I think to sell someone on an interest check, it's really important to seem enthusiastic about your own idea. That means writing more than a single sentence to attract potential players.

Did you know that Dante's inferno is called a divine comedy because things work out for the protagonist? Back in the day, the only two genres were comedy and drama. The only difference was that in a comedy, the protagonist is better off at the end, and a drama is the opposite. So that's why a story about going through hell can still be considered a comedy, even if it's not funny.

Name:
Broken Promise, BP, Boss

Age:
Old enough to know better, too young to care. (that is to say 30's)

Preferred RPs:
I Prefer to make my own, but will occasionally join something if it looks interesting. I'll join just about anything so long as it isn’t overly edgy/sweet, though it's rare for me to do. I don't do 1x1s too often either.

Preferred Roles:
I tend to play adorable characters everyone wants to befriend or proper assholes everyone wants to stay away from. I try not to play moral paragons or prime evils.

RP Conquests:
I've completed quite a few RP's off site, but most of them are on private forums or have simply been lost to the ravages of server crashes. As for stuff here, I'm sure everyone who sees me post in the off topic sections has seen me find an excuse to talk about Danganronpa: Tower of Carnage. It's a project that took over 4 years to complete and I feel pride not only for myself but all the wonderful people who helped make it enjoyable during its run. Re: Zero: The High Council Is technically my first, but it was just something I kind of took over and ended up ending the story after just six months. It finished, but eh...

Last RP I finished was Symphony of Espers which turned out pretty good.

RP's in progress:
For some reason I can't seem to stay away from Ari's magical girl RP, even if I'm not sure why I'm still in it.

As for my own projects, I'm doing Symphony on High to continue the gigachad adventures of the espers in Pax Septimus.

RP Graveyard:
I've been pretty fortunate on this forum. I think I joined one when I first came on the site that didn't really do anything, and there are a few 1x1 things that didn't go anywhere. It's disappointing when an RP ends before it can be finished, but I've come to look at them as learning experiences.

And then there's that london magical girl RP, and that dark magical girl RP. I think I'm done joining magical girl RPs for a while.

Other interests:
Videos
I watch a lot of educational videos on youtube. Usually as research for something I’m writing or purely because a topic interests me. I like channels like Tier Zoo and Daryl Talks Games, and I’ll also watch things like Critical Drinker or Literature Devil to deepen my understanding of story telling. Though I also like memes and jokes, to which I’ll find myself watching stuff like Sseth, but usually find myself surfing through meme videos. I gotta work on that.

Games
I have a rather long history of playing virtually every platformer to come into existence during the indie boom, as well as quite a few other indie games. I’ve played Meatboy, Binding of Issac, Gunvolt, Cuphead, Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt, Classic Metroid, Warcraft 3, Final Fantasy 7,8, and 14, Left 4 Dead, Shantae, Celeste, Danganronpa, God Eater, the list goes on. What I’ve played is kind of all over the place. I don’t play many games these days, I tend to pick things that look interesting and go on a decent steam sale.

Painting Minis
I do this in moderation. Otherwise, it's a pretty expensive hobby to start...

Music
I listen to everything, save most country/rap songs. I have too many favorites to name.

Personality:
Not one to take life or the internet too seriously. Is only serious about writing well and having a good time.

People to Insult:
Dalton is a Dingus.

“And once you elect a new leader, I’ll be sure to kiss their ring!” The coward was finally laid to rest when the Rbels took the wall and Uncle Lalli put a bullet in his chest.

The blood witch's Sister
“...” A weakling that was vanquished by Gustaf Henriksson. May the witch queen's bloodline end here.

The Blood Witch
“Thanks everyone. Until next time.” A greedy, violent churl that had no business becoming a queen. Without the goddess's power, she fell quickly. The world works quickly to erase her, but she persists like a scar.
I'm going to increase the number of named characters players can play to two. I'll also occasionally throw a named rebel in there if player numbers remain low.

I did my first dice roll. If a rebel has a non-zero chance of biting the bullet, I will roll a dice to determine if they live or not. Without modifications, a 6 is the only way to live. Boston Jones got a 3, and Great Grandpa Lalli didn't get a roll because they did a kamikaze attack.
Gunshots continued to ring out in the dark.

But also the screech of tires. The disorganized body of rebels continued to pour out. It was going to get difficult to charge soon, with all the bodies littering the ground.

“Wie!” Chase pointed at another group, and they perished under gunfire. “You smell like rats, and so do your spouses!”

Then the rebel army parted like the red sea. Not because of the keep's devastating firepower, but because a semi truck, high beams on, was driving straight towards the keep. It's driver pulled the horn twice, and the rebels let out a warcry in response.

Boston Jones was just a cog in the machine. His life hadn't changed much when the blood witch became queen. He was just as fat and happy as he had always been. But he had always had high hopes for his sons finding good jobs. Well, good jobs didn't really exist anymore. And what was a father's role but to provide for his family?

There was no way the semi was ever going to get inside the keep. But that hadn't been the intention. As the truck pulled up to the moat, it turned sideways as sharp as it could. Both machine gun nests focused fire on the truck, popping tires and filling the engine compartment with lead. The semi lost control and rolled over onto its side in front of the left side of the keep.

But even with the semi down, the rumble of another engine still sung through the air.

A certain blind motorcyclist went undetected by the machine gun nests, which had been determined to stop the semi. It wasn't louder than the machine gun fire, and its driver didn't need a light to see. It went totally undetected until it wasn't.

Unfortunately, there had been no ramp set up to help Great Grandpa Lalli get to his destination. Though his speed was great enough that he would at least hit Silver Myth Fort before falling into the moat below. The explosion was great, punching a hole in the lower part of the wall. It wasn't much, and it was lower than everyone would have liked, but the hole was just high enough to reveal the lower floor of the keep. Some of the guards inside peered out of the hole towards the mob of angry rebels.

As his strength faded, Boston Jones was able to witness the first hole ever to be punched into Silver Myth Keep. He and Lalli had given their lives to proverbially smack the queen's face, but he could tell the others would be successful. It was just a shame he wasn't going to see it.

“Amen, brother.” Boston saluted the ball of fire as it faded. Then so did he.

“Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiie!” Chase threw his arms into the air. “Get the mason mancers! We shall not be breached!”

One of the turrets fired on the semi's cargo, only to discover it was carrying several blocks made out of reinforced concrete. Nothing was getting past that, be it rebel vehicle or the keep's bullets.

The rebels had already made an entryway into the castle. Now they just needed to use it to lower the drawbridge. But first they needed a way to reach it. And of course, clearing out the battlements would be good too. Not many people were going to get inside with those archers firing, but perhaps the machine gun nests were the single biggest cause of casualties on the front line.
@Shinny I can't find the updated map. Is it hidden on a certain post?

“Willow annoyed me, so I took away her banner. That is the power Rei Ishiko is cursed to hold. ”

— Rei Ishiko

Rei was not as far off as Acid Drop might have thought. She had been, actually, observing the spectacle from a nearby building. The spectacle being what her club had been getting up to, not the pillar of light that had inevitably drawn everyone close. She stepped off the edge, and Willow caught her as they fell. They both levitated to the ground before joining the others.

Rei kept her hands in her pockets as she ducked under Nyxia’s laser beam. She gave the purple skinned girl a wink as she walked by. Willow looked at the beam, got really nervous, and then phased through it like a specter. Once she was on the other side, she pretended to wipe sweat off her brow and followed after her partner.

“My ears are itching, and I don’t think it’s sunburn.” She looked over Evil Eye’s shoulder. “Trying to get a new partner, or just trying to make your old one jealous?”

”Or are you putting on a show for Earthshaker?” Willow shouldered her violin. ”If you are, I’ll play a tune.” She cleared her throat before starting.

”Evil Eye and Hizuki, sittin’ in a tree!
K-I-S-S-I-N-G!
First comes love, then comes marriage,
then comes Shatterscape in a baby carriage!”

She lowered her eyelids and looked at Hizuki. ”Don’t ask me how it works, magical girls are weird.”

“Either way, I’m sure it’s the most productive use of your time.” Rei patted Evil Eye on the back.

”Hizuki Doodle went to town
A-riding on a pony,
Stuck a mogall in her cap
And called it eyeballroni.”

This time, Willow turned to Evil Eye with a tired expression. ”There’s a less clean version of this song, but I don’t want to encourage Oros.”

“Speaking of productivity…” Rei turned to the rule keeper, still smiling, still holding her hands in her pockets. “How are we doing with the light girl infestation? I see we have girls outside of the Gems showing up now. I’m very curious to see how you handle this.”

”Evil had a little lamb,
Little lamb, little lamb,
Evil had a little lamb,
Her hair was white as snow.”

Willow was just getting started.

”Gotta protecc that smile!”

— Suki Oyama

Oros continued to mope, head nearly empty. There had to be something that was making Rainbow behave like this, but hell if she could figure out what it was. The sound of laser fire caused her to lift her head and look at everyone. But it seemed like most everyone was gathered around a strange girl. A light girl. Oros’s interest was piqued. Her blood skates morphed to allow her to stand on her toes, which gave her a little bit better look at who everyone was gathered around. But form what little she could make out… maybe it was best if she kept her distance for now. Light girls were great and everything, but this one looked like she was one of those, and that was something Oros could skip out on today. Besides, it looked like Eyeball was trying to rizz her up, and Bedshaker was doing her best to present herself as an imposing figure. Even Bast and Boss Baby seemed to have taken interest in her. And given Nyx’s approval of the girl’s existence, Oros felt like she was liable to get laser tagged if she tried to move in that direction.

But Oros’s attention was brought back to Rainbow when she started to wobble all over the place. She prepared to catch her if she fell, but her concern would ultimately prove to be unnecessary. Though before she could go back to feeling sorry for herself, Rainbow placed a hand on her shoulder and gave her the most pain filled smile she had ever seen. She truly had Hide the Pain Harold beat.

"Ah.” Oros flashed a smile back, which was just as reassuring as her partner's.

And then Rainbow was off. Oros would stick by her side, but with her slow pace, she wouldn’t be hard to keep up with. The bloodwitch could certainly afford to do something here before going off. She had already decided that there were too many people interacting with the light girl. Like her partner would say on certain days: too many chefs in the kitchen. But she could hear Fingers racking up kills in the dark, and Nyxia seemed to be strangely isolated from the main light girl mob. She couldn’t remember ever really speaking with Nyxia, which made sense in hindsight. While she hadn’t spoken with fingers much either, she felt more accessible since she knew who she was at school. Nyxia on the other hand was a total enigma, and Oros suspected that she must have lived a town over or otherwise not been a local. She took a deep breath and skated up to the purple skinned girl.

"Hah! You’re really clearing them out! I can hardly keep up.” Oros shot a glance in Rainbow’s direction to make sure she hadn’t gone too far. But Oros didn’t come over here purely for small talk. She never did. There was a goal here. "Say uh, you and Earthshaker get along pretty well now, right? I mean, you and her didn’t get along very well on day one. But you guys did a one-eighty or something. That’s nice, that’s nice.” She sighed. "What changed?”

Shatterscape was left to her thoughts, and her prey.

The miseria were weak and easily culled. While the origin of the light bothered Shatterscape, she had decided to make use of its attractive properties. Fortunately, she did not need to get that close to the light to encounter the miseria. She could loop around the perimeter of the area she decided not to enter and slay them by the dozens. Occasionally she would be greeted by the neon glow of Nyxia’s cannon, but it only sought out creatures of darkness and avoided her every time. But eventually, a very large wave of miseria appeared. They tumbled over each other like rolling snow in an avalanche. But what were a thousand weaklings to this priestess? Even if some of them harmed her, perhaps the physical pain would relieve her mental anguish. Either way, she wasn’t going to fall to these tar-nothings.

As her fight persisted, she started to notice creatures lingering in the shadows. Ape-men that were half the size of a human. They assisted the priestess with the culling of the miseria by bashing them into nearby walls, the street, and even other miseria. They stayed out of Shatterscape’s way as she dealt with her own battles. Preservation of honor, perhaps?

”Don't tell the GMs, but I've been forgetting my stat block for the past few pages.”

Mac Penny Asimov

Initially, Mac had invited MDP to tag along with her because it seemed in character for the Iron Queen. Something that Mac had completely ignored was that the bubbly princess of dreams was so sickeningly sweet that it made her nauseous. Mac had observed many of Penrose’s denizens closely, and she still couldn’t understand why a self proclaimed ruler of Penrose would choose such an immature partner for her romantic pursuits. As MDP’s love manifested itself as real hearts and burst around her head, Mac continued to cringe, thankful that she could puppet her illusionary form to maintain its confident smile. Why had she done this to herself? When MDP continued to talk to Lily, she was reminded of how easy this could have been if she just let MDP go without saying anything. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy…

Oh well.

As important to Lily as Alex was, the eggs were by far the biggest threat to Penrose. Somehow, Mac had a feeling that boy could handle himself. She was honestly surprised he had gotten captured in the first place. When she had sight over all, she had observed how resourceful and careful he had been on a number of occasions.

After fighting a few more teapots and trolling Alicia, the consequences of her hubris returned with a strange looking teapot. One that had a hat and gloves. It was something akin to a child’s cartoon when Disney produced decent animation and not just slop. Mac sighed, angry that she had to admit that MDP could be proving to be more useful than she initially suspected. But it was her idea to take her along. And suffer for it. Though maybe this wasn’t so smart, as Mac became aware that Penny was entering the area. It would get very weird, very fast if she stuck around like this.

”It’s very possible.” Mac’s avatar nodded in approval. ”Maybe they even know the location of the other eggs. While you do that, I’m going to practice my teleportation. Sometimes it makes me forget things, but don’t worry, I’ll never forget you!” And with that, “Penny” clapped her hands together and vanished.

”That’s enough of that!”

Mac Ashley

As tempting as it would be to just be herself and avoid getting chatted up by MDP, it was probably in everyone’s best interest if she stayed in a guise that everyone recognized. That, and despite her overbearing nature, part of Mac did sympathize with the whimsical girl. She wasn’t sure why. As annoying as she found her, it seemed like a lot of people enjoyed her company. But what had she told her when she got a Christmas invitation from her? Something about not having any real friends? That still wasn’t something she understood.

But eventually, they came upon the chess battle. But this was not like a normal chess battle, it was like a normal videogame chess battle. Devil May Cry 3 did this twenty years ago. That’s how old this idea is. It was even used in a hunt not too long ago. I’m so happy Connie and Gaia don’t need to relive that horror But then again, what did you expect from the forces of wonderland? Contemporary was very much their style.

Somehow, Mac found herself positioned behind the Viscerals, enjoying the spells they employed. She felt kind of bad receiving a shield that could have helped someone else out more, but that just meant she had to go as HAM as possible. Beating the kings sounded like a good idea, but it clearly wouldn’t be that simple. The goal of chess was to capture your opponent by weakening their defenses, and with so many pieces assisting one another, they would likely have to break their teamwork before they captured the big K.

”Not bad, silly hat man!” Ashley cracked her knuckles and grinned. ”I’ve got time for a quick game.”

Mac slung herself into the front line of white pawns. As useless as they seemed, every pawn could become a queen. She chose to go after the white ones because they felt manageable and would open up the red pawns to the others, which she hoped would be easier to fight for the weaker magical girls. Tactics were great and all, but when you were fighting magical girls with crazy arcane abilities you had your work cut out for you. Though Mac knew rooks would be trouble, which seemed to make other chess pieces stronger by proximity. They went up in priority when they started to harass Rachel. That wasn’t someone Mac had ever cared for, and it felt like she would relapse back into her old ways as soon as it was convenient. But right now she was defending her team, and it was just a good strategy to defend your support units.

Ashley continued to maneuver in front of the pawns, but mac was rushing straight for the rooks. As soon as it made sense to do so, Ashley “teleported” to her position just as she body checked one of the red rooks. She grabbed Rachel by the scruff of the shirt and hurled her to safely, leaving herself at the mercy of the rooks. They would get a single chance to slam into her, and no more. Because Mac had created a gravity well at her position to hold all of the rooks near her. If they couldn’t back away from her position, they couldn’t slam her again. Meanwhile, Mac made some room for herself by pushing against one of the rooks with her legs so that she could start dismantling them with her fists. A roar slowly erupted from her position as she sped up her punching.

(Be honest, it doesn’t look that good, does it?)

— Kurosame

Without its treasure, the Gashadokuro started to seize up. While it died safely out of reach, Kurosame took a moment to admire the mask. It was far too big for her, but before she could consider strapping it to her oversized hat it shrank down to a more manageable size. And not a moment too late as her foe had one last surprise for her. The shelf beneath her started to move, and the toys were all sliding at her. A perfect test bed for her new trinket.

Before she totally lost her footing, Kurosame raced along the length of the shelf. With the mask on, the world seemed to move slower. She found she could time her jump perfectly, and glided over the top of a sliding box. By this point, the shelf had fallen against the opposing side, preventing it from falling to the floor. Though the structure was unstable. The shelves were designed so that they could lock into place, but could be removed if lifted up from the front. With the shelf falling forward, many of the upper retail shelves had unlatched when they fell against the opposing shelf.

By the time everything had come to rest, Kurosame had pulled herself up on the back of the fallen shelf, which was presenting itself as a ramp to the very top of the opposite shelf. She took a moment to survey her surroundings, and became aware of what had transpired.

At least it was truly dead now.

With this small victory, Kurosame felt a rush of excitement. She had acquired some useful treasure, and proved that she was no less potent in her new form. Her lacquer body was up for the challenges ahead.

Though she had to wonder why she had been selected to receive information about this strange artifact. Perhaps it was a plot by someone else to kill her, or maybe everyone had been told about it. But if it was the latter, then why was she the only one to go after it? Surely more toys would have jumped at the chance to grab something so remarkable. Unless, had they been told about other treasures? Were there more treasures like this?

There were more treasures like this.

KThe water spreading across the floor let her know something was up. It was raining like it did in a typhoon, so it was hardly a suprise. A window had given out, and now the place was slowly flooding. She hadn't heard the fireworks on account of the shelving collapse. Maybe it would keep flooding, maybe it wouldn’t. The water wasn’t a concern for Kurosame; a fact that didn’t even need to be stated.

Her next move was going to be to rush off and find more treasure, but she noticed something on the top shelf. Normally she would write it off as merely a lacquer fragment from one of the toys running around, but its placement was strange. It was on the top shelf and seemed to be overlooking the area. It also lacked any signs of damage, and appeared to be deliberately placed there. The improvised ramp lead straight to it anyway.

Though as Kurosame neared the part, it became evident that it wasn’t just a fragment. As she anticipated, it appeared to have detached from something. Then there were the eyes and tentacle-like engravings on the front of it. Yes, this had to be a fragment of Akkorokamui. An octopus’s tentacles could notably be detached from their body and still possessed something of a will. It was not uncommon for severed tentacles to continue to hunt for prey and feed them into a mouth that wasn’t there. Though a god octopus like Akkorokamui surely had very formidable tentacles, and likely had even greater control over the severed parts of himself. Though she would have expected such a creature to be far larger and not merely spy on her like a coward. Perhaps it was a Koromodako, or merely a Tako nyūdō? A punished Gaki was not out of the question either.

「この醜い猿、その大きな馬鹿げた目を私に見せて、そこに唾を吐きかけてやるからな?」

Translator’s note: Kurosame, while being Japanese in many ways, is still from an alternate world. She does not speak the same Japanese as they do in your world. We will make an effort to translate her words for you and explain any nuances that her elegant language may hold. We will display her original language with her translation so that you can marvel at its beauty while still understanding her.

(Do you fear me, creature? Is that why you hide?)

When she didn’t get a response (because she didn’t wait) she continued talking.

「きっと仲間はいないだろうな…」

(cowards aren’t capable of having Nakama…)

Translator’s note: Nakama is a word that is used to refer to a non-familial companion that might as well be family. But the word is so strong that there is no English equivalent to it so we have decided to leave it untranslated.

Also Kurosame using the word like this is very shameful.

「遠回しに言っても、私はお前の尻を叩くよ。」

(Do not eavesdrop on me again, or I’ll be taking your face as a trophy.)

That was something she was eventually going to have to do if she was going to survive, but details, details...

With the flat of her sword, she put the strange device towards the commotion on the other side of the shelf. That was enough wasted time. There was more treasure to be found. It was time to use her newly acquired speed and see if she could locate anything. Her gut told her there might be something interesting in a corner, so she ran to the closest one she could find, water serpent in tow.
@Zoey BoeyYou may write your character teaming up with others to move around ladders, cut down trees to act as a bridge, or set up similar forms of "siege equipment." Similar to how @Ariamis had his blind grandpa on a motorcycle hit their target with the help of their family. The character limit is to make combat inside the castle more manageable, but you may feel free to involve secondary characters in your post if it makes things more interesting. They just can't be the focal point of your post. Your "main" character has to be the reason the rebellion succeeds.
@Ponn Is Octolys's scout craft still chillin' out nearby?
@Ariamis Looks fine to me.

I'll give this round another week, as I'm waiting for someone to join and I got the IC up late. If recruitment for the rebels still looks low, I might up the number of playable characters you can control to two at a time, and might even have some rebels of my own show up.
