Current Remember, nobody actually enjoys roleplaying if there isn't at least five shameful fetishes uncovered by the 2nd page.

Let's be honest, it's far more satisfying and challenging to actually imagine what a character looks like than paste a hundred gifs of a celebrity and call it good.

So, a team of players who are good at playing as a team in a team-based game are individually bad players. Seems kind of silly when you put it like that, no?

My goal these days is to have an RP that can actually finish, or the very least, last a few years. I see way too many die on page one to take chances

Fantastic replies so far, ladies and gents. It's certainly one of those topics that doesn't have a right or wrong answer, but @pugbutter had a really excellent point and it being a thing that comes from the right place but can be seen as backseat GMing/ an unintentional "I'm better than you, let me fix you" mentality. I rather agree with that sentiment, and I think it's why most people err on the side of politeness.

Let's say a GM had a form, so to speak, where players can optionally sign off their willingness to receive critism and advice or something of that nature where it's established and everyone on board with it declared their openness to the concept? Would that be something that would have merit in a roleplay?
I wanted to talk about this since I noticed more than a few comments in other threads about people not reading a post or skimming it because it just wasn't interesting to read. It got me thinking; would people find constructive criticism unwanted and/ or inappropriate if it was coming from other players in the game who weren't necessarily GMs? Obviously it's a case by case scenario and some people certainly wouldn't be offering helpful advice, but it's worth discussing.

So let's say you're in a game with another player but their posts are hard to read, filled with a lot of filler that can be trimmed down, are lacking description or any real character involvement, etc., would you find it inappropriate to post OOC or PM that player and give them some friendly advice, and if you were the player who was receiving criticism, would you welcome the advice or just find it obnoxious and intrusive?

Obviously you wouldn't want to do this all the time or even before a few rounds of posting is done, especially since it could border on perceived harassment, but say you're a few weeks in and you notice a trend (say a player's posts are more or less recaps of other people's posts, or they forget to punctuate frequently), would you consider offering advice to that player, or would you leave it to GMs?

I think everyone stands to improve on something, and I know myself that I tend to avoid getting criticism because I'm usually the GM, and I think some good natured pointers from fellow players you are comfortable with could be a really handy way to find out what you can do better.

If you decided to let players in your game do this, how abouts would you do it? Have an opt in section on character sheet submissions? I'm interested in your thoughts and if you think this would help or hurt games overall.
Well, that's an interesting subjects that comes across very frequently in the RPs I take part as either a GM or Co-GM.

I think that it's a matter of respect and mutual understanding, really. If you feel bad when people ignore parts of your posts (possible going out of your way to remember them via OOC or PM), you shouldn't ignore others' posts as well. It's a reciprocal relationship between you and your RPing peers.

That said, every rule has its exception and, as long as it's not harming the RP in any way, I hardly care for what the people I play with do. It's a tad too presumptuous of anyone to demand that people do this or do that just to fulfill their writer's ego.

And, let's be sincere, some of us may not even have the time to do anything more than skim read before posting a reply. Or they may read, get distracted by something else and forget some important part.

However, when it's a continuous problem then it has to be addressed by the GMs as soon as it's noticed. Negligence leads to conflicts and disinterest, both of which can kill a RP quite fast.

This happened multiple times at the main RP I'm Co-GMing at the moment, since people were prone to forget about pretty blatant events (like, a certain character who has grown infamous killing waves of PCs by gassing entire battlefields at once) until it's too late. "How the hell have I been breathing corrosive poison gas for 15 minutes and not noticed?" is the single most used complaint when players find their characters dead out of nowhere there.

After some time we finally worked it out with everyone, but the amount of frustration from people not reading/not paying enough attention to others' posts almost killed that RP 4 times or so.

Even so it's still funny to see people dying to very loud/flashy and very avoidable wide area attacks that they failed to acknowledge until it's too late.

"Oh my, sure is smoggy today. I wonder why everyone is taking a nap?"
Personally, I think Discord is super handy for just socializing and having game related sub channels that can be kept separate from spam or off topic banter. It also is great for tagging people you need to talk to about the RP, get collabs rolling, and pinning messages.

That said, not everyone has Discord and as others have mentioned, stuff gets buried if the chat is busy. I think GM related announcements and inportant info should always be posted OOC, or just general player updates and remarks. A balance of both is good. I just think it's silly to discount a tool entirely because it takes attention off site.
@Dervish im glad someone here can repair droids or B-0 would be fucked

If by repair you mean be unclear why there's a droid that he's not allowed to repurpose and screw around with, sure. ;D
@Dervish, I'm updating your background trait to help define Zekha's role a little better.

Tinker? I Barely Know Her: You can spend 1 hour and 10 credits worth of materials to attempt to construct a Droid Part or a Ship Part from scratch. Once you have a total of four Droid Parts or four Ship Parts, you can spend 3 hours and 50 credits worth of materials to attempt to construct a non-combat droid or upgrade one of a ship's systems using their respective parts. Success is determined by rolling a d20, and any roll over 10 constitutes as a success.

I grow in power muhahahaaaa

But seriously, good call allowing for ship modifications; it gives the selfish asshat some incentive to be a team player. I'll slap that into the sheet after work!

Ah, alright! Thanks for clearing that up friend.

You bet! Sorry it wasn't immediately clear; I have a pretty big ol' backstory that helps build on Zekha's mechanical background and how the droid bits were kind of a happy discovery well after he started specializing with machinery. I should have considered that his personality section and gear loadout heavily suggests he's entirely about droids. It's kind of a 60 > 40 split in favour of ship repairs over droid tinkering.
