The origins of Eros are disputed, few believe he is the fourth primordial god brought into existence from Kaos, others believe he was brought into being from Aphrodite as she formed from seafoam and some penned his conceptions as being born from love. or Lust if you feel so inclined. The truth is written in the Hesoid tales of the conception of the first gods, Eros is the youngest of the primordial beings and lived among them, watching as they consumated and reared more godly beings. Without worshippers and a true meaning to his existence Eros was quiet and removed for the greater part of war and fights among the now seated Olympians.
When Aphrodite came into existence, self-formed from seafoam Eros was immediately intrigued. They shared the same domain, but Aphrodite quickly rose to popularity, where Eros had been but a forgotten tale. This drew him to her, in the form of a child he approached and sought her aid. The two worked closely together for many centuries, appearing before the humans as mother and son, giving them help with love, sex, and family. Eros learned a lot from the younger goddess, at times he caught himself admiring her strength and intuition and faulting himself for once being so useless. Through the many instances of the pair visiting the mortals, and Aphrodite's known promiscuity, Eros was quickly adapted into the many tales as the child born of forbidden lovers. Eros rose to fame through this tale, and never came before any mortal or minor god to correct it. For what it's worth the comfort and affection he received from Aphrodite as a "child" could have been chalked up as a mother's love.
While Eros never rose to eclipse the fame of his "mother" he grew popular among mortals, earning the favor of cults throughout Greek cities, and found himself frequently involved in their lives, playing with their hearts as he had often played with lesser gods and creatures.
𝗛𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬
The tale of Psyche and Eros is one of many trials, tribulations, and true love. The measure of a mortal’s heart is not by the sweet words they whisper into a lover’s ear, but by the insurmountable challenges they face to earn their spot by their godly mate. It’s only fair by the judgement of fates that a mortal rises and falls by the hands of a god. Eros knows this fate far too well, the Colossus was but a minor nuisance in the background when he and Psyche were summoned upon the earth. The two lived a bountiful life together, Psyche who was once a mortal and Eros who frequented the mortal realm quickly adjusted to their new lives. They kept to themselves running a small business as they moved across the world, meeting and helping those around them, staying out of the issues of the other gods, and avoiding the many battles and wars over the years.
Eros could have lived a thousand more millennia alongside Psyche like this, but perhaps his love had been too much for the world. Psyche, like the gods and goddesses, was bound to the range of the colossus, stepping outside of that range for a long period would eventually wither her away. A night in London in the late 1800s when he was making the rare visit to his father, Psyche had followed after him, curious to meet the man that had always been shrouded in shadows. A wrong turn down the dark streets introduced her to the violent life her lover’s father was involved in, witnesses of a hit usually had to disappear immediately, but a beautiful woman like her offered more options to men like them when it came to disposal. The night was stormy with the bellows of angry thunder, and quick strikes of destructive lightning. The sunny day after the stormy night did not reach inside the “Amo”r household, there was a great distance between the lovers. Psyche knew of Eros’ powers, dodging his touches and embraces to keep the secret to herself, but nightmares followed the woman until the day she disappeared. Leaving a letter behind to the love of her life thanking him for the beauty and grace he showed her, the love and appreciation he showered her in and begged of him to not blame himself for what happened.
Eros spent the next four days searching for Psyche. The first day he searched the city for her, hoping she only meant to leave him and not this existence. The second and third day he ventured outside of the city and exited the range of the colossus until his bones ached and his voice was hoarse. On the fourth day, he travelled to Paris, his heart shattered and his greatest fears met when he came upon the Pont des Arts. A black lock decorated in gold butterflies had etched the truth he wanted to deny with his very being in its solid body. Eros cried but returned to the colossus, holing himself up away from life around him for a week.
When he returned to Pont des Arts he had every inclination to waste away on that bridge, to turn to dust and join Psyche as atoms in the universe. Eros didn’t know how long he sat on the bridge, or what he looked like to his mother as she came running to him. The young god didn’t register the tears streaming from her face, or the relief in her broken voice as she finally found him, he’ll never know the anxiety she felt watching him waste away as she brought him back to London, racing against the clock.
Eros’ recollection of that particular day between his state of mind and Hypnos’ potent sleeping powers is a haze, something he’s thankful for. But no regardless of how long you put him to sleep, for twenty years or a hundred more, the scars on his heart from a lost love and the pain on his mother’s face would never completely heal no matter how close he returned to the colossus.
The year drug on, after losing his love and being lulled into a long slumber Eros awoke in a new land, under a different name and returned to his former glory. The ache in his heart over a lost love has dulled through the years, using the pleasures of skin and the drunkenness of fame as distractions to this pain. Eros grew in popularity among mortals as a vetted sex therapist and matchmaker he was quickly welcomed among the social elite. Living the nomadic life and chasing after the colossus only brought more potential clients and followers around him. Five years in Seattle brought about the launch of Love Shot, a day time tv talk show about love, sex and friendship that earned an award for its first season and landed Eden Amor on the cover of GQ and Time Magazine. As the former “Sexiest Man of Alive” and “The Modern Day Cupid” he has become a highly sought after man, by men, women, immortals and tabloids alike. What would it take to win the love and affections of Seattle’s very own love guru?
As gods Eros and Apollo seldom crossed path, though on one occasion Apollo experienced first hand the sort of suffering mocking a love god can put you through. Eros has long since put up the tricks and the bow (for the most part) and instead has found himself intrigued by the sun god. It is not often that Eros dreams about fleeting nights, and rarer yet that those dreams are from a time he barely remembers consciously. Still Eros finds his subconscious wandering to Apollo even after all these years.

Eros can remember most of his time as a god, and long before Psyche came into his life most of his memories were filled with grand adventures leading Hypnos into trouble. Eros had always been closest to Nyx out of the other Primordial beings and grew closer once she bore Thanatos and Hypnos. There would be no truer observation than to claim Eros was enamored with the children of Nyx from the beginning. For a while he neglected his duties to spend his time in the underworld watching and playing with the twins, enjoying how simple life was away from the Olympians and their dramatics. Eventually he had to return to his duties, and that led him to finding Psyche and slowly his visits to the underworld became far and few between. The trend continued even when the colossus brought all the gods to the mortal realm. It wasn’t until he rose from his long slumber did he attempt at rekindling what was lost with Hypnos. But between their mutual guilt, and centuries of nearly no communication, their relationship is still slightly awkward and sometimes strained.

Eros perhaps thinks mostly highly about his pseudo-mother out of all the gods. For it was Aphrodite that took him under her wing, helped him win back the favor of the mortals, taught him about himself and the people they reigned over, and really have him the love Chaos and Gaia couldn’t offer him. What drew him to her first was attraction, even she rivaled his fairness and it excited him. Then it was her heart the solidified his loyalty and trust. The two have seldom been apart, even entangled in Psyche there was a spot in his heart only Aphrodite was able to occupy. Eros will forever think himself indebted to Aphrodite, and would end his existence before raising a hand to her. For all she’s done and given him it’s the least he could do for her.

There’s not a lot to say when it comes to the Goddess of Wisdom, that hasn’t already been said. Athena is fierce, infallible, intimidating to lesser immortals and strikingly beautiful. Eros has always been slightly intrigued but the goddess, though he cares little for war and strategy(or her holier than thou disposition). They’ve had less meaningful interactions than he could count on one hand, but with his return and seething disdain for his father, perhaps a friend will be found in Athena.

As a god of carnal pleasures and perpetual desire, the pledge of virgin hood was one that deeply disgusted intrigued him. There were far and few instances for interaction between the God of Love and Goddess of The Hunt. Eros figures it wouldn’t hurt to get close to the virgin goddess, a sibling of Apollo was a sibling he could at least tolerate. If anything they can bond of the old days of archery... though their er... targets and intentions were very different when wielding the bow.

Just as painful memories are hard to forget, good memories with burned bridges are even harder. Eros remember the good days, the golden time before he fell in love with Psyche where he spent his left over time from following Aphrodite around, and causing mischief with Hypnos and Thanatos with Ares. Eros wasn’t as close to Ares as he was with Aphrodite but he was closer to the god of war than the other olympians. When Psyche came into the picture Ares was understanding, accepting even and supported Eros in his endeavors to keep Psyche by his side. Eros knows deep down in his heart that Ares is not to be blamed for what happened to Psyche, but if not he, then who? Eros knows little facts about his 20 year slumber, and even less about what his “dad” has been up to the pat hundred or so years. What he does know is that seeing him for the first time in a century is sure to stir up a side of him few have seen.

The Wicked Witch of the Gods? Hmm... that wasn’t right. The Queen of The Gods? Was that true anymore? Is a Queen still a Queen when her king has abandoned her, her castle is empty and her kingdom no longer heeds her demands? Eros has conflicting feelings about Hera, he’s experienced her ugliness first hand, but has also seen the best parts of her. There is no denying she helped him get over his stint of rolling out of one bed and stumbling into the next. Eros can’t remember if he ever apologized for what he did, nor how he handled it, and for that he carries the most regret. Eros has no desire to rekindle anything with Hera, not even friendship but if the opportunity presents itself he has settled on apologizing to her. Though knowing Hera’s past he doubts such a thing will happen.

The 1920s was a wild time for Eros, to put it mildly. Most of it is all a blur of drugs, gambling and sex. Few things stand out from that time, and one of those is his unfortunate time spent with Loki. The two ran into each other at a table, laughed to themselves at the ring around they gave the mortals and ended up sharing a room that night. And the same rinse and repeated for countless nights. Loki had obviously never dealt with a god of love, and failed to understand both their observation and scope of powers. Long story short, Loki schemed to run off with everything the pair had won together. Eros acted quickly, using his powers, and had Loki falling for a mortal both gods had expressed an “interest” in. Instead of running off with riches and infamy, Loki took off with a broken heart and the image of Eros and the mortal he had fallen for passionately entangled in each other.
The two haven’t seen each other since, and Eros could go a few mor lifetimes without seeing the Norse god again.

Thanatos is the God of Death people often mistake Hades for. Born to the Mother of Night, as the self-proclaimed older twin of the set, he is familiar and comfortable with the darkness that filled the Underworld. Thanatos is one of many children of Nyx, but like his brother could be considered one of the more gentle children of hers.
The violent death via murder, war and circumstance of passion was the domain of his sisters, the Keres. Thanatos instead is the gentle hand of death that visits after a long life or a long battle of an inescapable disease. He is the compassionate end, the comfortable cool wind of fall after a blazing summer, the last page of a great story.
𝗛𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬
The glittering night sky was even more beautiful enveloping the space between the earth and the heavens than he remembered peering at it from the Underworld. The night has always been his comfort a place to turn to when delivering death unto mortals became too much.
Unlike the other deities, Thanatos adapted quite well. Death is a fixed aspect of life, and reaching that end did not rely on divine powers and as a mortal, it was quite easy to achieve in a number of ways. Over a thousand and one lifetimes Thanatos has dedicated himself to continuing his duty, he has lived as a court physician, an executioner, a medic, and so on. The reckoning of death is his to command, and he has done so with the gentleness and benevolence he showed as a God.
The many relocations of the Colossus had minimal effect on Thanatos’ established routine. Every new city had a need for nurses or paramedics and that became the profession of choice for Death Incarnate. The move to Seattle inspired a career change from RN to Paramedic for Thanatos and has given him a new appreciation and compassion for the mortals he serves and works alongside. The scenes he sees are enough to make most people squeamish, but the courage and grace he’s seen and wisdom he’s experienced have made the change worth it ten times over.
