Current Ever had that moment were you've just lost a battle of wills with your dog and think to yourself, "maybe I should be the one sleeping on the floor"? I have. It's oddly liberating.

My Lit Lecturer used Matt Fraction's Hawkeye run to display the effect of narratology in class today. It's the first thing he's spoken about all term that I've actually read.

How good is the Punisher in Netflix's Daredevil series? "Just some guys who are about to walk into a diner for the last time." That line is so manly it could make a toddler sprout a beard.

The Justice League trailer is giving me mixed emotions. On the one hand, I desperately want to get hyped. On the other, Snyder and co have burnt me too many times in the past. I'm a conflicted mess.

Do you guys think Gravikinesis would be too over-powered to consider?

No more than telekinesis, telepathy, shape-shifting, density control, the ability to fire optic blasts etc. Every power has the oppurtunity to be exploited into being overpowered. The key is the limitations and drawbacks you, as the player, place upon your character.
Why does everyone outside of Aus think it's the Golden Coast?

I now know where every single OC character I ever create for an RP in which you are participating in will be from.
@BlackSam3091 Well now I gotta ask. Does he sparkle? ;)

@Lord Wraith@Hillan Cheers guys.

@DrewVonAwesome Also Drew, I noticed your request in Darren's bio. I can't have William beat him up, as that goes against the guys natural aversion to physical violence, but he could have given him a emphatic whammy. Say 'Biggie D' starts getting uppity, being a jerk, calling everyone else at the school freaks, well then Outsider walks up to him, looks him straight in the eye, and then makes him so terrified of his own shadow that for the next six hours he pisses himself in terror every time he glimpses it, or so attracted to real-oak furnishings that he spends the rest of the day rubbing himself up against the stairwell banisters of the X-mansion, crazy stuff like that. (Bad examples, I know, but it's early goddammit, and I haven't had my coffee.)

I'm starting to think that maybe they are right about me. That maybe I am a monster.

BIRTHNAME:
William Irving

NICKNAME(S):
N/A

ALIAS(ES):
Outsider

SEX:
Male

AGE:
18

APPEARANCE:
Stands at 5'9" and appears to have a tight, powerful, gymnast like physique when fully 'fed', though if he waits to long before 'eating' this can fade into a far more fragile, skeltal frame.

None of his fellow students can be quite sure what he looks like as he only ever goes out hooded and masked. His mask is a simple thing of brushed metal, crudely moulded into the shape of a skull. There's been a lot of exotic rumours about where he got it from, but the mundane truth is he bought it on ebay. His hood is attatched to the dark greatcoat that he wears.

ABILITIES:
Psionic vampirism
William's mutation forces him to feed off the psionic energy of those around him. If he doesn't feed then he will gradually grow ill and die. Just being in close proximity to someone is enough for William to get a 'drip' effect that will keep him sustained, with no real lasting effects to the individual he is draining, other than an increase likliehood for negative moods.

However if William decides that he needs a faster, more effective way of feeding on anothers energy he merely needs to initiate skin-to-skin contact. It merely requires several seconds of uniterrupted tactile contact for William to drain a regular person empty, leaving nothing more than a shrivened husk in it's place, though William has vowed never to do such a thing. For this reason William always goes out with every inch of skin covered, so there is no risk of accidentally hurting others. Even his mask doesn't come off in public.

Slightly-Above peak human potential
When fully fed on psionic energy he is preternaturally strong, fast, durable and agile. Of special note is his reflexes, as they are nearly instantaneous. However the longer he goes without feeding the less powerful he becomes, to the point that if he has gone several days without contact with another human then he will wither to the point of being as weak as a week-old kitten.

Emphatic Manipulation
William has access to low level empathic manipualtion, enabling him to, with effort, affect the moods of those around him. By his very nature he causes a slight increase in negative emotions in all those around him, though with some eye-to-eye contact and concentration he can reverse these effects, bringing joy, happiness or good humours to others. Conversely he may wish to make his enemies fear him, or force them to hate each other, fighting amongst themselves. A being of sufficiently strong will can resist him however. Any use of emphatic manipulation weakens him considerably, requiring him to 'feed' far more often.

BIOGRAPHY:
  • Born to Ben and Virginia Irving in a small, church going town in middle-America. His mother dies due to complications with childbirth, a fact that William's father never forgave him for, treating him coldly for the rest of his life, though as a churchgoing, God-fearing man he never goes so far as to beat his son.
  • As William grows older he seeks solace from his family home in the church, where he enjoys the company of the charismatic, charitable reverend Elijah Freeman, and the reverends daughter, Sophie, a girl of William's age.
  • William and Sophie begin a romantic relationship, one they attempt to consummate after William has turned sixteen. However William's mutation makes itself known during his excitement, and he accidentally nearly kills Sophie. After phoning an ambulance he flees to his church, seeking both guidance and protection. An angry mob attempts to burn down the church to kill William. Ben attempts to stop them, as although he resents his son for his perceived role in killing Virgina, he doesn't want to lose him. Ben fails, being hospitalized in the process. William would have willfully died in the burning church if not for the intervention of the X-men, come to help a mutant in need.
  • William is taking to the mansion were he is convinced to join the school. Through correspondence he learns that Sophie has recovered, and her father was at her bedside during the mob burning of the church. Neither hold ill-will towards him, but note that it would be safer for him to remain among his 'own people'.

MISC. NOTES:
  • While William doesn't want to allow himself to grow close to others in fear of hurting another like he hurt Sophie, his powers force him to form connections to others just to stay alive. He can't allow himself to die as he believe that would be akin to suicide, and that is a sin in the eyes of God. That, and it's incredibly difficult to allow yourself to starve to death.
  • Though he typically has a non-violent disposition, part of his tuition at Xavier's has been in combat, as Bobby Drake think's he has the ability to become an excellent X-man. William prefers soft to hard martial arts.
  • Apparently under his mask William is badly burnt, though if that is true or not is anybody's guess.
  • Despite popular belief at the Mansion, he is not a goth. He isn't even entirely sure what a goth is.
  • Neither does he sparkle in the sun. Stop asking him if he sparkles.

WILLIAM IRVINES'S RELATIONSHIP SHEET
// Friend // Acquaintance // Frenemy // Rival // Enemy // Crush //

  • Lucas Raymond Pilgrim
Lucas, like William, knows what it's like to feel abandoned by those closest to you. An ironic shared experience to bond over, to be sure, but there it is. Lucas was one of the first students at Xavier's to welcome William, a fact that the masked teen is unlikely to forget.
  • Ryan Martin Lebeau
William's found Ryan to be a mixed experience. On the one hand he can be intelligent, determined and charming. On the other he can be just a whole bag of dicks to those around him for no real reason whatsoever. For the life of him William just can't figure out why someone who has so much going for him could want to act like such a tool.
  • Darren Grey
Darren Grey once held the title of being the most arrogant, entitled, aggravating young man in the mansion. He's come a long way since those early days though, a real turnaround for the books, and William respects the Aussie immensely for his dedication to self-improvement. However the masked teen can't quite forget how Darren used to act, regardless of how hard he tries.
  • Allison Andrews
The prettiest girl in school, or at least she is in William's eyes. On top of that she came to the school through her own choice, to help people. That level of compassion has become rare in today's cynical world. Unfortunately it is clear to see how uneasy he makes her feel, and how little she enjoys being anywhere near him. It's probably better that way though, for everyone involved.
  • Hollie Hollens
Hollie Hollens is stuck up, sarcastic and full of her own self importance. She might have many sterling redeeming qualities, but has never deigned to give William the time of day, so he's had no chance to observe them.
  • Nathaniel Nicholas Anderson IV
William hardly knows Nathaniel at all. He spends a lot of time with Holly, circles the masked teen stays clear from. He seems pleasant enough though. One sure fact is that, psionically speaking, Nathaniel is far more powerful than the regular 'joe', and his latent power seems to provide more succor than most.
  • Llavi Arutro De La Rosa
Another student William has had very little interaction with. Some think Llavi's powers are gross, and judge him accordingly. William scoffs at that small mindedness. Things could be much worse than having 'gross powers'. William has seen the cold shoulder Llavi receives at school, and has decided to attempt to reach out more to the foreign boy, much like what Lucas once did for him.
  • William Alexander
William has grown quite fond of his younger namesake. That may come as a surprise to those who can't countenance the morose, brooding, psionic vampire being able to stomach the exuberantly cheerful aerokinetic, but it's Will's cheerfulness that the older teen finds so endearing. Notably he seems to be one of the few people who's mood isn't affected by being in William's presence. William has grown quite protective of the younger boy.
  • Heidi Keller
If 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend', does that mean for the crush of one of your friend is also your friend? Probably not, but the masked teen tries to treat her less coldly than he does others for Lucas's sake. He doesn't know Heidi well, but Lucas holds her in high esteem, and that's coloured William's opinion of her.
  • Daniel Aiden Green
Most people at school are uncomfortable around William. William's uncomfortable around Daniel. He constantly feels like he must walk upon eggshells around the red head, in fear of being on the wrong end of some moralising lecture. Plus, he smells funny, and odd sweetness hanging around the air whenever Daniel is nearby. William is told that's the price of being a vegan. That, and he can be uncomfortably forthright about his desire to lay with Colossus.

The Man of T.O.Morrow

S.T.A.R Labs, Manhattan, New York

Two A.I.M operatives, garbed in yellow body armour, stood at the window upon the fifth floor of the S.T.A.R labs building, tasked with observing and reporting on the actions of the police blockade. They didn't even bother trying to conceal their position, for while they were aware that there was no doubt dozens of NYPD sharpshooters on the surrounding buildings training high-powered rifles upon their forms, they were contemptuous of the threat they proved. A.I.M held all the cards here, and the police knew it. After the initial, disastrous push the two burnt out cruisers had made, it had been made very clear that if the law so much as took one more step towards the lab then hostages would start to die.

The sudden arrival of Iron Man had given the two lookouts pause for thought, though not been enough to worry them unduly. The appearance of 'super-heroes' was becoming more and more of a regular occurrence, and it would have been exceedingly remiss of the Imperial Council, A.I.M's ruling hierarchy, if they hadn't made provisions for at least one costumed avenger. What those provisions were, well the two look-outs weren't exactly sure, but they had certainly been told that they were in place.

One lookout contacted their leader to inform him of Iron Man's appearance, but the Golden Avenger left just as quickly as he arrived, flying into the distance. More communications were passed up the chain of command to appraise them of the bizarre development, while the second lookout gawked in the direction that Stark had left in.

“I don't believe it, he's actually leaving!”

So busy where they watching the skies that they didn't see the police cordon retreat.

“Then you're right not to believe it, because he wont be. He'll just be finding somewhere to settle in for a long haul, hoping to hold us at siege. Mark me, we'll get a call from Stark soon enough, telling us that our situation is hopeless and we'd be better served by surrendering.”

“Heh. You think?”

“I know. He wont risk us harming the hostages if he tries to storm the place, but he'll be afraid of losing his 'media darling' reputation if he just runs. He'll hang back, trying to make it look like he's in control of the situation. But he's not. We are.”

THOOOOORRRMM-CRASH!!

"What the hell was that!? Did you hear that!?"

"Of course I head it! I think that crash was a window breaking down a level. Stay here and radio the captain, I'll go and check out downstairs." The two A.I.M operatives split up, one hurrying down the corridor towards a well-signed stairwell, the other frantically radioing his superiors. After several failed attempts that achieved nothing more than static he came to the realization that their signals were being blocked.

Suddenly it didn't feel like A.I.M was quite as in control of the situation as they had thought.

Tony burst through the doors of the wide, circular meeting room in the center of S.T.A.R labs that A.I.M was using to hold it's forty-seven hostages, clocking in at over two hundred kilometers an hour, dragging all sorts of debris in his wake, but he still managed to come to a complete and total stop in less than five meters, right in the midst of the hostages and hostage-takers.

Thank God for inertia dampers.

A.I.M hadn't even had time to properly process his sudden appearance before he'd laid out two of their number, firing quick-fire consequtive repulsor blasts that hit them both dead center.

"What th--" A third operative managed to blurt out before he too ate his share of repulsor. A half dozen more fell to the smart-flechette's that fired from his shoulder launchers, each one a blunt projectile powered by a miniature rocket and guided by Stark-micromunition technology, perfect for non-lethal anti-personel deployments.

To become a member Advanced Idea Mechanics a potential applicant must have, at the very least, a master's degree in some area of science, mathematics, or business, though a Ph.D would hold one in better steading. It meant that every member of A.I.M was a thinking man. And what does a thinking man do?

He thinks, of course. And every moment that a man spends thinking is a moment that he doesn't spend acting. It's why A.I.M made imperfect soldiers, as the hair-trigger reactions so revered in the likes of Deathstroke or Captain America just couldn't be found among their numbers, so absorbed with the cause and effect of all their actions. This kind of attack would never have worked on Hydra agents, mercenaries, or even regular old bank robbers. As soon as Tony had burst into the room one of them would have panicked and shot a hostage. Not so with A.I.M. In A.I.M it was drilled into them from day one, their own personal golden rule; always use your head. Well that golden rule was working agains them today.

Still, it only afforded Iron Man seconds, and already there was some A.I.M levelling their weapons towards the hostages, who were just now realizing what was happening, all of them beginning to scream or cry for help.

"J.A.R.V.I.S, now!" An oval panel upon the Iron Man's right thigh popped open, and with it came an ungodly high, ear piercing shriek. Yellow garbed operatives and hostages alike fell to the floor writhing in agony. Stark Technologies had long since utilized sonic based weaponary, though the rest of the worlds militarys were still way behind on that particular curve. Apparently A.I.M was too, seeing as they hadn't insulated their suits to such an attack. Tony took the time to knock out the final hostiles before turning the sonic generator off. There was a few cries of relief from the hostages.

That was the problem with AOE attacks, they didn't discern between friend and foe. Still, if they were asked Tony was willing to bet most would rather a ringing in their ears for a few weeks rather than a bullet to the head. And no one could argue with the results. Fourteen A.I.M operatives downed in about five seconds.

Hurray for superior firepower!

"Alright folks, funs not over yet. You all need to stay here while I clear the rest of the building." He could see from the confused expressions that no one was quite clear on what he'd said. Probably something to do with them all nearly being deafened less than a minute before. Maybe sonic weaponary wasn't the most useful tool in the kit after all. With a sigh he made a second attempt, gesticulating wildly to help hammer home his point.

"You all stay here! Still not safe!" That didn't work much better. With a frustrated groan he flipped open the visor of his mask. Surely someone here could lip read. They were supposed to be geniuses, after all!

"STAY. HERE."

One woman, slightly overweight, mid thirties, mousy brown hair and wearing a pristine white lab coat, stood forwards before shouting a query at him.

"Are you going after Professor Morrow?"

"Wait, what. . . Professor Thomas Morrow? Where is he?" It didn't look like the woman really heard the question, but she was aware enough to piece together what Tony's response was in context.

"Two of those guys took him about two minutes ago. Looked like they were heading upstairs." It suddenly felt like Tony's stomach was trying to fall through the floor. His visor flipped back into position.

"J.A.R.V.I.S scan the building again." J.A.R.V.I.S was potentially the most advanced A.I. computer system on the planet, able to run hundreds of thousands of processes simultaneously without even the barest drop in efficiency. Scanning a building like this would take it micro-seconds, and yet it still seemed to take to damn long for Tony. Much as he hated to admit it, he'd been duped. Of course A.I.M had an end game here, they wouldn't have just marched into S.T.A.R and starting taking hostages for the thrill of it. Professor Morrow had always been their target, while the other hostages had just been a diversion.

And he'd been too eager to play the hero to even realize it. Guess there was something to be said about thinking about your actions before actually taking them after all.

"Sir," came the measured, immeasurably calm, and unmistakably British tones of J.A.R.V.I.S. "There is still another nine individuals in the building, three of which are nearing the roof. One of the three isn't armed or armoured in any A.I.M gear.

Tony cursed. If they were going to the roof that could only mean one thing. No one ran to the roof unless they had a plan to get off the roof.

"One more thing sir. It appears that an A.I.M VTOL gunship has just arrived upon the scene. Engines are hot and chances are good that it is here for extraction.

Typical.

He hated being right.
Oh I love a good X-Men story, are you still accepting characters?

Yes they are. OOC is this way.
I have never ever seen it hyphenated :L, and I love the stuff.

It's always hyphenated. . . other than when it's misspelled, of course.

The Barr logo is cunningly incorporated into the stylized hyphen.

And furthermore if you look on their website you'll see that it's constantly and consistently hyphenated.

And you have the gall to call yourself a Scotsman.
Excellent. Though you don't need the '-' there son.

Barr would certainly disagree.

If there aren't to many people already I would like to join in as well ^^

The OOC is live now buddy.
