Sorry for my absence! A Volunteering position suddenly turned into a Volunteer Leadership position I was not expecting at all so things have been hectic.

Look at you posers, having to bang dragons or sell your soul for magic when you could just play a lute for some. Anyways, here's Wonderwall. - Bards

<Snipped quote by Jamesyco>

Yeah I know, but I don't wanna offend Asian people, so it's kinda hard to put a color in on skin..

I would either convey it through name or add in an appearance description or picture of some sort. 40k isn't always very subtle when it comes from ripping themes off in names.

I will admit to not knowing anything but I am interested in this setting and premise.

40k is a sci fi setting that is different in that its based around "grimdark". Where as Star Wars and Star Trek are about people working together for a brighter future, 40k is about people at their worse in an apathetic galaxy. It is not a happy setting but its still interesting in its own way. I can give you pointers to lore introductions with videos for beginners and websites. To answer your question though, no its highly unlikely you'll be able to play anything not starting with a human body.

WIP, let me know if there's anything that needs to be added.

Some thoughts:

  • I highly recommend watching some of Overly Sarcastic Production's videos on tropes about villains and generally things on how to write a good villain.
  • I would try to avoid having "super intelligence" a la evil Sherlock be one of your abilities unless you want to do a LOT of OOC talking with me to set it up so your character actually shows it off.
  • Beyond the evil dark lord, there's things like "magnificent bastard", "honorable/professional foe", "well intentioned extremist" and other tropes to work off of.
  • Remember, the difference between a villain and a supervillain is PRESENTATION. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*✲゚*。⋆
  • See this as well "making two character sheets" and more "making one and then tweaking it".

If there's anything else, I'll add it when I wake up. Questions and comments, feel free to ask. I might make a more fancy formatting guide, but this is the information you should have at any rate.
Is it possible to somehow shortchange the Abyss? Like by weakening or removing powers before dying in order to keep the clone from using them while the original could potentially regain them over time?

I should have made this clear that you aren't stuck under powered. The Abyssal version of you starts at like 100 while the Redeemer version starts at like 50 or 70 or whatever. You start lower but can go up.

As for shortchanging the Abyss, no. It takes you at your height and uses that as its puppet.
Interested! Might have an illusion-weaver in the pocket. Question, are there any upper limits to the scale and extent of our villains' powers?

Edit: For example, no instakill, no immortality. Self regeneration unless decapitated. Teleportation limited by sight and memory. Etc., etc.

I'm not going to put any hard limits on villain power but try not to go too insane. Remember, don't put down anything you wouldn't want to fight. If you put instakill as a pre-redemption power there's a decent chance some version of that will come into play.

As for everyone else, I think this is good enough to get started on some actual stuff now. I'll get to posting that character guide I was talking about, then an OOC.
@ClocktowerEchos Interesting idea. 2 questions that immediately come to mind:
1) Sci-Fi setting? Yes or no?
2) Canon setting? Yes or no?

Its a nebulous multiverse setting. You can have your notSauron fantasy dark lord along side a space pirate king.
Also I prefer not to use characters from pre-established settings if possible, come up with something unique!
Welcome!
@sassy1085 Awesome! Have any ideas for a character?

The Redeemer Corps

Villain. Criminal. Rogue. Scum. Felon. Terror. Blackguard. Sinner. Hero.

In your past, there was nothing that would stand in your way for revenge, for power, for wealth, for anything. You amassed faceless legions, gathered ancient artifacts, made powerful connections, influenced hundreds if not thousands, built your lair and slew thousands more in your unending ambition. But we all know how these stories end up. At the height of your power, on the precipitous of your final victory, a ragtag group of plucky heroes saved the day, destroying your schemes and condemning you to failure. But what if your story didn't end there?

Reborn through the power of the Nexus , you were given a new life and a new duty. Reality itself is threatened by a terror so unfathomably ancient and evil, none can stand against it: the Abyss. From the void it reaches out with its own armies beyond counting with great champions to lead them. And at its helm is a vanguard of the worse villains of the multiverse: you.

Welcome to the Redeemer Corps, a group of individuals from across space and time who were "villains" in their past lives before they were cut down by whatever group of young, bold adventurers finally got them. Inspired by Megamind and Suicide Squad, those villains are now brought back to live through the Nexus to fight off the Abyss that seeks to consume everything.

The main twist of the RP is that while designing your characters, you are also designing the villain they used to be. While the Nexus was able to bring you back from your bodies, the Abyss was able to bring you back from your soul, leaving two entities of the same being. This also means you are now weaker than the villain form you once were. Of course, this could also have come with a personality shift if you want to play that aspect up. Character creation will first start with you creating your character as a villain (the version the Abyss brought back) and then what they are like post-redemption (the version you will be playing as).

I hope to have some interesting character interactions and set pieces as well as looking what kind of characters come up with. I myself will not be making and playing a singular character but instead acting as more of a traditional DnD GM controlling the world and NPCs. If this gets enough traction, I'll throw up a character sheet, rules and other fun stuff.

TL;DR - Suicide Squad meets Megamind villain-turned-hero story. You got brought back to life as a nominal good guy but are weaker than when you were at the height of your power. Also the Abyss that wants to destroy and eat the multiverse also cloned you but at the height of your power. You get to fight a stronger version of yourself!
Curious, throwing my pick in.
