Hey everyone - I've been getting a few character submissions and I appreciate everyone's interest so far.

The roster is filling up nicely, so once everyone gets their character submitted to me, I'll get to work on the next stage of fitting them into the game.

There are a few of you who've already done a nice job of back-filling your character's background into the plot, and for that I'm appreciative. It will make the game that much more slick.

Our gang is already pretty wild, I wouldn't want to fuck with them in the schoolyard any time soon.
Well you sound like you really know your stuff. My initial thoughts of switching up the decade would cut out the whole smart phones thing, which really is a drag for storytelling and roleplay.

But all your other reasons sound way better. I'll leave the OOC as is for now and for the first IC stuff I'll narrow it down with any other additional feedback from potential players.
What kind of a gang is it exactly? Bōsōzoku? Sukeban or banchō (or a mixed-gender amalgam of the two)? Do we rule a territory or do we terrorize the halls of our high school and not much else? Is this something historical like the 70's or 80's, or modern-day? Semi-realistic (like a sports anime, I guess) or leaning heavily into anime power level nonsense?

I've got literally dozens of ideas collecting dust. I can be anything from the typical shonen protagonist who wants to get stronger to stand up to her bullies, to the 18-19 year old elders of the group who are afraid of the real world sneaking up on them after their graduation day, and everything in between. I pray to God you've got room for one more lol.

Excellent question!

I don't want to limit any of the characters to one specific style of gang. If someone wants to be more a banchou kinda deal, that's totally cool. Since it's our own canon, I think we'll be alright mixing and matching in order to fit whatever people would want to play.

At the start, our characters would have the strength to run the halls of our school, but would branch out into becoming a force to be reckoned with outside of school, claiming territory throughout the city. We can play it pretty loose with geography since I'm certainly no expert.

I'd also aim to be closer to a semi-realistic sports anime vibe, power level stuff and special attacks can get kinda unwieldy, so I'd prefer us being folks who just like to throw down beatings. But I would expect us to be put in "shonen level" situations, like a special type of fight with weird rules or otherwise wild escapades. And it would take place in the modern day is what I was thinking, unless people would want to play in a different decade?

Regardless, the initial OOC is up here!

The street gangs of of Tokyo are about to explode

And you’re the lit match!

Across the schools of Tokyo, the various delinquent gangs of the city are all making their claim. Each gang vows they are the toughest, the strongest, and most deserving of the title “Kings.” You’d be hard pressed to find a schoolyard or alleyway where two banchou aren’t throwing hands, stomping each other into a mess of blood and ripped school uniforms.

Step into another gangs turf? Expect the physical consequences.

These are the Delinquent Days.

A recent power vacuum has left the various schoolyard gangs bereft of order. A Rumble between the two highest ranking street gangs has left one leader dead, and the other behind bars.

Of all the gangs, only one stands to make the best claim to the top: The Ikebukuro Diamonds. A ruthless group of yakuza inspired hooligans who aren’t above extortion, theft, and all manner of debauchery. Their former leader has been arrested after the previously mentioned Rumble, leaving the unhinged lieutenant in command. And that's Kazuma Kyoya - dubbing himself the “Emperor of Tokyo” - an enigmatic high school delinquent who they say has never lost a fight. The influence of The Diamonds extends across the cityscape, and with it, Kazuma has absorbed command of a handful of the lowest ranking gangs, increasing their number almost three-fold.

Our story starts with a ragtag group of delinquents coming together to represent their school - Sarayashiki Junior High. Your role may be the muscle, may be strategy, may be just wanting to kick some ass of guys who think they're even tougher than you.

Most of the cast will be students at Sarayashiki, and the player characters will all be members of the Sarayashiki Gang. Based on your submitted character sheets, I'm going to attempt to meld the story around you guys - using your backgrounds, I may make subtle adjustments without changing your character's root. For example, I may say "your character is going to be best friends with this other character, at least at the start." Some of them will be more plot significant than others, like I may have a character have a personal relationship with one of the arc's main antagonists. This will help make the story easier to get to the meat and potatoes without having to establish a bunch of first meetings, creating first impressions, all that stuff. Of course, I'm more than willing to adapt based on what you guys would think would work best.

Sarayashiki Junior High

If you'd like to apply a character, send me a pm with the following information for your character, and I'll get back to you. If all goes well, I can have the game up at the end of the week with everyone's updated characters and the first arc sorted out. My main player character will act as the Leader of the gang, but will alternate to play NPC's to keep plot moving forward.

The Leader character will be named Minato Ishida - and most of the gang has known each other throughout the school year, if not earlier than so. He has a soft-spoken character, smart with an emphasis on strategy. Though he's capable in a fight, he will not be the strongest in the gang, that's where you guys come in. He leads you all by believing in you, each of us having a deep bond and connection that makes us fight that much harder. Although the group has been delinquents for a long time, it isn't until the most recent chaotic upheaval in the street gangs has Minato told you all his aim is to stake our own claim for dominance, making our way up the ladder of School Gangs and usurp even The Ikebukuro Diamonds.

Great - I'll have the OoC up this weekend, I promise. If there are any particular story beats you guys are interested in seeing in a game like this, let us know here and I can work them into the premise of the game.
I think I've enough people expressing interest to draft up a more in-depth plot. A cast of 6-7 or so players sounds manageable enough.

As I get the character sheet created and receive submissions from folks, would you guys be comfortable if I add additional plot significance to the characters who get recruited?

For example, if it makes sense for one character, I may respond back to you saying "This guy is great and I think he'd make a great lieutenant, second in command" or "I think they would be a fun transfer student" would that be something you guys are interested in?
I'm thinking the characters would be human and limited in terms of their strengths.

I like the idea of your character, but being out and out undead might not suit the exact vibe. However - I do see something really cool in that she could be a Sukeban - a delinquent gang girl - and one who once took a beating so heinous from a rival or rivals that she was nearly pronounced dead, before recovering in an almost miraculous amount of time, earning her the nickname of "Undead" Rei Sato, the toughest girl at Sarayashiki High.

Would something like that be acceptable?

I was looking to create a game based around a japanese high school street gang. The gang itself would start off as a lower mid-tier gang in Japan that would work it's way to the top of Tokyo's underground. The game itself would include things like:

Street fights
Rivalries
Mystery
Friendship
School life
General slice of life.

I'd aim for a sort of anime vibe, some light comedy mixed in with the gangs antics.

The gang itself would have an idealistic leader type played by the GM, he'd have a lieutenant and maybe various different roles in the gang would be filled out by the cast.

I'd like to plan out a couple arcs, move the game along at a good pace to keep things exciting. A rumble between a rival gang, maybe a tournament (who doesn't love a good tournament arc) and I'm really open to suggestions. Is this something people would be interested in? If so, I'd draft up a more full plot background and get cracking.

Location: Happy Harbor Mall
Interactions: Nymph @dreamingflowers
Mentions: Gold Rush, Hex, Rain

Talon took Nymph at her word, that this boy she ran into a moment ago was someone she knew from school. Although he felt initially that there was more to the situation than Daphne had let on, he wrote this off as something in his imagination. Talon had a worrying thought - why did he have such a visceral reaction to someone? Did they really give off a menacing aura and put Nymph in a strange position, or did he feel some sort of way that an arrogant kid had approached his new friend? They were friends at this point, right? Was that the sort of thing Talon could ask outright? Or was this just the petty kind of jealousy that any guy would have if a pretty girl was talking to someone who wasn't him? Talon hadn't had many occasions in the past to feel these kinds of ways, and the thought that he was developing in this way was unexpected. He hadn't ever had romantic feelings for anyone - strong feelings of attachment were useless to him in his past. They led purely to heartbreak or emptiness, or ruining the mission. But Nightwing's influence taught him that true weakness was in fact being alone. That opening oneself up to their friends, to love, would strengthen someone beyond their limits. Maybe that's what Talon was feeling for people like Hex, Gold Rush, Nymph. Maybe even someone like that prick Rain.

But not likely.

Nymph was holding a phone out to Talon, a dark blue one with white flower petals strewn across the back of it as a case. She was smiling up at him, putting him off balance. He nodded to her and took the phone and case she had. They would do nicely. Truthfully he didn't mind whatever it looked like. He was just excited at the prospect of having people to communicate with. Nymph was demonstrating that he was someone people may actually enjoy being around (with time, maybe) and that sort of self esteem was just one of the litany of new things that Talon had felt since joining the team. And if someone who he exchanged blows with, who then choked him in front of everyone could want to spend time with him, maybe he wasn't too far gone after all. Dick was right, even if things are difficult with the others, they always come back around. Friendship was truly something. Talon and Nymph went and paid for the two items, he didn't ask again about Josh, and the two exited the store.

He was setting up the phone on a bench just outside, only half paying attention to the prompts on the small screen. He could feel a change in Nymph's energy, and she looked like she was ready to move on. Talon looked up and down the length of the mall to his left and right. He wasn't sure where else he would head to, and thought about grabbing onto Nymph while she went and shopped. That's what he wanted to do, honestly. He wanted to spend time with her. And the others too.

"Well...I'm glad we got you set up with a phone. I'll add our contacts. Look at that, I'm the first person in your phone." She smiled down at the phone as she filled in the rest of the team's information.

"But I need to go, I have a few more stops to make so I'll see you when we meet up okay?" She waved to him and trotted off away through the crowds, leaving Talon where he was sitting. He looked down at his phone - his contacts now starting to fill up. People he can talk to. When he could talk.

The mall was filling up, and all around him the murmurs of the crowds, young kids with their parents, other teenagers messing about with their peers. More than a few hands being held. Talon felt self conscious he was alone again, and annoyed at having to feel that way. It was probably best he spend some time away from Nymph and the others again. He didn't want to monopolize Nymph's time anyways, too much of a good thing. Plus who knows if she'd grow tired of him, or was only hanging around him because of the guilt she still held onto for hurting him. It was a confusing time, as most times tended to be. He stood up from the place he was sitting and started to explore the mall, starting the opposite direction that Nymph had gone...

Following the map hanging above an awning across from the food court, Talon made his way to a shop called "The Book Nook." He thought he'd be able to spend his time there for a bit before meeting with the others. On his way he passed by a music store - selling instruments and other musical equipment. Talon stopped, quite moved by a piece of music coming from the speakers inside of the store itself. A piano melody, one that was vaguely familiar. He wondered if it was a record that was playing. He closed his eyes for a brief moment and then moved on, heading towards the store.
Hello there!

I love One Piece and would be very interested in this if it fleshes out. Are you thinking canon characters or OC's?
