If you think it might be a while until you are ready to jump in, we can always start with the current six Rangers we have and then your character could come on as a seventh Ranger at a later point. Like, if you want to be the Black Ranger, we could say the Black Energem didn't bond with anyone yet until your character encounters it.

Also, at some point I definitely want our Rangers to seek out power-ups/upgrades on Phaedos, similar to what they did with the 1995 PR movie. Actually found the entire film on YT, don't know how long it will be up for though.

One idea to have a chronological meeting point for everyone is to say they all joined an afterschool club for anime, comics, video games, or whatever. Maybe earlier in the Summer they all pitched in so their club could go to Anime Expo or San Diego Comic-Con or something. That could be the first time they all really got to know each other as a group outside of school, and they've been hanging out ever since.

So about the RP itself. Let’s talk about our shared history. :D

How did they all meet/become friends? What’s the dynamics like? What do the others think of each other?

Well, my initial thought was they they were all friends in the same grade like the original PR, but since we'll have them in at least two different grades, we could say they all met at one of Ryan's Drag Story Hours or maybe a Pride Parade or at the Angel Grove Youth Center or something. I still have to finish their bios, but Tommy and Eddie have been best friends ever since they got partnered together on a science fair project back in fifth grade. If anyone wants to have their characters be part of that initial friendship, feel free to thread them into that science fair somehow.

Yep MMPR also realized that having a Asian Yellow Ranger and a Black kid as the Black Ranger probably wasn't the smartest move, so when Trini and Zach left the Black Ranger Adam was played by Johnny Yong Bosch who is half Korean and the second Yellow Ranger Aisha was played by the Black Karan Ashley

Also, fun fact, Trini doesn't have a skirt like Kimberly in the original Power Rangers because in the footage adapted, the Yellow Ranger is actually a guy LOL.

They actually had a male Pink Ranger in one of the Super Sentai series that wasn't adapted for Power Rangers.

The first modern Rangers, yeah. The team before us was Zordon's team that Rita betrayed.

Onboard we meet Zordon, a cosmic wizard from the planet Eltar who is trapped within the ship's damaged Warp Core, his body stuck in a form of living energy. Sensors detected us bonding with the Energems, which pulled Zordon from a deep slumber. His friend and droid Alpha 5 used the ship's transporter system to teleport us onboard, and we learn that the Energems were created by cosmic beings known as the Dragon Masters in ancient times to empower the first team of Rangers. Long after the Dragon Masters ascended to a higher plane of existence, the Green Ranger Rita turned against the Red Ranger Zordon and their team. In the final battle, the other Rangers died, and Zordon managed to sacrifice himself to seal Rita inside a space dumpster. Yet somehow his essence remained as a form of living energy and he was sucked into the damaged Warp Core.

After Rita's betrayal and the death of his team, Zordon was reluctant to let the Energems fall into anyone else's hands, and so he chose a random planet with deep oceans (Earth) and had Alpha dump them into the water. They cloaked the ship, locked it into orbit around Earth, and both Zordon and Alpha entered a centuries-long slumber, only to be awakened when the earthquake brought the Energems to the surface where we bonded with them.

From here we'll just go with the flow, but obviously Rita will get free and we'll morph and fight her forces and so on.
