"Ches!" Bravos yelped in pain when Hippopotas bit his vines, then proceeded to scream as it got tossed around until the Hippo Pokémon slammed Bravos against the wall.

"Bravos!" Archie called out to his Chespin who grunted in pain from being wall-slammed. Not only that but the Sandstorm was gradually dealing damage to his and Audrey's Pokémon too. He gritted his teeth. They needed to finish this fight fast before it's too late.

As Audrey told Rift to attack the Hippopotas, Archie thought of the same thing too. Since Cacnea's Sand Veil ability was making it hard for them to land a hit on it, they needed to focus on the other Pokémon that they could attack.

"Bravos, listen carefully! I want you to retract your vines and use the momentum to launch yourself at the Hippopotas. Attack him with your hard spikey helmet!" He told his Chespin.

"Chespin, Ches!" Bravos said in agreement. "Ches..." it readied itself and launched itself from the wall, closing the distance between itself and the Hippopotas as the vines got shorter. "Pin!" Bravos aimed its spiky helmet head at the enemy, hoping it would damage the opponent.

"HA! Eat dirt, sucka!"" Archie yelled triumphantly when his plan kind of worked in their favor towards the end. It's so satisfying seeing a a smug person get instantly hit by karma. Even Bravos couldn't help but giggle when the thief tripped on the Pokéball. This gave them the chance to catch up to him and trap him in an alleyway.

"Wha- You really wanna battle? Fine, let's do this!" Archie said defiantly as he and Audrey get ready to fight. He looked at Bravos and grinned at his Pokémon. Bravos looked a little hesitant at Archie but seeing the excitement and the determination in its Trainer's eyes made it inspired too. They both nodded in agreement. "A true hero always defeats the bad guys! Let's do this, Bravos!"

"Ches! Ches!" Bravos the Chespin hopped onto the battle as the sandstorm raged around them. Their Rotom phones hovered before them and gave them valuable information regarding their opponents.

"Okay, uh..." As Audrey directed her Zorua to attack, Archie took a quick look in the Rotom to see the moves his Chespin currently knows. "Got it! Bravos, use Vine Whip on Hippopotas!"

"Ches... Pin!" Bravos released two green vines from its body, then used the vines to attack the Hippopotas at a distance.

"Heya there, Rift! Nice to meet you! This is Bravos, my partner!"" Archie cheerfully greeted Audrey's Zorua as Bravos timidly waved its paw at the two. He joined Audrey to go out the lab, glancing numerous times ar Adriane. He wanted to talk to her so badly but something within him told him it wasn't the right time yet. Perhaps he felt it in himself that he's not worthy of his champion's attention yet. As Archie nodded in response to Audrey and left the lab with her, he was determined to become a Trainer confident enough to be like Adriane.

While his wrist was in Audrey's hand, Archie reached out and grabbed Bravos' paw so they could walk together. He was beaming with anticipation in starting an adventure with Bravos and alongside new friends too with Audrey and Rift.

Just as they got out of the building, they heard the voice of an old woman screaming as a thief stole her belongings. Archie immediately ran with Audrey to try and catch up with him. "Che-Ches!" Bravos, after a moment of hesitation, ran to follow his Trainer. The boy and his Chespin were quite fast, more than Audrey but the thief was a tad bit faster too.

"Stop!" Archie yelled at the thief while running. "I'm gonna try something!" He said to Aubrey as he picked up one of his Pokéballs and threw it with as much force as he could muster, aiming it right at the thief's head.

If it helps, most Filipinos are very religious Catholics. We have festivals and holidays honoring various saints and religious figures in some towns. I was also raised Catholic and having Bible verses being read in every mass we attend is a normal thing for us. Even though I'm not into practicing my religion as much as I did in the past, you can say I based this on the people I see growing up.

Also, I get why we rarely see religious people being portrayed in horror/supernatural/mystery themed media because they're a touchy, sensitive subject and it might make people uncomfortable. I'm also not using this character to spread and force religion unto others. My aim in making this character isn't to mock people like Serena. I'm just basing her actions on how a religious person would react if they were in that situation.

The idea of playing a religious character in this setting just came to me on a whim, and I always give my all in everything I do. This is my first time playing a character like Serena and trust me, I don't like playing as someone who thinks my 'lifestyle' is a sin. Like I said before, I just thought it was fun to try something new. ^-^
V E R N A

"I am Verna Amaryllis. 39 years old. Single with no children. My hobbies are... My hobbies...

Verna stared at herself in the mirror, her long wavy hair clung to her wet skin as she got out of the shower. She kept repeating the same lines to herself over and over again. He said it should help her regain her sense of self-identity. She thought it was a load of crap.

She's been living in a unit ever since he saved her from that desolate place. Weeks passed, or has it been months? Honestly, Verna couldn't tell. She's been walking against the walls of her unit, her hands feeling the walls. It was small and a bit grungy, but she'd never felt more at home.

"I was a linguistics professor at a university before I got reassigned to this project. Before that, I was-"

A murderer, and a good one at that.

She sighed and rubbed her face before running her fingers along her hair. She's been through countless missions, impersonated so many people, and lived under the shadow of lies more times than she could count. How was this so hard for her? Had she forgotten how to be a genuine person?

In this day and age, what does being genuine even mean anyway?

Verna toweled herself and went to her room, loading up a holographic screen that showed details of her new identity, hopefully her last one at that. All the information she could read right now was provided by her; he helped made some tweaks here and there to make sure everything was believable.

Verna Amaryllis. Female. 39 years old. Single. Linguistics expert.

She sat on her bed and looked at the picture of herself displayed on the screen. Hard to believe that everything could change in an instant, yet here she was getting ready for another mission. Shouldn't she be dead, or maybe burned under a thousand stars to atone for her sins? Was she even worthy of forgiveness?

Maybe it's not too late, Verna could turn herself in to the galactic police, or if there's even something like that, and let the justice system do their thing. Maybe she could go back, try and save her kin from meeting a grim fate?

Ugh, having a heart was so bothersome.

Noticing the time, Verna turned off the screen so she could dry her hair and put her clothes on. She wore a whitw turtleneck, a long black skirt, and a black suit she draped along her shoulders. She just let her wild wavy hair do its thing, but she did put on a necklace that looked like a snake was eating its tail. A fitting, teasing joke for herself.

Once there, Verna took a quick glance on the interior of the ship and the people she'll be spending a good chunk of her life with. She did her research on them but only skimmed through the details based on what she could find on them on the surface. She decided to take her time to get to know them better herself.

"Hello." She said, her voice quiet and solemn like reading through a tribute for a dead person. "Verna Amaryllis. I am a linguistics expert, have been for many years. My hobbies are... My hobbies are... creating stories. Yes, that. Also, since we will be together for the foreseeable future, you might as well know that I am a Telepath." She would pause and let her crewmates react however they wanted before following up. "Rest assured I will not read your minds without consent. I have no interest in invading anyone's privacy. That is all. Thank you."

"C'mon, wait up!" Archie yelled at the Chespin as he kept chasing after the Pokémon. Chespin kept crying in nervousness and fear, its paws covering its tearful eyes while running. It's a miracle it never hit any trees or tripped over rocks at this point.

That's when a girl named Regan called out to him with her Tyrunt (Woah that's a cool shiny!) calling out to get Chespin's attention too. It seemed to work as Chespin stopped in place, its body still shivering in fright.

"Chill out... Okay, I gotta chill out..." He did as Regan instructed him, holding out his hands as he approached the Spiky Nut Pokémon slowly. "Easy now. I'm not gonna hurt you, buddy. I want to be friends with ya..." He calmly said. Chespin was still shivering in fear but at least he wasn't moving away. However, a ray of sun shone through some clouds and reflected off Tyrunt's fangs. With a yelp, Chespin scampered away in fear again. "Oh not again!" Seeing no other choice, Archie had to run after Chespin again.

Chespin kept crying as Archie kept calling out to it, telling it to calm down. That's when both of them bumped hard against something big that they landed on their bum on the grass. A massive three-headed dragon Pokémon loomed over them, casting a shadow over the two. Archie stared in fear at the Dragon-type while Chespin was full-on weeping as the Hydreigon stared at them with such fearsome eyes.

When Hydreigon lunged at the two, Archie's instincts kicked in and he too lunged at Chespin to protect it. He assumed the worst, but the Brutal Pokémon used its two heads to pick Archie off his shirt collar and Chespin off its scruff. Both of them looked like a pair of puppies getting air jail time as Hydreigon carried them over back to the group.

"Hehehehe... T-Thanks..." Archie sheepishly smiled and rubbed the back of her neck, thankful and still nervous that the huge Pokémon was good. Chespin stopped crying at least but it was now looking at Archie in a different light. It could feel he was also just as terrified of the Hydreigon yet in the brink of danger, Archie didn't hesitate to jump over and protect it. For the first time in the young Chespin's life, it felt a sense of gratitude and warmth.

Archie then perked up when Adriane called everyone for a group photo. He was about to run towards Chespin but he approached him calmly instead. "Don't worry, Chespin. You're safe here." He warmly smiled and patted Chespin's head. Chespin had tears forming at the corner of its eyes due to the overwhelming joy it was feeling. When tbe photo was taken, it will show Chespin crying tears of joy while Archie was smiling widely beside him holding a peace sign.

After that, they were given gheir own Pokédexes while the professor explained its features and purposes. "Woah, so cool!" Archie excitedly hopped in place as he used it to scan Chespin, saving its data. "Spiky Nut Pokemon... Chespin, you're so cool! Everyone's Pokémon is cool! Even Hydei... Hydurei... Hydreigon!" He said as he scanned the Brutal Pokémon too.

Archie also marvelled at the Pokéballs and Chespin curiously looked at them too as he listened to the professor. "I didn't realize there were so many of us. I wonder where they are now. I bet they met lots of cool Pokémon already. Well, not as cool as Chespin though!" Archie giggled and Chespin shyly smiled and called out to him.

As the professor dismissed them, it seemed that it was the start of their journey together with their Pokémon. Archie turned to Chespin. "We're gonna have so much fun together, meet lots of awesome new people and Pokémon. It probably won't be all sunshine and rainbows but I promise I'll always do my best to protect you just how a hero should! Waddya say? Up for an adventure... Bravos the Brave Chespin?" Archie held his palm out to Chespin, looking at the Pokémon with sincerity and excitement in his eyes. Chespin could see it too and after a couple of moments, nodded eagerly and gave a high five.

"Ches!" Bravos the Brave Chespin said in happiness.

They were then approached by a girl named Audrey and her Zorua, asking if theh should team up together. "Gasp! You do?! Yeah sure, we're totally stoked to join ya! I'm Archie and this is Bravos by the way!" Archie happily said and gestured at Bravos who's hiding behind him while hugging him.

Also, is the whole religion thing just your character or is it your beliefs? I’m confused here, and I’m not sure if the character is just overly religious or not.

Asking baraquil

Hi hi! Yeah, Serena's really religious. I just thought playing a religious character in a mystery, supernatural-esque themed RP would be fun lol
Serena Reyes-Cooper

Serena was surprised to see quite the number of people in the group. At the very least, she was elated to learn she wasn't the only one worrying about the disappearance of Grace's Grotto. Still, she was worried about how most if not all of them, most particularly Cian, was taking this way more seriously than she expected.

Granted, she was just a newcomer here assuming that the rest of the group have been living in this town for their entire lives. Maybe the Grotto's owner was beloved by everyone? It was still a bit weird how only the 7 of them were the ones who remembered her and the cafe.

Serena listened as Cian and the others were discussing about its mysterious disappearance, until something about what Cian said caused her to chime in.

"Wait, a week? Wasn't it almost a month? Or perhaps, almost a month...?", she said, sounding more unsure by the minute. "I just know that I began getting this weird ability after drinking Grace's tea and... Oh God, I can't even remember how long I've had this ability." She looked at the others with fear and uncertainty in her eyes.

She then nodded in agreement about finding clues about the Grotto. "I'll go ask around as well. I think I remember a group of women in our faith group would often go there for coffee and Bible-reading. Maybe they can-"

The ceiling lights began to flicker, and Serena felt a chill in the air within the room. She could feel goosebumps on her arm and the hair on the back of her neck standing up. "Wh-What's happening..." She said in fear and confusion, feeling a sinking dread within her heart. She was approached by Jacob and was surprised she could hear his voice in her head speaking in Filipino. Was this an ability of his? She thought everyone of them had the same powers too.

"Ah!" She yelped as darkness enveloped the room. She looked around in panic, feeling herself being watched despite her being the only one in the void. She then saw a man, her father, standing before her with an absent look on his face and reflections of poker chips, cards, and alcohol running through his eyes like a silent movie.

"T-This can't be happening..." She said in disbelief as her father disappeared in a puff of smoke and left the unmistakable disgusting scent of cigarettes and booze. Something else replaced him in his stead too, something sinister, something diabolical, something unholy. Whatever it was, it was not God. It was... something else

Serena could feel tears forming along her eyes as she took a few slow steps back, still looking at the source of the malevolent energy. She heard the clinking of small rocks at her chest and remembered she was wearing a rosary necklace under her clothes. She took it off and wrapped it around her fist, then showed the cross to the presence.

"Y-Y-You have no power over me, demon!" She said, her fist shaking but she still held her ground. "I may be afraid but am an agent of God. I will not a-allow you to spread your wickedness on this realm for it is He who gives me strength! G-Go back to the place from whence you came! In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit... LEAVE AND NEVER RETURN!"

She yelled with all her might just in time as light washed away the darkness until everyone in the group returned in the same room in one piece. By the looks of it, all of them saw something traumatic from their past as tears ran down their cheeks.

As Carl left and Cian pointed out the danger they were in, Serena looked pitifully at Jacob. She still felt the fear and terror lingering in her mind from when they were connected. "Shhh, shhh..." She calmed him down and sat on her folded legs on the floor, lifting Jacob's head up with one hand. With her other hand wrapped in her rosary, she placed it on his chest while she began concentrating.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." A white halo formed around her head as soft white light began to cover Serena's hands. "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." The soft light spread throughout Jacob's body, presumably calming him down slowly but surely. "For my yoke is easy... and my burden is light.” As she finished healing his mental turmoil, the light would slowly disappear from Serena and Jacob.

She would help get him back to his feet then looked at Cian and the others. "God guided me here for a reason. I'm with you guys through and through as I know God will always be with us. What do we need to do next?"

There were so many people in the lobby that it was impossible for Archie to not be hyped. All these people must be selected not just by Adriane but also the professor and the group of people they work with. He's not going to lie, part of him was disappointed as he thought he was specialy chosen by her idol herself. On the other hand, it's so exciting to meet all kinds of people!

"Woah..." He was in awe when a purple-haired girl showed up with a Buneary, but he was also confused too. How come she got to have her Pokémon already? He thought all of them were up-and-coming Trainers. Archie thought it was unfair but then he thought this girl was also picked by Adriane. In his eyes, his idol could do no wrong and she must've picked her for a reason.

His thoughts were interrupted upon the arrival of a woman. Knowing his history, Adriane gasped when he saw it was Evelyn Beck, one of the people that fought alongside Adriane Brand during the war.

Archie stood up and gradually got closer to listen more to Evelyn who introduced herself as Director of the Evig Pokémon League. When the director said to follow her so she could introduce them to their partner Pokémon, Archie was one of the first kids to rush in and be right behind Beck as she guided them through the ground floor of the lobby.

He tried so hard to contain his excitement, but anyone looking at him could easily tell he was beaming with anticipation. 'I'm gonna be a hero! I'm gonna be a hero!', he thought to himself. 'I wonder what Pokémon I'll be getting? I hope it's something cool, or awesome, or cool and awesome. I can do cute too! Whatever it is, I'm sure it's gonna be all of those three!'

They were then brought into a lab where all this cool thingies and science-y gadgets were. He remembered his Pa's teachings about not touching anything he didn't understand as the director was waking up a guy who seemed to be awake for a week straight- Wait, did Director Beck just called him Professor Kapoc? The Cedric Kapoc? How did this guy go from a renowned war hero to... this?

As the director and the professor were bantering, in came another person who was no other than Adriane Brand herself. Archie audibly gasped. He couldn't believe how he's standing just a few feet away from his idol. The woman who lead the battle against the evil Cipher, Evig's champion of freedom and justice! Archie was practically bouncing on his feet from excitement.

He was also surprised when a red-head girl named Steph, part of their group, approached Archie, said a bunch of words he didn't really understand, and offered her fist to him. While she might've said a bunch of gibberish to him, he understood what a fist bump meant when he saw one. "Heya! I'm Archibald but you can call me Archie. Nice meeting you! Hope we can have a blast out there!" He enthusiastically said as he fistbumped her back and giggled when Steph ruffled his hair.

Professor Kapoc then called Evelyn and Adriane's attentions which made Archie focus on them too. He giddily waved at Adriane hoping she'd recognise him as the professor lead the group to a massive-wait, gigantic terrarium! It was like an entirely different world in here! If not for choosing their starters, Archie would definitely go and explore this area.

As the professor instructed them to approach the Pokéball with their name on it, Archie of course ran ahead of the group and looked at each of the Pokéballs until he found one with his name on it.

"So this is it..." Archie mumbled to himself as he gingerly picked up the Pokéball. He closed his eyes and brought the ball to touch his forehead. His heart was thumping with excitement, but also with nervousness.

Remembering what his Ma taught him, he took in deep breaths to calm himself down. "I hope you're just as excited to meet me as I'm excited to meet you, buddy! Here goes... Come on out!" Archie pressed the button and threw the Pokéball into the air, releasing the Pokémon within.

Within seconds, a bipedal Pokémon materialised in front of Archie, albeit it's back was facing him. The Pokémon was shivering nervously as it looked to the sides in alert from all the people and Pokémon surrounding it before slowly turning around to see Archie. Both the aspiring green-haired hero and the Pokémon stared at each other, unmoving with shock on their faces.

"Heya the-" The Pokémon immediately turned back around and ran away scared, squealing with its hands raised above its head. "W-Wait! Come back! I wanna be your friend!" Of course, Archie ran to follow the Pokémon who he will soon discover to be a Chespin. As of now, the Chespin's frightened cries and Archie's excited shouts could be heard as they ran across the pine forest zone of the terrarium.

AUSTEN

Austen was jolted awake from his slumber when the headmaster of the school introduced himself. He rubbed the sleepiness from his eyes as he listened in on the announcements, albeit he would fight the urge to doze off at the headmaster's first few words.

When Mr. Buchanan's tone got more serious, Austen held his head up as he listened more intensely this time. He may look lazy and uninterested for those that truly didn't know him, but he had some streak of seriousness still within his sleepy physical form. He has heard of these violent riots and protests before, and having the headmaster say those did make Austen think if his generation should be doing more to support his primalist kin.

Just thinking about that made him feel weary and sleepy again. Perhaps Mr. Buchanan was right where Austen's batch could use their time in the institute to hone their skills, improve upon them or whatnot. Either way, the least they could do was try for the sake of themselves and their loved ones.

Again, just thinking about doing something above the bare minimum made Austen miss his bed already.

He was just about to fall asleep again when the headmaster gave way to the counselors who'll be teaching them. It looked like he'll be under a Ms. Petrovna, and the people she called to be under her tutelage, along with Austen, seemed to be an interesting bunch.

The sooner they were done for today, the faster it was for Austen to get back to his room. He then shuffled along together with the people Ms. Petrovna called to go to the arena. Austen hoped that they wouldn't do what he thought they'll be doing but hey, if getting tired for the day meant getting a more well-deserved rest tonight, so be it.
