I actually like the concept. I’m not sure if I’ll join, but I am interested.

You saw it here first, folks.

T H E S T O R Y S O F A R... Zachary Zatara was born to two kind parents. His uncle, Giovanni "John" Zatara, and his daughter Zatanna, had great fame as stage magicians and real magicians on their own. This however was not the case for Zachary’s family mostly due to his mother. Zachary's mother, who was a pure Homo Magi, was determined to make sure her family had nothing to do with magic. She wanted a normal life for her family. To ensure this, she placed a charm on Zachary that would seal his powers as a Homo Magi. Of course, Zach always knew his family had magical abilities, but he assumed that he was a rare case since his father was a human. Stopping Zachary's magic could not stop him from being different than other children though. He not only buried himself books most kids his age would be too young to understand, but also had a keen interest in learning about magic and stage. He grew distant from others, and spent his time pursuing his interests. He found most of school boring. As a result, he never really had any friends. After various strange visions in his dreams and study sessions, Zachary learned that something might be stopping him from reaching his true potential. So, he decided to pay a visit to his uncle at the age of 16. His uncle confirmed this and told him there was a seal made by his mother that was preventing him from being able to use magic. During said visit, his parents went on a business trip and things didn’t necessarily turn out as planned. Because of some drunken driver, they got in a car accident which killed them instantly. Even with this tragic event a good thing did come out of it. The spell that was placed on Zachary was gone since his mother was dead. Zach had always quietly felt guilty for being happy that the seal on his magic was removed, because his parents had to die for it to happen. Ever since then, Zachary has been spending more time with his cousin, and also using his abilities to become a hero and a famous stage magician. He learned everything he knows about magic from his cousin. He is a successful YouTuber with over a million subscribers, and he’s trying to live up to the Zatara name while also forging his own legacy. Unlike Zatanna, who is respected and revered, Zach often finds himself underestimated, and that drives him to push harder. Whether he’s saving the world with flashy spells or dealing with the fallout of his magical mistakes, one thing is always true: The Show Must Go On! I would also like to mention that this version of Zach is gay. Why? Because I want to that’s why. :P P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S ) P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S ) Zach Zatara has so much potential, but canon DC does nothing with him. In most canon appearances, Zach is treated as little more than Zatanna’s bratty cousin. I’m here to correct that. I want to give Zach the arc he deserves. In this version, he’s more than a stage magician with a famous relative. He’s a young Homo Magi reclaiming his narrative, trying to live up to a legacy he was actively kept away from. When his powers were sealed by his own mother, Zach assumed he simply wasn’t gifted like the others in his family. It wasn’t until her tragic death that the seal broke, and with it came power, guilt, and a lingering fear that maybe he didn’t earn this. He’s got something to prove now, to the world and to himself. Zach has a lot of untapped magical potential, but he’s kind of a noob. Part of his arc is learning control, restraint, and the ethics of magic. He wants to be more than Zatanna’s cousin. Through hero work, stage performances, and his rising internet fame, Zach is carving out an identity that’s all his. Zach hides behind humor and bravado, terrified of vulnerability. I want him to confront those walls. Whether through relationships, grief, or his responsibilities. The cost of the spotlight: What happens when a hero is also a content creator? What if his need for validation from an audience becomes a liability in high-stakes situations? He’ll have to navigate public perception, parasocial relationships, and the pressure to be “on” 24/7. |
