@hagroden A walking, breathing contradiction. I love it. Accepted, feel free to post him in the character tab.

Everyone else, my character is up. I'm gonna wait for a few more people to start this, but hopefully it won't be long. There's going to be more information released in the second post soon, so keep an eye out as well. This includes, but is not limited to: infected types, location info, remaining organisations and current state of the rest of the planet.

Stay tuned.
@SgtEasy Accepted of course, feel free to post it in the characters tab. Glad to have you back.
I should have my character up tonight sometime. Stay tuned.
@Xalo@hellrazor Both accepted, well done on the applications. If you could both post your applications in hiders under the characters tab, that'd be great.

@Stekkmen Of course! Post your CS here when its done and I'll take a looksie.

Emergency Frontline Report: August 21st, 2018

**This knowledge is considered common knowledge, and is available for all characters to learn at your discretion.**

Survival is a four letter word. Hope.

(Thanks to @Xalo for helping with the intro/lore.)

It all started in the country. A rural Entomology Lab, St. Mary’s Memorial Laboratory, was working with local hematologists that were investigating a rise in the transfer of diseases from leeches. These leeches had been monitored, and had found to be storing previous blood sources for years longer than anticipated. To test the longevity and bodily cleansing of these illnesses, the researchers attempted introducing disease after disease.

The testing went on for weeks without a hitch, and great progress was being made. That was, until an ill matter amalgamated to cause a minor, and unforseen evolutionary mutation within the leech. Their teeth began to protrude more from their bodies, their mating calls and screeches were audible, and they lunged. It was only a matter of time before disaster struck.

A medical intern that had been assigned to learn at the facility had volunteered to watch over the experiments overnight was caught off guard by their violent and aggressive nature. By dawn, the leeches had overrun his body and had spread across the lab. By midday, they had escaped the unprepared, non CDC certified lab and populated the local waters.

It wasn’t long before the local reservoir was contaminated, causing locals to find themselves suffering, perishing, and soon turning against the living by the hundreds - then thousands. Before three days had passed, the pandemic had spread nationally, then globally by week's end; there was nothing to prepare the world governments to handle such an aggressive and immediate threat with no direct source as to what or how it came to be. With most the world's population either dead, dying, or fighting for survival, you are left in one of the few and remaining safe bunkers left in the US. Though resources are dwindling, minds are lingering from the claustrophobic atmosphere, and you're not sure what will happen next with the instability of the other inhabits unpredictable.

Overview:

This is a mainly character driven roleplay. Your choices will have a direct impact on the storyline. Player characters can die if stupid choices are made. I will not hesitate to kill off a character if you give me a reason to. That being said, I will not go out of my way to do so. I am running this because I enjoy the freedom that this setting gives people to roleplay, and it allows for some awesome character development.

In this roleplay you will be deciding the fate of your character(s) and following their new life in the zombie apocalypse.

It is set in August 2018, beginning on the outskirts of Toronto, Canada. Given the area and time that we’re starting in, I expect people to cohere to the environment. Canada in August, you can expect temperatures in the range of 20 to 30 Celcius (70 to 85 ish Fahrenheit) mixed in with varying weather. I’ll be putting a weather report that can be RP’d to be heard over the emergency channel at the beginning of the occasional post, which is to be taken as the current weather for the majority of participants.

The first post for each character will be similar to a normal day in their lives, a few months before the initial outbreak. This serves two purposes. One, it allows for a decent introduction of the character itself, and two, it allows us to see the starting point of the character’s morality and values. After that we will skip to a week after the outbreak began. Characters will begin somewhere in the Greater Toronto Area, though where that is will be up to you. To have survived this long into the outbreak, you would have most likely found some sort of safehouse. Supplies will be starting to run thin at this point.

It is intended that players will not be running solo throughout the whole RP. You may form groups before the start of the RP, but please update your CS when you do so that I may add them to the main OOC page.

Rules and Expectations:

- Standard guild rules apply above all else.

- Co-GM’s word is law, GM’s word is absolute final.

- The rules may seem harsh, however I consider myself a decent and fair person. I will respect each and every one of you the same until you give me a reason not to. If you are honest with me and don’t try and take advantage of me, we will get along just fine.

- This is a high casual to low advanced level RP. While I don’t want to set a minimum writing requirement, I do not want to see one liners. Two to three detailed paragraphs is sufficient as long as it’s not all dialogue, more is always welcome. Grammar wise, as long as it’s decently legible you’re fine.

- It is expected that if you write a CS for this and it is accepted that you are committing yourself to this RP fully. If you are the kind of person that hops into an RP and bails a few posts later because you lost interest, don’t join. That being said, I’m not expecting a rapid rate of posts. Take your time, put detail into your writing. There may be periods where activity is low, there may be times where people are pumping out multiple posts per day. I intend for this RP to go on for quite while.

- On the topic of post frequency. Try not to double post (and I’m not referring to accidents or forum bugs). Allow around three other posts after your own before you post again. This allows a fairly balanced view of the group, and not clusters of certain people.

- Rock solid posting rules. Do not spam OOC. Do not @mention people in the IC, reactions should be based on the player reading all the posts (Credit to @Lady Amalthea for this one). If I see that you’re not posting in this RP, but you’re active elsewhere on the Guild, I will boot you and kill off your character.

- Characters, keep em real. No person is absolutely perfect. People are flawed, RP it out that way. It makes for a more interesting and immersive experience. Your character will not land every shot on target every time, nor will they be perfect at every survival skill. This is not an action hero roleplay, your character may get injured. You are not invincible. If you RP it that way, I will take action.

- Any arguing or so called “debates” will have to go the PM. I will not tolerate any slander or any name calling in the OOC. It is supposed to be a friendly-zone where everyone can discuss whatever they want whether about the roleplay or real life. There is a strict “Three Warnings then You’re Out” system enforced by both me and the Co-GM’s. It is self-explanatory. Don’t be an asshat.

- There are no language or gore filters in place. It’s gonna get messy. This IS NOT for the faint of heart. For the romance stuff, keep it PG-13. If you feel the need to go further, fade to black on the forums. I do not care if you continue it on Skype or Chatzy or whatever, but keep it off of the forums.

- If you’re expecting to be fighting zombies in every post, with massive firefights and lots of gore, this isn’t the RP for you. There will be down times with no action whatsoever, but where character development and interaction is everything. There will be other dangers like lack of food, the cold and other people. Don’t get me wrong though. When we do see zombies, the shit will hit the fan.

- Do NOT post a Work-In-Progress CS here, only final ones.

- Pleading ignorance to the rules is not a valid excuse and I have no tolerance for it. I will kick you from the RP if you try this.

This is not a first come first serve roleplay. When you submit your CS I will review it, I will look at your past roleplaying history on the guild, and if you are new to RPing with me I may ask for a writing sample. Only after all of this checks out will you be accepted into the RP. Take your time with the CS.

As well, I want to see an at least somewhat gender balanced cast. Any special requests can be PM'd to me.

CS Template

**Post your CS on the OOC page for approval. Anyone placing unaccepted characters into the Characters tab will not be considered for this RP. Do not post work in progress CS's in the OOC thread, only finished ones.**

Other Information:

- While you can contact me here via PM or @mention in the OOC, you will almost always have a better chance at messaging me over Skype. You can message me at live:shoxio.

- It is recommended that you write your post off site in a program like Google Drive, MS Office or other. That way, if the site goofs and you lose your post here, you have it saved offsite.

- Collabs are not only allowed, but highly encouraged. Some good sites for these are Google Drive and Titanpad, among others.

- Those who participated in the original Lonely World will be allowed to resubmit their character, as long as they still meet the same CS template and setting. Mentions: @Nallore@Zhaliora@agentmanatee@Scout@Orlan@MetalHead@SgtEasy@Remipa Awesome@vietmyke@Caits@booooooooks

Echo Young

Location: Radio Station, then leaving for the Café
Interacting With:

“Gooood Morning Red Lake, and welcome back to 88.9 Riot FM! How about we start off with an old favorite, made new. Here’s ‘The Almost’ and their rendition of Free Fallin.”

The young woman’s voice was strong and happy over the air, welcoming to each and every individual in Red Lake. The song began shortly after with a fluid transition and the practiced movements of Echo’s fingers across the soundboard in front of her.

Echo leaned back in her rather comfy leather desk chair, strumming the invisible guitar in her lap, completely captured by the song blaring through her headphones. She loved her job; Hell she would’ve done it even without the payment that she got from the small adverts that she was obligated to throw in here and there. It helped pay for upkeep.

As the song began to close, she flicked a switch on the soundboard and brought her actual guitar onto her lap. She played along with the crisp riffs, overlaying her own sound with that of the song playing. Her fingers glided effortlessly across the frets, ringing out crisp and clear notes to harmonize with the song, before it began to fade out.

“Its a beautiful 77 degrees this morning in Red Lake, and the sun, she’s a shinin’ bright. Traffic is as always in this town. Fortunately for you inhabitants, that means traffic is awesome. Now, onto the good stuff.”

She wheeled over to her laptop while a quick transition riff played over the air, before bringing her mic back up.

“Now if you want all the big news, go watch it on Fox or somethin, this here is the local news. First up, Red Lake High has recently had some graffiti issues and police are open to anyone who has any information. Go get em guys.”

“Next, some news you may be a little more interested in. I’m looking for a co-host of sorts, perhaps a fellow musician even. Spice up the show a bit. You guys know where to send your feedback and info. Hell, stop by the station if you’re really interested.”

“Finally, the annual RV trip is coming up and I will be out of town for a few days. Ajay will be running round the clock music for you, but don’t be expecting the daily show until I come back. That being said, I will still be looking over all of you comments and feedback on both the Twitter page: @Riot889, and through the phones. Don’t hesitate to call the station.”

Echo typed up a quick synopsis of the news and posted it on the Twitter page before sliding across the studio in the chair back over to the soundboard. She picked up her guitar once again and began to play the opening riffs of the next song, teasing the listeners.

“That’s right, its time for some R H C P! Here’s the Chili’s with Can’t Stop, on your one and only local radio station, Riot 88.9.”

Echo slowly faded out her own playing into the song before letting it play on its own. She slid back and let it play through the studio speakers. She leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes, letting the classic riffs fill her mind and take her away from reality. It was going to be a good day.

“Ajay, I’m heading out for the next few days. Don’t burn the place down.”

Echo walked out from the station and hopped onto her bike, pedaling gently down the gravel driveway leading into town, where she spotted the usual gang down by the Café. She slowed down as she approached, coming to a halt just a few feet away from the Twins, just as Cody seemed to be leaving.

“Hey guys, whatcha up to?”

Mya LaCroix

Location: Red Lake Café, then leaving for the Police Department
Interacting With: Aron

The black silhouette of a BMW X6 came into view as it turned the corner, followed by two NYPD cruisers. The three vehicles pulled over to side and stopped just before a small flat in New York’s less friendly district, four officers revealing themselves from the cruisers followed by a female detective from the black SUV. The detective nodded to the officers, of which two of them moved up to the house and flanked either side of the doorway, the two others slowly going around to the rear. The detective moved up to the door, drawing her Glock 19 from it’s holster and moving to the side of the door. With her off hand, she knocked firmly on the door and shouted out “NYPD, open up!”

No answer.

The officer behind her moved up with a shotgun while the detective and the officer opposite took a few steps back.

One shot and the door handle was gone.

Two, three. Both hinges.

The door fell inwards as the two officers moved in, followed by the detective. Two officers went to the left of the building, through the kitchen and into the bedrooms. The other pair went right into the dining room and living room. This left the basement for the detective. They swept the building and each room with surprising efficiency, before they converged in the main hall once again. No suspect. The officers holstered their weapons and began to search around for evidence throughout the house, while the detective went back to the black BMW. She reached for the radio hooked onto her dash, bring it up to the side of her mouth.

“Bravo 4-9 to Command.” The detective’s voice was crisp and sharp as she spoke, only saying what needed to be said.

“Go ahead Bravo 4-9.”

“Command, show our unit as 10-97 at the corner of Albert and--”

Three shots rang out from in the house, before a man hopped over the fence beside the house and began to run.

“Command, we have shots fired on location, I am in pursuit of suspect on foot.”

The detective bolted from the vehicle and began to sprint after the potential shooter, the soles of her shoes slamming down on the hot concrete road beneath her. With an effortless movement she vaulted the same fence and began to follow the man, who was now a good 100 feet in front of her. A grin spread across her face. This was going to be fun. Who didn’t love a good game of cat and mouse?

“NYPD, get down on the ground!” The woman’s voice was stern, yet somehow entertained by the current situation. She continued to run, gaining on him every second that they continued the chase. He turned a corner and disappeared, but she knew the city better. With a quick jump, clamber and roll, she managed to scale a 10 foot stone wall with the assistance of a well placed dumpster and years of practice in chasing suspects. She landed with a quick exhale and a recovery roll before rounding the corner onto the sidewalk. Twenty five feet ahead of her, the man continued to run, though it was now evident that he was beginning to tire. She took the opportunity to shout her warning once again, trying to get any remaining energy out of him. She slowed to a jog, matching the man’s speed before reaching for her radio “I need a cruiser to intercept at 48th and the freeway in the next 5 minutes!”

She looked up and began to sprint again, easily gaining on the man. This was all part of the plan. The police cruiser would show up just as she took down the suspect, just in time for them to see her catch and give her all the glory. Just how she liked it.

Ten feet away. Ten feet till glory.

Another shot rang out. The detective’s eyes widened as she went from sprinting, to collapsing onto the front lawn of an everyday suburban home. So much for glory.

“Officer d-down….forty eigh-tth avenue…”

Mya shook her head out of the past, looking back to the screen of her laptop as her left hand ran over her ribcage where the bullet had entered. The doctors had said it was a miracle that she had survived, but Mya knew otherwise. It boggled her mind that she had decided against a bulletproof vest that day, but that was all in the past anyway. Back to the case at hand.

She looked over to the folder spread across the Café’s booth table and examined the pictures, then began to look over the evidence summary of the crime scene. It was a seemingly easy case to solve; The suspect had no alibi for that night, multiple witnesses placed him at the scene and they had enough DNA from the crime scene to clone the man. However, the victim refused to put him at the scene and gave a description completely opposite to the original suspect. Mya shook her head and rubbed her eyes, neatly stacking the papers back up and tucking the folder back away into her bag, before waving over Aron “Could I get a another coffee? This case has been harder to solve than I expected and I need a little caffeine break.” She smiled at him and spoke with a kind, but tired voice.

Mya looked back to her laptop and glanced to the time. One more hour of work and then she’d go home. No, two...Fine. An hour and a half, meet in the middle. She scrolled through the report for what seemed to be the hundredth time, trying to pick out a detail that would close this whole mess of a case. The words all seemed to melt together on the screen, as if trying to hide any relevant details from the tired detective.

Forget it. Mya closed the lid of her laptop and leaned back against the seat of the booth, looking out of the window at her jet black BMW X6, the hidden police lights just barely visible under the grill and on the front of the mirrors. The sun glinted off of the black paint and illuminated the slightly blue colored, bulletproof windows of her vehicle. Mya had had the vehicle since she was promoted to detective first grade. It had been a gift from a rather wealthy client that she had worked a private case for, and had taken the place of a payment in cash. And she loved every bit of it. She looked down and finished the coffee in front of her before leaving a rather hefty tip for the twins and walking outside. Time to go to work.
