Steven

Steven wasn't really supposed to be in this meeting. But now that he was unable to separate from his college friend's grasp ever since they both met, he was dragged into the meeting. He hadn't asked for the opportunity to join the guild yet, but his presence would be noticed sooner or later, so he may not need to speak up than necessary.

Just like yesterday, he wore the grand white fancy suit and cloak to the meeting, along with a long musket hanging behind his back. He was mostly a background character throughout the whole ordeal, standing behind Xenos, the mysterious white glasses only contributed to his seeming absent aura, silently hearing everyone making their opinions heard. The atmosphere changed multiple times, as people were in debate over some sort of murder. Player murder. Presumably, and almost definitely, of someone within the guild. Steven quietly assessed the situation. It appeared that the murder was committed by a, or multiple, high level players. And they were residing in the dungeon, all silently waiting for their opportunity to strike at a vulnerable player.

Debates tensed. Most people appeared to be the cautious player, as they preferred to be absolutely sure to be able to face this Valentine guy first. There was one guy who thought about going after him though. He was not wrong with his opinions though. Whereas the others were progressing, they were also progressing as well. And with the knowledge that they reached level 15 before any of the guild members here could reach 10, meant that they could have a good grinding spot, but can basically grind a lot faster than Steven, Xenos or any other guild members can. And everyday meant that any players could die to their hands.

Personal view on the situation? Steven did not fully agree with any sides. He knew he needn't draw any necessary attention to him, but this seemed like something that required proper assessment. And every opinions mattered. Having processed his thoughts, Steven made his step up from behind the guild's tinker and raised his index finger, trying to grab everybody's attention.

"If I may have a word."

Just like how he practiced to defend his PhD thesis, he wasn't shy to speak in public, though his position in the guild right now may give this man a little bit of intimidation. But he swallowed all of that and hid his own fear behind the thick pair of glasses as he made his argument known.

"I am not a part of the guild yet, but I figure I should make my opinions heard on this matter." Steven said. "As far as I know, these guys are residing in a dungeon together, and is a lot higher levelled than us."

He pushed his glasses up a bit as he addressed. "Normally, I'd be on the cautious side and grind carefully, but have we considered that he reached level 15 before us. That there is a chance that he knows how to level up faster than a normal player could. So that no matter how quickly we grind, he is faster than us. Like this man says." He looked at the man who agreed to going after Valentine. "He is not going to wait for us to level up. Unless he is a masochist. But..."

He placed his fingers on his chin. "Going after him wouldn't be a good idea either. To go after a group of high levelled player, we need almost absolute knowledge of their capabilities, position and routine. If we go there and make ourselves passive to their ambush, then we are dead to every last man. We need to be on the offensive the majority of the time, or the very least the element of surprise. If possible, but unlikely I would say, apprehend them one by one, separately. But if we decides to go after them now, then they must be facing away from us."

"My argument for the matter is: lay low and collect more information before making our move." He didn't know how far the sense of justice and vengeance for this Karma guy could take these guys, but in this situation, personal feelings are not allowed. Only careful analysis.

"But feel free to ignore this player's opinions if you don't see fit." He concluded, but did not step down. He wanted to see their reactions. Because this could very much affect him directly if he decided to join the guild.
I don't mind going for a more purplish color, but there are some particular reasons why I choose that color. If you guys insist on staying with blue, then I'll consider adjusting it a bit

Yup @Inkarnate. Though this time it won't be apparent to all characters from the very start.
I wonder what drove me to this one (Still has the character concept wanted to familiarize with...)
Acion Nakamiji

Against the advice of his older sister, the young Acion did not rest for the day. But he didn't intend to make the courtyard his training ground yet. There were still too many people around for comfort and safety. One of the few reasons why he usually train by himself was because of his deadly techniques that he was practicing. Aside from direct combat, nobody should be around him when he was actually doing his work. He never minded the solidarity though. It is a great medicine to the soul, whenever he was tired of other people.

Acion flew up and landed gently on the roof of the school, having the outside view completely within his vision. Maybe he could train in the outskirt. It was usually really quiet and vacant, so he could make use of it. If he had asked nicely, he may be able to use the back area for his training.

"Hmmm?"

Or not.

It isn't vacant anymore now. Some guy was heading there right now. He seemed to have some time in his hand. Looking closely, was that Amane? That dude whom Acion fought at the auditorium. Rumors said that he was on probation for what he had done in that training exercise, and was quite 'enjoying' his time. Now that he thought about it, the guy didn't seem as demonic as some of the gossipers in the school described him to be. At least that was what he had in mind while having that talk. Of course, his ideology was nowhere righteous, but roots of bad behaviors don't tend to come from rational choices, but rather personal insecurities and social problems. Criminal behaviors also branches from those theories. So if there was anything, he'd look at him with a bit of sympathy than complete scorn, assuming he hadn't dug deeper. Maybe some day he could.

But for now, Acion didn't want to make his appearance known to him. The guy seemed to be enjoying his solitude, so better not to break it.

Turning away from the quiet backyard, some commotions over the other side of the school caught the winged man's attention. Seemed like some sort of competition, as there appeared to be a split between some of the people participating as they were standing on two sides, separated by White Hat and some of the teachers. He recognized some faces there. Two of his classmates. There was Tomoe, that sleepy girl in the gym and the dining room the other day. He wondered if she was ever present without hugging anyone? It was kind of cute, but inconvenient somewhat?

And there was Hitomi…

For some reasons, his mind went back to the exercise. He immediately grabbed his forehead before shaking lightly.

'Snap out of it. You're better than that.'

There's obviously something he needed to reflect on. Privately that is.

But still, they didn't seem to be actively participating in this one. From afar, he could see two contestant stepping up, saying something to each other. With a signal from White Hat, they both dispersed. Now that sparked his curiosity. What seemed to be the commotion?

From the rooftop, Acion made a jump before spreading his wings widely, slowing down his descent, and touching the ground nicely. He approached the two ladies casually.

"Hey guys. What seems to be the whole commotion here?"

"You got it!"

The early morning gunshots echoed into the misty cloud. It had been days ever since they arrived at the Matupi Headquarter, and Thanh had been even more active than before. By the time the next mission began, he had already known, or at least talked to, a quarter of the men in the squad. To his surprise, but not really unexpected, not many of whom were as battle-hardened or experienced like he did. Some of whom didn't even know how to use a gun properly. It seemed like the war was getting a little desperate. But in exchange, the survivor of the Battle of Hanoi didn't take it as a setback, or any source of worries. He simply accepted the situation as it was and tried his best to improve the situation. He'd volunteered to train these newcomers as extras that go in conjunction with his own training. Hopefully with his effort they could be of help on the battlefield, or at the very least get out alive.

"No no no. Don't let the ammo box touch the ground. It will be hard to adjust your aim."

And here he was, with the new bunch wanting to learn under him, as much as he could teach them.

To be honest, he didn't really expect to be such a tutor. He was intending to spend this day to try and master the technique necessary to use his new weapon. He didn't know what it was yet, since headquarter hadn't given him the full part to the weapon. All he was provided to train with was a neck-level height long metal pole to train with. Despite so, it really implied that this was a point-blank weapon, and that this would be a very dangerous task. He didn't fear danger, but he ought not to face danger unprepared.

After letting the new recruits having their moments of self-train, with the techniques taught already, Thanh went to his own corner to train with his new weapon. Or rather...incomplete weapon. He held the pole at exactly the 1/3 mark and the 2/3 mark, charged forward and lunged it at a nearby wall, twisting it around and then ran back to cover. Rinse and repeat. It was a rather very bizarre sight to watch, as some people didn't really understand what he was doing. Thanh could notice curious eyes of his peers behind him burning into the back of his hair, but he didn't pay any attention to them. Did he look crazy to them? Maybe, but he didn't care.

Sometimes we, as normal person, usually imagine scientists being the mysterious ones who spent decades inside a laboratory or a library trying to find their Eureka moment. And when they do, it would revolutionizes the world as we know it.

But things weren't so simple and dramatic.

"If our brain really emits electromagnetic, which is measurable in a room shielded with mu metal, a special material that blocks external magnetic, using MEG scanner, then..."

That Eureka moment could last for a while.

"The electromagnetic wave created by the brain could suggest human consciousness coming out of there."

But not entirely comprehensible.

"Isn't that basically what Susan was claiming in her book as well?"

And require a little bit of tweak.

"Yes, but we can't really measure it through classical physics. If we look deeper into the subatomic particles present and charged within the electromagnetic field, through the use of quantum theory, we can uncover how those particles generate these non-physical thoughts that our brain usually think, perceive and imagine."

Visible to all passerby, the man sitting in the wheelchair, in his black suit, was swiftly drafting his illustration on the whiteboard nearby, while the middle-aged man nearby was pinching his chin in thoughts of the new proposition. A room reserved for only great minds.

"My prediction is that our consciousness exist in the state of superposition. Our thoughts are a form of quantum state, and when added together creates another valid quantum state. To measure this state of the brain, we can project a well-tuned signal into the brain. If the oscillation occurs and measured after a certain amount of time..."

"Then quantum superposition occurs." The professor finished.

"Within decoherence time, yes."

A small but happy smile formed on the professor's lips.

"Keep going. Develop the mathematics."

One could have a brilliant and ingenious idea or theory that could explain everything in the universe, but reality lives on numbers. If one could not develop the appropriate equations to back his or her theory, then it would merely be as rubbish as any conspiracy theories already out there in this world.

Thomas was frozen for a while long. He surely wasn't prepared for his hypothesis to be accepted for mathematical proving so easily. It really was just a spur of a moment thing that he just got out of the book that he just finished reading in the last few hours. Minutes passed, nothing coherent and clean came into mind.

And here is when the Eureka moment subsided, and potentially crushed...

"Hmmm."

Over an hour had passed, but the man in the wheelchair was still in front of the whiteboard, his marker still firmly in his hand. In front of him was an artistic masterpiece of numbers and signs. And yet, it remained unfinished. A quarter of the board remained unpainted. And one almost invisible corner, a single equivalence notation stood lonelily, sad and making no sense. He was stuck.

"Now where can I come from here?"

The wavelength variable constant k always had to remain fixed during the whole process. But then when the wave function was sent into its favor, its value could be altered with the effects of the Rabi oscillation. So it wouldn't be well-defined, not to mention being a constant as well. Then...

"Why is it so cold in here all of a sudden?"

He knew it was cold outside, but in this room was already monitored by proper heater already. How come he was still chilly here? It wasn't any common feeling of coldness. It only occurred in his palm and feet area. He could feel his grip on the marker hurting a little bit. His breathing hastened a bit.

"I might be thinking a little too much."

It wouldn't hurt to take breaks. He probably should get some hot snack to warm up.

While his wheelchair rolled across the library hall, as his mathematical equations still stuck around in his head, something slammed into his wheels. Something flesh and blood. Someone.

Before he knew it, his chair, after having one of its wheel locked in place while the other was still moving, rotated to the left forcefully, as the person fell on him. He could visibly see flocks of pink hair over his glasses.

"Oh! Terribly sorry." He said as he tried to regain his stance in the wheelchair, before helping the girl up. "My apologies, I wasn't paying attention."

Solaris Universatas - Thursday Morning

The 12-inch rims was rolling through the aisles of the University's Library, gently disturb the tranquility of the area. No blames were sent though. It was, after all, a polite reminder not to fall asleep during long hours of studies and research that could become tedious extensively.

The wheelchair stopped at the PQ section of the library before making a ninety degrees rotation into the smaller quarter. Wedged on two sides were all books, collected from the most brilliant minds in history, past or present. Within these dozens of books contained merely a fraction of humanity's intelligence and knowledge. It was a poetic reminder of how lowly and humble a person's understanding of the world is.

The man in the wheelchair knew exactly what he was looking for. The Nature of Consciousness, written sixteen years ago by a particular neuroscientist. She is not very well-known, but her worked had once been the center of debate for scientists of the age to discuss about the different theories of consciousness. Thomas had had some skepticism about each theories, as each served to explain only a part of what we are. A good theory is characterized by two factors: the first being the ability to explain large bodies of existing observation using as few arbitrary elements as possible, while the second being capable of predicting future events with those same elements. Most of these theories did explain specific events and observations, but could not for some. That could mean the theories were completely wrong, or they had a role different from what we imagined. And that was what he was going to find out, or hope to find out. That's probably the most interesting, but not for everyone, part of this job, as you are not at all stuck with a nine to five jobs where you do tasks you all know too well day after day. This job was like any adventurer's dream, and without dangers: travelling into the unknown. Yes, there are possibilities that you would run into a dead end, and you won't likely know if you do, possibly for an entire life. One life wasted into something worthless. It could happen. But in the name of science, it is worth the voyage.

"PQ 39.1 R212 2002 c.2"

After a bit of search, Thomas found the book he needed. And, thankfully, it was on the second stack, perfectly within his reach.

Upon grabbing his book, Thomas rolled over to the desk nearby, where he intended to spend a few hours reading the book before going home. Jeanie said she would be making taco tonight, so he better not miss it.

Or so he thought...

Whilst cleaning the kitchen inside the two's apartment, the young woman, with her long, silky and lustrous black hair suddenly leaned over to slid her phone out of her pocket. It was buzzing her lap. A short whistle of the birds made it clear it was a text message notification. Taking it out of her pocket, she turned it around before pressing the home button, lightening the screen as power surge through the phone. It was Thomas.

'Sorry to miss out on your taco night today, but I am currently occupied with my professor about my paper.'

"Again?"

The lady chuckled amusingly and with a small bit of salt. Looks like Netflix is gonna be her companion for the night.

She noticed she could scroll down in the message, as there was more

'I may have found it this time.'

'Hmm...'

That statement left her in thoughts for a while. The weather seems to be getting a lot colder tonight...
