls.

Your First Walker Encounter:
Ash's first encounter with a Walker took place in the streets of Atlanta. He was one of the officers in charge of constructing the various "safe zones" in the city limits, providing water service, barricades, etc. Unfortunately, his orders gave detail for containing a viral outbreak with possible rioting. Local police were expected to handle looting and handle most of the crowd control.
The Powers That Be either didn't know what was really going on, else they simply didn't want to tell the soldiers on the ground. Either way, they were ill-equipped to deal with the threat when it came. The safe zone he was presently in charge of was overrun from the inside, courtesy of the already infected let in for "treatment". His first experience with a Walker came when it, and several others, burst out of a prefab medical shelter and began to eat his people.
Realizing the problem was far worse than he was led to believe, Ash got as many of his people that he could over to the nearest established military installation - Dobbins ARB.
History Before Outbreak:
Raised in a rural mountain town in Virginia, Ash was the youngest of three boys in a financially challenged household. Ends were met, and occasionally profit made, by the family tradition of the manufacture and distribution of illicit grain alcohol. Eventually, the family went legit after enough savings allowed them to purchase the necessary permits and a building. It was marketed as "Homestyle Appalachian Sippin' Whiskey". His childhood was somewhat rough, but manageable enough.
Upon completing High School, he was accepted into the Virginia Military Institute, where he received a Masters in Engineering. He had a keen mind and attention to detail that lent himself well to his new profession. After graduation, Ash spent the next few years assigned to various places of interest as a combat engineer before being pulled back to the States for reasons unknown.
Ash was assigned to work with the Army Corps of Engineers, Conservation Dept. in Marietta, GA, working alongside various medical organizations and investigative agencies on a project involving disease containment, urban evacuation, and the setting up of caches and safe zones to help facilitate these endeavors.
Several unintended deaths later, he received a battlefield promotion from Lieutenant to Captain. He literally had to pull his Captain’s Bars off of the corpse of the man he replaced, before putting a blade through his skull. Circumstances being what they were, the “battle” never technically ended, and his rank stuck.
History Since Outbreak:
When Atlanta fell, most of the Dobbins staff scattered, taking away everything they could carry or fit into a vehicle. Ash debated staying, fortifying a few of the inner buildings, but eventually abandoned this idea as it was impractical for the small number of personnel remaining to fully secure the area. This was exacerbated by the situation: people broke off into their own factions, resulting in massive infighting to hold onto what buildings and provisions they could claim. Survival was more likely were he to leave.
The next year saw him slowly returning to his hometown to see to his family’s safety. Heartbreak hit him when he found out that his mother was taken by Walkers and his long-term girlfriend had been missing since the outbreak, presumably run off or dead like so many others. He stuck around to see to friends and family. Fortifying his father’s distillery, he moved a good chunk of townsfolk in or around the complex.
A megaherd from Charlottesville shambled right up to their home unannounced and laid siege to the distillery. Some of the people inside thought it would be best to make a run for it, unwittingly letting the dead breach their defenses. Half of the people inside were killed in the ensuing battle, including his father and one remaining sibling.
Plan B: In the event that a scared, drunk asshole ruins the good thing they had going, the survivors were to hole up in the distillery’s motor pool and form a convoy, led by Ash’s personal engineering project, “The Hordebuster”. (looks a little like this) The ‘Buster is a large, hoary ware carrier/industrial truck, older model with easily machinable parts that runs on diesel (and alcohol). It has been armored, fitted with a monstrous cow-catcher, and loaded with enough spare parts, drums of fuel/booze, and supplies to keep it going for a long while. It’s even got a small sleeper cabin. Leading the way, the Hordebuster brought the remaining survivors, a good amount of supplies and a metric shit-ton of alcohol out of the chaos and onto the trucking roads of the Appalachians. (He’s entertaining outfitting it for light offroad work.)
Trekking westward, he found a lot of (formerly) high populated areas amid otherwise wide stretches of grass and nothing. The former populations (now undead) stayed clustered near the cities, for the most part, making supply runs dangerous to the extreme, the next place to restock usually perilously far away. Ash’s string of crappy luck and loss of more life, coupled by the harsh winter soured him to the prospect of making a life out that way.
New Plan: Find a warm place with a very long growing season, preferably surrounded by deep water with a smaller original population. One of the smaller islands in the Florida Keys seemed ideal. A stop in Kentucky refilled their supplies of pure grain alcohol (the scamps), and the Virginia group barreled down through Tennessee. Somewhere near Murfreesboro, a supply run at a truck stop had Ash meeting up with fellow Dobbins ARB survivor Lt. Colonel Leann McCormick.
Convincing her that the northern route was slightly more suicidal than returning south, Leann and a particularly offputting Doctor joined his group. They traveled back into Georgia, moving around I-285 at first to pick up military caches his Engineering teams set up before Atlanta fell to supply their new mission. On the way, their caravan grew as they found other survivors willing to help and accept their leadership.
Around the Atlanta South area, Leann (whom he still referred to as “Colonel”) approached Ash with a suggestion: Newnan, GA. Tactical and practical reasons were given as to why it would be a favorable location. After some discussion on the matter, Ash relented with the proviso that, if it fell through, they resume his plan for Florida.
Settling in, he submitted to her experience on the issue, and began working toward making Newnan a home.
