... What sort of weapons are on the ship?
eyyy another person welcome aboard~
Aya/Cosmos

Aya couldn't make out much from where she was pressed to the ground, but it was easy enough to piece together that the four on the roof had not been expecting them. There was shouting, the sound of footsteps, the sharp sound of something cutting through the air. There was a sudden increase of pressure on her back and then – none at all.

Blood rushed back to her wrists as Aya scrambled with this new freedom. She crawled forward, as far as she could get from Likho, before flipping onto her back, still trying to get away while sitting. A slash of blood, tar-black in the dark of the night, was drawn across the edge of his left shoulder. The thick material of his jacket began to stain, a flower blooming across his arm. His amber eye was narrowed and immediately the long staff that had been strapped to his back was in his hand. He stood crouched, ready to charge forward and engage. The silver of his two sai at his waist glinted in the moonlight, as though eager for action.

Then his eye cut to her, and Aya froze.

"Justice," he repeated at the girl who'd apparently spoken. His gaze never left Aya. "Well this is about justice," he said. His eye finally turned back to the other girl and Aya felt the breath escape her in a rush at being freed from his gaze. "And it has nothing to do with you."

Wes/Likho

Wes was glowering under his mask, eyes trained on the two blonds in front of him. The other two had made themselves scarce, hanging back on a distant roof but he made sure to keep an eye on them, lest they try anything. The night air bit at the fresh wound on his shoulder. The girl was quick and had good aim, he'd give her that. He'd dodged as soon as he'd seen her raise her weapon, and had still managed a scratch. It wouldn't be happening again.

He looked back at Aya, small and scared as she stared at him with wide brown eyes. Angry scratches dirtied her cheek, her collar bones, down her shins – Wes clenched his jaw as he took in what this situation looked like to an outsider.

He didn't relax his stance, but released one of his hands from his staff to point a finger at Aya.

"This girl is connected with at least one dangerous criminal, probably more."

"I - what?" she stammered out, her voice frail and halting.

"Don't." His voice cut through the air, low and sharp. The girl's mouth snapped shut. "I just need answers from her, that's all."

"Y-you tackled me to the ground!" she said, her voice incredulous. It was still hesitant and wavering, but when Wes looked back at Aya there was a new sort of spark in her.

"You ran," he said shortly.

"Some masked lunatic corners me on a deserted street in the middle of the night and I'm not going to run?!" Wes was annoyed to see there was actual logic in her statement. When she put it that way. "And-" Aya turned to look at the two vigilantes, her eyes turning pleading. "Please, I – I don't know what he's talking about I was just walking home from the library and –" she looked back at Wes. He was slightly mortified to see her eyes were watering. But his certainty that she was his key was unwavering.

"You do know," he cut her off. "And you're going to tell me about Cosmos."

@Wishful Stray just a heads up, you use two different names in your cs – ashlynn and alysnn
I'm with hoppi. I think we can get away with using this thread, but a brand new interest check might be good, rather than just bumping the old one. Idk, we can talk more about the new thread with whoever pokes the int. check.

woo!

Consciousness trickled back to Rae like drops of water from a half-closed faucet. And then all at once she was alert. She jolted in her pod, eyes darting, trying to take in and process everything. Her fellow delinquents were in similar pods, all in varying states of confusion and panic. A familiar voice rang through her ears - J. He sounded… different somehow. Then he sounded frantic.

Rae had been on enough trips with her stuck-up parents to recognize the atmosphere re-entry for what it was – and how it wasn't going the way it was supposed to. The urgency in J's voice rang in time with the pounding of Rae's blood in her ears. She squeezed her eyes shut as the pressure increased its tight hold on her body, forcing her breath to come out in shallow puffs.

Until finally they crashed into the planet's surface.

Rae was still trying to collect herself and her tattered senses when the pod opened like breath. She glanced around at the others as she tried to remember how to move. A shaky foot lifted. Pushed forward. Met the floor of the ship. Then the other. Rae stood in the ship with the others, trying to make sense of everything. Then the door opened.

Light poured into the hull like wine into a cup, intoxicating with its warmth. Rae pushed forward towards it, trying to see what lay beyond the door.

"Whoa," she breathed out.

It was a world, but unlike any she'd seen before. Wild and overgrown with every shade of green and brown, with visible insects crawling this way and that, it was an untamable vision, inviting and frightening. Her mouth was open slightly, a look of pure awe in her eyes. The sky above was as infinite as the view from a shuttle, but so much more blue, solid looking as though she could reach up and hold it in her hand. The air was thicker than she was used to, heavy and filling as she breathed it in.

Rae stretched a leg out. Burnished metal glinted between her prison boots and the thin material of her pants. She took one step out. Then another. A delighted smile lit up her face and she took another testing step. A laugh bubbled up in her chest, spilling out of her lips. Rae turned back to look at her fellow inmates. "Well? You coming out or what?"

Artemis raised a silver eyebrow behind her mask at the two children. That she might not be human in this world was… interesting. Troubling? Curious. Artemis had no idea what not being human meant. She didn't feel any different. Well, aside from the exhaustion, terror, and crushing existential pain. That all seemed downright reasonable though, considering the circumstances. Besides, they were just kids. While they certainly knew more than her about this world, they didn't know everything. The Witch's tale rang through her mind again.

Then the boy propositioned her. The corner of her mouth quirked up as something familiar sparked in her chest: curiosity struck against cockiness to create a mischievous little flame. It was something she'd always had, but Artemis had truly nurtured it in her previous life – the one that came after dancing and heartbreak, but before shadows and demons. It was out of place here, she knew. But it was the closest thing to home she had now, and Artemis clung to it in the darkness. As she looked at the two masked children, she felt its warmth zip through her. Her smile grew.

"Hmm," she hummed to herself. She looked skywards and tilted her head to the side, pretending to contemplate their offer. She dipped her head to the other side. The Artemis looked back at the boy. She had heard of kitsune before (though who knew if they were the same thing here) – tricky little fox spirits that stole from the unsuspecting and liked playing with fire. Her smile turned a bit sardonic at that. Being one wouldn't be too much of a stretch. "Well," Artemis finally drawled out, "I suppose you have earned my help since you managed to figure me out."

Artemis really hoped they weren't real in the forest. (They probably were.)

"Tell you what," she said, "you make sure the Pirate's properly distracted, I'll do what I can with the gryphon." Her eyes flicked over to said Pirate, still warring with the ruined saddle. They darted over to the gryphon that'd managed to make its way near, sitting at the edge of the Witch's barrier. "Then we'll see about the flying."

The gryphon's thumping tail pounded out a frantic beat on the forest floor.

This was stupid. Reckless. Ill-advised. Artemis didn't even know gryphons existed before this. They were probably dangerous. And if they managed this, stealing a mount from what looked to be a very armed man – and a friend of the Witch's, no less – was a horrible idea.

Just what Artemis needed right now.

Pushing away from the tree, Artemis considered her options. They gryphon was… not what she was expecting. It seemed oddly tame for a mythical winged beast. Friendly, even. Downright dog…like…

Artemis froze at this revelation. Because… no. Would that work? She stared at the gryphon for a moment longer. Then she began searching the forest floor. Before long she found what she was looking for, and Artemis rose to her full height with a hefty half-rotten tree branch in her hands. If this actually worked, she was going to fling herself at the nearest carnivorous tree. She waggled the branch a bit in the gryphon's direction, then turned on her heel.

With one last prayer that the kids were dealing with the Pirate, Artemis flung the branch as far as she could into the forest.
