Wing-Man

Location: Mute City - F-Zero Universe
Tags: @Burning Kitty

Mute City was a veritable hotspot for racing enthusiasts. All different kinds of Races were held here and in other locations of the F-Zero universe. Some of them could be deadly, either due to enemy racers or unforgiving turns requiring peak reflexes. While big events like the Grand Prix Race were sometimes hosted, smaller randomized races were open at pretty much all times. It was in one such randomized race that Wing-Man currently found himself. He'd won his Blue Falcon F-Zero Machine a few weeks back, and had been quick to use it to dominate as many races as he could. It was a damn good machine: fast, good handling, good defensive systems. He had given it his own custom paint job, but otherwise he didn't have to tune it up all that much. Must have been a testament to its status as an iconic racing machine in this particular universe.

"Ha! Eat slag, slowpokes! I own this race!" the voice could be heard on open comms between all the racers, and it belonged to the Avatar piloting the coveted Blue Falcon, Wing-Man. The F-Zero machine was a blur of speed as Wing-Man hit the boosters, it almost looking like it was leaving behind a fiery trail due to the flame vinyls on its top and sides. In his boosting, Wing-Man practically sideswiped a fellow racer as he zoomed past them, causing them to nearly lose control and crash. With this, Wing-Man found himself ahead of the pack and smiled to himself as he knew that meant the race would soon be his. But as the finish line came into view, Wing-Man noticed something... off. People that were previously watching the race were suddenly paying more attention to something else. Behind him, racers were coming to stop and exiting their machines to look up at one of the many giant viewing monitors. Wing-Man also stopped, but only after crossing the finish line.

"Yo, where's my trophy? What's the deal?" he reached up and pulled off his sunglasses as he decided to see what all the hub-bub was about. That was when he saw the message from the robed old man. After taking everything in, Wing-Man let out a good laugh, "Really? That's what has everyone in a tizzy? Come on, it's just some new event! What are you people so afraid of?" Well enough of that, the prize for the race appeared in his gift inbox. Wing-Man was quick to accept it.

"Score!" he said, realizing what it was. In was an Arm Cannon! Fully upgraded, too! This would go quite nicely with his Varia Suit, "Well, legit or not, at least I scored a free Arm Cannon out of the deal. Can't argue with that." he'd been wanting an Arm Cannon for some time, having acquired his Varia Suit a while back but it feeling rather incomplete without the weapon to go with it. That meant the next thing he should be looking into was a Gravity Suit Upgrade, and eventually a Phazon Suit. Then he'd really be able to kick ass like the Bounty Hunter this stuff originally belonged to. He couldn't resist, so Wing-Man immediately equipped the Arm Cannon along with the Varia Suit so he could check himself out while fully equipped. He gave a low whistle while looking at his reflection. Despite Samus obviously being a woman, her armor could look absolutely amazing on anyone, regardless of gender. This little event was, unfortunately, distracting Wing-Man from remembering that he was supposed to be meeting someone fairly soon. Also he hardly even noticed the weapon also being tagged as "Anti-Viral", just like the old man in the robe said.
I'll probably go with the latter option so that my Arm Cannon can be Anti-Viral.
That's a... bit of a tough pill for everyone in-universe to swallow. Some might believe it, but I can almost guarantee that vast majority of players (mine included) are just going to assume this is some hoax or an elaborate game event and nothing more. From an OOC perspective it works because I've played games like .Hack where this sort of thing is to be expected. However, those three get to be "Champions" and no one else? Where does that leave the rest of us who didn't get to start off as members of the clan? Are we just going to be a supporting cast for what will clearly be the three main heroes? That might not be very appealing to most players, you know. At least in Ready Player One the Egg could be found by literally anyone. It wasn't some "Chosen One" narrative like this seems to be.

EDIT: I just wanted to add this to clarify that I am in no way against this plot. I'm just pointing out what others might take away from this.

I don't really plan my rps out very far ahead, at least not after my first one. I do that for two reasons, one being I haven't had many successful ones, and two sometimes I change my plans based on how the current plan is working or not working out, heck one time I changed the plan simply because of one line from another player's character.

Ah, fair enough.

Significant quest(s):
For someone who's Avatar is named Wing-Man, it's almost funny that he has yet to obtain any kind of plane or starfighter artifact. Not from a lack of trying, mind you. There were two quests in particular that resulted in rewards that weren't quite what he was hoping they were.

The first was a Grand Prix Race, within which Wing-Man drove Ghost Rider's car, complete with access to limited fire powers for self defense. Unfortunately, the car was a loaner. In fact everyone was given randomly assigned vehicle artifacts to use for the race. To keep a long story short, Wing-Man was victorious. His prize? The one and only Blue Falcon. A pretty awesome prize all things considered, but Wing-Man had been under the assumption that he would be able to fly with it. It turns out that F-Zero machines don't actually fly, they just hover over the ground. Apparently Wing-Man got it confused with the Flying Falcon, which actually does fly.

The second quest was called Space Empires. Participants were assigned command of a particular faction from a Sci-Fi franchise and were given the objective to lead them to victory over the other forces by taking control of all the territory zones. Players weren't allowed to participate in battles personally, instead their AI-controlled army did the actual fighting, with the players merely observing and giving commands and orders where necessary. For this campaign, Wing-Man was given command of the Cornerian Army from the Star Fox series. He came out victorious, his fleets managing to outfight other player consisting of the Klingons, Federation, and even the Galactic Empire among others. For his victory, Wing-Man was awarded the Unique Artifact giving him the power to summon Team Star Fox for an airstrike once a day. Great! But if he was being completely honest with himself, Wing-Man would have preferred an actual Arwing vehicle for himself. Oh well, maybe next time. This second event is what got the Spectors' attention, them apparently being impressed with his tactical commanding from this event in addition to his racing skills from the Grand Prix Race.

<Snipped quote by Double>Currently no plans, but that might change.

Huh, any particular reason why? The Clan already has a ship so it's clearly something that's already part of the game in-universe...
@Burning Kitty Okay, CS is ready for full judgement. Also, quick question, are we going to be able to acquire flying vehicles at a later time in the RP? 'Cuz I'd really like to have an Arwing for myself later if possible... <_<
@Leah Why, thank you very much. I don't know if I implied it strongly enough, but the general idea was for the fights to essentially be Shu's "alcohol", as it were. Sure, he might not be a drunkard like his father, but it's still rather telling that he wound up with a sort of addiction of his own.

Oh and also, since I don't think I clarified it in the CS, Shu was indeed born and raised in Republic City.
Accidentally forgot you @Double, sorry.

Since your character isn’t finished yet, I am only going to approve your artifacts, feel free to add to your cs when you update it to finish it. Just for everyone’s information the Airwing Airstrike, I am assuming it is possible for that to be capable of friendly fire, am I correct?

Thank you, and yes, the Arwing Airstrike can inflict friendly fire. It's no different from similar AoE items in Super Smash Bros that just flat out hit everything in the designated AoE Zone.
