yaaay finally posted! so i'm thinking the current layout looks like:

MONSTER W----> <-------B

so brand and west can cross paths or something can happen with that?
West pushed herself up from where she sat on the forest floor, no longer able to justify her inaction. She'd spent too long sitting, knees curled up to her chest, her fingers worrying at sticks and grass, mindlessly tearing them apart. Her eyes had been unfocused for so long, staring at nothing, that when she finally forced herself back to reality she had to squeeze her eyes shut against her swimming vision. Now she leaned against a wide, rough tree brow furrowed.

She was alone. She'd never been alone before.

She'd had a small village, in the beginning. And a mother. They'd left the village when West was old enough to know it was a mistake – that being alone meant quick regret and a slow death. But her mother had killed a man who'd stolen from them and they'd fled before justice could find them.

They'd spent a terrifying, exhausting week on their own before a group of nomads found them and took them in. The group had been a few dozen strong, at the time. It'd dwindled to seven people. Six now that she'd left.

She'd left. How stupid could she be? It didn't matter how good she was with her swords, people just didn't survive on their own in this world.

And the others… would they be alright? West didn't agree with them but… didn't she owe them something? Her protection? Her loyalty? They'd taken her and her mother in when they'd had nothing to offer. They'd taken care of West when her mother was lost.

A monstrous rumble caught her attention and made the hair stand up on the back of her neck. It sounded close. It rumbled like thunder, sending a jolt of nerves through the forest and down her spine. The monsters meant death. Not fear, not danger, not warning. Just death.

West finally pushed herself away from the tree and began moving through the forest, away from the rumble.

Looks awesome!
hectic day today, and probably again tomorrow… i'm gonna try to get some stuff done tomorrow, so post should be expected on saturday!
Lexa still couldn't force herself to move. Moving meant action. It meant decisions. And she wasn't ready for those. She scoffed and rolled her eyes at Jack's comment, but it wasn't much of a distraction from the messy cluster of thoughts buzzing in her head.

What was she going to do about Jack? She could've just let him die but instead she'd saved him (well, Tyrell had saved him… and that was a whole other mess to deal with now). And now, because of her, he'd be able to kill and hurt innocent people again. All of those lives, everything he did – it'd be on her shoulders, now. The logical option was to hand him over to the authorities, but what jail could possibly hold him with his powers?

And Ty knew about her. She'd brought him into this, used him and he deserved more than that. He deserved answers. He deserved safety. Lexa didn't know how to ensure that.

But the question that consumed her most of all: had Shirley been telling the truth about her powers? Was she part of the same twisted experiment that had made Jack all he was? A part of her knew it made sense. She remembered the piercing, searing pain from 9's power, how it'd felt too real to be an illusion. What if… what if it hadn't been? She remembered the feral intensity of her hate, her anger, her fear afterwards. Was that… was that who she would've been if she hadn't escaped? Was that who she was?

Lexa closed her eyes and wished she could just sleep through this nightmare.

"So that Shirley guy's a prick. I see why you want to kill him." Her conversational tone was at odds with how her broken voice rasped and tripped over the words.
I see you already have someone but if you need another... this idea is just so cool to me. Let me know if you'd like another partner!

Eventually Artemis found herself trying not to slink as she made her way through the back alleys of Oyagun Nai. Nura had been hidden away at the edge of the town, along with the staff (trying to leave with it had only ended with the gryphon following and nipping after her) and the rabbit mask (Artemis was fairly certain any benefit it would've granted her wouldn't be worth the swift imprisonment and/or death she'd face if she was caught with it).

The Oyagun Nai was a marvel, even in the dark – sandy and sea-kissed, laced with odd runic machinery Artemis didn't know how to begin to understand. Voices echoed through the streets, shouts and cried joining to make a single murmuring blanket that covered the village.

Food, clothes, weapons, gear.

The list repeated in her head as she crouched behind a building, listening to the passing of footsteps. Her own steps were silent as a secret thanks to her runes. The echoes of the rune Oseely had burned into her hand still tingled her flesh, itching for use. Not for the first time, she eyed the pulley system above her, basket ripe with the promise of supplies. But she didn't have enough control over Nura yet to grab them on a fly-by, and with this many people out and about she didn't trust that she could climb up and grab the loot without being seen. Of course, the darkness would work in her favor… But getting caught fifty feet off the ground on a tight-rope wasn't the most appealing idea.

The footsteps she'd been tracking disappeared deeper into the village, and Artemis took the opportunity to dash from her hiding spot behind a building to an alley across the road. It was lined by two buildings, houses or small stores, if she had to guess, wide open windows revealing the interiors were dark and still. The alley was maybe forty feet long, turning left at the end. Artemis hurried across the road, intending to follow the alley.

"Come on, Jani said north end's a wreck!"

A voice bounced off the walls and Artemis cursed as her heart jumped to her throat. She'd already entered the alleyway when she saw the flickering of torchlight dancing on the walls. Without thinking, she dove right, through the window of a building. Artemis toppled over herself, landing flat on her back and shaking the floor, but the collision was a silent one, at least. It wasn't one of her more graceful moves. Her skirt was a mess around her, lifted dangerously high on her torso. Her hand was crushed over her mouth, trying to stifle her coughing after her fall, tears burning her eyes. She tried to get a hold of herself as whoever was running to the north end passed by her window without incident.

Artemis took a moment to just lay there, not-choking and definitely not-reviewing-all-her-mistakes. When she was finally confident she could breathe without wheezing, she let her hand fall from her mouth. Placing it on the ground, she used it to push herself up with a wince and a stifled groan. That landing had hurt.

Artemis blinked and took in her new surroundings.
