The thing about those massive war canoes? Their hull is made from a single log. It would make more sense for the canoe to belong to Bor's tribe. If its large enough to hold anything more than ten or so it would require more than one person to paddle. A regular, small canoe can be paddled by one, but not a War canoe of decent size. Given that some war canoes could hold up to a hundred, they can be pretty huge.

It's a small one, like a scouting vessel made for eight at least. And the special wood it's made out of is pretty light.

"Yeah, sir." A young man that looked like he was full of energy a few minutes earlier was now seated at the front, legs up on a hovering table and chewing god knew what. And now he was reduced to an air drop. It was outrageous. Bloody ankle. He briefly glared at his right ankle, which he had never forgiven for getting himself permanently injured and unable to sprint. Yet maybe there was one thing he could do. "Am I allowed to sweep the windows?" Please, please yes. If no? What an exciting second mission.

"Move! Quickly! Loot all you can and burn the rest!"
"Archers, sir!"
"Get behind cover - oh, good. Hello, visitor. You took your time."
"Cut it. I got some loot. Bound to be more."
"What's that bottle?"
"I honestly don't know. I'll get it to Zalam after we trash this joint."
"My man. Alright! Scale the battlements and move!"
"Torch everything you can't carry!"
"Take them out!"

Eri smiled to himself. The plan was going better than expected. The guard was completely taken by surprise - half of the ones posted to the main gate fell before they even knew what was happening. Of course, no one expected intruders to come by the main gate. Suddenly, he felt the ripple of the arcane pulse through him. He could feel it, as he had practiced with mundane yet deadly magic cantrips in the past. Something was up. As he oversaw his lovely men looting the royal castle to high heaven, he turned his thoughts to how to take out the wizard.

I read more about the history of war canoes and I suppose they might be useful for transporting men and products up and down river, which is the primary function of boats in Othea.Edit: I feel like longboats and small galleys would be more standard in Othean water.

Actually, Bor made it himself just in case. And it's his own... He didn't steal it....
