What about the name Mohs for the town? It is simple. It is pronounced like Moss which would fit the land around this town and it also it the name of the scale of hardness for Gems.

That would be acceptable to have a human that wishes to fight with the Gems and protect Earth. Plus it will be nice to have more than two humans.

I haven't really discussed powers or how many we all should be allowed. I am pretty sure I will be allowing one power per Gem but not sure if there will be more.
