Miroslav began counting the number of dents the table had, his face completely tilted sideways. He would've made a grunt, or even a gesture to tell Adrian to keep his grubby hands to himself, that he wasn't going to drown anytime soon. He was just tired, and bruised.

"Comfy table. Blargh." He eventually muttered. People came and went. Heck, the waitress had gone and come back, and then Adrian had decided to give the waitress a day.

More like play doctors and nurses instead of tending to the goddamn bar. Miroslav sighed profoundly, and put both hands on the table, rising once more like one of the living dead.

"Alright, folks..." He said before deftly jumping over the barstand. "Just tonight, you'll have crazy Miro special." He muttered. It's the last time I do shit like this for you Adrian. Why does the shady barman gets more action than me, who kicks militar asses and chews bubblegum? He added.

Now let's hope I don't mess up with the concussion. He added, as he promptly began juggling the drinks and serving like there was no tomorrow.

Vitruvius

Name:Vitruvius Moondew
Age: 2000 ish. He can't really remember if it is 2004 or 1998 or anything inbetween.
Attire/Appearance: Vitruvius is a 6' tall elf of lean build, with silver hair that hangs loosely until past the shoulders, pale skin and green eyes which despite his age, still spark vividly. He usually is seen sharp dressed in a gray tuxedo, alongside a delicatedly-crafted cane. Sometimes he can be seen in state-of-the art military gear of dull earthen colors, alongside a cloak to shield him from the rigors of expeditions.
Race: (Immortal) Elf - A rare subset of elves, which live much longer than their kin, with no maximum lifespan ever recorded.
Gender: Male
Occupation: Sorcerer, Scholar and Commander of Wasteland Expeditions.
Location: North End- Nominally. He spends a lot of time outside the city, recruiting people in the South End, and visiting other wards for information.
Alliance: Hierarchy- Albeit he's significantly more lenient on humans than most.
A Brief History: Vitruvius for the most part, was a rather typical elf in the first centuries of life. Always maturing slowly, with class and elegance, obeying his elders, and developing his magical talent. He performed rather acceptably and enjoyed life in society somewhat. Slowly but surely, he climbed the society's ladder, eventually replacing his elders as a part of the elven elite among the city of Enigma. He also became engaged, and produced offspring. But somewhere, sometime along the way, he felt something was ...different.

He wasn't showing signs of slowing down, or age, or anything related to it whatsoever. All while his kids grew up and his wife became older, he pretty much stayed the same. Even for an elf, it seemed excessive. Setting aside the political scene for a while, and an Elder position, he sought out to solve the enigma of his existence.

The truth of it shook him to the core. Apparently, he had the gift of eternal life, as he was an immortal elf. It was a blessing in a sense, but said blessing had destroyed the minds of those fellow immortal elves before him, through millenia of strife, until the point they had become raving maniacs or committed suicide. He decided to not let it affect him, but eventually, his wife died, and his children were now adults. He could not watch them aging in his sight, so he opted out to settle for an option that would benefit everyone.

He would routinely keep scouring the world to gather info, and defend the city of Enigma until his last, becoming an eternal defender and explorer for the thousands of years he could potentially have, until the city crumbled before his eyes, or he would be struck fatally and be freed into the afterlife. Along the way, he found out that the humans, with their ingenuity and short lives were often the foil to his woes, and also a ready, quick to recruit workforce in his expeditions, plagued with death and injury. He eventually came to enjoy the company of them, and questioned if the conditions that they had been living in were perhaps a bit too harsh.

Other: He absolutely refuses to take an Elder seat or high political profiles, he's danced that jig before and it was far from pleasant. He has a rather good sense of humour for someone so old.

@AtomicNut I'm sorry. I use trope to mean trends in stories. They evolve even as stories do, with deconstructions and reconstructions, and even new ideas emerging. In my opinion there's nothing wrong with fitting into an established theme -- nor with defying it. It's more a tool that some people use, and a way of comparing and contrasting commonalities in different works. Yeah, a shortcoming of them is that they simplify things a great deal, in many instances. But the idea is that there are many variations on a basic theme, and as with so much else when it comes to writing and rp, it's all in the execution. Drawing on previous works or charting new territory, it comes down to how well the person handles their ideas, not whether the ideas are new.

I didn't say your idea was a trope, I simply indicated that it falls under the umbrella of one. You yourself said you wanted the "greedy jerk attitude that comes with [dragons]". You could call it a standard characteristic, but the idea there is the same. There's a theme that occurs often enough to be called a trend. I'll try to avoid the word if you dislike the implications, though.

I'm not sure what you mean by the site proper, nor about outside of it. Could you clarify?

Oh, I see. I should be the one apologizing, my bad. I'm used to the whole word trope as the ones used on the Tvtropes website. Which in fact is a big compilation of such apparent trends. And also something i've witnessed being abused on websites other than the proper website. Which has annoyed me to no end.

As a side comment, the Ring of the Nibelungs, also the Nibelunglied tells the exploits of a certain Siegfred who forged a sword out of a meteorite and went to kill a dragon named Fafnir (which in turn, was a dwarf who had been cursed by his own greed upon killing his kin over a treasure of certain folks called the Nibelungs). Of course Siegfred keeps the eponymous ring and is in turn cursed to misfortune after a series of events.

You might want to read the story, it's kinda entertaining. Also one of the sources for Tolkien's writings.

@AtomicNut I'm not sure what the Ring is about aside from a quick web search, so I'm not sure what you were drawing on. Tropes are common across works, so if you're using something from a work that fits a trope, it's still the trope, even if the trope itself wasn't the source of your inspiration. Greedy dragon is a trope, regardless of what made you want to use it.

I know you're changing plans -- and am eager to see your new ideas.

See, that is the issue. I do believe tropes oversimplify and belittle older works by being employed out of the site proper, and by argument of precedence tropes are but oversimplified imitation of the original work. What would Richard Wagner think of part of his compilation of Siegfred/Sigurd's myth being called a trope? I for once, feel rudely belittled by having my ideas called a trope outside of the site proper, so I would request politely to not use such.

@AtomicNut You don't /have/ to go with tropes, you know. They're tools, and if you've got a good personality, you could craft a race that would fit it, or just pick a race and disregard the norm. Not all individuals in a given race are a certain way. *shrug* That's the way I see it, at least. But I'd think humanoid dragons would have the same sort of basic tendencies, if that's what you're going for. Regardless of what path you take, I look forward to seeing what you come up with. ^.^

I am not going with tropes. I merely took a leaf out of the Ring of the Nibelungs. Why does everyone think of tropes? I fucking hate that. Also I already said no to that idea, so please stop repeating it.

@AtomicNut Maybe make him something else with a similar past? Like...Iunno, something else that can fly, so...a hippogriff might work, or a gryphon, or...

Oh, or you could make him either a human-looking creature able to sprout dragon wings or whatever, or always in a half-dragon form. Handle the going out on his own when not very strong/not a good fighter by saying they mature physically much faster than humans -- maybe over the course of just a couple years?

I wasn't going dragon for the looks nor the flight, i was going for the greedy jerk attitude that comes with them. So, I'll have to design a new personality that can fit a race. From scratch. Half-measures won't do it justice.
