VATICAN FOLLOW UP ATTACKS FOILED

Tightened Security Measures Saving Millions

In the days after the terrible Vatican City attacks, it seems that terrorist groups wished to use the bombing as a spring board into momentum for further attacks. But not today it seems! Security Forces across Europe have buckled down and made ready with hundreds of new checkpoints, patrols and raids on potential terrorist hideouts.

The retribution of justice has been swift, foul plans for even more attacks on a perhaps even greater and even more terrible scale. Through subtle manipulations with bribes and sleeper agents and informational warfare as well as direct application of unrelenting and efficient force, many in the Security Forces have become “headhunters”, taking pride in the number of raids and busts they have taken part in. Some raids have escalated into full scale skirmishes and battles but spokespersons have assured us that the collateral damage is at an “acceptable but unavoidable levels”. Weapon and security stocks should expect to see a steady rise in the coming months.

Progress on the rebuilding of the Vatican City continues as the donations and materials flood in, stores and malls across the world are running charity events. Volunteers and workers from around the world gather in the smoldering ruins and ashes. Stocks continue to rise in the construction and materials industries as many displaced citizens try to find new jobs and homes; there does not seem to be any attempt at reforming the EEC. The morning was soft and warm, temperatures where unusually hot outside for June but Zhao felt none of it as he sat in his air conditioned office suite. Work was going as normal as it could be given the news from a few days ago, there were still papers to sort, orders to give and works to read through.

“Xiao, where’s the new chapter copies from Sinolutions?” Zhao fumbled through the mess of papers currently littering his desk as the child steward came forward to help dig through it, “I told Meifeng to put it somewhere but that woman never knows where to put things!”

“Here it is master.” Nimble hands made short work of the mess as a packet of papers and soon enough, a clipped packet titled “Chapter 11: The Opium War – How Government Regulations on Business caused a War and Crippled an Empire. [DRAFT]”

Snatching the packet up, Zhao sat back and began to flip through it, one of his duties as a CEO was to make sure that only the real facts (or the fact that the Corporation wanted to show) were present in the textbooks. In preparation for the next school year, Zhao had to check the chapters and passages himself before they were to be bought by schools, a yearly tradition that had basically become law. Each year every school or student (if they were in college) had to but new textbooks, throwing out their old ones, to make sure that they always had the most “up-to-date and correct” information. This was the education of future generations the company was playing with here; it was of utmost importance to them that they were taught well.

With only the occasional sip of tea, the next hour was spent carefully inspected the material. A few scribbles, some underlines and the occasional note was made request that this be changed or that be explained or something to be omitted, it seemed like years since Zhao had read a textbook but it was something he put unconscious effort into.

In the midst of reading on how the Qing emperor’s increasing control and restrictions on the free trade between China and England had increased tensions and would cause the Opium War, Zhao’s phone began the jump and dance on the rich wooden desk. It read a familiar but distant name, some administrator or manager who had been put as the leader of the task force to Europe.

“Hello?” Zhao flipped a page in the manuscript.

“Oh.. .u-umm… this is Qian, you said you wanted a report when the group got to Europe?”

“Yes I did, now spit it out. Just email it to me and I’ll look over it soon. Did all of them get to the west? Even the ones meant for the corporate heads as gifts?”

“C-copy sir. Even the ‘toys’ made it there, the rest will be explained in the report. Sending it to you….. now.”

A blip flickered on the desk in the form of a hologram, a simple letter icon with its flap being opened and closed. Zhao put the papers down and flicked open the report as Qian hung up, Qian was a good manager but a good person, something which might cause issue later on. He was a promising individual but with too strong a moral code to really fit but it didn’t bother Zhao too much. If Qian was found to be too troublesome he’d either be removed completely or just given “therapy” to become like Meifeng and the other servants.

The bright letters jumped up, several thousand volunteers and other “volunteers” with an accompaniament of several dozen Red Dragon forces should have been more than enough for the project and PR. At any rate, the CEOs should appreciate his gifts to them, even if they wouldn’t personally use them Zhao was sure someone in their chain of command would be more than happy with a Christmas-in-June present. With that matter settled, Zhao looked back on his manuscript but also the computer, trying to decide what was more important. In the end, he pushed away the papers, giving them a lazy stamp of approval before looking at the computer. The time seemed right to play with some stocks, with any luck he would be able to start pushing into Europe. It didn’t take long after that more servants entered with their own laptops entering the game of stocks and several accounting departments as well. Zhao was going to make a push into Europe, just to afford the people of Europe some Chinese hospitality and safety under his own wing if nothing else…

I think that this is something a lot of people wished they could do because jesus fuck I know I was supreme shadow edgelord of eternal darkness and perpetual pain and suffering at one point even if I never had it in my online names. Now I'm just a mildly cynical weeb and but a humble meme farmer tending to a crops of hopefully spicy memes.

Overview

The GLD is a science focused race consisting of Lothrians and their subject race which they have created called the Norruks. Despite being research heavy, the Lothrians are also quite the superstitious bunch who worship an ancient alien race called the Guevissa as creator gods mostly since they know they were created by the Guevissa (before they got wiped out) who were in turn created by an even older race. The Lothrians believe that it is their duty to continue this line of creation and that once they have reached a certain point, their race will also be destroyed leaving the Norruks they have made to continue the cycle over again.

As it stand right now, the Lothrian's process of creating the Norruks have only just started recently meaning that they still have a while until their "Reckoning" comes. Being heavily focused into science and research (and being the former subject race of an even more advanced race), they have some pretty serious tech behind them. However, they lack any real military in the traditional sense with most of their weapons being converted industrial tools and their warships old research vessels with guns.

Species

Biology

Lothrians are a humanoid species whose average height ranges from 5 feet 8 inches to that of 6 feet 7 inches. Their tall bodies slender and graceful if not a bit lanky with many joints that possess hypermobility and very dexterous hands. Naturally, Lothrians are a rather pale race with skin tones that go from a ghostly white to a bright marble with hair being of similar silvery platinum color although a fiery crimson hair color can also be seen providing quite a stark contrast. Their other most defining feature are pointed ears.

The nervous system of the Lothrians is much more refined and sensitive than that of a human's which gives them excel fine motor controls and hand-eye coordination at the cost of feeling pain more acutely. Like humans, they have red, iron-based blood however they have shorter gestation periods than humans (at about 4 months) and can live up to well over a century and still be kicking around pretty actively at age 100. There is very little natural evolution in the Lothrin genome as they are creations of science born roughly 3000 years ago. Unlike almost all other races in the galaxy, they both know when they are expected to die out and also accept it, seeing it as just "part of the cycle of life" which they know.

Homeworld

Majulua is the Lothrian homeworld with very little natural ecosystems left as the entire world is a densely built up technological urban hiveworld the Lothrians inherited from their creators. The planet is full of history from the Guevissa and several other "generations" of races who had created the one after them. The entire surface of the planet is covered in some sort of urban industry or housing often building on top of each other in layers. With dozens of layers, it should be no surprise that there are other "settlements" both in the sky in floating artificial islands and in orbit as satellite colonies. However, the most impressive and easily recognizable feature of the planet is its "Iron Halo", a massive orbital shipyard and industrial complex that stretches half way around the planet's equator, connected to the ground through several "World Anchor" space elevators.

The Lorthians's fleet is rather special in a way as its ships are almost entirely of civilian design, retrofitted with military weapons and equipment. All ships once had a past life of freighters, explorers, research or transport vessels and many still do carry out their secondary roles.

I had this steampunk phase really, my first username for anything was Steamster48, then it went on to gearninja28 when I got an Xbox 360. And then when I got older, I realized that I wanted something a bit more mature. So after some mulling I was stilly trying to do something steampunkish (at this point it was just to keep theme) and then my mind wandered on to some random thing I saw about how Big Ben's ringing can be heard for miles away or something stupid and thus ClocktowerEchos. The professional asian bit is something of a joke from real life that I just tact on for shits and giggles and because it feeds my inner asian whose way too proud of their heritage

The misspelling of Echos is totally on purpose just to fuck with people and totally not because I don't know how to English gooder. Me English perfect much yes.

Sci-Fi Nation Roleplay - What would it take to hold your interest

@catchamber Everything besides FTL seems okay to ban (ignoring the fact I don't know what some of those things are) but you seem to be forgetting that in a good RP, people actually talk about what they're going to post. Unless someone is just a complete dick and teleports mega nukes into everyone's home system, there's no need to ban FTL out right. Which even if they do do that in an angry post, it can just be ignored and or retconned officially by the GM. You seem to forget that there are people behind the posts and computers.

Also, I'd imagine that having your ship take months if not years to get somewhere would be absolutely infuriating and boring. Plus, everyone is familiar to what an FTL drive is even if they don't know how it works, its simple in its practice and everyone knows it.

So are you suggesting we all go out and look up all of these strange and theoretical physics/astrology/space stuff and theories just for the purpose of playing a sci-fi NRP? I'm sorry but if everyone who wanted to play sci-fi had to know how FTL works, how does the fabric of space time interact with certain stuff and what tachyons are and their nitty gritties, then forget having and RP that dies, you would literally never be able to have an RP in the first place.

Sci-Fi Nation Roleplay - What would it take to hold your interest

If you don't ban faster than light travel, you will get surprise attacks. If you don't ban ansibles, you will get relativistic travel induced paradoxes. If you don't ban gravity manipulation, you will get impenetrable force fields. If you don't ban magical nanomachines, you will get swarms of planet eaters.

Just try to ban FTL travel in gravity wells, but that won't stop the relativistic FTL warheads from popping into the edge of your system.

Go ahead and wave FTL inhibitors and FTL sensors, but mass production and logic will still make the can of worms explode.

Try disrupting ansibles at >1% light-speed, but prolonged time dilation is still possible on galactic scales.

Blab about how energy hungry gravity engines are, but antimatter and dyson swarms will overcome that.

Say that magical nanomachines are too difficult to invent, but all it takes is one rogue scientist to create and spread the knowledge to turn the galaxy into a cybernetic hell.

Again, just use common sense and mob democracy to sort it out. If someone decides they want to have planet killing drones, then they're going to get shit on OOC very quickly. Even as cynical as I am, I still believe if you have people bound to common sense and not going overboard (and given how there's a tech base and a tech cap or something like that I think), you shouldn't have those issues. And even if you do, if the majority of players/GM believe it to be breaking the RP then it'll be removed.

No need to get into the nitty gritty advanced theoretical physics since I'm going to be honest, that's a massive turn off to anyone looking into sci-fi. Most people don't want to think on how many ways you can fuck up Newton's laws in space with vague concepts, they just want to have fun in space. I bet you if you didn't bring it up, most if not all of the people here would have no idea wtf an ansibles or thinking of how to create time paradoxes and shit.
