i like to rp. that's really all there is to say.

everyone's got some good points and ideas, but i think it'd be smart to have at least one co-gm who was part of the old group. they'd be more familiar with the original plan for this rp and its direction, even though we're bound to deviate at some point because that's just the nature of these things.

i kinda like the idea of that other nation (fulmion? i don't remember a verdante, but i might've just forgotten.) being hostile and potential enemies aside from just wild, angry pokemon. that could be cool ^.^
idk, i think we can just stay here? i mean, we've already started here, and the co-gms have power over things because whether or not they're officially recognized by the thread, they're recognized by us which is what's important. plus we're easy to find for dragon if/when they decide to return. idk, it just seems simpler than uprooting ourselves when we're still kinda getting our bearings here.
let's move on to the speech. unless of course people still want to continue their current interactions. but yeah, i'm all for moving this along when people are ready.
Shu

Shu eyed the foreign meat on her plate, unsure of where to start – or if she could even stomach more food when she was so tense. Though she was calm and quiet as a frozen pond, every muscle was coiled, ready to react to a threat. Out of the corner of her eye she spotted the Leonias soldier – Gentry – glance at her but otherwise he didn't acknowledge her. Shu turned her head slightly and caught his eyes in her own green gaze. Her eyebrow twitched up the slightest bit at him.

Then she turned back to the food that for some reason she was determined to eat at this table. Why was that again? Oh right. Exploring her heritage or something. Wu just eyed her, giving her a flat expression. Ignoring him, Shu reached to pick up her chopsticks (though the more she looked at her food, the more she realized she'd likely need a knife and fork… did they have something against small, easy to swallow portions in Leonias?) when something shot past her face.

Shu reflexively flinched away, her hand flashing up to capture the offending object. Her mind caught up with her body and she blinked to see a wrist ensnared in her iron grip. She followed the arm up to see a blond man who was much too close to her. He was filthy. And sunburnt. And quite frankly, he smelled. But the possibility that he was a threat faded with each passing second as he shifted and stared awkwardly. After a quick glance at Wu, she released the arm and lowered her hand into her lap. The Gallade was just as tense as she was, but if he didn't read this stranger as a threat, then he was likely harmless. Besides, it wouldn't do to start an international incident in the emperor's palace.

She waited for him to excuse himself after he grabbed the meat he'd been reaching for… except he didn't. He just kept standing there. Unreasonably close to her. Talking. Great Phoenix above, he was smiling at her. He couldn't possibly expect her to make conversation with him. What did he even – and why on earth did he insist on so much eye-contact?

This storm of frenzied, uncomfortable thoughts brewed under the surface of Shu's composed mask as she continued looking up at him. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Wu sitting unnaturally still. That smug bastard was enjoying this. Fighting the urge to fidget, she refocused her vision on the stranger. She blinked again. Was he done talking? It seemed like he was done. That meant she should probably reply. Not knowing what else to do, she gave a small nod. Then, the picture of calm and grace, she pulled her chair out and stood, leaving her plate of food on the table. Suddenly eating at this table and exploring her heritage didn't seem all that important. Without another glance at the man, Shu turned and walked away, heading for her safe spot against the wall. Wu got up and followed after her, eyeing the stranger as he passed. If it seemed like the pair walked a bit quicker than usual, it was probably just a trick of the light.

so…?
i can't say any more than people have already said, dragon. your life and your family come first. we'll be here for you when you return.
A wild c3 post appeared! (Also I'm on my phone at work so I apologize for any badness)
Shu

Shu had never dreamed she'd step inside the emperor's palace. Splendor and luxury lined the walls like a coat of paint, making everything shine in Phoenician sun. She'd come in her finest clothes for the occasion – though fine for her meant a plain green and white hanfu made of cotton that had only one small hole in the sleeve. In the face of such grandeur, she felt… inadequate. Dirty. (Then again, these were constant states of being for her, so perhaps it wasn't the castle after all.) But underneath all the royal extravagance was a tension that made her itch for her sword. People from the different kingdoms had come together for this occasion, but the peace was a tenuous one and felt like it could break at any time.

Wu the Gallade stood beside her, a steady presence in the cacophony of noise and activity. The many smells wafting through the hall were almost as overwhelming as the crowds, saturated with conflicting elements. The emperor had gone the extra mile to put the foreigners at ease with their own foods, it seemed. As one, Shu and Wu stepped forward, navigating through the crowds like they would through a battlefield. The distrustful looks from the occidental countries were to be expected, but it was the Phoenicians and Argentians who made her want to flinch away. Most of them seemed downright insulted to see a misplaced foreigner daring to wear their cultural garb. But it was nothing Shu hadn't experienced before, and she marched on like the good soldier she was.

The Phoenician table was loaded with familiar foods and scents, though it was all much more extravagant than the versions she was used to. She doubted she'd be able to stomach such rich foods when every hair was on end, so she elected for a simple bowl of broth and noodles. Picking up a pair of chopsticks she began placing garnishes on her bowl, aware of the stares of her fellow countrymen. All the while, Wu was beside her, a quiet sentry. The Gallade moved away from the table and Shu followed, glad to escape her "brothers."

The two stood off to the side, out of the way but also unapologetic for their presence. They were here because they had been called, and they were skilled warriors. The other volunteers didn't have to like them… but potential enemies on all sides would certainly make this more unpleasant.

Wu shifted next to her and Shu wordlessly handed the bowl over to him. The noodles were almost all gone, but the Gallade lifted the bowl to his mouth and drank what was left of the broth.

As she scanned the grand room, her eyes fell on an emblem she's seen many times before: Leonias. A wistful thought fluttered through her mind – she just as easily could have carried that banner instead of Phoenicis' had her mother raised her instead. But the thought died when she remembered that she likely would've been just as hated there as she was here. But still, the foreign food that might've been familiar in a different life called to her. How different would she be if she grew up there instead?

On an impulse, Shu stepped forward, approaching the Leonias table. People watched her all the same, but she was careful to mask her uncertainty with a cool expression, her head held high. Exotic meats and vegetables were laid out before her, and she took a few tentative sniffs. She piled bits and pieces of everything on her plate, quietly eager to sample them. Wu eyed a few berries but otherwise remained still at her side. With her plate full, the foreigners' stares grew heavier on her skin, and she was more than ready to retreat back to her spot against the wall.

"I'm Gentry, of Leonias, and this is my partner Scizor."

The voice cut through her thoughts, stilling her. She knew that voice. Granted, she was used to hearing it shout rather than speak, but she recognized it all the same. Gallade glanced at the voice's owner and gave a small nod to her. So it was him. The Leonias soldier. Most faces merged together in the sea of battle, but Shu had encountered this face enough that it pissed her off whenever she saw it. Leonias and Phoenicis were almost always having one battle or another, and Shu had encountered this man more often than she cared for. She had a grudging respect for his ability to live this long and he was a decent fighter. But that was about it. Apparently his name was Gentry.

Like hell she was going to run away from the table now. Wu gave a small huff at her childishness, but stayed with her nonetheless. Shu raised her chin and stubbornly pulled out a chair and took a seat, determined to eat her dinner at the enemy table.

Personality:(At least a paragraph)
Jules specializes in back-talking, smack-talking, trouble-making, and heart-breaking (because really, look at those eyes). Already very independent, Jules hates it when people tell him what to do, and even more when they talk down to him. He's rash, and has no tact to him at all, but at least you always know that what you see is what you get with him. Somehow though, people can never stay mad at him when he does something that by all accounts should land him in detention (and often does). Jules still has all the wonder and curiosity of a little boy, and a smile that lights up his face.

Though he's never cared much for things like rules or authority, Jules has high moral standards and empathy, and no patience for cruelty. He's a small, but scrappy kid who isn't afraid to stand up to someone and pick a fight… even when it can only end badly for him. Jules is also very responsible, something that tends to catch most people off guard. He's a dependable sort with a protective streak, who you can go to for almost anything, and he'll have your back. Especially if it means making a little mischief. He loves mischief. In his few years at Salem's, he's already garnered a reputation among teachers and students alike for pulling pranks and being a general disturbance. Jules never means any harm, though (unless it's fight pickin' time) and mostly just does it to make others laugh. He likes spending time with other people and cracking jokes, so he's pretty popular with the other students his age.

He's brave, loyal, curious, and mischievous, but all in all, he's just a kid who's stumbled into magical abilities and wants to have fun with them. What can possibly go wrong.

Biography:
A scrawny punk from Richmond, CA, Jules was born to single mother, Rosa Aquino. Rosa, a squib, immigrated to America from the Philippines when she was still pregnant, and managed to find a shabby apartment in the Bay Area just in time to give birth to him. Though she lacked any talent for magic, she knew that in all likelihood Jules would be a wizard just like his grandpa. So when at three years old, Rosa inexplicably found him sitting on top of the refrigerator – where she'd hidden a toy she'd confiscated from him two days ago – she knew exactly what was going on. On her next day off from work, she took baby Julius to San Francisco's wizarding district and walked him through the allies.

His introduction to the magical world was… a noisy one. He stared, wide-eyed as Rosa walked him into Sybill's Savoring Sweeties, a candy shop. The two of them played with the different treats, some changing color, some moving all on their own. They dissolved into giggles as Jules' wonder and delight. But then as Rosa was distracted talking to Sybill, little Jules picked up a few of the fire-crackers and dropped them on the floor. The ensuing cacophony was something to behold, and he almost lit the store on fire. The two woman did the reasonable thing and freaked out, but Jules just giggled at the spectacle, in awe (it wasn't uncommon to hear gunshots at night in Richmond – Jules had stopped being afraid of loud noises long before magic entered his life).

The knowledge that he was different from the other kids at school, that he had magic, didn't impede his ability to make friends. Instead, it was all the time he spent in time-out. Teachers were quick to brand him a trouble-maker for both his love of pranks and his uncanny ability to start fights with other kids in the play yard every time someone wasn't looking. It didn't matter if Jules was the target, or if it was his friend, or someone he didn't know at all. If someone started doing something that he didn't think was right, he stepped in. Luckily, five year olds can't do much to seriously hurt each other. But still, it landed him in time-out often enough, and poor Rosa got more and more calls about her unruly son. Eventually, enough was enough, and she decided that it was time he got a good lecture – along with a couple of smacks to the head. Jules wasn't exactly cured of his ways, but at least he got better at knowing where the line was drawn – and when it was acceptable to cross it.

As Jules grew older, Rosa started depending on him more and more. She took him to doctor appointments to translate her broken mix of English and Tagalog, had him take official phone calls for her so she wouldn't have to speak, and had him negotiate with their landlord, because she didn't trust her ability to do it well enough. Jules took on more and more responsibility, almost becoming a parent in his own right. His mom worked two jobs and late nights, so he learned to cook and made dinner for her from the few ingredients stocked in their fridge so she'd have something to eat when she got home. As he got taller and more responsible, Rosa seemed to shrink, time and her heavy work load weighing her down.

Leaving for Salem's when Jules was eleven was both the most exciting and most painful thing he'd ever done. He hated leaving his mom. Who was going to talk for her, or make her dinner, or give her a good morning kiss? And Richmond wasn't exactly a safe neighborhood. Even at his young age, he knew that much. But Rosa insisted, saying that they would write each other every week (a tradition they still continue, even today) and that she would be fine. Besides, didn't he want to learn all about magic? He'd learn so many wonderful things, and then during breaks he could come home and they could go into magical San Francisco so Jules could show off and not get in trouble for using underage magic. It'd be the best experience of his life, she promised.

Name: Shu
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Country of Origin: Phoenicis
Weapon: Jian

Pokemon:

  • Species: Gallade
  • Nickname: Wu
  • Gender: Male
  • Moves: Psycho Cut, Night Slash, Destiny Bond, Teleport
  • Other: Shu and Wu are a frustrating pair to go up against to say the least. The two have mastered working in tandem, taking full advantage of Wu's teleport ability to dance around foes, coming from every side and disappearing before an enemy hit can land. The only snag is that while the two are usually well-synced, every now and then Shu will be teleported somewhere she doesn't anticipate, throwing her off and leaving her open to attack.

Appearance:

Personality: Though she seems quiet and introspective, Shu is surprisingly rash, rushing into action and making up her plans on the fly. She's usually quick enough to make up for any lack of preparation, but it can often lead to her getting in over her head. She's just calm enough through it all that she looks like she's in control. (She's really not in control. Ever. And she knows it.) Calm does not mean gentle, however. Shu is ruthless, both as an opponent and a person. Life as a perpetual target has made her wary of strangers, closed off, and quick to distrust. As skeptical as she tries to be though, she's desperate for any sort of acceptance. If you somehow manage to earn her trust, she'll stand by you no matter what – even to unhealthy extremes.

Short Biography: Shu is the product of a brief affair between Beth, a woman from Leonias, and Han, a man from Phoenicis. They were by no means in love with each other, but they managed to put their cultural differences aside for at least one night of companionship. Then they learned Beth was pregnant. She stayed with Han in Phoenicis long enough to give him a daughter, but left as soon as she was able – a single night spent with the enemy was one thing, but to start a family with him? She'd be disowned (and likely suffer much worse fates) the second the baby called her "Mama." And so Shu grew up with her single father. While there were glimpses of Phoenicis in her, it was clear she had foreign blood in her veins.

Shu and Han were looked upon with suspicion, hatred, and even disgust. Han's business declined and Shu dealt with mocking and sneers from the other children every day. People were certain they were spies. And if not, then traitors at the very least. Perhaps that was why Shu was so eager to become a soldier and fight for her country the moment she was old enough. Her father had been an accomplished swordsman in the war before an injury forced him to retire, and he taught her everything he knew about fighting and wielding a blade. People were no kinder to her in the military than they'd been in her hometown, but at least they treated her with some respect when they saw her fight.

It was almost too good to be true when her emperor called for a tenuous alliance with the warring nations. If they could end this pointless conflict… then maybe being born of two nations wouldn't be such an evil thing. She would no longer be the daughter of a traitor and the enemy. And so, Shu volunteered for this foolhardy and dangerous quest.
