For the whole length of the cycle, even the eldest of us all can remember when the world was split into two, those who live on the floating isles, and those who live on the surface. Even when everyone has wings, the wind finds a twisted way to be cruel to those who ride it. As the ancient saying goes, 'As the broken wing beats, the wind grows ever stronger.'

In the early days when the birdfolk returned to the isles, and the sun once more lit the sky, a series of guardians awoke from their slumber, the titans of stone and magic sundering what was already a wasteland into a ruin. That was when four stood up to the four titans, slaying them and absorbing their power into their immortal, phoenix souls. As far as many from the surface are concerned, there is one true faith of four named Sath, Orus, Lixia and Draus, languishing in their temples, their divine minds on matters beyond our comprehension.

The isles, however, came host to a way of life dictated by magic, and its active practice and discovery. Its height made magic, such as wind control and teleportation helpful to fly to, or between them. Guilds and Broods of mages control the floating isles, rejecting the four, and instead wishing to study in peace above the lands that the titans once laid waste to. Yet even in this calmness, the isles found these guilds to be rather quarrelsome with each other, such that any attempt to rule over the isles will only find a fools gambit in both a visible and invisible war between the many guilds, of the many isles.

Times have changed, however. The birdfolk travel between the surface and the isles more than ever before, and for the ages that the eternal conflicts and tension has existed between them all, there seems to be more change on the horizon. Perhaps an age to determine the supremacy of the floating isles and the rule of magic, or the rule of physical divinity amongst those who wish for fairer, stable winds against the howling chaos.

In this land of Kalkordia, where talons stretch to the sky, there are stories amongst its avian inhabitants, of what their own flights will bring in this trying, strange time.

----

Hello, this is an ad for a 1x1 my own universe, Kalkordia, a high fantasy setting with a focus on its main race - the windward and winged Birdfolk. A world I've put much lore and worldbuilding into, I'd love to tell stories and adventures within, and help expand farther with a partner.

Onto characters, both of us will be playing birdfolk characters, and depending on the prompt, either from the chaotic floating isles, or from the rough, hostile landscape of the surface below. Essentially, they're Aarakocra, or Rito, but with wings on the back, and take their appearances off of whatever real world bird, or strange set of characteristics they're born with.

Here are a few prompts I've thought of, feel free to pick one or propose some sort of combination between them.

----

The Fifth Titan: A curious scholar from the isles glides down to the surface one day, in search of a guide or a companion to help them on a long journey they've been proposing. With a low voice, wary of any "defenders of the faith" nearby, they speak of a revelation through a complicated tie of historical record and knowledge - there is a fifth Titan, of the same ones that the four physical gods took their form from. Perhaps even more. It either lies asleep, or is a much more peaceful beast than its siblings, but either way, they seem to be offering a hefty sum for safe passage, and protection on the dangerous surface of Kalkordia. Thus, both embark on a journey to discover more about the world around them, and forgotten history, yet, whispers soon travel, and soon enough, many who wish to stop them, or follow them to the source of this 'Fifth Titan.'

Falling Skies: It was almost immediately when everything in your life began crashing down - quite literally. On a clear day, your island began falling towards the ground, breaking a cracking apart at the seams as it headed for the surface. Panic and chaos soon overcame the entire sky, and archipelago on the disaster happening before their very eyes. You're left without almost everything, as you settle on a small rock on the ocean, watching it all crash down. You swear that whoever did this, or whatever caused this fall - you'll find them, and they'll meet their judgement at the behest of your own talons.

Migration: You're from the surface, and you know well the dangers of the surface. Deadly fauna, not to mention flora as well. The worst, is the many who take to marauding the skies of the surface for any bit of bloody survival they can muster. Yet, you have a set destination in mind. Perhaps you're a pilgrim, a performer, or have a letter from and old family member or friend calling for your presence. Either way, you need an escort. And a good one. You chose to go with the one that looked the most like they were from the floating isles. Perhaps a stop in the sky might help to keep you alive longer...and with the way that some of the "enforcers" of the faith have been acting, a bit of skywards charm might help to smooth things over. Hopefully. If your journey doesn't go violent...

Of course, that's just a few. If I come up with any more prompts, I'll let you know, and if you have your own ideas feel free to express them.

In terms of pairing, I don't mind, really, I'm an open book when it comes to it, but my favorite pairing is a good platonic male and female pairing. Whether just really strong friends, or siblings or cousins, whatever if is, that's what I like. I am also fine with roleplaying romance, but generally plot comes first.

You're free to create a birdfolk to your heart's content, whatever bird you want, we can probably make it work. I am also open to explain more lore or details to help make a character in this universe as well. So yeah, basically if you like worldbuilding and cool stories about bird people, hit me up.

I prefer discord, but threads are fine too. Whatever you prefer. Lengthwise I go from semi-lit to literate, usually depending on if I'm introducing a scene or area, but generally I'm fine with most lengths as long as it isn't a one liner, nor in bad grammar. Whatever you need to get the point across.

Thanks for reading, and I hope to RP some fantasy avians with you!
I like Gahoole too! @Buteo

Sick. I don't know if there's any RP groups for it here but if you ever feel like you want to RP that world - let me know, heh.
Hey! Wings of Fire is awesome, nothing weird about that!

I'm more partial to Ga'hoole and Summer King Chronicles, however, when it comes to YA creature fantasy.

welcome!
bump! And update!
In this quiet age, the Gryphons must be awaken from their sleep.

The Gryphons, under their noble kingdom, have much ahead of them which will put their nobility and righteousness to the test. A noble Gryphon knight's goal is to secure peace for their people, but soon, they may have to learn that peace may never truly be the answer, always.

What lies ahead, is what many in the future call a dark age for the Gryphons. But two squires, from the queen's fortress of Valiance, come to remind the Gryphons of the light that shines within all of them...

This is their story.
A sunny day dawned on the beautiful hills, where the Gryphons flew, and called home. Their very own kingdom in the mountains, where in valleys stood venerable fortresses and peaceful villages, the common Gryphon and the soldier taking to the sky to perform their daily duties. The grass was still green, but the wind blew cold through trees slowly turning red and yellow, as autumn came to Gryphondom.

It was rather unassuming, as the Gryphon Kingdom has found recent peace. The dragons had laid dormant for years, content to lay in their own horde rather than threaten the Gyphons. Bandits and raiders were an occasional problem, but swiftly dealt with by brave and noble knights. Never had Gryphons had problems with magic as of late, or perhaps even in decades!

Some could say that under the Queen's all too-successful reign, things have gotten rather uninteresting. Dormant, perhaps, but a dormancy that lay on a foundation of peace and prosperity for all.

Yet, many a wise Gryphon say that things cannot stay like this forever. Things must change. The day that it must happen, however, whether tomorrow or a hundred years later, remains to be seen.

And people weren't expecting it to start on a windy autumn's day, where a humble, old knight in the Queen's castle, the impenetrable mountain fortress of Valiance, came knocking on the door of the quarters of his two squires. A young pair that just couldn't quite seem to get along, even if their lives depended on it.

The quarters were quite modest, an old stone room, nesting on each side, straw piles with a rough blanket thrown over them, next to a bookshelf, perchings and a desk just as old as the room itself, sitting below a carved window-hole, blowing cold air in, just large enough for them to squeeze through and enjoy the stone perch. The view was quite amazing, looking out into the valley where villages and castles lay, and more mountains past them. It was almost nauseously high up, the whole castle being carved and built into the side of the mountain, but it was nothing for the flying species.

And soon, another set of rapping came from the door, followed by the old, squawky voice.

"Squires! Front and center, before I drag you out of your hole!"

@Ambra
Hey, this sounds pretty interesting!

Awesome! I'll start up a page for it soon, and we can talk over character details in a PM.
Hello. Old post, but I'm editing to fit a few ideas I've had. I've been playing with this world for a while, and there's some more stories I'd like to tell within it, with how it's evolved. This is a roleplay centering around a creature fantasy, where both of our characters are gryphons, in a world dominated by civilizations of mythical creatures! (Or you can be a dragon or some other creature if you're feeling bold. We got options!)

The world is centered around a land known as Saoria. One of the many homes of the Gryphons, Saoria is a strange, massive subcontinent, with much magic, treasure and oddities within. Since anyone can remember, it has been host to colonies of gryphons from all across the world. And so it has been for dragons, as well, and rocs, phoenixes, and many other creatures and chimeras. Dense forests, jagged peaks upon titanic mountains, lost ruins, the many nests built upon them, and treacherous volcanic wastelands shape the landscape of Saoria. To the North, however, Saoria is trapped by an eternal storm, barring entrance to a mythical "Boreas" that lies beyond it.

The gryphons have advanced in ways no other creature could comprehend. Metallurgy, and magic. Prides and Aeries formed into Civilizations and Armies, though they haven't forgotten their roots, much. In war, they seek a greater hunt not of mere prey, but of treasure and glory, to bring home to their hoards. Sovereigns and their armies claw over the hoards and rookeries which serve as the foundations for their empires of wing and talon. Weapons of bronze and magic strike all enemies that so interrupt their winds. Tales, tablets and scrolls speak of their gods from the stars above, and pray for their favor and wealth.

In this age of Saoria, however, such glory remains a memory. Prides and Aeries fight over ruins and blighted landscapes. Until the young queen of an ambitious pride begins her flight, to restore a lost "glory". Yet, her delusion lies under a bloodied, brutal talon. In her hubris, she may come to be an accessory to a dark magical threat, that looms beyond the eternal storms to the north...

Your character's Pride or Aerie was once peaceful, yet the queen's flames and bronze has brought you to the forefront of her war. You either must take flight, to fight, or loft your wings, as her subject. Thus begins a journey to reclaim one's home, one's family and friends, and possibly gain their own personal honor.

Take to the sky, with the talons of thunder, and raise your spear to the stars - with the screech of the gods and will, freedom and honor will triumph with your courage.

A bit on my roleplaying preferences, I'm an open book when it comes to pairing ideas, and I usually like to play multiple characters. My favorite, however, is a platonic mxf, but since I like to play multiple characters, we aren't restricted to the initial pairing. I don't mind romance, and I will happily write it with you! BUT, it's not the focus of my RP. Fair warning, I love to write long paragraphs explaining in copious detail of worldbuilding, or vividly of battles and chaos. So if you love fantasy worldbuilding, I will not disappoint on that front. Otherwise, feel free to tell me to slow down, or don't feel daunted by large posts. I'm totally fine with anything but one-liners, anything you need to get the point across. I also like to chat with my partners, so don't feel shy.

I have multiple character ideas already, and I am willing to fill you on any small details to help you build a gryphon! I believe in gryphon anarchy, so to say. Have fun with literally any bird and cat chimera, or design you'd like.

Threads or discord works. Whichever you prefer.

I look forwards to RPing some bird-cats with you. Thanks for reading!
"When the broken wing beats, the storm grows stronger."

Premise

You, all play as the Birdfolk, a fantasy race of birdlike humanoids who have their own world known as Volata. An almost endless seeming stretch of floating islands, it seems like the perfect home for them, providing all they need, with ample amounts of wind to carry one as far as they could possibly imagine.

Just don't get caught in a storm, else you'll be falling to the clouds below, to your certain demise...

The skies of Volata are ample for adventure and exploration, especially for those daring to go against the well-traveled winds towards islands left unscathed by the talon of civilization, holding secrets and magic within for those who seek it.

Plot

You all share the origin of the sleepy island of Vetila, where things are beginning to spell danger for its avians. Stargazers and village elders sense a bad omen is afoot...yet even with their cryptic ramblings, it's not exactly clear as to what could be coming, only something that could be devastating.

As an unlikely flock, you must form together to seek answers to these concerns, adventuring all across birdfolk civilization and beyond, slowly unfurling something much more...and possibly horrible.

But, don't get your feathers too ruffled! Much to gain, much to learn along the way! Those thermals are quite nice around this time of year as well.

Lore

Much of the true history of the Birdfolk has been lost to time, or became legends at the back of old, forgotten books or bedtime stories for hatchlings. Their origin, even, is debated over different gods and spirits, worshiped in different islands.

Currently, the Birdfolk live on the islands as peacefully as they can, either as nomads or sedentary to their homes, where Birdfolk civilization resides. Many different Kingdoms, States and Republics span across the sky, where within sit diverse cultures, usually based around the species of the birdfolk, or rather the large collection of them.

While feuding and war remains a given for them all, a larger threat exists in the forms of many flying monsters that fill the skies of Volata, flying from storms or beyond the clouds below. The diverse set of aerial behemoths follow with death and destruction, stopped only by those bold enough to fly into battle with them.

Feel free to ask any questions. I've had this idea in mind for a while, this is a bit of the simplified version. I'm debating between a small group and a large group, mostly since I plan for the characters of this RP to be a ragtag flying squadron.

Thanks!
Guten day, I'm Buteo, I go by other names, but they're mostly bird-related so you'll probably know me as "that one guy obsessed with birds."

Came here to get some of my RP ideas out there, and I miss forum formats so ey, here I am.

I'm 19, from Texas. Other than roleplaying, writing and reading (that's a given), I'm into worldbuilding in which I plan to make an RP out of one of my own worlds that I'm currently working hard on.

Hobbies include long hikes while it's raining, birdwatching, staring at maps, vidya, and I'm also super into heavy metal music. Death, 1st Wave Black and USPM, mostly.

Glad to meet y'all, and to be here.
